  1. Spam is bad, and clearly they have made a few rookie mistakes, but let's not clobber them for no reason here. Everyone here is right, Solar Secure has permanently damaged its reputation. However, excessively attacking them isn't going to help, it only makes the rest of us look bad. Solar Secure, I wish you good luck and hope you have learned from your mistakes.

    Player Prison?

I doubt the developers will want any sort of prison system. They want this game to grow and retain players, and to do that they need people to remain engaged. If you have a player getting locked up then they are going to log out, and that is the last thing the devs want people doing. Even if they could come up with a way to prevent any "abuse" of the imprisonment system (which they can't, there will always be a way to abuse it), it still adds nothing to the game and only detracts from it. There may be some ways to temporarily trap players, but the developers will very likely make sure there is always a way out. And if somehow someone gets well and truly trapped or imprisoned, you can bet that a GM is going to come running to set them free.
  3. The subscriptions will start when the game launches late 2018 or early 2019.
  4. I like this idea, and I hope they are able to implement it! I do believe that they will likely have doors be elements at the initial time of release, due to the effort it would require to make moving parts. Although, the hinge idea could work pretty well. I feel like doors are one of those little details that most voxel based games overlook that really adds to the immersion.
  5. I imagine they will have to make it more robust than a simple "kill this guy, get this money". The reason EVE's bounty system is so complex is they had to take into account the numerous ways people could abuse it. Like Accunut said, there are a bunch of threads on this already, but the discussion is still very far from settled.
  6. By the way, welcome to the forums. o/
  7. That example isn't so much of a game feature as it would be a social feature. You tell someone you know to buy the goods for you and deliver it for you and they do it, no app required. I don't see how augmented reality could be integrated with the idea of this game as it stands, at least in the sense of having the real and virtual worlds overlap. If you are talking about third-party software, then I'm sure the players themselves will develop that en masse. (Just look at EVE's massive repertoire of third-party applications that have become almost essential to normal play.
  8. Perhaps a mix of the above. I'm sure most people will communicate through out of game means: Discord, Teamspeak, Mumble.
  9. I think that sounds interesting and like a good gameplay addition, so long as it was properly balanced. Make it too effective and things get boring fast.
  10. Well in that case you have come to the right community! Welcome to DU!
  11. I am quite impressed by your work. Good job on all of it. I think you will go far in this game.
  12. I mine the asteroid and sell the minerals, amassing a small fortune. I then use that money to buy the land rights to the hill, and hire mercenaries to evict you. I'm the King of the Hill now.
  13. I think I remember the thread. If I recall, people were of the opinion that it depended on the type of weather. For example something like acid rain (that kills people in it without protection but doesn't really change the terrain) or lightning strikes would be fairly easy to implement as opposed to something like tornadoes or tsunamis. Ooops I quoted you Sorry
  14. How would this work without creating terrain? I like the idea but I'm curious how you envision it working.
  15. Yeah, that is always a risk. It is definitely something that gave me pause before I backed the project, but I decided that they seem to be very honest about the state of the game and what they can/will do vs what they can't/won't. Like others have mentioned they have some very experienced people on their team. For me personally, the possibility of success is worth the risk of failure, and I (and I presume most of the other people here) will do whatever we can to help them succeed. Like I said, the most important thing is not how much you can chip in, but joining in the community and participating in it.
  16. I mean eventually the universe will end so yes, but maybe not in our lifetimes
  17. Don't rush into a group. Take your time and find one that suits you. There are lots of groups out there, of all sorts and varieties.
  18. I wasn't talking about ramming, just about crashing on planets and stuff Yeah being the engineer would be a stressful job. I know people write eve fan fiction about the engineers all the time, and it's pretty intense!
  19. Yeah it is quite a long wait, although the time will pass fairly quickly. Like Twerk said: It will take time for the game to be developed if they are to develop it properly. It is quite an ambitious game, so there are a lot of development challenges to be overcome. A good portion of the time in Alpha will probably be spent finding things that need to be corrected/re-balanced. My recommendation is that if you do not want to get an Alpha pledge, but do want to be active in the community, find one of the groups here that are active in other games (Like Band of Outlaws for instance, but there are others) and play with them, get to know people, and pass the time.
