Ye sure, but the OP meant something along the lines of a space billboard advertising :

"McDonald's DU Happy Meal Special - order now!".

A 22 char password isn't gonna stop some dude with a botnet from brute forcing you XD

It may take a month, but it'd be pretty inconvenient to have to change your password every month

2-Step Verification makes you essentially "brute force proof" in that they would have to have access to your text messages/e-mail/authenticator in addition to the brute force to get in. That, or figure out what your IP is and spoof it so the server thinks you're connecting from the same place you usually do (2-step usually only kicks in if you log in from a new or unusual location).

But imo it won't matter till the game is out. I mean, what are they going to do if they hack you right now? Make forum posts? Join an org? XD There isn't much they could do at this point.

Technically there's nothing stopping a company from paying you IRL to go into the game and put up a billboard with their ad on it.

This wouldn't help NQ make money, but individual players/orgs could make ad revenue. However NQ would be within their rights to not allow IRL companies to advertise in-game.

    Yeah XD

But also to point out, you won't necessarily have to pvp in this game. But if you don't pvp, you'll have to pay people to defend you or join an org that you can work for in an area they're protecting.

EX: You just want to do mining operations. You make money off of the mining operations, but now that people know you're making money off of mining, pirates want to steal your crap. Use some of the money you made from mining to hire pvpers to fight the pirates.

EDIT: I remembered there's a safe zone XD so you can probably stick to the safe zone if you want, but you probably won't make as much money, and claiming land there will cost you money.

    @CyberCrunch
yeah you could do a lot of stuff with it - all I'm saying is that NQ only wants ONE currency ingame (quanta) so they won't implement anything that would benefit your cause in creating a currency yourself. So the ONLY way you could do it, is via some virtual stuff you keep track of yourself. Doable, but a lot of work.
    And still, I don't think it's a good idea

Yes, you can claim safe zone tiles but there is a tax on them that goes up the more tiles in the safe zone are claimed. There will also be well over 1000 tiles in the safezone.

The main advantage of building in the safe zone is that your stuff is safe and it's a central location in the game world.

It will likely be mostly parking lots, markets and warehouses

Assuming that lighting and shadows works perfectly, noting ATMLVE's comments...

My understanding was that there will be no orbital mechanics for the solar systems (ie no planetary movement around other bodies like planets around the sun).

Therefore, all you would have to do is build a station that's as wide or wider than the width of the sun's rays that affect a specific point on the planet.  Now if the planets don't move around the sun this becomes a very simple calculation, even if the planet itself rotates, you could specifically target a location to place in a partial or total solar eclipse.

While we of course don't know details of things like lighting and shadows in the game, its probably inherent that an object in front of a planets light source would cast a shadow on the planet. So I would think it would cast shadows, yes..

Now, it may not work perfectly like this; some flaws could be shadows having a max distance, texture errors, or the world just doesn't really get any darker, i.e. the sun isn't really creating all the light but rather the game renders the world light when there is a sun in the sky.

Also, the concept youre talking about, building an object at the L1 point between a planet and it's star, would in real life be a quite efficient way to wipe out most life on Earth, one way I thought of after watching yet another movie where an advanced alien race feels that the best way to kill everyone is to resort to WWII dog fights.

I'm sticking by my stance that I think we should have teleporter pads, but limit them heavily to prevent people from abusing them in various ways :T

In all cases I think teleports should require both a sending and receiving pad. I don't think people should be able to teleport from a pad to a non-pad position. In addition you can either:

    1. Make it use fuel/electricity to operate and have it use more the further away the receiving teleporter pad is.

    2. Same fuel/electricity concept except the cost increases based on how much inventory you're carrying / armor you're wearing.

    3. Both 1 and 2

    4. Make it so no armor/items (except for maybe some costume or cosmetic item, if that end's up being a thing) can go through the teleporter

    5. Both 1 and 4

I think it would make sense to have teleporters, but have them use some type of resource every time you use them.

This way NQ could balance it so that getting from point A to point B with a teleporter would be faster, but also cost more.

today, I am here on behalf of Objective Driveyards to propose a beneficial offer.
We would like to propose the creation of a Company-wide Expo to showcase the greatest technologies, accomplishments and designs the shipbuilding industry can offer.
Participating in alpha and beta will be free for everyone interested and may help each of us to improve our reputation and make our names known.
We ask your participation in this Expo as a joint project between many ship building organizations to make this a project with impact and value.

The discord for this event can be found here https://discord.gg/agD4r5X

The Alioth Aerospace Expo is an exciting opportunity for ship enthusiasts, pilots, and manufacturers to gather and celebrate the latest and greatest in aerospace technology.

When and where will the expo take place? The Expo will be an exclusive week-long event held semi annually in a convention center within the Arkship safe-zone. The first trial expos are slated to be held some time during Alpha and Beta.

Why should I attend? The Expo aims to become a central hub of the shipbuilding scene. It is an opportunity for both industry giants and innovative startups to attract new civilian and military customers, by showcasing their talent to the wider player base.

How will the Expo be funded? Exhibitions of various sizes will be rented out to attending manufacturers. In addition, sponsorships from outside organizations will be accepted. Alpha and Beta Expo attendance will be free of charge in an effort to raise awareness about the event.

How will the Expo be organized? The expo will be organized by an Honorary Committee, made up of attending organization leaders and respected community members, who will elect an Executive Director for each expo. They will handle logistics, organization of the expo, hosted contests, and events.

Hi Wariscoming and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum.

Referring to the game "7 days to die" would be a relevant example if it was a Massively Multiplayer game, and it's not.
4 players, 8 players, or even 64 players on the same server isn't what we call a Massively Multiplayer game.
As we already said in another topic, we have to make tough choices, as simulating water physics, physics applied on voxels, and other similar mechanics are extremely heavy in terms of calculation and is not currently compatible with a large scale multiplayer environment. What can be done with a few players can become a problem in a situation where thousands of players may gather in a specific area. It's the same problematic with games like Space Engineers or Empyrion. We have chosen to prioritize the massively multiplayer interaction instead of some aspects of physics simulation.

WARNING: Do not search for a pdf version of the book. There is a pdf version available for free, but of course it is illegal. Again, do NOT search for the pdf version of the 4th edition, or you will find the free illegal version.

Veln got a reaction from Lord_Void in Will the game be able to play on Mac Computers
Apple has never been cooperative with gamers. They just don't give a shit.

If you have a mac and you want to play games for Windows, just buy windows and boot camp it on your mac. If you had enough money to buy an overpriced mac with a high end graphics card in it, the extra $100 to get Windows shouldn't be too much for you.

That being said, make sure you have Apple Care if it's one of the newer Macs; the shitty thunderbolt ports blow out in 6 months - 2 years and the only one who can replace them is Apple (unless you know someone who's good at faking Apple hardware but they're few and far between). If Apple would have just stuck to USB 3.0s like the rest of the industry, this wouldn't be a problem.

Hmmm I'm guessing you mean the mac pro? If I recall, the hardware in that is more targeted at video editing and other professional work rather than gaming. I suppose that could have the hardware to run it if they ever add support for macs. It certainly wouldn't be running the game at top graphics though

Veln reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Organization management & Exceptional NQ Interventions
    Hi everyone.

Until now, we couldn’t manually manage (remove/promote) Legates in an organization easily on the administration side.
Since Yesterday, we are able to use a feature simplifying considerably the process.

As we already mentioned many times in the past, we (Novaquark) don’t want to involve ourselves in the management of organizations created by players. However, we are also aware that the current (and temporary) state of the management system contains obvious flaws. You know it. We know it. As this is still “work in progress”, we hoped that organizations creators will be reasonable enough to avoid abusing the well-known flaws of the system and would wait that all the rules are implemented before trying to sabotage other organizations.

So we are going to state the obvious here:
It’s ok to “play a bad guy” and use dirty tricks once all the rules are implemented. However, it’s absolutely not ok to start exploiting the flaws of a work in progress system: this is not “playing a bad guy”, this is just toxic behavior and trying to gain an advantage while not playing by the rules.

That’s why - despite our will of non-involvement - we will make exceptions until the full implementation of the RDMS (Rights & Duties Management System) for the Organizations.

Why did we decide to intervene?
    Two reasons:
    1) In the current state, a Legate has much more power than in the final system, due to the minimalistic mechanisms temporarily in place. If in the current system, any Legate has the right to promote a member to Legate status by himself alone, in the final system the default rights will be completely different: promoting a legate will be done only with a vote by majority rule, or the right to promote someone will be given to specific persons and not every Legate.
    2) In the current state, a Legate cannot be demoted by any mean (even by the creator of an organization). In the final system, default configurations will allow to demote a Legate with a vote by majority rule. A Legate could also be demoted by specific persons who have been given the right (most probably by the Organization founder) to do so.

How is this going to work?
Each organization is going to have one "wild card": if there is a problem with the Legates in an Organization, you can contact the support team at support@novaquark. However, keep in mind we (Novaquark) reserve the right to intervene (or not) on a case by case basis.

Example of a case where we will intervene:
Some Legate using the flaw of the current temporary system to vandalize (or generate troubles in) an organization.

Example of a case where we won’t intervene:
Two organizations have merged in one, and now both creators of previous organizations want to mutually exclude each other from the organization. In this kind of case, we won’t remove anyone. We won’t favorize one creator above another. However, we will do our best to help finding a satisfying solution for both parties.

    As a global reminder:
If someone finds a loophole in the rules in place (that may happen), and this loophole is used to generate trouble and spread a toxic behavior, we won’t stay idle watching the situation deteriorating.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.
