If you want to see some voxel shape creation in action, check out this part of the latest devdiary:

Also, there is an article on the wiki all about building, which I'll link below. If you just want to see a quick example and move on, then don't bother with this article, it's pretty lengthy.

Several of us considered giving him a pledge (I know I considered a Ruby pledge) as a show of good faith at the time.

I know some people here won't look too kindly on that, but the point was that we wanted him to be part of the community.

I went with open arms and was turned away almost immediately, so I didn't bother bringing up the pledges and so it ended up not mattering anyway.

I'm still open to the idea of giving away a Ruby pledge, as I would love it if they were here with the rest of us on a day to day basis - and were effectively locked into a lifetime of being able to be part of the community.

So Aiden, if Tablazu is indeed not your alt, you can tell them there's a lifetime subscription waiting for when they want to open things up for a new head mod and join us instead of trying to fight us for no discernable reason.

And that's the last thing I have to say on this thread.

There is something wrong with r/DualUniverse; it is intentionally separating parts of the community. Neo is right, not a single person from that subreddit is actually here, because none of them are part of any other part of the community. Meanwhile, those active here on the forums are also active on the real subreddit, r/dualthegame, as are people who are found only there. There's a connection.

So please don't say there's nothing wrong with. It is trying to separate the community, that is what's wrong with it.

Hi, I'm just new to Dual Universe and I already see 12k+ posts about ideas...
I'm usually happy to share my improvements ideas, but most of them probably have already been proposed and I would prefer to respond or like these posts more than posting and flooding the forum just to have someone else telling me "We already talked about this a hundreds times!".
12k+ posts, and the game is not even out, so what will it be in 1 year ?

Don't tell me to use the research, we all use different words, in this case this is useless.

Does someone had the patience to sort the ideas?
Having them in categories and subcategories could save time for everyone.

I wish you a wonderful day, AidenAiden.

I like that comment. It says a lot. Now, can we say the same thing the other way round: is anything stopping people from participating in r/dualthegame? The answer is a clear 'yes'. Freedom works both ways, let's keep it that way.

I don't know what kind of moderators there are in r/DualUniverse, but the very fact that they continue to cling onto r/DualUniverse - and that without being active on the Dual Universe Forums, tells me a lot. What kind of subsidiary company strikes its own path, disregarding the big picture? None: the leadership of such a company would be removed. In the case of Reddit, NQ clearly doesn't want to get involved, and I support that action. While I would be very inclined to follow the rule of Omerta, this case is something best dealt with publicly and with sufficient pressure - seeing as the mods have no interest in listening to the actual community.

For once, I must state that I thought the drama about the Reddit was overrated. Your comments above prove me wrong. It is irrelevant who those mods are; if they truly did care about the big picture here: the success and positive publicity of Dual Universe, they would cease this nonsense immediately. As they haven't, we can only assume that they have their ulterior motives.

Above, you stated that you are no longer a mod. Very interesting. So, AidenAiden, what did you do to resolve this issue while you were a mod, other than clamping down on any mention of r/dualthegame? (something the previous mods are doing quite efficiently. Peculiar, isn't it?) So far, you haven't convinced anyone here that r/DualUniverse is the better option, other than having the 'Dual Universe' name. Kindly stop this rhetoric about this drama and that drama. It takes two to tango, and so far, you're quite the dancer in here.

A small group of people are instigating this drama? How many people provided the game in the first place? The entire population of Paris? You make me laugh! Firstly, the potential to hurt the community isn't this - it isn't even close. Secondly, the fact that you made that statement shows either of two things - or even both:
You clearly don't know this community.  You are being the Drama King here. Seeing as you are the de facto public speaker for the mods, I suggest you spend more time with this community and you'll learn a few things. We don't bite that often, but when you have these many people of the same opinion, your side should do the smart thing and discuss. So far, there hasn't been much progress in that direction, has there? Stormy seas, I get it.

Everyone should go there and have a look around for themselves.  Thank you, I did that. You know what would be better? Having both the current mods and actual members from this side of the Dual Universe Community work together on it. Two heads are better than one, and a three fold cord isn't easily broken. Sounds good for the greater Dual Universe Community, no? Obviously, to the mods, it doesn't.

The Dual Universe Community has spoken: open up r/DualUniverse and grant more power to the those actively participating in Dual Universe, or give it over completely. As every other means of diplomacy has clearly failed, I see no other reason to pay attention to these mods, whoever they are. With time, we'll see which sub-Reddit takes the trophy home.

In the meantime, vox populi, vox Dei: if you want the Dual Universe Reddit to be actually useful and you want the community in harmony over this issue, do your part in convincing the mods to bring in more of the active members of Dual Universe, or watch in silence if you can't. Defending them over what cannot and should not be justified is - quite frankly - shallow.

Once again, I wish you a wonderful day.

    Cheers.

What is the deal with all of this reddit stuff, if not you then who is in charge of r/du . I don't go anywhere near reddit and it seems I'm quite justified in that decision.

Whoever is in charge of r/dualuniverse should give it to Yamamushi, for crying out loud, I'm so tired of hearing about this. The people that put the time and resources into it are aligned with yama and his faction. I have only ever heard of you Aiden and r/dualunvierse through hearsay, where are your active community members. To be blunt, who gives a shit about a reddit that has no practical connections to anyone active in the community?

If you're done with managing it can you use your influence to persuade the one in charge to relinquish it to someone that we know from the community, Yama, Cybrex, Comrade, Twerkmotor, or any number of people that someone would recognize.

I'm not involved with all this fiasco but one can see from afar that you have one great thing going for it and that must be that you captured the DualUniverse name before anyone else could. Just swallow the pride and help get it to someone proper. Youll probably even get respect points and be ushered as a hero if you do help, but until things start making sense I'm going to have to say r/dualthegame is the affirmed reddit outlet for those who wanna do the reddit thing.

From the current understanding they will last until the release of the game. So if you have a Gold level pledge or higher you can access the Alpha as soon as it comes out all the way until it turns in to the Beta in which case anyone with a Silver Founder pledge and higher can access.

Just keep in mind that the "Founder Packs" will be discontinued on September 7th, 2017.

You can also see this thread for more information on the discontinuation: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/11308-end-of-the-founder-packs-crowdfunding-portal-evolution-alpha-news/

Who wants to take this person's order? Who wants to do customer service? Who wants to check a boarding pass? Who wants to make beds? Who wants to sauter a point on a circuit board? Who wants to pick up mail? Who wants to repair those pipes? Who wants to shingle that roof? Who wants to check this computer code? Who wants to like something on social media? Who wants to operate this elevator/lift? Who wants to manually unsubscribe someone from a mailing list? Who wants to label this mail? Who wants to walk around to make sure the place isn't on fire? Oh god, who wants to watch the fax machine? Who wants to sort these papers? Who wants to staple these papers? Who wants to be a night watchman? "Cleanup on aisle four". Who wants to spin a revolving door? Who wants to carry in peoples luggage? Who wants to lick envelopes? Who wants to hold a sign in 90-degree heat? Who wants to collect tolls? Who wants to make boxes?

Sir, I don't know who you are and odds are we'll never see each other in our lifetimes. I live in a small town of fifty-some thousand people and while that seems like a lot from just one single point of view, compare it to metros like Chicago and LA that can house upwards of two-million people. Sure my town has a fortieth of the population 1/40 is still a pretty small fraction.

The list of jobs I have just given were all the things I could rattle off the top of my head that I knew existed in my town. I betcha if I lived in a metro, this list would be much more expensive... These are all jobs that need to be done so that many of the great things in society can have a chance at existing. What might seem trivial to you would mean a meager wage and food on the table for some war vet still hoping for the future.

I get it. No one wants to mop up shit. To anyone who finds joy in cleaning up human excrement, I salute you and wish you all the best because you have a really, really shitty job.

If no one cleaned up that crap, Walmart wouldn't be in business. If no one flipped those burgers, McDonald's would go bankrupt. If no one at FedEx sorted that mail, your mailbox would be forever empty. If no one repaired the pipes, skyscrapers and water towers (believe it or not those things play a part in providing you with tap water) wouldn't fill with water so that means no toilets and you're 90 stories up. If no one flagged in construction sites, you wouldn't get to work on time and traffic would be backed up forever. If the AmericanAirlines girl didn't check your boarding pass, good luck Chuck, you're stuck. If no one at Ford or GM, or Chrysler checked the car frames for defects, they would have needed a bailout a heck of a long time ago. And if NQ didn't check it's code, we wouldn't have DU, but worst of all if no one at Microsoft checked the code for their OS, we'd all be on Linux.

I get it. No one wants to do some trivial and repetitive task. I implore you though to look around you, mundane tasks are everywhere. If people didn't do these tasks, society would come to a screeching halt faster than you can sneeze in a dusty room. How are CEOs supposed to exist at the top without mobs of people filing paperwork at the bottom? Without those people, there would be no CEO, there would be no business, there would be no jobs, there would be no money. If there is no money, there is no economy. If there is no economy then nothing has value. If nothing has no value then the barter system doesn't exist. If there is no bartering then we're back to throwing rocks at each other. If we're back to throwing rocks at each other then that means we're back to biblical times. Let's not do that because I failed religion class!

Okay, the majority of that last paragraph was just senseless rambling and me sowing random things together. Do you get where I'm coming from though? If you don't have a strong base to work on top of, then everything will fall apart and the top of the pyramid will not exist. We have CEO's, and we have document sorters. We have organization leaders, and we have organization followers.

Yeah, there's a lot of boring stuff to do out there, but if you want to succeed in this game and let alone in life, sometimes you gotta do the boring stuff.

The truth is a bitter pill to swallow. Looking back at it, that one line summarizes my entire post. Do you want to know another truth? It's pretty much a fact.

I think this is a topic that is still under debate too. I am of the mind that logging in and out is something that needs to be tracked per player; I could log out on my friend's ship, my friend sells the ship, I log back in right on the bridge and steal the ship. Impossibley easy.

The true answer is that it has not been set in stone just yet; I personally feel that there should be some sort of element you log out of at, which then displays that you are logged out there, and if you don't log out at one of these elements then you respawn at your designated res node when you log back in.

But you are basing this off of assumptions, my friend.

A, that the supportive role will be "Pressing R", id est boring per definition, comparing it to mining in EvE.
B, that a player-built ship is universally better than smaller ones
C, 90% of people will want to constantly PvP in a voxel-based, crafting/building sci-fi MMO.

I am trying to tell you that bigger ships probably won't be as viable as you'd might think. That they would need screens and crews to be viable, thus limiting them to organizations. I'm guessing NQ will try to balance it to where three individuals on a ship might handle and direct as much firepower as three individuals in individual ships - the overall bonus and point to bigger ships is the overlook, focusing, and supportive role.

Also that playing a supportive role would prolly be more diverse and changeable than sitting on a spot "Pressing R", since that would indeed be boring and ineffective use of a person making me doubt NQ would implement it in such a way.

Furthermore, this game is a MMO and will host a variety of playstyles. Sure, PvP and Org versus Org will be a great focus of the game, but there will still be plenty of crafting, gathering, building and whatnot. Saying everybody wants to PvP all the time is more than far-fetched - it's absurd to anyone who have ever played a MMO

    Hello ATMLVE,

I hope my English translation is not as cruel as your German.

Unfortunately I had to experience in Elite Dangerous that the developers do not play their own game real, as many effects had completely idiotic effects or simply did not work as they should. The alpha / beta will eliminate most of the errors, but never all. Therefore, an organization that moderates acts more believable than invisible changes through divine hand.

    Hallo ATMLVE,

ATMLVE reacted to yamamushi in Fuel
That is actually a really good question, I don't know if we have heard where exactly we're supposed to get fuel from.

I think it's just assumed that it will require a bit of a refining process, but as to what we're pulling out of the ground to actually turn into fuel, I don't recall hearing anything about that.

My initial thought is that it might have something to do with "Trithorium" based on this glimpse of the crafting screen we saw in the Dev Diary from April:

(as an aside, I would like to know what "wadding" is going to be used for...)

Based on that, if I had to wager a bet, "fuel" is something we have to dig out of the ground as some type of raw material to be refined later.

It's worth pointing out that (afaik), in the Dev Diaries, they are always running on empty (or their fuel meters aren't ever changing), although they have talked about how engines will need to be attached to some type of fuel container to work.

There are actually some details on repairing ships already. During the GDC interview in February, JC was asked this question. He said that there will be elements which can repair constructs based on their original blueprint; as in, the repair unit is aware of what the construct is supposed to look like, and can gradually restore the construct back to that state.

Aiden, you sat on the Reddit for nearly over a year, ignoring requests from us to merge...

Not only that, you also sat on 45+ reddits, when we tried to reason with you to at least add a mutal friend between us to run it, you started to mute, censor and even ban people... This, hasn't stopped either... Several other users that are not even mods of either subreddit have been censored out during the past few days, just because they asked what was going on...

And we all know you're still mod of the reddit as well, the new moderator you so call "mod team" is no one the community knows or has heard of, a part from showing up a few days ago and being added to the mod list the same day the account was created...

And the pictures in this thread are not fake, those are being directly taken from the Reddit to show the amount of censorship you've done and caused...

If you got to the Reddit you can see that you and your mod team have only showed up when the issue is made public

So please, "edit out", we asked you to help solve this but you declined, and censored us out...

So now, well let NQ handle it again.

Yes, constructs stay together even when "split" apart. It all has to do with the core unit and blueprints and everything. Now, whether elements separated completely from power sources or the core unit will still work, or operate correctly, that's unknown.

Yeah, you could do this, but they are still rigidly connected. This would be no different than just combining them all into one big ship.

Atmo in ships probably isnt going to be high priority. We do all wear suits....so at worst we have to wear helmets in ships. Which honestly is probably a good idea regardless if they do make ship atmos. Since a hull breach could happen in theory.
