To me, Demeter's price hike makes no sense because the game hasn't improved.

As for NQ's server costs...? If they couldn't afford the technology, why did they make the game the way they did? What happened to all their claims of "cutting-edge" tech enabling "millions" to play together in a single shard environment...?

This is why I dislike it when people talk about how "innovative" DU is -- no, it isn't innovative, it's just they had a naive plan that was detached from reality.

It's only "novel" because the ideas presented are too good to be true, informed by inexperience rather than innovation. Innovation requires understanding the domain first, otherwise it's just idle dreaming. There's little difference between JC pitching DU and your stoner roommate having a "great idea for a game". They both have equal game dev experience, one just has a PhD in an unrelated field and VC money.

No one forced NQ to claim that DU was cutting-edge.
No one forced NQ to claim it would support millions of players.
No one forced NQ to talk up how you could "build without limits".

They did all this on their own based on inexperience and some naive vision......then realized it wouldn't work and raised prices while eliminating features...?

The reason this community seems so negative is because of NQ's own hubris in wanting to push a dream instead of build a reality. Of course people aren't happy when they dream they crafted doesn't align with reality.

Every single change with Demeter should have been done in closed alpha a long time ago.

After over 7 years, they still haven't figured out which parts of DU are actually possible and which parts will remain idle dreams.

Whatever you think DU ought to be based on everything they've said....forget it. It isn't possible and even if it were, NQ won't be able to build it.

Somehow the DU forum is pretty good at derailing every topic.
So I will just post my opinion about the "derailed" part which barely touches the original post. I am sorry.

Some people are very involved in the game. They are like
"Just login every day and everything is fine. And then you just do some missions which take roughly 4 hours AFKing and you are totally wealthy".
Problem is: Not everyone is playing games this way. Some people like to play a bit when they want to.

And about the "maths" part in this topic:
I probably "could" do the maths. But I just want to play this game for fun. If I am required to do maths about my possible income and wether or not I am able to pay my tile is a pretty bad game design idea. Because not everyone wants to min/max a game.
Some people just want to have fun and relax a bit.

Problem with your math is that it only works if you set your clock by the game, join regularly and behave like a good little citizen doing all the chores no questions asked.

It seems from reading the many great posts here that the community is divided on many issues that have both been presented in this looming update and some issues that have persisted from the start of this project. While I can appreciate NQ trying to save money whilst improving game play/smoothness they (NQ) also need to pay attention to what the community that makes up the game is saying about how the current state of the game is and what will happen going forward. The points I see from reading these comments:

    1. Talent points - complete refund or partial refund = They said its all or nothing on this issue so take a snap shot of your setup so you can easily get back to where your particular set up is too easy.
    2. Full wipe now or later at release - The community is really split on this issues I feel from the comments, my perspective as an 8 month or so player don't wipe there are literal works of art that took many hours of game play to build or code that was written. Now the code is saved and they have mentioned that you would get a "magic BP". Don't wipe don't destroy what players spent years building for the actions of a few.
    3. In ground Mining - I have been playing games and MMOs my whole life on and off I am 47, I will like most play what interests me even if there is a grind to it at first or through out hard work or effort with greater or equal payoff. There is no other way to say it we live in an instant gratification society and this too is split with some wanting this and some rolling up their sleeves. I feel players are missing the forest for the trees on this issue, with some very upset that in ground mining is being taken away while others are happy to see auto mining so they can either focus on building/creating or industry etc. I welcome the auto mining for those reasons will there be pain in the markets at first yes. I think over time this will become better.
    4. NQ not listening to the players - I think they (NQ) do listen to an extent but at the end of the day will make choices that benefit the company over what will benefit the majority/minority within the game. Should they listen absolutely they should take all relevant information before making decision in to account. Doing this will have a positive impact on not only the community but the game as a whole.

Speaking from experience knee jerk reactions, puffed up chests, and keyboard warriors do nothing but add fuel to an already blazing fire and cause more harm than good. NQ should listen to the community take it all in and have those comments/suggestions have an impact on what is decided as a path forward.

At the end of the day are you going to make everyone happy no matter which direction you choose to go NO never someone will always have a different opinion about how things should be done.  That being said there are some really wicked smart people in this space and have created literal works of art or a genius piece of code within the game.

I remember the last Q&A that NQ did on Oct 4th, Pann said at around the 11:15 mark she said go to the forums, I know people don't like them but that's where your voice will be heard, sorry NQ to use your words against you but if you want players in the game and not the same 5 people (being facetious) then listen to your words and listen to this community and weigh all the options.

Do more Q&A videos on these issues and this looming update, allow more time to find those game breaking bugs in the PTS, test test test and then test again before just pushing content to the live server.

I think DU did attract 2 different groups with the beta (payed alpha): landmark players and EVE players. Maybe more, but I am in the later group and it took a while for me to understand the "landmark" group.

Form what I have seen for the "landmark" players their focus is building only. It doesn't matter if something they have build serves any purpose. They like the building part itself and don't need any further gameplay loops. That is why an easy industry is nice for them because it gives an additional subtask to do which is easy enough to not take too much time from the building part.

For EVE players (as myself)  the gameloop is simply not finished with the building because we are used to having a goal after that (PvP).

The "landmark players" are really good for advertising the game. "Look at all these cool player build constructs!". Which is why DU tried to be really nice to them.
However for a lot of gamers only building stuff gets boring fast.

So they have to keep a balance between these groups. And since they tried really hard to attract the landmark group they made the game uninteresting for EVE players. And now it is difficult to get the EVE players back because every step in that direction will be criticized by the current "landmark" playerbase that is left.

Who are these "normal" people you are talking about?
This is a game. In which you are perfectly fine in the safe zone.
You are trying to draw conclusions from in-game actions to the actual person which is playing a game. And that is an extremely weird thing to do in my opinion.

One of the problems for me is also that they advertise a "beta" version of the game which does not exist.
I came here for example because of this trailer:

It talks a lot about stuff that is simply not in the game and has been delayed after release.
For example they show atmo fights, talk about massive warfare with hundreds of ships and hint a lot in the direction of territory warfare. Features which are simply not there at all and will not be there in the near future.

PleiJades got a reaction from Cabana in PERMANENT REMOVE SCHEMATICS FROM THE GAME
    Just my 2 cents:
I stopped playing about the time 0.23 came out. However it had nothing to do with schematics and I really don't understand why people are so obsessed with them.
The reason for me why I stopped playing was that my inital sub expired and after the initial start to build some ships and a bit of a factory the game got really boring.
Actually I pretty much stopped playing about 1-2 weeks before 0.23. I even logged in after 0.23 hit (because you could still login if your sub had already expired). I bought some schematics but then again the game got really boring and I stopped.
Longterm this game is mostly interesting for people who like to build pretty things which have no actual use. There are no real gameloops and in my opinion it is just a bad game except the first few months in its current state. Building is simply not enough to keep me interested longterm.
I also play this other "oldschool spaceship game" and if I compare both of them I really don't know why I should come back to DU.
