  1. I think it is going to make combat hard if it is only PvP. Without PvE to get your trainer wheels tested, you are going to go straight into a world of hurt. There are no ways to practice in a less deadly environment. Hopefully you will find your way into one of the org run conflicts like the star wars event or the many xs core events. But since these are run by orgs it can be easy to miss them, and since they are not run or monitored by NQ, there is nothing stopping g the grief tears from showing up and ganking everybody if they find the location. If they aren’t goi g to provide PvE elements, at least provide abilities for player orgs to run things and not have them ruined.
  2. Big bulldozers come and shove everything off the platform every hour!
  3. Darn, hope support have a solution for you when your finish work. My skill que is about 600 days ?
  4. Little confused. I think the industry need to be enhanced and have more to it. It’s the mining so I can play with my factory I find soul crushing
  5. Recycling was mentioned awhile ago, but haven’t heard anything about it recently
  6. Darn, can you keep leaving it when it says not responding to see if it ever catches up? Or is it not one of those ones that gives you the option to continue waiting? If so how long have you given it? What do your cpu, network and memory stats look like under task manager while it’s doing it? Completely static or changing? Imdo t get home from work for about seven hours so I am following your thread very closely in case I have issues as by the time I get to my game most support will be finished for the day ?
  7. I’m for anything that makes Industry more complex and more interesting. Now is is the time to do it, as the latter you make a major change the more complaints you’ll get.
  8. I assume you have tried the regular things like running as administrator
  9. Wow, sorry if I offended you dude. I was just responding to the thread. And as for what the OP was clearly meaning, lets take some of his quotes... Dispenser NPC, not really interactive, just reading the same script the info button has. Maybe a tiny bit of character if given voice and gestures. Station that fires at anything coming near it, yip interactive but still a faceless gun, definably no character there guy connected to Lua, ok that could be cool; but still just an nicer looking presentation of a screen flowers that shoot people who walk past, slightly interactive, some to consider when they develop AvA; but wouldn't call then having character. These were the examples from the OP. I'm not saying NPC bad, no NPC. I'm all for them. I just feel that then adding market bots is basically a type of NPC anyhow as they are interacting (at a not reactive basic level) in the player market making changes to the player driven market by influencing prices and whether people will travel from planets to sell mined ore. Sorry if my belief that they are basically simple NPCs isn't the same as yours, but arguing about it is pulling away from the topic which was... What it means to us that they are still saying no NPCs to me it means they are painting themselves into a corner taking away a easy mechanic of adding a lot of content to the game, which they will have to get either very creative to introduce other ways, or just go back on there decision.
  10. while developing maybe the right approach, but they should consider migrating once they are up and running and know what they are in need of. Use cloud services while you are setting up and developing and don't really know what you require, which from their post on DB usage seems true. But once you have a better picture look at moving more inhouse
  11. Since the NPCs (bots) aren't reducing the price they are buying ore for, the ore price is staying high. The higher the ore price, the higher the price of all elements made with ore, therefore ships for your new players your example used. If the ore prices were allowed to fall, elements and then ships would reduce as well. What this mean would be casual players who only play an hour or so a session would start getting better value for their 150K they get each session when they log in. Also, ore is a finite resource. Since the bots are happy to buy it at a given price, shouldn't they be selling it at a few quanta higher so it isn't being magically removed from the universe?
  12. I think NPC PvE combat would be good in two ways. 1. It would introduce players to the fun of combat, with it actually being fun and even. Give them time and opponents to build up theirs skills, their ships and get into the combat way of playing. 2. If people build up,and get into PvE, there is a chance more will enjoy and move up to PvP at some stage.
  13. I like semantics. My factory got destroyed and is nowhere near what it was prior to 0.23, but I’m ok with that, beta is for game balancing. What I don’t like about schematics is that they are only sourced from NPC bots! This means their prices are fixed and the player base can’t move it. It means their availability is fixed and the player base can’t influence it. How would I fix it? Tier one refinery schematics are very cheap, or not even required. After that ALL schematics are player based. Any construct which has industry running in it will slowly over time generate research points based on how many and what is produced. Producing a warp drive produces more schematic points than producing a litre of pure iron. You have a research machine. Every now and then, it will take your schematic points, and spit out a random schematic. How will it decide what schematic you get. It will look at all the industry in the current construct, and it will give you a schematic that you already have, or one that you don’t have yet, but you are producing everything which is required to make that item. its random, you don’t get to chose if it spits out a tire one schematic, or if it will save up points for ages and spit out a higher one. Now you have a new schematic, let the free market begin. Use it to expand your industry, barter it for one you really wanted, or sell it for coin. Now you can develop your industry without having to buy of NPC bots. You have a PC market for schematics. suggestions or fine tuning ideas?
  14. How is it unrelated? an entity other than a player bringing or changing content in the game is pretty much a NPC. If market orders had names attached to them, then the bot orders would be NPC names. Seems related to me. im just using the example that they already have NPCs and they suck. I hope they bring in more NPCs for different things, I’d love PvE combat as I have no interest in PvP combat. But I find them saying they don’t have NPCs as false as bots are pretty much NPCs as far as I’m concerned. Just as much as the unmanned platform which fires anybody who approached example given above.
  15. We already have NPCs, and they suck the life out of the game. The market bots. they buy ore at all planets and moons. What does this do, it artificially sets the ore price rather than let the market determine it. they also stop a lot of transport. Why risk dragging ore in from the planets if you can get the same price on the planets and moons. Dont forget the schmatics, they are the biggest expense in the game for some of us, but we can’t produce them, they are a drain in the economy, rather than a point of trade!
  16. AGGs fall out of the sky sometimes. It’s a beta. i wouldn’t completely give up on the game though. Maybe come back in six months, or even wait to give it a shot once it reaches release. Wish I had one but I’m to broke ?
  17. Currently if we log off, we stop moving in space. if somebody finds us we resume our movement. When we log back in, we resume movement. it doesn’t make sense. I think we should keep our movement as well as our velocity when we are off line. yes since most work is done client side rather than server side, it would be a little more effort for NQ to keep track of where a construct is at any particular time, but it has to be a pretty linear calculation. this means if I am slow boating to Feli, logging off, taking up less of NQ resources wouldn’t effect me. I’d still be moving. I’d still be at risk of being found and killed by pirates. Maybe only do it for clean logouts. Surly the server can tell when somebody has cleanly logged off, rather than crashed or disconnected. just resuming velocity but not having moved in space makes it feel single player game rather than living always there MMO.
  18. I do t think I want asteroids, but rather comets. Start them a few thousand SU out of the solar system, and have them travel about 1000km/ hr (speed to be determined during PTS test phase). Some will pass through the safe zone at some stage, some won’t go anywhere near it. You have ave a limited time to mine. When you decide to stop is really up to you, as once it has gone through the system it will just keep going for a few thousand SU before completely despawning. Since warp max distance is only 500su, if you decide to chase it for 5000su, good for you, hope you did your sums right and the trip back is worth the ore. - Advantages, you may find it early if out in the right place. - once it is gone, and nobody is anywhere near it, they can despawn it and it no longer takes space up in their DB - finding it could be a challenge, like in the very old days of ED when you basically found things by parallax. Travelling way out in space and looking for objects that moved slightly more relative to your position compared to others gives you an idea of things which are closer. - you have to make conscious game play decisions on how long it is worth mining vs the distance home - PvPers have to make a decision how long they are willing to camp on it before returning to a base - They can control ore speed by how many they spawn at once. Thats what I’d like to see, but as I said, more of a comet than a asteroid game loop.
  19. Currently mining is one of the core job choices. There are a lot of talents to invest into it to become good/productive. I am hoping that they rejiggle the talents. Give us new talents for the auto miners. Give us better miners which can be made with higher tier ores and industry. Basically make it so hard core miners can still still invest heavily in mining to become better than those who don’t, just like industry, piloting, PvP, etc. With a good rejigger players will be running around looking for good spots to place their mining rigs, clearing their bins, investing talents and ore in getting better skills and equipment. Another good game loop. Or they could just give us a machine each which doesn’t add to gameplay.
  20. The passive income will probably be set at a level which means the people who play for a couple of hours a session can stop going down holes for ore. i suspect it won’t stop the people who go down holes seven hours a day from doing it unless it’s scalable. If it’s scalable it will need a lot of balancing, but then again this is beta, that’s when you balance I suppose
  21. Completely mineable planets is going to be a big DB draw, no question about that. Of course I assume they don’t give me the entire layout of a hex I am just flying or walking over down to the core. I just need it down to where I can expect to make it soon, the range of my sensors as soon as I turn one on I suppose. But even the sensors don’t need every hole, just the materials they can pick up. More surface gathering would mean less holes, but who does that once they have left Sanctuary. Only time I ever do it now is when I need enough scrap to repair a container on a crashed ship. I find it more enjoyable than deep mining, but there is just no coin in it. Maybe if they made talents and higher tier ores they could get more of us wanting to keep our territory nice and original so we could wizz around it collecting ores.
  22. As long as you are not forcing the people who enjoy industry into game loops which they don’t like, such as exploration etc. personaly I have two problems with industry, 1. It is two simple. Make it more complex, especially for higher tier stuff. Industry guys really like to get into the nuts and bolts of getting things going and optimised, and this current system is just two simple. 2. More ways to compete. Currently the only way to compete with other industry guys is to have better talents. It doesn’t matter how good you are at arranging refiners, chemical plants, overflows, etc.. The only way to compete is to have money to have more schematics, and/or to have higher talents. The talents is a good start, to seperate the industry invested from the other invested players, but there should also be a. Level of skill, optimisation etc. which also gives an advantage.
  23. Never said automining was unlimited. Maybe it just does the same as regular mining, remove the ore from a hex, but at a set rate. Guess the grind would then just switch from mining to scanning.
  24. With out a constant stream of new players, a game like this won’t survive. So we gotta listen to what they experience. We want them to stick around. Sure, it’s not helpful if there comment is “I’ve plastered for a week, but I can’t afford a golden L core battle ship. My factory can’t make everything. This ship I designed sucks and it should be fantastic” BUT... we still have to listen to what they say. Maybe we need a PvP arena where you can have a leader board for XS (and every other size) cores, where the prize money on average for an average player will be more than their losses. So they can experience PvP. A new factory will never compete with somebody who has seven months of talents invested in theirs. But maybe a mission could be take these components to this area and set up a fuel station for us. Or maybe deliver us 100 Uncommon Component(s) from a factory you own. Their first ship build is not going to be good, but give them something to work from. Mission make a ship from the components in this container and fly the ship to location xx for sale. we got to give the new players game, and listen to their problems so they become long term players
  25. Sweet, something to do with my Sanctuary hex ?
