    Hi everyone,

Despite the fact we hate playing the police on the forum, it seems there's a need for some clarification about rules on this forum:
    - Being 14 years old isn't a viable excuse for not following forum rules. If someone is not able to interact respectfully with other members of the community, he (or she) will be banned, no matter the age.
    - Saying "kys" is absolutely NOT okay, even followed by "JK". If it was, it would be too easy to insult and/or harass everyone and get away with it by just finishing a message by "JK".
    - Hate speech against a specific group (be it racial, sexual related, or political affinity) is absolutely forbidden.

    @Dragoon:
As everything stated above happened in this thread or another, this is the first and final warning.
If this behavior continues, this will escalate with a ban without further notice.
I hope we won't have to resort to this kind of action.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Really excited to get a bit more of a peak at the building tools in action!

Pretty disappointed in IGN though.  The title of the article is literally just "No Man's Sky Style game" and they never even bothered to tweet the article because they're too busy tweeting Dos Equis ads and pics of Gary Busy.

My proposed idea: Prisoner of War.

    In-game mechanic: PvP

Objective: To obtain prisoners during PvP battles to gain a desired resource. Either currency, resources, or simply a strategic negotiating tool to gain land.

How could it work: In order to be able to obtain a prisoner, you first need to make a Capture Unit. This will enable the obtaining of one prisoner per unit, and each unit will not be easy to make or acquire. Reason being, if they are too easy to make, then too many people will be taken as prisoner, which isn't ideal, and should probably only be reserved for special circumstances. It would also ensure organizations only use a Negotiation Unit when it is a strategic necessity.

I envision a Capture Unit to work much like a ball and chain. In that, when placed and activated it can target the desired player, and essentially hold them in place, moving only when the player in control of the Capture Unit, enables them to move, and move only where the controller moves.

The Capture Unit could come in two parts. A larger element of it could reside at a base. Much like a cryo-chamber. When captive has been taken by the mobile portion of the unit, which you would carry on you, they can be teleported essentially, to the cryo-prison chamber and held there.

Now, no player would want to be held indefinitely, there needs to be a limit. Long enough for ransom bartering to be effective, but not too long. If it's too short it would be ineffective.

If no ransom is agreed, there needs to be a penalty to the prisoner. That penalty, in my view, would need to be harsh enough to prompt an organization to want to rescue their comrade. So at the end of the countdown limit, if no ransom deal is reached, the prisoner must die.

Possibly ressurect at the location they were captured, or less harshly, at their own location.

    Never heard of loot councils.
I would not have continued to play with a group that had loot councils.
And, I'm a hippie/commie/socialist who almost always rolls greed because I am not a capitalist. Nor am I competitive. I am a co-operative player.

Voxel game play has everything to do with this topic because voxels provide us with the means to gather resources and create own gear and food.
We can survive just fine in safe zones if we wish to be free from slavery. It will not be possible to enslave players in Dual Universe.

I could go through line-by-line and destroy your arguments one-by-one, but, it's not worth the effort.
    What you describe isn't slavery.
Taking on a quest is a choice - slaves don't have the freedom to refuse a task they they're given.
If people wish to form relationships in Dual Universe where they work for other people to gain rewards, they will have the freedom to do so. But that isn't slavery.

    And... I'm done.

    I don't think that's true.

I would bet that at any point in history no matter what level of technology is available, it would probably cost more to buy a human and keep them healthy and alive, then it would to acquire available technology that is capable of doing the same job.  If there isn't any technology available then there's nothing to compare.

And as a game mechanic it's just a bad idea for obvious reasons.

I would be afraid this would flood NQ with frivolous reports by people looking for a reward.

And it would also give an excuse to anyone caught screwing around with things they shouldn't be.

Making the game better should be reward enough.  Why incentivize people to hack the game?

The outer reaches of our solar system are populated with dwarf planets, icy rocks (which incidentally are where comets come from), possibly even a brown dwarf.  These are theorised to extend out to at least a light year from the sun, possibly much further.  That is a significant portion of the distance to the next star.  If all solar systems are surrounded by such an assortment of rocks, small planets, and other bodies they can provide stepping stones between systems.

It is thought that there are more rogue planets in the milky way than there are stars.  The space in between systems can be populated with these rogue planets.  Other possibilities are vast asteroid clusters, dense gas clouds, alien ship wrecks, other cosmic phenomenon, and anything else you can think of.  TBH this is not the first time I've brought this up https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/499-interstellar-space/?hl=interstellar  And I shared a cool article about rogue planets a while ago too https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/547-rogue-planets/?hl=%2Brogue+%2Bplanets.

Having this kind of content in interstellar space would make the DU universe truly unique and "continuous".

I'd imagine there will be food that's high in energy, and going by other aspects of the game, it won't be easy to make or come by. I don't forsee food being such a hindrance as to divert from anything. Energy, making important equipment will be time consuming and challenging, I think it will all fit together nicely in a way that makes sense.

I really appreciate a game that has depth. It seems there are so few games out there these days with real heart and soul, real meaning and depth of gameplay. So much of it is surface, superficial.

Truly I look forward to a game that feels gritty, and sometimes even difficult, with surmountable obstacles. Having to eat, and not just that, but having the necessary technology necessary to grow the food, farm it, process it...all adds to the complexity of gameplay.

At this point we're shooting in the dark, but I don't equate food with a survival game. Dual houses many aspects, and it is essentially about surviving, but it's not at its core a survival game. We'll need to survive temperature, as mentioned in another blog, attacks from other players, we'll have to master travel and improving technology, obtaining and using fuel supplies. There's going to be so much we need to do, it feels deep, meaningful and purposeful when all elements are put together.

its pretty simple, there will be people who buy stars to give them to others and people who do everything to get those stars, especially if they are linked to something like playtime. The people spending money on those stars aren't the problem, thats fine. The problem are those people who would do a lot to get these stars, for example creating a lot of polarizing posts, attacks on more or less disliked members of a community etc.
It doesnt need to work always, for something like that its ok if 1 out of 50 posts gives a star, as long as you post enough. Thats why it would induce spam.
The ideal that only high quality posts get stars won't happen because people are emotional creatures and if someone starts an emotional or polarizing topic then there are bound to be some who give out stars for that.

We make our own laws and our decide our own rules. I won't be playing by your rules. I, for one, will be playing by my own.

That's the essence of a free spirit. We break away from the 'mould' and forge our own path.

Let's keep the forum money free. Last thing I need is visiting a forum, trying to read reviews/how-tos, just so see a bunch of "package opening" crap because everyone is trying to get everyone to "sub" their channel so they can gain financially.

Let the reviews/input/ideas stay that way, it is posted because the players have a real interest in making the game better, and not tied to some financial gains.

No, reddit does this to increase their amount of posts due to players trying to "earn" those trophies, which isn't exactly the goal for the DU forum.
I'd rather not want a system that induces spam.
