Yes, the article was a bit unexpected as we didn't contact MassivelyOp staff beforehand. (it was planned, but not before a few months).
As the official communication is not yet ready, it's understandable to see skepticism and harsh comments, often tied to partial knowledge of the game and/or shortcuts taken leading to misinterpretation. As several of you already said: that's the internet. No need to be angry. If you think someone has understand wrong, just let him explain what he has perceived from the game, and then explain to him on which parts he was wrong. Some spicy comments can also point to a real problem, so they shouldn't be ignored too quickly. I tried to make some clarifications below the article, but my livefyre account doesn't seem to have authorization to display the comments I post. I'm currently investigating if there's something wrong with MassivelyOp staff.
 
Nobody can prevent salty comments to appear.
But we can certainly correct false statements, methodically and calmly, one after another.

No reason to get angry over it, not like their comments mean anything. Either the game will be, or not. The final product will be whatever NQ wants to do with it. Neither me, you, or anyone else really has any say over that. So just ignore the naysayers. 

As a person who is very musically inclined, I would love to see music in a more intractable form.
 
What I have mind is something like instruments we can play, or jukeboxes, as well as a way to import our own music.
 
That last is pretty much wishful thinking on my part, as I have no idea how that could be coded in. But I know that Starbound has done it, where you move an ABC file into a folder in the game's files, and the song (the ABC file) is now available for the player to perform on the instruments in the game.
 
In general, I would love to see music beyond the general ambience that comes from a source, be it a player or a jukebox type thing.

It's funny how such a basic question has such a huge impact. The ability to sit will impact a lot of things, from in-game leisure to full on formal meetings.

And since we're all members of what I like to call Alpha Team A, we'd do best at forming groups early on. If any of go pirate, it'd that much safer for us, since we'd typically travel in convoys consisting of several ships.

From what I know, there are already plans for an FTL mechanic to allow us to jump between systems, as well as a warp gate mechanic where we have to build a structure at each destination for it to work.
 
So the issue here is how things will be handled at sub-light speeds. I like Klatu's idea of using an equation for a stellar speed limit with mass holding a direct relationship to the max speed and acceleration.
 
To that end, it is possible to attach a massive engine and MAC cannon to form something of a gunboat, a low resource weapon. Or use several massive engines to attempt to propel a massive capital ship.

Since the general consensus seems to be that there is no such thing as "too early" to form groups, I figured I'd get a jump start on it.
 
I'd be the leader of this group, but I lead with the opinions of my people in mind. To that end, I typically ask every with me for advice on all matters, and generally give everyone a hand in the direction we take. It's a de-centralized method, but it's worked well for the nine years that I've been playing MMOs. (tl/dr: I generally lead by consensus)

Funny you say that I've been thinking about this lately.  Maybe not the timey-wimey stuff, that's just too trippy, but the cosmic speed limit.  So instead of F=ma, use E=mc^2/(sqrt(1-(v^2/c^2)).  i.e. as speed increases and gets closer to c it's gets harder and harder to increase speed more.  This is all nicely self balancing and doesn't require weird speed limits like in Eve and Elite.  Also, just imagine massive space battles if you've got engines good enough to propel little fighters up to 80% of c, hundreds of them zooming around the solar system...

you could list the alpha testers on some kind of pioneers statue somewhere in the starting zone.

Alpha testers just want to make the game better (or, at least, they should).
 
So, in my opinion, best rewards would be to :
Listen to them and give them the tools and opportunities to make positive and negative critics. Maybe let them chose some of the universe names like planets, items, or maybe become backstory characters ? I'm sure some of us would love to write our own stories . Also, quick idea: it may be a good idea to organize some open discussions with game designers over TS/mumble/Skype. Looking at the number of alpha testers, it is still manageable.

It could work. But I'd love a colored nanformer beam way more. Actually has a gameplay effect, and people are like WOAH he's an alpha tester.
 
But I'm greedy and I think we need both. Because all the alpha testers are gonna be heads of corporations, we aren't going to be building our bases. We got people to do that for us.
 
TLDR; I would prefer a coloured nano-former beam and Alpha Team Outfit.

I inquired some time ago as to the possibilities of mechs, mobile suits, and such, and Nyzaltar linked me to a page with the concept art of moving parts, hinges, that sort of thing. While I didn't see anything specifically for a giant robot, I'm sure that between the two of us, we can figure something out.

I feel the same way. Games right now seem to be in stagnant state. The great MMO's we have played all seem to be watered down in favor of micro transaction and cute pets vs fun game play or making a game for fun.
 
I was playing a voxel building game in closed beta, but that company seems to have shifted focus for a while off that game onto another and its kinda dried up. Not really playing much of anything at the moment.  I hope Dual fits that hole where I have a desire to play games. It appears to me that the people heading up Dual and working on it are passionate, intelligent and quite artistic. I have good feelings about this game.

i definitely prefere the former 2 as i always like descriptive names.
But dont put much worth into my opinion, i'm someone who names his cities in civilization "city0"++
