We're looking forward to having our first guest on this week!

FrigoPorco has been publishing DU magazines on Twitter, and has recently come onto the forums with his work:

We're going to try and focus on reducing the length of these roundtables in the future, although it's fun to talk about DU for 2 hours, it's probably not in the best interest of our viewers.

We had some difficulties with Twitch messing up the audio in the first few minutes, so it starts somewhat abruptly after the intro video, sorry about that.

In other news, we are always accepting new members to the DU Explorers community. There are no requirements, other than having an interest in Dual Universe :-)

Not exactly a game mechanic, so I suppose this thread goes in this forum.

Click here to listen to my 4 hours of work. Imagine a 3-engine atmospheric hovercraft 10 meters ahead of you.

We've been teased screenshots, models, textures and music, but we haven't really been teased interesting sound effects (outside of cockpit_enter sound and footsteps_grass.ogg). This leaves me cause for concern, that one of the most important tools in immersion, sound, could be taking a bit of a back-seat in Dual Universe. (Unigene2 defaults? Good enough!  )

Coming back to my little sci-fi jet engine type of thing, I know it's not amazing by any standards, personally it sounds like something from a low-budget sci-fi short, but the sound itself is not the point, I'd like to emphasize what happens to the sound as the 'craft' moves up and then away from the listener. Most open-world sandbox games do not handle sound coming from extreme distances very well, or at all.(*cough*spaceengineers*cough*)

I hope Dual Universe has plans to make a proper soundscape on planets, where you can hear what you can see, as it is a key factor in immersing the player in the first few hours of game-play on a planet.

Seriously. Am I the only one who really wants to hear a Ker-Thunk coming from across the valley, several kilometers, when someone's construct explodes? Or a deep rumbling in the sky when a heavier aircraft flies across the sky, a kilometer or two away. Mmmmm... oops, better stop drooling.

So basically you're asking if we'll have Space Rain on the very outer edge of star systems? Let's hope they implement space wipers for our space wind-shields so we can see our space clearly while we go out to space.

Something to get away from all you freaks as fast as possible.

On a more serious note, I can see myself buying pew pew defensive ships to follow me around, since I'm not that great at PvP.

On the topic of physics, I hope their ballpark for 30 days until space was for the technology that allows interplanetary travel by just pointing at the planet desired. Whereas more Newtonian-aware players, especially those who have played KSP would be able to use chemical rockets to get themselves off planet much earlier using, much more crude in comparison, chemical rockets, proper orbital mechanics and a concept of deltaV.

I feel like this would cater to both player bases - ones who come for an EVE-like game, and those who come for a space sim.

    Hi,

This is rather question to our community manager (I summon @NQ-Nyzaltar !), but you can respond too

Community portal is fun and very interesting in terms of community growth, but it lacks some purely technical features - for me two main concerns are: impossibility to edit replies in topic, lack of customize titles for corp members (who is director, who is legate, who is line member and so on...) and "flat" structure of organisations - we already have have powerful coalitions, but they function like "normal" corporations, being different type.

I can point few more requests, but I rather would to know where I can address them? To special topic (like this one , PM Nyzaltar, or some other way? If someone can point me to right direction, I will be grateful.

PS: In absence of such topic about community website feedback, I think that we can temporally post our propositions here

Not read or seen anything about this so its an idea/question.  Should organizations be able to have there own bank where all members can add to or where taxes auto go.

To further my thoughts on this ,I'd like to see a system where players within the organization have farmed materials, elements etc, when farmed or created auto deposited into the clans bank(this of course is an option check box or slider bar or possible even a tech upgrade within the clan).

Why would we ever want something like this?  Well as a player do you need those ten thousand bronze ores? or could those go to constructors/builders?  In the end they get what they need and you get better gear out of it.

While I understand large organized groups will have no problem handing the mats over to who ever needs them it would simply be nice to have them auto deposited to a central clan banking system then handed out by admin/bankers to where the clan needs them the most.

In the end its to allow the idea that a single large group can excel over individual units with the right management.

From what i can tell from reading old topics and some dev blogs the answer to your question is yes. Organizations will be able to create their own private banks if they wish so with some level of automation.
For example: you work for a mining company and you have an account in their bank that gets a daily salary. After X amount of hours a cut from the main bank gets transferred to your account under your name in the same bank for you to use. So more or less similar to real life.
whether the currency in particular is backed by a type of element (resource) or some form of "fiat" money it really depends on who runs the bank.

Regarding the second topic its also a yes. its all emergent game play after all and very flexable. I cant really add more of my input into this since you pretty much kinda answered your own question. All the things you have mentioned here are all very much possible and doable with the direction the devs are bringing DU towards.

Just stumbled upon this game and I am really amazed by what is shown right now. MMO Universe, universal editable, seamless transitions, actually using LUA for scripting... that's a dream coming true! And I very much hope it will.

There will however be a lot things to do, which are not shown yet in the videos. Namely server performance, how to prevent people from spawn-camping new players, and the whole economy issues for players joining month after the start, where everybody and their mom have a huge star destroyer and can snuff you out in the blink of an eye. I am looking forward to your solutions for all the things ahead and hope you will continue as impressive as you have been so far.
Oh and btw. if you need more alpha testers with rock-solid gaming background and excellent skills at constructive complaining, feel free to send me a PM.

Another interesting thing which definitely exists are rogue planets - planetary objects not orbiting a star. I read somewhere these would outnumber the stars in the galaxy. As in Oort clouds, it would be pitch-black there - one would have to rely on radar, night vision, searchlight, flares ...

In Jumpgate, there was one big dark asteroid between two jumpgates, lovingly christened "Emma" by the pilots; countless ships were lost by "kissing Emma" if one forgot to watch the radar carefully.

So, there could be dangerous places "out there" which can only be handled by experienced pilots with special equipment, who take their time to caerefully scout routes to rewarding destinations.

A lot of death, a lot of salt, and a lot of mining. I imagine everyone will be scrambling to be the first to build a star ship and go out for a big land rush.

Indeed. Tear snd erosion could fix any exposed surface, giving a trigger effect after the server detects player editing taking place. It's viable and emergent. And yes, if you could put an alloy that resists erosion, that could trigger the server's cellular system to tell the terrain that there's no more erosion beyond the point it connects and "hugs" the construct. I can see possible glitches emerging, namely, texture clipping through walls, but it's nothing that can't be patched later on in developement.

I would have to disagree with you on this count.

The way erosion works is it moves nearby voxels around, without necessarily introducing new material.
It also does not have to happen over-night.

The Devs have mentioned creating a voxel smoothing tool before the Alpha release. It almost seems like a no-brainer to apply a smoothing operation to all surfaces that are not consisting of man-made materials such as concrete on a set period, every 24 hours, for instance. This would gradually create undulating grassy terrain where once grand mining operations have taken place.

And to further this, adding in-game communication solutions is never going to be a negative, and one shouldn't be going in with the assumption that everyone's just going to be using 3rd party solutions anyways

Megaddd reacted to Anaximander in What are skills? and how do they work?
They did confirm it will be horizontal progression system. But you still compare EVE's point and click adventure gameplay in PvP, with stationary ships and attributes to a game with physics, mass and ships' structural integrity of the frame playing a role in their effectiveness. As far as the devs have explained it, skill will allow you to create elements (consoles, screens etc. ) and make you BETTER at using them, while a guy wihout a specialisation won't be as effective at them. Just because the two systems share the horizontal progression "Wait to upgrade" theme, doesn't mean that the core gameplay in PvP will be based on the same mechanics. You seem to be one of the "I want EVE 2.0. with Legos in space" kind of person, which is apparent, due to the toxicity that saps out of you with every post.

Something I thought about the past few days. We know that the planets can be morphed and changed by players. But my question is will planets ever be reset. Because I'm dreading the day when we have multiple planets with huge chunks missing from them due to mining or just whatever.

If anyone is familiar with minecraft online servers then just think about some of the big ones that become hideous due to all the holes and a lack of resources because its all been mined, which is why they reset the world seed every so often to start fresh.

I'm not saying they have to restart the whole game but I'm hoping there is some sort of way to prevent planets from becoming super ugly pitted spheres.

Not really no, I'm just showing my appreciation on other people's replies that help and guide newcomers in the community, instead of doing the sanitised and anti-social "like this", I opt to leave a comment to show my respect for a person who got into the trouble of finding a thread and copying a link to a thread with the same topic.

And if you think I reply for the post count, wait till you see the wall of texts in my PM box where I argue with people over intellectual differences to avoid flooding the forums, which PM by the way, do not count towards my post count. Be social, be helpful, be opinionated, but don't be a derp. Good day to you good sir.
