Any addition to the game that adds to the immersion of the universe we will all be in, is a good addition in my book. Bring on the blizzards, torrential rains, and dust storms!

In the Dual Universe lore story there is mention of people exploring the planet with Balloon powered ships.

Even in this devblog there is mention of a Balloon powered vehicle (also food and survival mechanics, but that's a whole other issue):

    https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2014/08/17/about-the-alpha-gameplay/

However, I haven't seen much discussion in the way of this type of vehicle, and recent interviews have skipped over mentioning the topic.

I'm wondering if this is still planned for the game, or if Balloon vehicles were dropped from the roadmap.

We've all seen the various videos released, and it's pretty clear that there is at least one massive ocean on the planet demo'd in them. I think I'd much rather cross an ocean in a Balloon powered vehicle than I would a hovercraft.

It's called active lock-on, it's like targeting someone with your mouse, only your "mouseover" is tied to the center of your screen. It's emulation of shooting, without the heavy simulation associated with it.

IMO, it's the best way of tab-targeting. It involves skill and leading the target.

Well hey, there is also costs involved in here. No matter how many upgrades are done, it could be that using stargates when possible is the cheapest method of moving vast distances in a short amount of time. Using the warp engine, while it could get faster in the future, could be really expensive power wise and only get more expensive as you try to push the warp engines to go faster and faster.

I don't know why this is an issue.  Everyone who downloads the game will get a free trial period in which to try out the game.  Even if it's a 2 week period, that's more then you get to decide if you like a game you bought on steam (you get 2 hours on steam).  NOBODY WHO DOWNLOADS THE GAME IS IN ANY WAY OBLIGATED TO PAY A DIME.  Many of us on this forum enjoy going to the theater to see a movie now and then.  Movie tickets these days cost anywhere from $8 to $15 and of course you then buy the refreshments, and you probably are going with someone, so you end up spending about $40 for at most 3 hours of entertainment.  Now if you spend $15 a month on a game, you have to play less then half an hour a month to get the same value for your entertainment.  Don't complain that you can't afford to pay a subscription if ever go see a movie in the theaters.  Hell, you could probably make your subscription money by going on craigstlist and gathering scrap metal from the free area and taking it to a recycler.  Or just put 50 cents a day in a jar and deposit it in your bank every month.  If you can't spend 50 cents a day to play a game for as many hours as you like in that day then you really don't want to play any games and you should probably go join a monastery somewhere and take up Gregorian chants as a hobby instead.

$60?  thats how much a good single player game goes for, that if you halfheartedly play, will beat, and be done playing in 2 months or less.  This game is not a single player game, or one that the vast majority of the players will be done with after 2 months.  So for a one time fee idea, I would want you to pay, $540.....
Thats $15 a month for 3 years.  No i don't need to break it down as a math problem either.

I would love to know, what computer you are going to play this game on, living on a limited budget.  If you really had a limited budget, you would have spent computer money on food, and other necessities of life.  please don't portray yourself as something you are not.  This game IF $15 a month, is the same as giving up going out to eat once or twice a month, or a couple of trips to a starbucks.  Or giving up Coke, and switching to drinking water.

I for one, am glad its going to be Pay to play, and will send in that cash every month if this game is as good as it looks.  Not only that but if my kids want to play it, I will give them their own accounts as well.  AND yes I live by a very strict budget, and am willing to make a SMALL sacrifice for a great game that I love to play.  It will not hurt the company to lose people to cheap to pay, because I bet you are here on launch day like the rest of us.

I was thinking about it the other day; having a cargo ship smuggle in tanks and soldiers and unleashing them on an unsuspecting organization. What fun!

You could also smuggle people out of someone's space. Maybe they got trapped there or captured and they want out. Or perhaps they had carried out a sabotage mission and they're now looking for a ride back home. Think of the possibilities!

Band of Outlaws is sure to be a fun, action packed organisation. Cybrex and any other leaders they may have, are undoubtedly going to treat you very nicely!

I hope we can work out cooperative deals, I have a couple things in mind already~

1.) I hope we can find some games for the DU community at large to play while we wait, possibly setup some match making somehow to find peoples to play with, or spar against.

2.) I was wondering how you all might feel about a CO-OP city or station, mostly for pirates, mercs, smugglers or other shadowy peoples. The name Tortuga came to mind, that was always one of my favorite city names from Pirate of the Burning Sea, plus Tortuga 'Turtle' Station is just cool, but Id be open to whatever, just an idea if you thought a neutral zone haven might be cool, sell off your looted goods to traders and return the goods back to the market.

3.) You... know, a certain organisation might need to hire organised raiders to shake the status quo up from time to time...

Uhhh what... I mean I love peace, yeah, yeah rainbows, skittles, peace!

If there's something I can do to help you compatriots out shoot me a message, regardless of my position.   P.S. Ryoko, nice Girls und Panzer icon, if thats not GnP lemme know i like the style.

Yes, indeed, they could be tied to rare "scrolls" that can be turned into schematics in the game, sorta alien tech, which would require "Reverse Engineering" as a skill for an engineer to decipher said schematics and create the Elements they provide. Could be interesting.

Methinks that'll just make markets more lucrative, since the lack of resources in that area means people can't get them in bulk quite as easily.

I think that all sorts of things will be prone to smuggling, particularly when a group decides to have a monopoly on a certain good in a given territory.

If a particular group wants to control all imports and exports of a given resource, regardless of if it is stat boosters or raw materials, they might otherwise confiscate it from people if they find it in their cargo. Wars might be fought over territory for the right to distribute, not just acquire, a given commodity, and it's not so far fetched considering how often it has happened in the real world over all sorts of things.

You can imagine a black market opening up for all sorts of things, if it means that you are hiding trades from the owners of a given territory over something they would frown upon.

I might want to have new players come to my planet, and in return I'm hoping that they will buy from my markets and make me some money. However someone shows up selling all sorts of resources, somewhat negating my investment in paying for a probe to go find that planet in the first place. In response I issue an import ban on certain items, in order to guarantee that I'm making profits from my local production efforts.

That situation is going to be rarer than the one JC was talking about in this latest interview which I agree with, since I also foresee smuggling involving trade blockades over planets during wars. In that case, you might find yourself netting quite a profit smuggling everything you can think of in and out of an active warzone.

On the topic of Narcotics... Those kinds of things might play into a skill tree for people who want to craft items with plants, chemicals, etc. Being able to make items that, while aren't necessary, give bonuses for a short period of time to players.

One can imagine being able to craft an implant that increases your skill training speed, similar to how implants in Eve Online work. They might be temporary items that only last for a few days, unless you have the skills to craft higher level or more efficient ones.

Or for items with negative effects, I'm thinking of a booster that gives you a bonus to a given stat, but while having its own negatives for the user, also has the potential to cause negative effects for the people around you. Something that you would want to apply to your character for the bonus, but the authorities on a station might have some obvious issues with and would want to keep you or anyone else from using or having those items onboard.

Something that negatively affects (not necessarily physically harms, but perhaps a stat loss?) people around them I think should be detectable by the people around them, or perhaps the mystery is part of the fun in the idea.

I'm just throwing out ideas here, none of them have to be taken too seriously.

Wood can be used as a renewable source of a carbon which can be turned into many things. I would even say that having different types of wood and other plants ready to harvest would make decorations much better even without turning this biomass into something chemically different.
Having to eat and drink is not that great part of most games that deal with it.  It might be fun to grow our own food but it becomes boring chore rather too quickly.

Modern Cities are built around the exploitation of Private Cars, It's why cities in the USA are unnecessarily large and population density is low. It makes a lot of problems, One being that people are forced into a lifestyle of owning cars to be able to live happily. Public transport also suffers etc.

In DU however, I wouldn't be surprised if cities are very dense, Because of the readily available use of space ships and easy access to energy exploitation, Most of the efforts of a city would be to design around the concept of Arcology Construction

A single large, monolithic Construction for the purpose of housing peoples in the many hundreds of millions, In essence, the building behaves sort of like a Central Processing chip, Where you have inputs of raw materials and goods that may be required and an Output of Export materials depending on the Skill set of the population and the careers players might choose to specialize in.

Arcology Construction is extremely Efficient in the amount of room taken, compared to the amount of commute time needed. Rather than needing to travel 1 and 1/2 hours to your work, just take an elevator down to the industrial complex, or IT department.

Or at least that's the philosophy an industrially minded person like me would chose to design cities.

don't play the drama queen, there is no hatred just because people point out that you should speak english in an international forum.
And while English might not be universal in the sense of most spoken language, it certainly is the universal language of science and the digital world, just look at the vast majority of coding languages and science papers.
Especially in small communities as dual universe its important if everyone can participate in discussions and read whats written (no one would care about subsections for specific languages if there are thousands of actice community members), so keep it in english.

Well, realistically speaking, your standards sound a bit OP and game-breaking, not "hard". It's an MMORPG, they won't let you be a rogue/mage/tank/healer. They did that thing in WoW, it was called a Druid Arena Season 1,2, 3 & 4. It was game-breaking and waaaay off balance. They did say mass will play a role in how many populsion thrusters you'll need, perhaps stealth will work on a similar basis, with your "cloaking field" duration being relevant to your overall mass., but negating you from using weapons in the process. Perhaps some people may find a way to make stealth bombers, who knows? Kudos to them. But having a 2 km ship, with stleath, armor and self-repair, it's way to op to be allowed by the game's physics and/or engineering logic.

If a planet is 100Km radius, and you could cover it all with only 1 or 2 sensor, it would be too easy and without challenge to cover.

Having to build an array of carefully placed sensor bring the challenge of organizing the data to be able to build a human readable overview.
This is the kind of challenge I like.

This is also an opportunity for emergent gameplay since hostiles cannot disrupt and impair your detection ability too easily, having to seek and destroy a grid of sensor is proving to be a greater challenge than only one. But securing such a grid can be proving very costly too.

The point is, that last gen MMOs didn't go for a continuous single-shard universe. There's the difference. DUAL goes for a very unexplored MMO landscape. EVE indedd did the first steps into that landscape, but DUAL really leads the expedition now. You can't have a server run simulated atmospheric weather effects on every planet players will be. It would shred the server hard. I would love them, but I gotta keep my head leveled on this one good sir. Emulated weather effects are the best compromise. They cost little, they add flavor in a planet's landscape and nobody is the wiser if ten drops of water were of the exact same particle effect This kind of witchcraft trickery is used for quite some time now, even in "simulators" even. Nobody notices that every rain drop is the same
