I never bother to look at IGN, I find it surprising that people still read that website.

Though I understand why they use IGN, I think. They have a lot of readers and I think NQ wants to attract non MMO gamers as much as MMO gamers.

Personally I would use massivelyop.com and mmorpg.com at this stage of development. Neither of them is perfect but nothing ever is.

Thing is, they got more chances getting a fair review on PC Gamer - given the nature of the game itself - than from a site like IGN. IGN marketed the game to people who won't paly the game - PS4 peasantry.

Now expect the flood of Console Peasants asking "da nu PS4 PRo MLG No Scope edition hz 3GB of RAM, ken I playz DU? Bringz DU on Consolez".

It's unavoidable.

Like it or not, IGN is one of the most visited sites on the planet:

https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/ign.com

It would be foolish to drop them as a PR outlet considering the reach they have across so many platforms.

The answer isn't to abandon IGN, it's to work out the problems with IGN so that they stop comparing it to No Man's Sky every time they write an article about Dual Universe.

As much interest as there has been shown

I still beleave that the current direction is totally wrong.
They are trying to create an MMO concept were we are given the freedom to shape a social society, well we know were that will take us, it can only mean that we end up doing what we do worst already, what we are all trying to escape from. If I want to truly relax and enjoy an evening exploring new worlds, I would want to think that in the future that this might represent, that we have gone well beyond the need of comparing status and have by then understood the need and value of unity.

I would have created a modern futuristic realm, were players get to contribute with collective spirits to one goal.
There would be no need for fighting each other, as there would be enough space for everyone. You can still have the need to secure materials and
maybe create a tension due to enviromental challenges, yet PVP, no not again, can we not move on from that demeaning human baseline!?

The planet surface

.... shows absolutly no imagination at all, and is entirely based on an earth with only fir trees!? If they have not shown any diversity at all in the showcase planet,
what insentive is there to explore at all? Knowbody wants to fly to another planet and just find the same cone trees with green on them, only slightly larger! Look at No Mans Sky. also procedual with the same HUGE problem, no diversity, after three planets, you still see the same plants yet again. I know that diversity is their goal, yet I see no evidence of anything in that order. I know it is early days, yet visuals for me are everything. I would simply walk all day on a planet, if it was reflecting the quality of having diversity.

I wonder too, what will they do about all the abandoned builds and giant statues of King Kong that people leave behind? That was a huge problem on Minecraft servers too?

I would like to see a more innovative society, were the need for politics and greed is a forgotten human weekness.

You could still have skills and abilities, yet for other things. I want a future space experience of what we can all
hope will be our destiny, of finding a kind of peace that is not available in our lifetime here. Were there is never any doubt about our goals and our unity and people
like Trump are cured at birth ha ha,,, sorry!

We can have no battles, or we can choose to have battles. I rather we members of organisations decide how to move forward.

Each Org and choose their own path, and each citizen can choose their own path. I see nothing wrong with allowing the option of PVP, and at the same time, allow a truce that will not have PVP.

We as humans will always have the urge to battle, and to prosper. There will never be a utopia.

Ah I think you missed the memo of different biomes and the devdiary which showcase a huge variety already (moderate, desert, ice) - and they want to expand on that.

Yeah. Cause it's fun for everyone to just build, enjoy the view or run an empire where the most exciting stuff that ever happens is that a miner died because he drowned in lava. Congratulations, you just killed an exciting game for everyone.

Thing is, most people want excitement when they flee their (boring?) lives. They want to hunt, feel the thrill of a war and be amazed by huge space battles.

Not everyone ofc, but there will be a place for everything and every playstyle.

If DU would only be "I flag myself now as PvP ready" as @Tolen Gazar suggested, then DU loses all this great gameplay many of us are here. And I would immediately ask for a refund, because that's not the game I want. I want something which is great for EVERYONE and not only to SOME.

I love the dubbed version more then that original. Totally changes the entire feel of the video and its amazing.

The trailer itself I think is also awesome! I did not read through the twitter comments but frankly it is what I expect. Without more demos being available, streamers showcasing, etc... there is very little for the community to go on other then speculation. It doesn't help that the current testers are all under NDA and unable to comment based on the current state of the game. Not to mention drawing the connections between NMS is frankly a terrible idea. My hope is that between now and release we will have it opened up for the community to really judge for themselves. Personally I prefer watching streamers to get a feel for if a game is something I am interested in or not.

When we get PvP, I'm coming after you first. JK.

Really? You are complaining about trees in pre-alpha?

Hey, some other game did several iterations over helmet designs etc. before they even had the basic physics and networking down :)

I really like that NQ is approaching game development from a more sensible angle.

This hypothetical game sounds incredibly boring and totally unsustainable for a long-term MMO. I don't think many people would be here at all if this was the vision that NQ had in mind, but luckily they've said from the beginning that one of the main driving forces behind the game is the political and socio-economic conflicts that will arise between groups of players.

I hate to say it, but DU is definitely not going to be your type of game if that's what you're looking for.

I agree. Conflict is what makes the game fun and interesting. What makes it work for escapism is that the conflict is not "real", in the sense that you don't die in real life if you die in the game. Since your real life is isolated from the consequences, you can relax and enjoy the challenge.

Thing is, they won't. They want those sweet sweet comments on their site by "cyber-wolves" wyho will comment "looks like a piece of shit, 0/10, scam, detected" and then generate even MORE commetns and revenue by the DUAL Unvierse Communtiy's own "vigilant defenders" who will gloriously charge and copy paste their usualy manifest of "this game has nothign to do with No Man's Sky, their only commno thing is space  theme" or "Omg, Fake News" or "anything else"./

They won't stop comparing it to NMS, cause they know it more than anyone, Crowdfunding = Massive Buyer's Remorse until the game launches = massive ego on the public that their article / video is released with the intent to trigger.

NQ is shooting themselves on the foot by giving exclusives to IGN. It's a deal with the devil - and those deals never favour anyone but the devil.

If anything PC Gamer Magazine would be the most neutral, cause unlike IGN, they would talk about the game's tech - and PC Gamer is the target audience for DU. Let's be honest, PS4 / XBOX peasantry won't see DU within the next 10 years if ever, so NQ might as well just advertise where it matters.

@majorbrighton

Your dream game idea sounds like Landmark.

Landmark's dead, it had heart complications. Later we found out PvP was nowhere to be found. Who knew such a thing keeps a game alive, amirite?

Also, there is no peace in the universe, there will never be - only the dead know the end of war. You can't have player cultures and societies without some good old cyber-xenophobia or "we are better, they are worse".

I personally don't try to escape from what I always done - which is take risks. Some pay, some don't. Sure, that may sound like gambling, but only morons take a bet when the odds are stacked against them. I plan on doing the same, just not morally hindered when it comes to DU. Hey, doesn't might if the fight was unfair, winning is winning, amirite?

If you want to have a society of socialism and such, you have the power to make that in DU. Just as we have the right to say "Greed is Good". Hey, if your model appeals to more people, you will get to be the dominant society in the game, and proving your theory "that's the future we want".

See, people like you remind me how wise the Witcher as a series of novels is - and games of course.

Like training alone with a sword reinforces your flaws with it, likewise, playing Singleplayer sandbox games reinforces your flaws as a human being. PvP makes all of us better human beings, letting off steam is good for one's mental state, playing games like Subnautica does not offer you anything new.

And here's a small insight I had from EVE - the opposite of what you want as a game : the ones who claim "I don't want to grief people" compose the vanguard of lynchmobs.

PVP is what drives the economy. With out it there would not be losses. With out losses there would not be need to make something new. What would happen then? The economy would fail and then you have got a boring mmo with free stuff and absolute no difficulty and so no reward on acomplishing something again boring. So your type of mmo would not be possible. I know this is old but here are my 2 minutes. The end.
