We did say we would be reaching out to some organisations, no?

Well, we did and are currently doing so. In celebration of successful negotiations with the Chuckling Casket, I decided to release this piece of graphic art.

So, how do you seal a swashbuckling deal with a Chuckling Casket? The answer is simple to the savvy:

I think the community will just handle it themselves.
Since NQ is active in "our" subreddit, news/features/announcements will spread from there, making the other subreddit superfluous when people realize where all the news come from.
Right now it's more of a seperation, but it will resolve soon imho.

Whatever this guy is or wants to be doesn't matter really when people realize he's not that involved with the community

    Here's the run down...

The puppet excuse is being used to not allow any other moderators help with the moderation of the subreddit, it is said that NQ should not apoint any moderators to the subreddit because it's a community ran subreddit... Which is true...

But when that excuse is being used to not put someone that is "actually" active in with the community, then that excuse doesn't help the case at all... Specially when the mod of the Reddit has had no previous interaction with the DU community here in the forums, socal medias and/or the community page...

We've tried, several of us, including myself, to come to an agreement -we are willing to lock the 2nd subreddit if me or another or active community member is given full permission over the Reddit - with mod in order to merge but the conversations have been deleted and have been met with a non-definite answer. As well as several of us being banned from the subreddit and the discord the conversations have taken place in... He's only become active now -in the Reddit at least - in response to our conversations/requests. IMO, to shun us away with a "I am active, what are talking about" phrase.

Point being, we've tried to come to agreement but we've yet to actually agree or resolve anything... Thus pointing you guys to the actual subreddit NQ uses - for now -

At this point this is not natural selection, it's just causing the community to split up...

Phew... That's my explanation based on what I've personally have seen and gone through trying to resolve this :/

That's up to each player and organization or loose group however then.

My point being: "Don't complain about it the more crazy your own "gap filler story" becomes."

Your best or safest bet is to keep it rough. We can't really tell how the world may develop in roughly 500 years and especially in the face of doom. We know there's some large conflicts and problems that we will face in the next decades or century but ~500 is still a lot of time.

Until NQ provides more specifics, I'd keep it roughly as it is or rather dynamic. For example it should be fine to refer to existing countries or weave one's backstory around them, but I can also imagine coming up with fictional groups or up to moderate-scale events within - after all it's unlikely things would remain static for about 500 years, excluding technology advancements.

I honestly think this is a smaller problem, even for RPers. You (as character) were born in that time of departure anyway so you'd have to focus on that area if you wanted to refer to something - the ~500 years of history before that until this modern day would be tertiary - for me anyway.

The situations where filling this would become necessary should be slim on average. My point being that it won't be an everyday topic for RPers.

One way of implementing roads would be to make the amount of energy a hovercraft uses depend on the height it hovers at.  Hovering at ten meters would use more energy than hovering at a few centimeters.  It would be difficult to hover that low on rough terrain without colliding with the ground, so it would only be practical on flat surfaces.  This seems realistic and it does not require any special elements or materials.  Roads would just be long, flat voxel constructions.  Since they would save energy, there would be an economic incentive to build them on frequently traveled routes.

A train could work in such a fashion. Like an advanced version of the Minecraft ones, but basically as some sort of construct type fit to work on some kind of attached (rail) system.

It would be automated unless you want to hire train operators or have small "do it yourself trains" to get to various locations on rails or limited ways. Then again, even if automated completely via script, someone would be near or in it as it operates so I guess the point still stands.

It would be amusing to send back and forth "drones" between two areas, though. In the end, it depends on the distance where things stop operating when no player is around. Will it be within one KM? A few? Regional, planetary?

Now we got from roads to rails.

A road is still useful, even if the vehicle itself has no physical contact (or not a direct one anyway) with the ground, but is relatively near it - aka hovering.

It provides set traffic lanes and can separate vehicle traffic (ground based) from pedestrians, for example. It also adds that urban feel compared to just having, I guess, dirt between the buildings or 'dirt roads' basically. It can also provide structure or order in traffic if you apply lanes and directions.

Ships would be treated as helicopters in that sense, they just go straight from A to B etc.

While you can ignore roads for installations or small towns, I'm guessing the larger things become and the more people go to a place or through it, the more you benefit from some form of road or traffic system.

I'd bet large cities, if we ever get to see them in DU, will likely use roads as we know them, or some similar system to regulate ground based traffic a bit. As for trying to regulate air based traffic... I think that will likely be too tricky without any assistance from the game such as being able to designate traffic lanes and whatnot to keep airspace somewhat structured.

    Time will tell.

    This is quite simple.

Those who were alive pre-leaving would refer to themselves by the identifier they previously used. Terran, Martian, Belter, Titan.

Those who are born on Alioth, or are so "native" as to having lost all previous connection - Aliothan (or Aliothi) would be appropriate.

Arkers, Novarkers etc etc would not likely be used since most people were on them less than a day or two really, in terms of "awake" time - mentally, most would likely feel the Ark was a bit like 'a very short bus trip where you fall asleep and have a vivid dream before being waken before you are ready because we're at your stop.'

HOWEVER - there is little chance that the countries which exist now would exist then, and a range of new "countries" would exist in some places, and have been dissolved in most, replaced with single world governments, or corporate powers. It's why I call my character an Terran (where I live) Anzaki (my cultural/genetic stock), not an Australian, and he politically is an Aetherean (as opposed to an Etherean, Alpha etc).

A more salient question would be "what are the countries of the world when we leave", or "what does a UMF'er call themselves", or "what languages are still spoken (and thus - what cultures still exist).

So....who's gonna say what's good and bad? You? Who's gonna enforce it and punish players who don't follow that code? You? What would give you the right to do so?

Pathetic arguments imho. No one will make a general code for all players, many won't follow it (including me) and the most important point of it all: I definitely will play the game as I want to play it, not as you or some other random guy on the internet thinks it should be played.

Oh and btw: you CAN escape those situations in DU too, there will be memechanics for that (shields, timers, safe zones, ...)

I wouldn't assume the end of the world and a "toxic (and then) dying community" - you can't 'control' everyone nor press them into or through some unwritten code of conduct.

"Nature" itself will handle most things, or rather a complex system of action and reaction, cause and effect. With safe zones and whatnot there will already be relatively or very safe areas dotted around the galaxy or universe. In the end, a certain risk in not controlled or policed areas is part of it. My point is not everyone can be 'toxic' everywhere, thus I consider it to be fine.

In short my current recap would be: You have some points and perhaps some things should be looked at, but on the other hand there is no need to become that "The apocalypse is nigh!" guy with the sign on the street yet.

I don't really get why people always think it's the most important thing to have huge numbers. Numbers alone never make up a good org or a successful one. It's the people who make it good at certain tasks.
Even when you're talking about pvp/military/tactics huge numbers don't change that much because of several things:
    - people are stup....special. Half of the people online will not get the commands (fly there!) because they're rambling or not focused enough
    - many of them don't even have pvp experience and just can't handle all the information, commands and chaos thus making them slow and/or not effective
    - you'd need huge amounts of bandwidth to handle such numbers on teamspeak or any other server. Or you split all those people but then you need some to pass information to others which confuses many and they then can't fight effectively
    - Timezones and playtimes. Lots of people think that 1000 people is a huge number for a military for example, while the truth is: it's not. Considering playtimes and timezones you probably have 50-100 people online at any given time

Smaller orgs can be way more effective and fun to play in because you don't have to deal with bloated inside-politics, such orgs consist of friends with similar playtimes and no special snowflakes.

I need to quote the kitty here:
"Everyone always wants to play a leader or a soldier. No one wants to play support"

Well, the first step is that you expressed being sorry (whether 100% sincere or also out of pressure). Given that you explained how you did it and posted in the first place compared to just moving on with an alt (the irony it would be) and starting anew also seems to speak in your favor.

I don't exactly agree with some of your reasons as Star Citizen player myself. You partially have a point. The sheer size of some organizations there, numbering in the thousands or above ten thousand (1 or 2, few at best) is a marketing aspect in its own way. But it sounds a bit like no one would have a chance there due to the larger ones and I think that is not entirely fitting. Depending on your expectations, that is.

Don't always look up at them or you might forget where you are going to, like someone staring at the sky while walking forward in a crowded area... or the cliffs.

I joined SC mid 2015 where many organizations were already established. And I see many smaller, innovative (and new) organizations grow and build a foundation regardless of the big ones. In addition, not all want to join a massive organization. Chances are some of the giant ones also collapse due to infighting. In short, if you are innovative and bring some associates, you will (slowly) grow despite the many organizations existing there, small or large. And yes, there are even smaller banking groups you could help grow.

Consider this for the future and perhaps SC in general, this year will see some interesting additions with 3.0. But of course DU will also see some good progress this year.
