  1. Uploading meshes in an mmo with thousands of avatars may not be feasible for performance reasons. A lot can still be done with parameter-based avatar creation, I'd expect DU's to be pretty basic at first.
  2. I certainly hope so, maybe even some without a bright nebula and so much ambient night lighting ?
  3. All of alpha and beta plus 1 month per dac after release if you use them. It is like plex in Eve.
  4. Something like that wouldn't work, then orgs would just have their miners not officially join so they get the solo buff. More people can get more work done, that's just how it goes.
  5. They are for gifting only. A supporter always has future test access plus some after release.
  6. No it is PC only, and currently no plans on going to consoles.
  7. There is still an NDA until beta or a little before beta, maybe. Which should be around the middle of this year.
  8. Being on the forums and Discord is enough. Is there anything in particular you want to do?
  9. NQ might have beginner quests/jobs, but otherwise there is supposed to be a player job board. There will be safe zones where pvp is not possible, and the rest being open pvp with territory control and conquer gameplay

I don't know if NQ will do that, but I'm sure once NDA drops, players will make these kinds of videos.
  11. I agree, I backed SC also, and they are quite different with SC being a theme park and DU being a sandbox. Chris Roberts himself even publicly supported DU as well as Elite Dangerous. There are still unknowns on the details of how things like the market and pvp will work but the key word NQ likes to use is "emergent" which applies to everything from the market, to pvp, organizations, territory control. Outside of the safe zones, anything goes, and it's just up to NQ to balance the defense vs offense gameplay. It is long but I recommend listening to the most recent DU podcast on their youtube page, it has the most recent information, especially regarding pvp. And hopefully a part 2 will be out soon.
  12. I like the general idea of FTL drive and spatial data. Would also add that mass should play a factor so more mass costs more to FTL.
  13. I plan on starting out in DU this way, and I think this kind of play will actually be safer in DU than Eve, because it is more open, lots of surface area on the planets, and no chokepoints like Eve's stargates. The pvp players just create risk, like an enemy NPC would but less predictable. You might get ganked every so often but should be rare once you learn what precautions to take, and the rewards should be worth the occasional loss.
  14. Sounds like you have some common sense ?
  15. I wouldn't say it's dishonest, it does say in the FAQ on the pledge page that it will be subscription after release.
  16. No it's not that kind of game. No NPC combatants planned for now. There's no real end game in a sandbox, you just keep building and exploring and fighting and rebuilding and expanding.
  17. You can also highlight part of a post and a "Quote selection" button will appear.
  18. Physics like that would require too many resources for an MMO. Even the hardware requirements for that single player game in the video are rather high. So it couldn't scale to a single shard game world.
  19. Not sure what you mean here but once you have access that includes all future alpha and beta stages.
  20. Eve has some interesting data about it's economy: https://www.eveonline.com/article/pxf0wt/monthly-economic-report-august-2019 I don't think there is such a simple solution, but as long as it can be made somewhat stable it should be fine. I would think fewer faucets would be easier to control.
  21. Joining an org is a good way to get help learning the ropes. Also get authorized on the DU discord server and you can collaborate with the rest of the Lua code monkeys. ?
  22. I would like it if animations and things were added to make it more believable, like show a stream of nanobots or something leaving and returning when mining or deploying materials, and a visible jetpack.
  23. Immersion doesn't equal realism though. DU is a sci fi fantasy game, so realism isn't a priority. You have to accept the nanotech "magic" explained in the lore, like in any other mmorpg.
  24. I think it will be pretty basic, we'll have the complete safe zones, and everything else open. Anyone is a potential threat. As long as new players understand this, they can act accordingly. We just need the option to tag individuals and orgs as friend or foe or default neutral. Security status doesn't work without infallible npc police and security zones. In total unsecure area you need to be able to aggro first to defend, otherwise the attacker can just bide their time knowing that if you attack first you get the security status hit. And a reputation system mechanic would be very abusable. A community/word-of-mouth reputation could be more reliable anyways since you'll know who is giving the reputation and can decide if you trust them.
