It has become apparent soon we will be able to battle each other in Dual Universe. Our weapons are being forged as we speak, and usher in a new era. This era is filled with mysteries and woes the likes of which DU has never seen. However in the dark mist of the unknown has come a light. The light of the All Father, and his vision to our Master Architect over what is to come. The light shows us what we are to do. When the first days dawn on Alpha 3, the Third age of DU, New Genesis will position itself near the Space that is contested. From there, we will launch our first crusade.

    The First Crusade

This crusade will aim to cleanse the conflicted lands of its dreadful blight... and burn away the non-believers like the cancer that they are. In a vision our Lord has sent to us a sign... to claim the Lands of War as our own. In it we will place a Shrine to his Majesty and we will endeavor to protect it daily... If it falls down we will build it again... if we are defeated like a great Phoenix we will rise from the ashes. The Holy Chosen of the All Father will know NOT the pain of defeat or fatigue of failure. We are charged in keeping his Holy Land Pure, and protected from the filth of the non-believer to which we shall not Fail.

Sharpen your swords Brothers... load your rifles... and warm the engines of our behemoths of war. The opening salvo of the First Crusade are upon us, and Non shall survive our Purge!

Why do you as an org object to a game mechanic which was known to come at the time you backed the game? I am genuinely asking this question as I do not understand why you choose to be here when you seem to not like a component of the game with a vengeance and go out of your way to let everyone know consistently.

Do you also eat at a restaurant advertising food you do not like and then complain you are forced to eat food you do not like?

    Hi everyone,

It seems the DevBlog was not clear enough on some points.
We have said it many times before, and we'll continue to say it again:
While many players wants to see Dual Universe with a dominant gameplay aspect, it's important to understand that it's NOT the case.

Building gameplay is as important as Combat gameplay. Not more, not less. Balancing both won't be easy and we are aware of it. No, Building is not the major feature of Dual Universe. If the Building aspect has been made first, it's only because, it was making total sense to start the development with this part: we are pretty much in R&D field regarding the Voxel technology. It was an essential piece of tech to build the base of the game: Voxels were necessary to create editable planets in the first place. Then the logical next step was to develop tools to give players to manipulate voxels. That wouldn't make sense to develop Combat gameplay before the two previous steps because, there wouldn't even something to destroy, or even an environment where the combat could happen.

The order in which the features are developed are NOT by order of importance.
It's just a matter of logical game development roadmap.

We have no plan to make Dual Universe a total free for all PvP game, just as we won't make it a whole game universe safe, just because some players want to explore it completely without taking any risk. While we don't plan to make our game some kind of "EVE Online 2.0", we don't want either to make a "No Man's Sky 2.0". We understand this may not appeal to everyone taste, and we totally understand that. However, if there is something that is very unlikely to change, it's the fact that there's no intention to catter to only one specific category of players.

A final word about the griefing and the mindset of the community. Our point of view is that griefing mainly proliferates when it's an easy way to get rewards with little effort, not necessarily because many people really wants to play that way. Of course, there are people who like to grief just for the enjoyment of annoying other players but we are convinced they're not a majority. If game mechanics are designed in such a way that griefing doesn't give easy rewards, then griefing will be naturally limited.

Why not simply remove the possibility of griefing, then?

Yes, it would be clearly easier and quicker to remove the ability to grief other players, but while we have no intention to encourage griefing, removing it totally would go against the very definition of the sandbox concept: players are free to interact in the way they want. If we remove any kind of interaction, then we are not in a Sandbox MMORPG anymore: we would be in a Theme Park one. And that is not Novaquark's vision. We want a game universe where bad behavior is discouraged by game mechanics and heavy in consequences if a player still choose to do so, than arbitrarily forbid the said behavior. We want players to be free but also to live with the consequences of their choices. That's what Sandbox mean to us at Novaquark.

Like last year, we are organizing a MeetUp in Cologne (Germany) during the event of the Gamescom.
It will be an opportunity to meet JC and several members of the Novaquark team to discuss about Dual Universe!
Please indicate which evening you will be available

The poll will close next Tuesday, June 11th, as we have to book the restaurant quickly.

(More info about the event coming soon )

gravetender reacted to Caesares in What do people think of the current economic system?
I understand the current system that is proposed would be setup and run by the game, not by a free market. Although I realize this is normal, and all games have some way of adding money into the game through non player activities (missions, etc.), I was wondering if anyone thought that a free market system, based overwhelmingly on economic decisions of the citizens not NPCs, would be a better idea than a centralized system which could favor certain businesses over others.

I've been making some animated & neon signs for the Orgs I'm part of and for friend's ships. Because they are GIFs, they can be displayed on ingame screens/signs. I figured I'd share some and see if anyone want's a free animated neon GIF for their org or ship. Either message me or post your existing logo or graphics here and I'll see what I can do. It helps me pass the time when I'm not playing taxi driver for my kids or being yelled at by my wife.

I backed this back in 2016 and i'm interested in where this is going.
Also I want to check out the NDA stuff on discord so if a mod could approve me that would be neat.
(NVM I found the info I wanted Late 2020) Does anybody know exactly when it's going to be released to the general public?

Err ya nothing moar to add so enjoy tha reading ^^.
    who am I?
I'm gravetender xD... In all seriousness, I'm a programmer, student in college, student council president, college administrator, etc etc. I'm both an introvert and an extrovert depending on the discussed topic xD I'm a curious person by nature. I like to debate and think everything and anything (to a certain extent). I also put a lot of energy on planning/strategizing. I speak French, English and Spanish. I say hallo from eastern Canada ^v^
why/how did I end up in here?
I'm an 1600+ hours Space Engineers player xD I mainly joined DU for the fantastic potential of this game. The power and politics from EVE mixed with the sandbox creative environment of Space Engineers. I've been watching this game develop since 2016, "studied" this community a lot, read (forums & discords), watched, joined chats with The SpartanCast and finally made my mind and joined in just recently ^v^
    me goals?
The thought of the simulated economy to this scale makes me shiver with joy. The inflation of the currency, the money sinks, the stability of the currency, the investments, the economic warfare and the influence of the economy over the flow of events. I'm hyped for that x3. There is also the main topic of corporations and all, which also make me happy to see, but I'm still waiting for further development before starting anything x3 (mainly for the pvp update, since [sadly] wars can be very beneficial to some ;3)

That pretty much sums up all I'm willing to share ^v^
See you in November for the Alpha~

    Regarding drama

Beware potential confirmation bias though. Frankly, I don't get some saying the forum is full of drama (implied or literally), as I hardly see much of it.

Now just because I don't see or perceive some things as such doesn't mean there is nothing going on, but I so far think some seem to blow things way out of proportions. Exaggerating doesn't help players or a community however.

So my little PSA is: maybe it's not as bad as some people think it is.

And I think the forum or community can survive an occasional joke or sh*t post or some organization taking a jab at another. Whatever makes it past a certain threshold, moderation can deal with.

Last but not least, there is usually also always at least two sides to (public) "drama". While you cannot always influence the other side, what you can influence is how you deal with it or specifically, how you react and respond. Often you can de-escalate or escalate further.

    Regarding the group

Interesting idea. However, I see a potential manual work aspect where automation might be better. Orgs have go through an application and you have to manage it. Now, not counting the featured org status, for all players it might be more beneficial to have DU integrate categories into the organization hub at the community section where all orgs are listed. Think of like how Star Citizen does it with. Pre-defined categories and tags so as you create your org, you can already pick a category yourself.

No offense to your idea but for convenience features an integration into existing systems is always more preferable from a community POV over having to go through private entities and manual work to keep things updated.

But this mostly depends on whether the devs add this or not. If so, you might have to adapt your idea a bit.
