  1. Ship suddenly starts veering to starboard at Max Yaw Rate. Cannot turn left at ALL.  ship with 2kT of cargo cargo is now starting to point at right angles to the motion vector, depriving primary lift surfaces of forward velocity.

ship starts to fall unrecoverably. Now with element and cargo destruction to look forward to.

Luckily I have Alt-F4 to put a stop to those coding shenanigans!  Oh wait....

There I was flying at 2000+ and doing 250+, went to check map, after closing map,  now was at 300 height and falling rate of  200+ no response from controls till just before crash.

Is this old or new related ? I would prefer to keep same traveling height and speed with map open, it is my responsibility went looking away when flying.

Alt-F4 still works for the time being. It is your friend.

yeah. If you open the map, your ship continues without control. That’s what happens when your game has a 1990’s focus-stealing, modal interface rather than a modular, windowed one.

  3. In other words. Let’s come back to this when JCB actually provides some (semi)concrete information.

if this were a request for input then sure, we could make a 100 page thread, but as it is, it will just turn into “YATC Thread” where we expound upon theories and propose “solutions” (often preceded by the word “just”) after a couple of minutes’ thought.

  4. @blazemonger,

Blaze, I don’t see how they can allow prior existing factories to continue on in cheat mode while expecting new creations to behave the new way.

that would forever create a “grandfathering” disconnect between them and create two sets of disparate logic to maintain here on out.

every change would have to be then tested not once but twice against the legacy stuff, too.

as a former dev, that’s nightmare fuel.

Japanese society stereotype about games in a nutshell? The cringe is real. :D No offense but It's like I'm reading a quote from some anime. What you are saying holds true in some rare cases but most of the time its just a game and you shouldn't take it seriously.

By your logic call of duty players would be murderous warmongers that want to kill people IRL.

Not sure where you’re pulling Japanese stereotypes from.. (I lie... I am sure where). But seriously, Japanese Anime is generally complete shite (apart from a few decent outings by Ghibli)

You need to stop watching it; it will rot your soul.

After that attempted diss, you then go on to say it holds true in rare cases. Lol.

And those are exactly the cases that can ruin it for the rest of us. Only takes one idiot in a group of 100 to shit in the punch bowl.

Also, I never take games seriously, that’s why I don’t play those campaign centric mmos. Instead I have an IRL business to manage.

Call of duty is specifically about shooting each other. It’s not just PvP centric, it’s entirely PVP.
So that was possibly even worse reference than your anime one.

but besides those points, I agree with you.

  6. TIme and time again. You think NQ would be getting better at reading their audience and introducing new features by now.

but it seems not. Many of their features are like the least delicate implementations possible and are often minimum viable production level.

Thats the problem, i have seen in other MMO's what happens when large guilds/orgs control content and deny it for the rest of the community, and it is not a good thing.

As i said average player is not interested in orgs, politics , pvp to that extent , average player spends a bit of his time playing and wants to chill out , try new things , do bit of mining , build something, do bit of exploring maybe a quest or a mission.

In-game politics, large org projects are for diehards who spend 6+ hours a day playing, and those will have an obvious advantage , give them ability to control content and the vast majority of population wont be able to leave safe space.

Creators vision and customer expectations have to meet ,  or neither side will benefit. Creator wont have a project to work on and customers wont have a product to enjoy.

Agreed and reacted. This game will appeal to the creative builder types, no doubt about it... with the added lure of having others ogle your works.

    ps.does your name come

from Japanese? If so, it can have two meanings

    Sea Monk...

    or my personal favourite

    Pus Monk...

without the kanji, it’s hard to determine which one since we can’t hear the pronunciation. Lol.

Can I ask why you assume MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER means PVP?  Lore wise it makes ZERO sense - we just spent ~10,000 years to get to a new solar system and the first and most important thing we do is figure out how to kill each other?

Some of us hope for a better, peaceful, future...

    Oh you sweet soul, you!!!

It’s the internet. Some of the most toxic, twisted, sadistic people are more likely to expose that aspect of their personality online and in-game where the worst possible thing that could happen is that they get their accounts closed. The real world equivalent to account closure would be summary execution.

Given that most people with sociopathic tendencies evaluate the risk-reward scenario thoroughly before engaging, you end up with all the worst murder hobos, changers, griefers, and those challenged in the trouser department descending on these open ended games to do what they want to do IRL but don’t have the balls to.

    or not... who knows.

I will say it again There is NO WAY i would pay money to play this so-called beta! NQ if you want my money you are going to have to do better than this. You got me the first time by calling it a beta THAT wont happen again. If you are still around in a year Ill see you then......maybe!

Some people think this "doing better" will involve another wipe....

But what I want  to know is, how the heck is NQ going to do another reboot/reset/wipe with actual paying subscribers.... Will they reset the clock on those subscribers' clocks... so that if a subscriber has paid for half a year, they'll get six months playtime dated from the final wipe?

I also don't think I, who doesn't even have to pay a sub yet, would survive another wipe, TBH.

So I don't see how they can really fix things other than patching the patch patches and duck taping the mechanics and broken bits together.

Wrecks are not really new, they were ingame before and removed only a week after implementation due to poor planing and management. They where extremely unbalanced in terms of elements and their loot tables was also extremely generous to the point that one single wreck could potentially net you 10’s of millions. On top of that there where rumors that the locations for the top wrecks was leaked to a selected few, which cause only those selected few to gain an unfair advantage. One wreck that personally found by shear luck net me 85 million, and the few others 1 to 5 millions each.

With that said, the question is what are they really doing? Cause everything is basically a change of something that was already in with nothing new to the table since soft release....

The wrecks were community designed ships and the one that was worth nearly 100M was apparently made by someone in our group.. His massive ship had an AGG and 12 AG pulsars plus a whole bunch of gear that you could repair with scrap and take home. LOL.

was just mapping out (as probably many many before me) how a semi-large scale base should look like. And just for the ore production with 25 refiners linking each ore to each metal-works, Electronic-works etc, it would take a few hundred transfer units. that is ridiculous, a cheap refiner can have 10in and 10out links, it can transfer anything AND process the ore, but a more expensive TU has only 1 out? that looks to me like a design flaw.

TU's need to either be way cheaper (and smaller in size please) or get at least the standard 10 out that every other industry unit has.

A refiner can have 10 outs? Are you certain about that?

Why is this a thing? We shouldn't have to pick and choose which posts we want to react to in a given time period.

And also, why does this forum only offer one reaction option (like)? We need more than just Like. We need Thanks, Laughing, Sad, Embarrassed, and maybe some others too.

I wanted to like your post but alas all ten have been used. Sorry.

Dude you're your community is not special over the ENTIRE Dual Universe community. This forum is for the community of DU, or it would have "special people only"  tagged some where on it. Be courteous to your fellow DU members we're all trying to be heard.

You’re new around here... so you might want to take a rain check on the unbridled umbrage on display there... Physics on the other hand knows the game very well and more importantly knows how NQ goes about fixing bugs (or not... which is the problem).

So how about taking a bit of a chill pill and try to read a bit more closely before shooting from the hip?

  14. Yes. I have. It seems that sometimes there is a kind of build rectangle around the construct’s voxels that stretches out from the most protuberant voxel along the axis.

I had the same problem with a “train” track we built at the end of the alpha.

it was a 16m wide V shape track and the ship was supposed to sit in the V and move along the length. Only problem was that nothing could enter the V itself... It was as if there was an invisible layer of voxels covering the top of the V.

for some reason a week or so later, this no longer occurred and the 8km long track worked fine!

  15. Agreed. People are paying to play now. If they wiped skill points they would surely have to reimburse all those players considering they said they wouldn’t wipe again.

I have a love hate relationship with this game.

I love the freedom and creativity and even though the graphics aren’t the best, there are some gorgeous locations.

this so of course hampered by the need to “waste” mining resources on simple, literally Stone Age things like glass, wood and clay for bricks.

I (on the whole) love the physics and in atmosphere flight mechanics, though air resistance is a bit too simplistic.

And even the brown sky of Sanctuary can look beautiful at sunrise and sunset.

I honestly don’t know if I could handle another wipe. Unless it came with magic blueprints for every core.

If I can't maneuver tool the voxel board that Yeeted itself 10km away back to my base, then what do I do? Fix game breaking bugs before nerfing the tools we would use to compensate for those bugs.

The Alt-F4 was used to compensate for flaky mechanics. Fix your game before nerfing the tools we use to make this game bearable to play.

And nearly nobody travels at sublight speeds anymore, EVERYONE warps. So this nerfing of Alt-F4 only hurts those trying to not have to repair their ships over and over because of game-breaking bugs. And combined with the fact that elements will have a fixed repair amount, you are going to have people ragequitting in droves...

Agreed.  NQ’s arrogant (or just willfully optimistic) comments in their release notes always make me smile.. I’m working from memory here, but one of them was something along the lines of,   “fetch tool removed because it is no longer necessary since we fixed the bugs.”  Hahahaaahahhhahaha funny stuff.
