  1. yah.. pretty much more of everything please. More plants, more trees, more furniture, more gates and a bunch of rollable, breadbox doors in different sizes, for sure. Also, I want the ability for the avatar to crawl, Star Citizen style, so that I can open a small hatch and play in Jeffries Tubes.
  2. I occasionally played on 3 16:9 monitors for a 5.3 aspect ratio... it looked excellent, but even a 5900x and RTX3080 can't pump out the frames fast enough at 1080P except in space, so I end up just feeling queasy after 10-15 minutes and gave up. The button bar sat at the bottom of the central monitor and I don't remember noticing anything weird...
  3. This (sort of comment) is why we can't have nice things.
  4. I thought they fixed the bug with the out of range container linking. rantmode=on I don’t like using the term exploit because that is implicitly shifting the blame from the devs onto the players. They are bugs, plain and simple. Whether they are exploited by the players or not is beside the point, IMO. much like the word “issue” instead of problem. If software has a problem, people can have issues with it. But software, unless it’s very advanced AI doesn’t have issues, since it has no personality. It has problems. And bugs. And people can exploit those bugs or have issues with any problems it has. rantmode = off Sorry. This has nothing to do with any of the previous posts in this thread.
  5. Since the last patch, our train has started to fly bumpily over the track, I think that is due to low frame rates, too.
  6. Not a fan of Eve, but backed this game to the tune of over $300 regardless....
  7. truth! The number of times direction (I mean direction as in arrow, not manager) has changed in this game is occasionally worrying. yes. The damage is element only and based on mass and velocity and distance from touching point. and since voxels add to mass, they contribute to damage but not protect.
  8. It just surprises me that they seem to introduce as many problems as they fix each patch. And many of the problems were completely avoidable… by just not causing them in the first place.
  9. Been asking for elevator linking since time immemorial. T_T
  10. 3 alts per account? I know we have beta keys but was not aware we were going to be "gifted" with alts... When you say 3 Alts, do u mean 3 total or 3 Alts for a total of 4? I usually consider myself to have 1 main account and 4 alts which I log in to to apply their skills to various builds/industry.
  11. I can ONLY dock with the docking tool while standing on a static/planet... If I try to pilot the ship into dock, it invariably ends ends up in an eppy-fit or just sliding off... if it stays up there, it's invariably stranded while the host moves away, sometimes causing the host to take damage.
  12. NQ naïvely implemented geometric costs for tiles in a way that took me all of about 10 seconds to work around... The stupid thing is not that NQ were naïve but that it took them this long to close a glaring, and by that I mean flashlight to the face kind of glaring, loophole. The cynic in me is saying that they waited this long so that large orgs would be forced to consider forking out for extra ALTs to keep their orgs in their own hands rather than offloading massive tracts of land and cores to simple org members they can no longer control.
  13. I love RP, I played D&D as a kid and was a LARPER in the late 80s at uni, moving on to Battletech, Cyberpunk and political games such as Vampire the Masquerade, so I understand and appreciate the concept of RP very well. But I always make sure the distinction between RP and RL is clear... I usually say "my avatar was...." or "I was controlling the ship when it crashed and my avatar died." I like to keep the line between out here and in there clear... Now, if ever there were a forum where I could RP play my namesake avatar without my words being mistaken for my own opinions, I would be all over it. Most games have an RP forum section for "in game shenanigans...." or "introduce your character" or "recruitment for your org" or "in game events, announcements and declarations of war/peace" DU has literally only one forum to which players can post their game related posts. Moreover, while RP is likely part of the game, not everyone playing the game RPs or even likes the idea of RP. Basically this is another thing NQ haven't realised is that their players might actually want: A forum to post in game, in universe material and continue the game out...
  14. Nah, mate... there is this game which is a fun distraction from daily stress and then there are adults who post messages to this forum while still in character. Like guys who take their paintballing too seriously and dress up in combat gear when they go down the pub.
  15. Yeah, I understand where you’re coming from but that would require NQ to add another hidden attribute (volatility/explosivity) to each item which, given 400 odd elements, (I pulled that number from my arse, I have no idea how many elements this game has) would probably take them about 1200 days to complete and that’s before the single high-school, work-experience intern who is apparently responsible for all of NQ’s code this past year, is whipped into action to work on the logic. poor kid. ? also the fact that voxels don’t in any way protect the ship is just plain silly considering that collisions are a core mechanic in any space game, it’s surprising how little effort has been put into developing it. I know that comparing a game to real life is a bit pointless, but remember the concord that was destroyed leading to a no survivor crash? All that happened was that the concord's landing gear hit a piece of a debris from a previous plane that had apparently been damaged on landing.. The piece of debris punctured a tire and as the plane sped up, a part of the tire flicked up into the engine cowling, penetrating it and caused catastrophic and complete engine failure and conflagration and within a few seconds half of the plane was burning... The plane crashed seconds later, leading to the death of all 109 souls on board. Or what about the Columbia shuttle disaster? As the shuttle is taking off, a fragment of insulation towards the front of the main external tank breaks off and strikes the leading edge of one of the wings. The damage went unnoticed in ascent but caused the wing to disintegrate on return descent. I'm only saying this becuase chain reactions leading from minor, seemingly inconsequential damage (a popped tire on a vehicle that has a dozen tires, I peice of foam of all materials causing fatal damage can indeed happen. As I said, though, the damage system is broken.... but for different reasons. There's an expression we say in Japan, "If the wind blows, even barrel makers can profit." 風が吹けば桶屋が儲かる。 Which is kind of the Japanese version of the Butterfly Effect.
  16. All those peeps who kept saying June 16 was to be DU shutdown day. LOL. suddenly quiet.
  17. Every single voxel of that structure survived in tact, though. Not a scratch. Jeez. like I said. The damage system is broken. Well, if you want to go there, Amagasaki train incident. Train derails at 70kph: plows into a parking garage: complete destruction of first two carriages. 106 died in those carriages. No survivors at the front. The middle and rear half of the train sees another 500 injuries. Many life changing injuries. that was a solid metal train at just 70kph. It collided with a wall which was said to be made of 10-13cm of reinforced concrete. Nothing mechanical survived the impact. It took them a month to fully recover the front of the train: a month. and unlike this game, some of the damage was absorbed by the building. I should have known you’d wade in to this.
  18. Space travel at 30000kph? LOL. Like that's any different to space travelling at 1kph. Nice try though, eh? The titanic was built strong enough to withstand the 100kpa of water pressure at 10m+ below water but your ship can't even keep out 10cm of water. It is incapable of pressurising the hull, which most high altitude aircraft of today can and also your ship is so weak it burns up at 1500kph which modern jet can do without catching fire so no joy playing the "strength card" I'm afraid. ? "Only a single voxel" that's 25cm thick.... This is what happens if you hit a 25cm HOLLOW tube at just 50mph... not 60: That truck was pretty much totally annihilated.... Now, your construct might have been twice the length (40m?) but then it would also be eight times as much mass (at same density) and the pole would have ripped through the truck much, much further. Also, you said Market pillar... I have looked at the aftermath of the MP15 clusterfuck and I swear that they were at least 2 voxels thick, in some cases 1m thick, since Aphelia has infinite resources, no need to scrimp and scrape. But anyway, collisions were made this way to stop griefing... The slower moving item is immune to damage from faster moving items preventing people ramming space stations and completely annihilating them with an XS core travelling at 30,000kph. ALL damage is applied to the faster of the two parties and damage is proportional to weight and, I think, square of speed with a buffer of about 50kph... at least our medium core hover train that maintains a height of only 25cm never takes damage when it bumps a corner in the track at less than 50kph but at 100kph if it hits the side rail, it's toast. Voxels add to weight thus damage, but do nothing to protect the elements within, which is a shame... if contact damage was handled the same as PVP damage, things might be better... Yeah, it's broken... but collision damage calculations have been pretty constant... So basically, the griefers and potential griefers are why we can't have nice things.
  19. I only have 5 accounts. (well, 2 accounts and a total of 5 avatars) Him having 20 doesn’t make me feel bad at all... and difference between 1 and 5 and 5 and 20 is geometrically pretty simple. You can spend your time worrying what other people who are spending massive amounts of money are doing or you can concentrate on enjoying the game... Here's a thought experiment.. if you had 20 accounts, would you play the way he is playing, repeat logging in and out 20 times, taking 20 missions, loading them up, flying a behemoth that can carry 40kT (2kT per mission) out of the atmosphere into pvp space with only one crew on board or requiring 38Mℏ in warp cells.... reducing profit already to about 150M... Knowing that even if he is in the safe zone, any single XS core ship could just stop dead in midair in front of him and his entire ship and he are very, very expensive and time consuming TOAST? Would you? A ship that can transport 2kT of stuff is far less of a risk and geometrically cheaper than one that can haul 40kT in a useful amount of time... especially with the 4kph anti grav limit. I know for sure that I wouldn't even do that with my 5 accounts.
  20. It’s easy to severely underestimate one’s speed when flying in 3rd person. Especially if you’re flying a Lage construct. Things seem to glide by so slowly even at multiple hundred kph. 100kph is 60mph that would do some SERIOUS damage IRL. to put this into perspective Titanic’s top speed was just 40kph! imagine hitting solid rock at 2.5x the seed of the titanic. Admitted, the titanic was 2x the length that of an L core, but still…
  21. I’m all for third person camera elements placed on the outside of the ship that relay information inside. And As the elements are damaged, you lose 3rd person visibility externally. for example guns /radars could still come with cameras which could be used in lieu of free 3rd person camera. You could choose any such camera equipped system to be your external vantage point from a list of ship elements. Free 3rd person camera view should be for cinematic use only, recording fights and making trailers etc, it should lose all the cockpit/LUA access.
  22. I have no confidence that any of the remaining devs at NQ are able to navigate their own code any more. the snail pace of development and graphic improvements would suggest a dev/art team down to single digits. Landing is as unreliable as it was in the early alpha a year ago. Docking is an absolutely 1st tier key mechanic in what is basically a spaceship builder game. But there are glitches everywhere not just on planets. Space docking is a nightmare for different reasons where if you sit down on a space core anywhere within the build cube of another, larger ship, your ship is likely to be considered docked to he larger ship, even if it’s not touching. and the larger ship can fly off with your ship floating alongside. Terrific.
  23. What is it the youngsters say these days? Ah yes, “The cringe is real.”
