What content? That´s the question. There is just a giant sandbox with millions of players in it. There will be no "new content"

    @Warden and Merwyn:
Well I think they all got paid already or would you work for years without payment?
Renting a high end server costs 14,95$ per month. Can´t be that expensive.

Wow! So all FTP MMOs are made by volunteers?  (sarcasm)

I see your point. They all need to be paid for creating no further content. Just traveling around the world and presenting the game. Cool. ( this was a joke)

    Seriously:
I think the costs will be refinanced within the first 6 months after launch. Let´s say 1 year after lauch. And then? Either NQ will boot half of it´s staff (which is not unusual in the gaming industry) or they need thier programmers to create content. But nobody can say what "content" really is in Dual Universe. At that point a monthly fee is no longer bearable and they have to go FTP (with lootboxes or shops)

What is the monthly fee for? Just for saving the players progress?

Novaquark just has to keep the server(s) running.
They don´t have to create new content, they don´t have to create new maps or zones. There are no quests, no NPCs no PVE content.

Don´t get me wrong, I´m willing to pay a monthly fee but I would like to know what for as the community is generating all the content.

    Hi all,

I've been interested in DU for a long time now, and the one thing that bugs me about the game is the subscription system. I can see why NQ want to use it, but I have a suggestion I beg you to consider.
    1. Add a decently priced one time fee for full access to the game, no restrictions. (high enough to keep the cod kids out)
    2. KEEP a monthly subscription but add subscription only cosmetics etc, mabe even only let subscribers create Orgs?

    Cheers,

What makes this game stand out from other games that exist already?

The overall single detailed universe is being done by Star Citizen.  The space sandbox builder has been done by several other games already, such as Empyrion Galactic Survival and Space Engineers, as well as others.

To me, it seems the primary differences are as follows:

1.) Top notch graphics (better than EGS and SE, but maybe on par or a bit below star citizen).
2.) Single shard universe (again, not the first to do it, see Star Citizen, EVE, but first to do it in a highly rendered voxel world)
3.) Completely user driven content - this one seems to be the most unique of all of them (although perhaps there is a game out there that had this, like minecraft, not sure)

So it seems the main differences are not necessarily differences, but the fact that they are taking all these elements that other games have done and combining them into one game.  Is this a correct assessment?  What do you think makes the game stand out the most?

Edit: Also, let's discuss the pros and cons of combining all of these components into one game.  What tradeoffs are there compared to these other games that DU draws from?

I can really see what you are saying there.

But it's an MMO so for the MMO player it's extremely interesting. It's like how The Witcher was very exciting to RPG players but less interesting to an FPS player.

You raise some interesting thoughts. But concidering the success of the Kickstarter and the ongoing supporter packs it does seem there is a big desire for a game like DU.

BlorgonSlayer got a reaction from MookMcMook in Do you play EVE Online?
EGS has two main modes - single player and multiplayer.  The single player is obviously offline.  The multiplayer mode is online, with over 1500 servers to choose from.  Some have as few as 4 people on the server, and the largest ones have up to 200-300 people on the server.  Each server has their own rules and scenarios, based on how the server admin sets it up.  The admin can set up each planet however they want, create points of interest for players to interact with, and set rules for each planet, with some being all pvp based, and others with set pvp planets and other pve planets.  I honestly think I like this approach better than a single shard universe, because it allows users to not just drive content in terms of how the civilizations are built, but also in terms of how the planets themselves are designed, how populated with wildlife and resources they are, etc.  I don't see anything like this in DU a of yet.
It's true that the single shard has the advantage in terms of networking and density overall.  It's definitely true.  However, for the above mentioned reasons, I think the single shard has some trade offs as well.

Don't forget large scale PvP which only EvE provides at the moment.
Jokes aside, DU may launch before Star Citizen too.

the problem is even if you fill in the hole again with dirt it will be a smooth dark brown surface (if i interpret what i have seen in the demos correctly).
i am not asking to smooth out the holes or fill them up or ores to regenerate, but what i would like to see is for grass and trees to regrow (or alternatively the ability to "build" plantlife ourselves)

Would be funny to have a eco-terrorist player faction that goes around attacking people who strip mine or don't restore the planet to relative beauty after use

I hope this is the right place for this and that it hasnt been discussed in detail before...

it seems to be fixed that planets and ressources in general will not regenerate, so i would like to hear opinions and maybe feedback from the developers on the following problems i see:

    1. the pretty looking environment  will very soon look very ugly once everybody starts digging everywhere (especially for players who join in later stages). i hope that plants and grass at least will regenerate....

    2. if i understand it correctly ressources are limited and fuel for example will be consumed by aircraft, so this would mean that there will come a point where the fuel on a planet will be depleted and new players will have no way to leave the planet (or do anything besides the absolute basics. i  imagine this would greatle decourage new players)

    3. in an interview i heard that caves and the likes will not collapse even if they are physically unstable. So as i miner will i be able to cave out the whole planet (in theory) ?
and to continue this question will the territory be a horizontal restriction or will it be spherical? so would it include a no fly zone (for what range), what happens if you dig underground and you leave the territory zone on the surface? what happens if i dig into a restricted territory from the outside? (in my opinion a spherical or hexagonal-cube would be the most logical solution....)

I am definitely all for some wildlife on some planets just to help make them feel real.  Just some small stuff.  Nothing too fancy.

But I would rather they stay away from the whole No Mans Sky animal discovery game.  The problem that seems to happen is that once discovering all the creatures or plants or whatever on a planet becomes a game or an achievement then it has to be balanced.

Once the balancing starts it always seems to end badly.  Apparently most people don't want to spend more then an hour tops discovering all the diverse life on a planet.  So they have to cram so many critters per square foot that it makes the planets feel more like petting zoos.

Anyway I guess saying "don't do it like No Mans Sky" kind of goes without saying these days lol

BlorgonSlayer got a reaction from Ben Fargo in Creatures
I'll just add a voice of support for having animals *at some point in development*.  I wouldn't mind if they weren't added till late beta, but I do think that the game would not be complete without at least some critters running around, some of which are slightly dangerous.  It would be fine if it turned out that we were the only highly intelligent humanoids in the universe, and all other creatures are just basically wild animals, so as to not get involved with any sort of npc space fighting AI, but that would be cool if you did decide to add it at a very later stage.

Overall though, I don't think the universe should be riddled with hostiles.  Think of real life.  You go for a long hike in the wilderness, and you may or may not encounter any wildlife at all.  Maybe a squirrel or bird or other small critter.  If you're really unlucky, you might run into a bear or mountain lion, and that creature may decide that you look tasty.  So overall, I think that if creatures are added, they should be hard to come by in most cases, and that you really need to hunt them down if you want to have a wild caught dinner.

Then again, this could also really depend on the habitat you're in.  More tropical biomes have a lot more diversity and density of wildlife than say an arctic biome.  So I think if it is implemented, the frequency of animal sightings should vary by biome.

Again, overall, I understand that this adds a layer of extreme complexity that is not really a priority at this time for the devs, so don't worry about it right now.  I would love to see it eventually though.

BlorgonSlayer got a reaction from Ben Fargo in How hard (or easy) will it be to earn DAC?
Ok, this all makes a lot more sense now.  Those with RL money can use DAC to get ahead in the game, while basically subsidizing the ability of those without RL money to keep playing, as long as they work for it in game.  I like it actually.  Sounds good.

I do hope they are not lootable, considering it is something that is directly tied to RL money.  They should be some kind of digital item that is kept in extreme security, and only transferable voluntarily.  At least that's my opinion of it anyway.
