Tonight, and throughout tomorrow (night as well) the Perseid meteor shower will be kicking off, and it's supposed to be quite spectacular with the shower to reach 100 - 200 meteors per hour. Ideally, you'll want to watch it take place between 12 AM and 2 AM (Early morning).

While we can't play DU now, try to find sometime to witness this event, as this doesn't occur very often.

EDIT: I'll be taking some photos, but I may not be able to get anything good. Depending on how bad the light pollution will be where I am going. If anyone watches it tonight and has clear skies, take some photos and post them here!

$60?  thats how much a good single player game goes for, that if you halfheartedly play, will beat, and be done playing in 2 months or less.  This game is not a single player game, or one that the vast majority of the players will be done with after 2 months.  So for a one time fee idea, I would want you to pay, $540.....
Thats $15 a month for 3 years.  No i don't need to break it down as a math problem either.

I would love to know, what computer you are going to play this game on, living on a limited budget.  If you really had a limited budget, you would have spent computer money on food, and other necessities of life.  please don't portray yourself as something you are not.  This game IF $15 a month, is the same as giving up going out to eat once or twice a month, or a couple of trips to a starbucks.  Or giving up Coke, and switching to drinking water.

I for one, am glad its going to be Pay to play, and will send in that cash every month if this game is as good as it looks.  Not only that but if my kids want to play it, I will give them their own accounts as well.  AND yes I live by a very strict budget, and am willing to make a SMALL sacrifice for a great game that I love to play.  It will not hurt the company to lose people to cheap to pay, because I bet you are here on launch day like the rest of us.

You guys are getting too bogged down in real science here. This is a game. It doesn't have to satisfy real science, otherwise, this game would take place on Earth with current 2016 technologies. The point here is that it's fun and entertaining, not accurate.

Zero point energy may in reality be unfeasible, but I would want that in the game anyway. Cold fusion might be unfeasible, but we can have that too. Recall from the short story that we may be using magic maple syrup to power our ships.

I'd like it if when you crafted an Element you got to choose from a color wheel.  But then later if you wanted to change the color there was another recipe for paint that you would have to complete to be able to recolor the Element.

It's always good to have some kind of cost so people don't just change the color every five minutes.

Although some kind of adaptive skin on a ship that could change color at will like a chameleon would be pretty cool too.  But i guess that's more in the realm of cloaking technology then paint.

I would love to see the ships UI (the customization screens). I love glowing HUD's in games  but I would love more if they had a function in games, and I would lose my mind if we have functional glowing HUD's that we can customize.

I love the ship displays in star citizen, but being able to customize those would bring it up another level.

I'm actually curious right now whether the point of control is at the origin or the destination.  In other words, if I have permission to use this jumpgate can I jump to any gate regardless of what the owner wants, or do I have to have permission from the destination end?  This is an important consideration, because if I can't controll who comes through my gate I will have to put up giant insta-kill cannons around my gate in a new system.

IMHO I honestly think the combat is not going to happen yet, they are probably still just focusing on getting the elements in there, look at the video they released with him going to the space station, everything you would need to show combat, was placeholders for the real thing.  so hopefully showing more on building,. and showing those are working customization screens would be cool.  Don't get me wrong I would love to see some combat footage, i just think its a bit to early for them to have it in yet.

The problem with this pact, is the same problem we have with our Geneva Convention, rules of war.  there are always loopholes, and countries that will break the rules.  Take the Vietnam war, and the rules on treating POW's  who enforced those rules??? no one!  so you would have the same problem here if a very powerful Organization breaks this rule, a lot of smaller ones not at war with them, will not want to risk their assets to help punish them.

I think its a great idea, but I don't think it will work.

Ha... so funny... some people are funny, I give them that.

“Those who wish to fight must first count the cost”

Laws of Physics do not change. Technology does though. And if they managed in DUAL's future to warp space-time, I don't see how shielding electronics would be much of an issue.

Yes, as a community grows, moderation is more and more needed. And yes, it's going to be taken care of:
    - A new CM will join the Novaquark team very soon.
    - We're considering assembling a moderation team.

For now, I will close this topic, to prevent more unnecessary flaming between members.

I personally like the player built jump gate idea very much.  As has been said, they will be tremendously expensive and certainly not a thing a small group would build, unless they were very successful at something else and paid someone to do it.  Remember, there will be vast amounts of resources in the game and it will all need to go somewhere or the inflation will devalue and destroy the game.  Having to constantly send expensive pieces of hardware off into the void for weeks to months at a time to expand will be a great driver for the economy and once these structures are built I'm sure they will make for great target practice by the rivals of the builders.  So expect it to take a few tries to get anything going, simply because those who build the first jump gate will look strong and the strong are challenged.  This will be an event akin to the first Titan in EVE, the pinnacle of a vast undertaking and the biggest target in the system.

GalloInfligo reacted to Sofloan in programing, a large opening.
    Hello  ,
I'd like to be able to create, design and program things or why not trade it with the comunity to get rich !
Those would be some kind of products, programed systems, like automatic defense of a fort, city, base.
Or even admin acces, Doors control, restrictions, and maybe ability to HACK   terminals that were programmed by other players in order to bypass security, to control the program and reverse the situation.

By designing I also mean the UI shape would be something you could create or trade,
So each faction could own its own "personality".
And maybe something more than the UI, dunno lets talk about that  !

You would be able to save the program on hard drives, to use it from a "smartphone from the future", a control terminal, a spaceship(anysize).

Something like that would require a simple langage such as LUA, you'll have to learn sure but this feature could be the opening for an infinite way to scultp the world, and make this place living with tons of interactions, and new paths.
Its also a big opening for trading(selling programs, AI), recruiting(a member that knows how to program),  wars/battles: victory by hacking devices (etc...)

You would choose whatever you want to create to defend yourself, upgrade the base/ship (etc...).

I hope that this idea wasn't already set
    Thanks !

    EDIT:

I went further into my explanations, to let you exactly know what I meant:

I was thinking about something more "complex", at least free to do anything.
Like a turret protocol, choose when, how, why it should fire.
And something I would looove to be able to do is assembling my system to make my turret: servo motors, power source, weapon technology used, sensors, and hull but with voxels not the furnitures(meshes) they give.

Then you'll have to script the turret to make it aim right by contoling each servo motors, setup the axis, program it so you can control it with the keys you binded in the program, or even program an AI that aim everything the sensors detect as 'hostile".

Thats where the hacking is interesting, he change the aim protocol from hostile to allies, tirn those against the creator maybe ^^
