I chuckled a bit at "getting nerdy breeding dinos" part. I played ARK a bit, but never really got into it. Ironically due to Dinos, I think. In loose comparison, I had more fun playing Conan Exiles. The games might not be comparable much in greater detail, but survival sandbox stuff is survial sandbox stuff, eh?
 
As you already assume(d), I think there will be lots of opportunities to "get nerdy" in DU, maybe not solely regarding ships.

Sadly -well, not necessarily sadly but- because of no AI and LUA scripting limitations, AI droids to man weapons or act on behalf of real players, is not something NQ wants to focus on. 
 
One of DU's core aspect is player interaction and player-driven. 
 
This means that if you have a giant capital ship with 100 guns, you will need 100 players to man each one of them. Admirals with strong leadership will thrive in that environment 
 
And personally, I think this is great, since it gives players value when it comes to manning ships. That little recruit or cadet is not so useless after all, eh?!

A true sandbox mmo at its core.

This is what make Dual Universe different for me above all other games. Freedom to Explore, Freedom to Conquer, Freedom to Build cities, nations, empires, alliances, coalitions, corporations. Freedom to be whatever you want to be.

As other's have pointed out, yes, they will include Alpha 1 and 2. While it may not have been the best way to answer the question, they are correct.

However, after many internal discussions, we have decided to proceed differently, for the reasons explained here. If you have only just discovered the project and are ready to dive into the many worlds of Dual Universe, these Supporter Packs will give you the opportunity to help back its ongoing development and redeem exclusive items, too! Not only that, but by pledging the Patron Pack, it will allow you to take part in the live testing during Pre-Alpha!"
