    1. There was a Devblog about scanning already with relevant information. They'll be blobs of voxels; the size and depth of the blob will be different for different resources. I'll let the table from the blog speak for itself:

    2. There hasn't been any clear-cut information in regards to this, but given the nature of the game and what it is aiming to be, my speculation is that voxels cannot ever be completely destroyed. You can fill a cargo container with tons of useless dirt and launch it into open space, but I don't think there will be some little red X that you can click on to magically delete stuff.

One reason for that is that it is simply unrealistic. It's just the nature of the game; everything is physical and tangible, you want ore from the guy the next system over, it has to be physically transported. Another reason is that someone could delete all of their valuables in a hurry if they knew they would be lost, or to troll. If you have a base filled with rare stuff, someone might be able to break in and delete it all, even if they have no way out. Or, after having your ship disabled by pirates, you could delete all of your stuff, making their endeavors worthless.

While dirt and rock aren't really valuable, I don't think they'll get exceptions and be deletable. They're physical, they gotta go somewhere!

I'm torn on the poll so I didn't vote yet. A fresh brand new player will have the absolute minimum in everything, but do I let him into private org areas just because he has nothing? Probably not. Would I be more inclined to do so if he said he was with a neutral org and had no hostile intentions and was definitely not recording and promised he wouldn't sell the recording to my enemies even if he was recording? Eh.

Trust would be a big concern here. But there's also the matter of how important keeping secrets will be in the first place. How big of a deal is it if I have an undergorund base where I'm building a ship and someone comes in and sees it? Is that a big problem that I get upset about, or is that really not even a concern and I can just say, eh who cares. It's hard to tell at this point how big of a deal some secrets will be.

So, if you really want to give everyone the impression that youre Space Switzerland, you're probably going to have to keep a small team and really ensure that those people aren't doing anything shady. But it also may be less of an issue than one may initially think.

“And he took up his parable, and said, Jehuz the son of Nariel hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said: he hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: the hills shall yet be fruitful, and the valleys shall be filled. The Eastern City shall yet return to the owners in peace. The multitudes will once again walk the passages from the East and the ships shall again dock at the Ports, bringing the wealth of the lands from the East and the nourishment from the West into thy gates.”

The Waves of Kings 54: 10-13

Rivers are the most important blood vessels of nature. For through them flows water: the essence of life. In every productive society and the greater economy, transportation is of burning importance.
In every war, logistics are as important as the weapons employed in the repelling or vanquishing of hostile forces.
In every successful company, logistics towers over many aspects of business.

In Dual Universe, a place with thousands of players, how much more important will the seemingly trivial luxury of transportation be? A single journey from one point to another, can make any player a wealthy one, or be the nail in the coffin for the unprepared victim.

Consider TRANCE the bridge over an impassable canyon. Or think of it as the blood vessels bringing life to dormant parts of the Universe. Visualise it as a power grid, illuminating unexplored areas, or regard it as the road to your success. TRANCE is all of these and much more, if only you will so much as gaze at it.
Star Gates are required for the overall success and welfare of the Dual Universe Community, especially as the known territories grow. Take into account the need for cooperation, the importance of the shifting dynamics of power and the necessity of easily accessible transport routes for medium and long distances.

    Do not fret:

The Aether has decided to be the pioneering force behind the use and provision of stargates for the greater Dual Universe Community.

    What TRANCE Is.

TRANCE is one category of a larger group of services known within the Aether as LIGHT. Its primary purpose is to facilitate and simplify logistics in Dual Universe. Publicly accessible stargates, created and maintained by the Aether are for the good of Dual Universe. Complementary services are also available, but unlike the Stargate Network, these are not entities of their own and will be directly tied to the Aether.

    What TRANCE is not.

It is not the Alpha and Omega of all Dual Universe transport systems. Stargates will be expensive to build, costly to protect and the system will be challenging to coordinate in its infancy. TRANCE will not get you thirty paces away from your start point – walk, sprint or use a craft for that. The purpose of TRANCE it to provide a dirt cheap way for people to travel over medium and long distances, reducing the risk and time spent in unstable or neutral territory.

TRANCE is not a plan hatched by Grand masters and occultists to take over your life and force you to do things you rather wouldn’t. TRANCE is not a government spying tool to gather information about your virtual transport tendencies and thus determine your real life patterns. Kindly get some help if you were thinking along that line.

Some might be sceptical about the idea of Stargate plans so early. For them we have this question: whose stargate system would you rather use: the one developed by a neutral organisation with plans long matured and an established clientele, or a system hurriedly set up by an organisation with questionable credibility and unstable plans?

TRANCE is owned and run by the Aether.

    - Yeah, you just have to be open with every piece of information and use every possible means so people believe you

To the other points of Shynras and ATM:

I think you misunderstood the main intention of DUHS. We're not neccessarily only a news site. We record history.
I only mentioned that you would gain access to some areas of an org which ARE NOT public because they want to show off their creation. Like the first org which built a death star. Or the first org which build a city on the moon. If you get a certain reputation and trust that we, DUHS, are only here to record history, we might be contacted by those orgs so that they can brag about it - because DUHS might have a huge reach within the community. This would be the only news we're interested in where we would need access - because such things are historically important.

OFC no one in their right mind will grant you access to a base or some secret chamber - and that's not the intention.

If some alliance disbands or two orgs form a mega cluster, we would just do an interview.
We would only do interviews in the streets of tortuga for example, recording impressions of the city while talking to cybrex. Or talk to astrophil while we walk the palace of emberstone. Such kind of things.

The main difference to eve here is, that we probably don't have perma cloaks - so reporters can't just watch without risk.

    Hi there,

I'm writing this post on behalf of the DUHS (Dual Universe Historical Society)

We just came up with an idea:

As we know, every account can have three characters. What would you do with the other 2 alts?

We were thinking of maybe an alt like: DUHS-Writer Lethys

    Here a few prerequisites:

    - Such an alt would only be skilled to fly the most basic ship (later on maybe the most basic FTL ship)
    - No weapon / AVA / CVC skills allowed
    - No defensive (to be seen....) skills allowed
    - No weapons on person or on that ship
    - No trespassing of territory
    - Only approved members of DUHS (maybe a public list with main character names too)
    - be polite, ask before doing/recording stuff,... - don't be a jerk
    - You're not allowed to use such an alt in any other way than recording stuff for DUHS (so you can't get access to a market hub your main char is banned from)
    - No usage of devices which could be used to spy on others (like scanners)
    - IF there is an API or something for skills, such alts have to make this API publicly available so that others can look up their skills in order to control them

So such an alt would only be used to record an ongoing battle for example as bystander. Or make a live-stream and comment on it (as players may be widely spread later on and can't participate if they wish). You could also record/showcase the latest model of a ship or city (let's say ODY will be very famous and are the first ones to build a deathstar for example). You could do interviews with people who witnessed something while walking through their city. Stuff like that - I think you get the idea.

Ofc an org would only give such alts the clearance to access their more or less public spaces - maybe later, once the reputation and trust is built, certain members get access to more restricted areas where special projects are highlighted, new techs are revealed, whatever - not a must though.

This is not about spying and infiltrating (as you don't get access to anything secret anyway), it's solely about recording the history of DU.

Let us hear your thoughts on this one

I know very well how punctual your writing is (beats mine for sure), but this sentence at the beginning of your post bugs me. Minor typo at the end?

I think an organized city structure is going to work, I think it's more likely to occur on other worlds besides Alioth in any case, or at least on Alioth but not near the Arkship. Every single new player will be starting in the same place; that place is prime real estate. People will want to make their section of that area near spawn be impressive and noticable. The area around the Arkship will be something closer to competition, not a cooperative effort, at least I think.

It seems you're focusing more on the Arkship area, but I feel that if what you're trying to put into practice is going to work, which it certainly can to some extent, it's going to work best at some distance from the Arkship. You've put good work and thought into this, that's awesome and I am impressed; consider lots of different contingencies.

As you said yourself in the OP: that would be RL planning. But this is a game as ATM already pointed out. People will just park their hovercraft/ship in the nearest possible location and will just fly straight to their destination at full speed.

And while I can understand people trying to plan a city from the beginning, it just won't happen. To me, DU is not america where you can plan ahead and build straight roads and everything.
It's more like what happend in europe: cities were built somewhere because of certain factors (food, water, ore,...) and were adapted as needed because of the technology at that time (Paris for example; there's a reason why there are huge boulevards which break down into smaller and smaller streets - that's not only because of wealth and showing off their richness in former times)

    Outpost Zebra

It has been a labour of love, it has. For weeks, a dedicated team worked tirelessly to achieve a goal. A goal not driven by the reward of money or the promise of fame; a goal unaltered by difficulties and undimmed by rumours. That goal, my friends, is Outpost Zebra.

This humble Outpost has no other purpose, but to spread the news of Dual Universe far and wide, to provide a platform for interaction between organisations and players alike. Consider it a home away from home, the figurative middle ground where parties on both sides of the spectrum meet to discuss events, share ideas, express opinions, promote their interests, find new friends…recruit new members.

    In the words of Falstaf:

Today, that idea has finally taken form. Aided by the ever ready help of ATMLVE, the skill of Epidemic, the expertise of Kael and the knowledge of Anonymous, and the quiet support from members of this Community, Falstaf’s dream of the platform for ideas and opinions to be shared has come true.

“Oz”, as we affectionately call it, is still in its infancy. It will mature in due time, and grow greater than many believe it can. However, for that to happen, Oz will need your patronage and your help.
Its goal is not to replace the Dual Universe Forums. No. That is neither our plan nor its purpose. Its goal is to complement the Forums, reach a wider audience, provide a place where conflicts are set aside and new ideas are birthed over jokes, galleries, articles, stories and media.

Outpost Zebra is a vantage point, looking over Dual Universe and bringing its best to you without the need to login and play.

Hopefully, it will convince thousands that Dual Universe is a life worth living.

It’s online now – the Outpost is active.

    Cheers.

This is all cool work, I am impressed! However, I think you are perhaps overestimating the complexity of how cities will operate. Buildings around the Arkship will sprout as their builders see fit; when I go to help build my organizations Arkship building, I am not going to check with my neighbors to see if it works out well with their plans. This is the internet after all, and people are going to build what they want, when they want it. Some will of course put planning in, but overall, you simply cannot coordinate that many people.

As for transit... Well people may be living and doing business in these cities, but not to the extent that they'll need buses or trains, at least I don't think so. There won't even be wheels in the initial release. There are hovercrafts and there are spaceships. And for the same reason you don't stop at red lights in GTA, people aren't going to go to a bus stop and wait for the big hovercraft to pick them up and take you to the other side of the planet. They're going to hop in their own hovercraft or spaceship and fly on over there at maximum speed with no regards to anyone else, because why can't they? People can even at least sprint.

Main thing is, people won't be commuting. It's not like they'll have daily jobs where they'll start at home, go out for the day, and come back. Generally, people will either sign out wherever they find themselves when they're done playing for the day, or they'll always sign out in their own safe zone. In either case, they are either responsible for their own transit.

I'm not trying to put your ideas down! I just personally think it's one of those things that you get grand awesome ideas in your head with all these plans and dreams, only to try and put them into practice and find they don't work out.
