NotReally ApheIia got a reaction from CptLoRes in 1.4 Feedback post
This update was without merit. The players numbers will further be punished till mandatory fun is had.

Unfun combat- unfinished PVE- and a rug pull on scans by the community. It bought NQ a single day of 2x player activity and it's back down to dwindling. If the PVE had been more... open world based, and fun- maybe. Where are the NPC ships flying about delivering goods? The Police enforcing Aphelia's laws...? or potential points of dynamic fun with everything that having dynamic NPC's in world means.... instead it's walled off in it's own part of the game, not adding anything to the game world itself.

I still hope that one day they'll have territory warfare, and more dynamic PVE. Daisy... daisy....

NotReally ApheIia got a reaction from Kezzle in Did NQ just announce their newest project...3d blogging software?
That's because it is. He means well, but it's apparent he is a late convert and not someone of the technology he preaches.

It is no offense to him, or NQ, just that it's a games company pretending to be a web 3 company... in an era when web 3 is struggling to take hold/dying in the crib, and video games are... well, bigger than ever.

Dual Universe is better served pleasing the game customer vs the.... web 3 crypto metaverse user... that doesn't exist yet, and has failed to manifest mainstream adoption in the last 25 years. Active Worlds, There.com, Second Life, Open Sim, Sansar, High Fidelity, NeosVR, and.... VR Chat. Not to say those arn't successful, but... Roblox exists and makes more money than all of those projects combined, why? it simplified the ability for content creators to make and sell content, aka games, directly to a captative audience.

Creators in those ecosystems account for 10% of the total user base, the other 90% are consumers of their content.  VR chat makes it easy to consume content, both in worlds made by others and avatars, plus it's gamified to a degree, or least allows games to be created within it.

If NovaQuark can pivot to that model, awesome... at this point I don't think they really have a clear idea of where to take it, or how to properly monetize their game, or how to pivot it into a concept that is closer to a web 3/metaverse game. Sure DU could sell some skins/items in a store, but... monetize your creators and let them build the content that gets monetized and potentially make even more... with less investment over time; or do both and make bank.

There is worry they're not agile enough, nor have the team required to make that happen though.

You may want to submit a ticket: https://support.dualthegame.com/

Sounds like you suffered from server issues/desync during the tutorial phase that may have caused issues with the tutorial. There is no way for you to restart it if that is the case, and you'll need to submit and wait for a ticket reply. Request for your game/account to be reset, may be the best bet if you had issues on the initial lander dropping over a planet- this will allow you to restart the tutorial. There is no other way to restart your character/intro.

IF it didn't break, you should be able to push "F4" on your keyboard to open up your map. You should, if the game didn't completely break, allow you to right click on a construct under the "Constructs" tab of the map list to the left, and select "Set as Destination" to put a waypoint to it. Likewise, should be able to sort through and find your territory, if the game registered one on entry. If you have at least a construct/territory in your map menu, then I'm going to assume you "died" on impact, and the game respawned you on a territory you don't own(If this happened, you will see "Last Known Death Position" listed on your map, you can right click that in the map menu, then "Set as Destination"... if that happened your territory/ships/items may be near that location.

    Hope that helps,

agree, the direction DU is going is only going to lead to selfdestruction.

systems based on taxes and timesinks as game features are dead but they dont know it yet.
The reason time sinks (instances) work in a regular MMO Are the rewards. What rewards are there on DU timesink? pay taxes? another time sink? maybe some talents 2500 or quanta 20k, but that is just throw away toilet paper worth.
No rewards per time unit spend, no reward per Quantasink, I stopped doing the tutorials because the rewards are so meaningless, I earn more by not logging for a day.

Someone in NQ missed the concept reward. Any game, Any, drives on rewards or leaderboards. But then again those leaderboards also contain rewards. So we are back to rewards. What rewards are there in DU? None, only time and quanta sinks

I wasn't going to write this post. It was also a post I never actually thought I would have to write, but events since release two months ago led me to this point.

I don't post a great deal on these forums, but I'm an avid reader and professional lurker since joining at the Alpha stage. I try to keep my finger on the community pulse and to keep up to date on updates and the general buzz. I've played since Alpha and mostly enjoyed all the time I've spent. There has been many times when DU has fought against me and attempted to break me down. However I was always sold, like many others, on that potential carrot on a stick of "What if?".

Over the DU development since 0.23 and beyond, the community was gutted due to the introduction of schematics. As updates and patches were introduced to the game, I've watched with dismay the amount of players with high standing in the community, slowly turn on NQ and Dual Universe when they get that stark realisation that this game is never going to live up to that perceived potential. Some go quietly into the night, others announce their vitriol for a few weeks before quitting with much fanfare.

Being a player since Alpha affords me an ability to see the bigger picture of what I perceive has been going on:

If you look at all the updates since Beta started and outside of some balancing updates to PVP and visual upgrades, everything else has been implemented to cut costs due to what I believe as woeful inadequacies at the design and concept level. The vision of this game and what was perceived could be done, didn't match the budget available and the technology. In short, the game that NQ wanted to make didn't match what they could afford to do. Hence, I believe, this is why JC was ousted and the company is now ran by the main investment company (who I feel wants their investment back). The game has had its life and soul gutted out of it, and with every "improvement" it takes another little piece of itself away.

When the announcement came that this game was going to be released, I'm pretty sure we as the community, were in the unanimous agreement that it was way too soon. The game was undercooked and needed a lot more time before it was ready. Any development company who wanted their undercooked product to survive would of released it as an early access product. However, Novaquark is a business ran by an investment company who wants to recoup. Keeping the game in another few years of beta or early access wasn't going to make them anywhere near the money needed to recoup. With no new investment, there was only one possible course of action, throw it out the door and see if it sinks or swims. Unfortunately they forgot to teach it how to swim or provide any floatation aids.

I don't want to be one of those doomsayers who, when they're not happy with the state of the game will immediately declare "zomg, this game is dead!" But It saddens me to say that, that is what I now believe. It died sometime ago when Novaquark realised that under the budget they currently have that there was no way they could afford the server costs to make it work as intended. It just took some of us longer than it should to see it for what it is.

So what is the immediate future? If you look at the current lack of content and updates, all that we're really getting is the completion of the supporter goals that should of been ready on release. Beyond that, as of writing this, nothing, no road map, nothing. No enthusiasm from Novaquark, no excitement, nothing.

Can the game be saved? In short, no. To do this, the game would need a large, fresh influx of money, coupled with a long protracted development time to essentially re-release and reinvent itself. We are at the point of no return though. NQ, I think are running on fumes and they know it. Releasing the game, wiping and increasing the subscription prices and then going essentially dark speaks volumes to their future plans.

I do wish it wasn't this way, and I am kicking myself a little for having to write one of these posts, but I felt it needed to be said. I know this game will still have its staunch defenders (I was one of them) who will go down fighting to the very last day. But this week the game broke me. As I logged in and did my busywork and realised I was barely able to cover my costs to keep the lights on with no real goal of progression any more, my love, passion and perceived potential for the game melted away.

I appreciate my rantings here are purely opinion and conjecture, but if you take the time to take a long hard look at the past few years of this games development, the clues are there. Many of us already know it and made their comments known on the various channels. The tone and overall feelings of the community are at an all time low right now and that should tell you everything as to what the community is currently feeling.

I'd love to be proved wrong, I still want the game to succeed, but my joy and passion, like many others past and present in this community, is gone and it would take a truly Herculean effort on the part of NQ to get it back again. However, judging by recent efforts I won't be holding my breath.

Hello there. I'll try be civil about this, as civil as possible, but understand I'm infuriated.

You perfected lumi-voxel in the PTS, absolute chef's kiss, but I come onto the update today and it's been ruined once again by that super jarring lighting multiplier effect. Lighting was finally quite consistent and positionally consistent in the PTS, now it isn't. It is, quite frankly, a mess.

For those reading this thinking: "I need lumi voxel for cheap lighting", let me tell you, they added a very simple thing in the PTS and now in live to be the solution, HDR for lights.
You can now increase brightness of lights by more than 100%, and it makes a huge difference at no FPS cost compared to normal brightness lights. Example of just one L light set to max brightness.

Maybe you don't understand the issue, I don't blame you if you weren't in the PTS, let me show you an extreme but common example: (Courtesy of Zer0Krypt)

Dual_Universe_2022-06-28_12-38-04.mp4 In this video, you see him standing right underneath the lumi-voxel, then he stands off from it and the whole room becomes dark. What should have happened is nothing, he should have seen zero light change, as in, there should have been no light no matter where he stood, or very little. Not this extremely lit to absolute darkness nonsense.

Please, I beg you NQ, fix this horrible effect by removing it. You removed it for the PTS, time to remove it forever.

You're going to keep playing, and you will enjoy it. Mandatory Fun! If you don't keep being awesome and testing PVP for everyone than NQ can't get the precious data to fix their servers, it's only been weeks of "fixes", and potentially months more are needed. You will test it. you will like it. Thank you for your service.

Keep testing. Keep playing. FOREVER and EVER AND EVER! Have another fight for Gamma, you were parroting that it was a great event only a week ago....?
