  1. In due time, a chat integrated into this website might make sense and it would boost community interaction and relations. Featured channels can be general, off-topic, organizations (to allow recruitment there or discussion), etc.
  2. It's this or warmongering. Come on now, easy choice. *Goes back to the factory to wörk wörk wörk*
  3. We're still looking. Sure, as potential applicant you might wonder: "Why you over the others?" In the end, it's a question of preference and style. That's what it boils down to. It's hard to say "this group is better" or "this is worse". The pros and cons of one might be reverse for the other. And surely, there are many great organizations out there, just as there are likely not so good ones out there. It's subjective. Perhaps you want a very optimistic recruitment pitch. I prefer to be realistic. While it might be part of the whole "immersion" or "roleplaying part" I actually do not prefer buzzword bingo but getting straight to the point at times. The advantage is that you know what to expect. ----------------- If you look for safety in numbers in an individual organization while possibly getting everything handed to you, then we're not the right fit just as we have no intend to conquer the known universe. While that preference is understandable, we instead can offer a more tight-knit environment so far as we grow. Of course, if we are realistic we can never compete with the massive manpower of larger organizations. But do we want to? Others can do more but you don't always have to compare yourself no matter what. Walk your own path and see if you like it. You might just be happier with a few challenges here and there. That may carry a different taste in a smaller group compared to a larger one. Just as hardships might be higher, the reward or accomplishment will also be higher. Besides, smaller groups are possibly less volatile over time. If I look back at our first campaign in Minecraft, I know it was worth it. We got through many hardships and overcame them only to rise to the top factions in that old server community after having beaten all notable raiders and adversaries with our partners. It was a team effort all in all and we look forward to walking a similar, perhaps even better path again for Dual Universe, should it not fail. 'But what is the deal now', you might ask? We intend to portray a Corporation with more focus on immersion or elements of RP without expecting that people play a role all day. Three core branches, many things to do. In addition we have ties to an alliance already, so we don't stand alone. If you want a challenge by helping a slowly growing organization, then this is the right place. Should you be interested, simply send a PM first. If not, should you be looking for an organization: Good luck in your search. When in doubt, give it time, compare, contact the individual organizations and ask questions rather than joining the next best you see.
  4. I've been watching it with many breaks in-between various episodes, often days, so the experience might feel a bit "disconnected" compared to watching it "in one go", but I must say so far it is entertaining. Then again I'm not through it yet. I think I'm somewhere at S1E8 or something. I also like the whole political landscape and the factions.
  5. Or just put a fence around the area and call it mining site, if it's logically connected and locally limited. Alternatively, players can fix it. Besides, I doubt many player organizations will have their (owned) landscapes or trade hubs look like crap. They still have to mine? See above, put a fence around it and make it obvious with signs. For "wild mining", come up with faction volunteers or some other initiative to fix it properly. Already did it in Minecraft where the surrounding area of the city (new player spawns and safe trade hub) was bombed. It was a bit of work but it all looked nice and green afterwards again. If you don't want to fill once elevated spaces (would take more resources and time to even it out) you can also just cover the very first layer of blocks to be faster.
  6. I currently don't consider this to become a giant issue. Perhaps it could change, perhaps I am yet care free, perhaps for others some things might become a huge issue but I think a good thing to have is a thick(er) skin while trying to police things in the game first. You don't like what someone built? Try to evoke change through the game if you can. If it's really bad or breaking TOS etc you can still consider reporting it. A thick skin is good regardless because chances are that a "possibly offensive object" can be placed like that for many to see for a while. Alternatively they'd have to ban how certain blocks are connected, which I don't see happening. I also think that the amount of questionable objects will be limited all in all. It don't think there will suddenly be swastikas, genitalia, hate speech etc with a relationship to reality or just childish things everywhere.
  7. Good news. In reference to the previous or initial posts without looking at anyone in particular: De-escalation, people. Try it sometimes, it can help with the nerves. If not now, then for the future. I realize that we're all human with certain traits and quirks and that is mostly fine, and sometimes you may shake your head at another user or specific post at least, but in that case taking a deep breath, a step back, etc. and trying a more constructive approach initially can help and not cause long-term problems between individuals. And believe me, some grudges I've seen over trivial things can ruin days ... or even result in more damage or people leaving. But don't get me wrong, this is no "end of the world posting" in this case, nor that it really escalated here - could've been worse after all. Merely using the chance to highlight that some really tough conflicts can start over little things. Acknowledging this means that one should potentially fight this problem early on. At least on a public stage. NQ surely considered users posting in here and did not mind - and if it was an oversight and they notice they can still change it accordingly. So it should be fine.
  8. Something "modern-ish". Of course you could ask: "What is modern...ish?" It's relative. I'm personally not so fond of some of the disco-like animations (see video above). Some things are modern or would then be considered modern, some things are perhaps "timeless". Heck, when in doubt and given enough resources or time: The more you add, the merrier. Ultimately, it would be relatively trivial in comparison to the overall game however. The personal use I could see is (random shenanigans aside) certain videos you want to make. Then again, depending on how big emergent gameplay and social hubs could be later on, it might be more vital. Or perhaps some sort of RP fanbase might benefit from it. Boils down to "the more the merrier" again though. If you invest, you may as well cover diverse styles from more passive to active and lively ones. On that note, a general broad offer of emotes is advised due to many possible reasons - even if it's just picture-taking in different poses due to emotes.
  9. You know, that seems convincing to me. And that's the key aspect: if it seems convincing and could basically also be an official trailer, then I personally think: "Good job!" It will surely help long-term promotion.
  10. Basically what Lethys said. I don't really think it will "split" the community much and even if: just a question of time. I doubt we'll eventually see roughly 50% use DU reddit A and the other 50% use DU reddit B - especially if the devs favor one place over the other. Chances are the more vibrant place with dev involvement will be favored by a larger part of the overall playerbase eventually, other places will just attract a fraction of it. The "market" at work I suppose.
  11. Of course I'm commenting with a strong gut feeling here without really knowing the creator of the Dual Universe reddit (the one being questioned), nor did I do an awful lot of extensive research into the persona to get, well ... "more than gut feeling", nor can I obviously see banned posts, nor did I check myself if I would get banned by posting something "fitting". (That was basically my disclaimer) But if that's all basically correct here as stated, then I suppose there's mostly two options. The creator actually believes in the puppet thing or just uses it as excuse - or does so subconsciously at least. Excuse for what? I guess being able to run those and feel good about it? After all, someone said he did create various other game related subreddits. In addition to the whole "banning the competition" thing from the own reddit under some pretense (stated above) it doesn't seem to require a rocket scientist or psychologist to figure out that something is just "off" about it, eh? Oh well. In the end, some people are weird. Of course, "weird" is very subjective, so instead of "weird", perhaps we could use the term "difficult to interact with at times". That could fit. In the end, people can make offers. Apparently some were made and they were met with rejection and censorship. If that was the case then all you can do is just move on. If even the Devs prefer the other reddit over his, then that's natural selection I suppose. What doesn't work lands on the trash heap of history or is phased out in evolution. Pick whatever term you like. With that said or written, don't worry about it. Let's pick the vibrant reddit over the other one and benefit from it - as a community. And should the creator of the other reddit read this thread and these lines: Feel free to step up and comment from your own perspective - perhaps it's unjust or there is a plot twist? Or is it as people assume? Still: That's what discourse, debate, discussion and more is about after all.
  12. Quanta? Pff. The currency should be called "Doggos"! Space Doggos! (SD) I will pay with 1000 (space) Doggos! No? Fine. Jeez. Party poopers, y'all.
  13. How about "Doggos"? No? Alright, fine...
  14. I wouldn't assume the end of the world and a "toxic (and then) dying community" - you can't 'control' everyone nor press them into or through some unwritten code of conduct. "Nature" itself will handle most things, or rather a complex system of action and reaction, cause and effect. With safe zones and whatnot there will already be relatively or very safe areas dotted around the galaxy or universe. In the end, a certain risk in not controlled or policed areas is part of it. My point is not everyone can be 'toxic' everywhere, thus I consider it to be fine. In short my current recap would be: You have some points and perhaps some things should be looked at, but on the other hand there is no need to become that "The apocalypse is nigh!" guy with the sign on the street yet.
  15. As already stated by some, some things in that area will be less popular or spread out (niche market, higher risk, etc.) than others. I do see a more golden future for the event and entertainment branch, including news of any kind. That is often also less abstract for most people, often associated with a faster "reward" or feedback compared to insurance, banking, etc. I am also more leaning towards those things than banking and whatnot and I am sure some of the things will have a practical reasons, such as hotels. The question is: who mans or operates some of these things if automation can't take care of it? You'd have to be (or find) that guy behind the counter, hoping for customers. At least in some hotel if it can't be automated unlike some other things like a parking lot. In such or a hotel, you'd have to consider security aspects in turn and hire people or do it yourself. Or, say, clubs. Those probably need increased "maintenance" to make something out of it. In the end, the question is: Is the reward worth the effort or risks I guess.
  16. I'd be against it if it wipes the organization as entity, requiring it to be made again, rather than just wiping all but the founder. "How will I be able to brag in a few years otherwise, pointing at the early creation date of it!?" Also what mefsh said. TRUST NOBODY, EVERYONE IS AN ALT! Everyone but Cybrex!
  17. Well, the first step is that you expressed being sorry (whether 100% sincere or also out of pressure). Given that you explained how you did it and posted in the first place compared to just moving on with an alt (the irony it would be) and starting anew also seems to speak in your favor. I don't exactly agree with some of your reasons as Star Citizen player myself. You partially have a point. The sheer size of some organizations there, numbering in the thousands or above ten thousand (1 or 2, few at best) is a marketing aspect in its own way. But it sounds a bit like no one would have a chance there due to the larger ones and I think that is not entirely fitting. Depending on your expectations, that is. Don't always look up at them or you might forget where you are going to, like someone staring at the sky while walking forward in a crowded area... or the cliffs. I joined SC mid 2015 where many organizations were already established. And I see many smaller, innovative (and new) organizations grow and build a foundation regardless of the big ones. In addition, not all want to join a massive organization. Chances are some of the giant ones also collapse due to infighting. In short, if you are innovative and bring some associates, you will (slowly) grow despite the many organizations existing there, small or large. And yes, there are even smaller banking groups you could help grow. Consider this for the future and perhaps SC in general, this year will see some interesting additions with 3.0. But of course DU will also see some good progress this year.
  18. We should generally not forget that any user on the forum can already 'create' or 'advertise' an organization, so I see little problems with being slightly more restrictive over at the community hub - even if it boils down to "only funders can create an organization, but invite anyone else". Even if there was some obstacle for someone on the hub, they could make a thread here just fine and advertise.
  19. Possible ways of limiting such impact or damage If we want to limit fake accounts boosting organizations, the most easy thing that pops up in my mind is to make it harder. Seems obvious, but would be the first realization. Thus we ask how it can be made harder - likely by adding some sort of requirement. mefsh, for example (if not others before him), just suggested we add a time requirement before anyone can join an organization. That seems like a good option, even if it's not really a lasting solution as someone could also just create X accounts and then wait for X amount of time. If it would not stop some from doing it, it would delay the problem at least. A tougher limitation would be pledging. In another certain game in development, you can only join an organization via the integrated organization system (here, it would be our community hub with all the organizations) if you pledged. That would be a bigger deterrent but not all could be in favor of it, as it could also exclude players from certain organizations - players that are not ready to pledge yet. Perhaps there are other ways, but I let others step ahead. I mostly focus on these two aspects now: - Limit who can join an organization by adding the requirement that an account is either X old or has pledged A time requirement merely delays the problem if one was serious about it, a pledge is a harder deterrent but could exclude a few players - for now. However, would it be that bad? I don't think so. Players (without pledge) could still join an organization via the forum and later via the community hub if they pledged. Other alternative: We roughly keep it as it is, but mark user accounts in organizations that did not pledge. It would basically make spotting some alt cases easier without really doing much else. Would still require some sort of manual action or investigation. The time limit or pledge requirement would be more automatic, resulting in less initial work for anyone. E: I guess the "Only backers can create organizations" thing could also work as compromise and likely limit these cases, but once someone backed it would mean free reign for alts if one was again serious about it.
  20. Thanks for the reply. I guess it's official now
  21. I don't think so? I mean, unless all mods responsible for forum aspects also happen to be developers who have to split their time depending on demand in either section. Unless you were rather referring to "lead decisions" on the matter, for example via JC. Then again I don't think it takes a terribly large amount of time out of their schedules. They could just mention it in one of the regular meetings they surely have and decide on a course, and then the mods mostly enforce it.
  22. A train could work in such a fashion. Like an advanced version of the Minecraft ones, but basically as some sort of construct type fit to work on some kind of attached (rail) system. It would be automated unless you want to hire train operators or have small "do it yourself trains" to get to various locations on rails or limited ways. Then again, even if automated completely via script, someone would be near or in it as it operates so I guess the point still stands. It would be amusing to send back and forth "drones" between two areas, though. In the end, it depends on the distance where things stop operating when no player is around. Will it be within one KM? A few? Regional, planetary? Now we got from roads to rails. Better not "de-rail" this thread. Ehehehe...eheheh... I better leave before the pitchforks come again...
  23. That won't change. It's even in the terms of service or similar, where NQ states it does not have the technical measures or options to verify each user individually (the same IPs aside maybe, this seems to refer to real credentials). Section 7.4 I think. The latter you can somewhat prevent if you don't invite everyone and their mother. Damage control at least.
