  1. Whose great idea was it to have the edit and share buttons at the top of the post? Say I write a post, I then proofread it a few minutes after posting (need time to reset the brain to notice one’s own mistakes)... Then I have to scroll all the way back to the top of the post and click on a pull down menu button to reveal the edit function, then click edit. or say I read a post and want to share it... I have to go back to the top of the post and click. yeah, I know it’s not a big deal, and the white knights will say: but you’re just lazy. Still, the point stands that it seems as little thought has gone into the forum ui as the skills ui. At least the quote button is at the bottom. Lol.
  2. That’s not going to fly: Requires dev time. NQ’s standard MO lately is to not actually develop code but merely shuffle variables about a bit and hope for the best. so any solutions we propose need to assume a requirement of almost zero coding. Simplest method without a doubt is the auto compact to magic bloop (after some arbitrary set time: 48hrs... 1 week) that can only be decompactified on the same tile. if they want it to be punitive, have a redeployment fee based on core size. this solution has been proposed by Myself and others hundreds of times. But thank you ended up just expanding the landing pad which is about the worst, most inane solution imaginable.
  3. Going from travel to cruise is safe because it just sets cruise speed to your current speed, but coming back to travel will indeed set your engines to zero. But you should have your original momentum and your brakes should not instantly engage. moreover. It doesn’t matter if you use alt-R or tab and mouse. Both work the same. the problem with tab mouse is that you have to remember to press tab again to go back to control mode. once back, you should just be able to scroll the mouse wheel to engage the desired thrust level. now if you have L atmos or worse, advanced or rare freighter engines, you’ll find that the upwards of 30 seconds T50 (time to reach 50% thrust) will mean your ship will take time to come back up to power and if you are loaded, you may start to drop. add to that the typical tanked frame rates around the markets and you have a potential for disaster. I personally wouldn’t swap from cruise back to travel until I was safely parked.
  4. I used to play SL back in the early noughties. Loved it. Only stopped visiting when my favourite haunts (blade runner city being the most notable and a place called Paradise Island, I think) disappeared. I tried it again when my Oculus Rift arrived with patches to make it VR capable. And there there was a new project SL2 or some such, but the magic was gone for me and SL was a mere shadow of its former self. The amazing creativity on display from individuals and real organizations like Sony and IIRC even Gap had an SL presence for a bit. IMO, SL was pretty much the perfect VR. I always imagine wha tit would have been like today if it had continued to flourish instead of the 2D web. that’s why I love DU so much. It reminds me of the early days of SL! I look forward to seeing what you can build with DU’s versatile voxel tech (once you learn it’s foibles).
  5. Yeah sure. Wipe the whole game again. That’ll fix it. Third time’s a charm and all that. lol. after taking a break, I turn around and look back on the hundreds of hours I put in and can’t help but wonder “what is a grown man doing playing video games?” kinda made me put my whole, recent life into perspective. I actually think I’m likely done with games.
  6. Of course, I was just saying what I heard from a friend.... ? I have never used or attempted to load 18.56kT of pure Iron and 4.2kT of refined Copper from Alioth out of the atmosphere using a single L rocket booster and tank strapped to a bunch of containers on an M core with only 2L atmo and a single L space engine... And of course, I would never then deploy the warp drive that also happened to be in the container -using build- to allow my (friend's) construct to stop without bothering about shite like space brakes trying to stop over 20kT by warping the final 5 SU to Madis (for example)... My friend is a complete douchebag....
  7. problem with NQ quickpatching stuff like this is that due to the thoughtless shallow nature of their "fixes" they inevitably end up with another bug that is exploitable... i love this bug because it would (completely theoretically of course) allow me to do the following... (were I so inclined to cheat in a game like this, which I wouldnt't, of course ? ) say (hypothetically) that i fly an xs construct at 1000kph straight down and log off with Alt-F4... this becomes a landmine for anyone touching it. instadeath. a more interesting (theoretical of course I would never abuse this ? ) use case is take off with a tiny construct with nothing but a bunch of empty L containers and enough rocket power to quickly reach 15k velocity and make sure that are you are linked as primary to the container... 10 L or 10 XL should do... as soon as you reach the top of the atmosphere press b... boost to 10 ot 15k speed and respawn at your base. now you have a stationary ship about 10 km or 12km up that you can load with 20kT of stuff so long as you dont touch the ship...once loaded get someone to fly you within build distance.. BUT DONT TOUCH THE SHIP... then press B and move over to the ship... as soon as you touch it, the ship will blast away at 15k kph... basically escape velocity... fuel used: hardly any... of course, this is completely theoretical, i was told how to do this by a friend. NQ would probably then rename this purposeful feature an exploit, language selected to shift the blame from the devs onto the players...
  8. Don’t know anything about the guy, but first thing I found was from the guardian from 2010. seems he tried to go back on a financial agreement he made with a partner and then got royally slapped down by the UK Supreme Court. interesting that his profile picture looks identical to his picture in the newspaper from 11 years ago. could well be a vampire. Though he is still only in his mid 40s. https://www.theguardian.com/law/2010/oct/20/banker-fails-challenge-prenup-heiress
  9. Those bloody, well-intended bakers and their goddamned hearths.... Too bad as I like a decent loaf of rich, salty bread. Yeah, this game is so not a beta that it's not even funny. I made a new word just to describe DU... it's a Balpha. "didn't want to hear it..." or also likely didn't want to bear it.... I think there has been some major staffing haemorrhaging recently.
  10. You get 10 reacts in any 24 hour period. On busy days I run out... it's a thing.
  11. Who knows, given JC’s handling of the situation it could end up better. Since Chris Roberts’ brother Erin stepped in, SC has been moving a fair bit smoother... Erin is more pragmatic than Chris and less of an out and out perfectionist-micromanager. Erin is ostensibly only the production lead in Foundrry 42 in the UK but that is the studio in control of the whole project so he is now the de facto producer of SC. there’s been a marked reduction in empty waffle and pie in the sky technobabble and an increase in meat and vegetable core functions and game loops. All good, if you ask me. they just need someone a bit more grounded in reality handling DU, someone who can prioritize properly and know what needs to be done first and also can handle the players fairly, without bias.
  12. Almost as many as there were during the DU NDA alpha. Lol. OH HANG ON, I don’t think I’m allowed to say that...NDA. it was so crowded those first few weeks after the alpha restart. Madis MP3 is also very quiet these days. Until about a month ago it was fairly active. Until two months ago, it was humming with major activity. hell, I went to Utopia station a few days ago and that was also silent. these 8 weeks have been utterly brutal, numbers-wise.
  13. Yeah. In another thread I said wouldn’t it be good if, like number of cores you had a skill that limits the number of machines you can run and maybe have a core hard limit. That would prevent single players and orgs from going over the top... maybe.
  14. LOL the OP... It's like Angry from Manchester... brought into the 21st century.
  15. This is a bit unusual, when a CEO changes, there is often at least a press report of some description, and often a letter of intent from the new head honcho and or a letter of departure from the previous one.
  16. But the fact that it takes 600 days means that at 120 days you had all your skills 80% there. and at just 24 days you had all your skills 60% there... This game is based on Pareto but with a finite, "mastery" limit that is identical for everyone with no choice or variation at the top.
  17. For intermediates to shine, they would need specialisations that go beyond L5... each one taking geometrically longer to reach... Even better, the levels would not be discrete but continuous improvement with SP, giving you finer-grained control over your product costs and meaning that tweaking the machines daily would bring incremental cost and speed benefits as your player improved, not just once every few weeks when your player increases something from L4 to L5... Currently, an industrialist can reach mastery in two dozen skills in a single year, but if there was no maximum level, people could choose their own level of "enough is enough" and That way, JC's weird fascination with "screw specialists" could come true... A relatively new player could specialise in one single thing and be better than 90% of the population within a few weeks and likely find a buyer for their intermediate products. Not the juiciest game play, perhaps... though... LOL.
  18. Seems fairly clear cut from the quote directly above and NQ-Decard's comment on discord pretty much corroborating the above that intentionally causing the destruction of ships parked in the safe zone is verboten regardless of the method employed to "transport" them out... Although the bit (emphasis mine): as of this moment forward abusing similar bugs/tools to replicate this maneuver in its current state could pedantically be interpreted to mean that once the state of the game changes, this would no longer be against the rules! or, even more pedantically, a few moments later this momentarily relevant statement is no longer canon. You can basically "pedant" your way out of pretty much anything, which is why 1) we can't have nice things and (2) why EULAs etc are 100 pages long, just to avoid this pedantry. Edge cases are where it's most interesting, though. From the above, like in the real world, it seems that even if the action wasn't intentional, the onus is on the interloper to not cause damage.... Let's say a player jumps innocently onto a ship parked next to but not directly touching a space station and the ship starts to sloooowly drift towards the planet, but at that exact time, the player gets a call from their gf/bf/sf and forgets about the game for an hour or two... only to come back and realised they have respawned on their Res Node. As it turns out, they have caused the other player's ship to inadvertently crash. If the crashed player complained, because the ship crashed near a base and the core was replaced, it would be really hard for the first player to prove their lack of intent.... Hyper theoretical edge cases are the most fun, to be sure.
  19. It’s because it’s from five years ago that it’s interesting. it’s fascinating to see what has survived and what has been culled in the interceding time.
  20. Unless the situation affects NQ directly, due to, (say, off the top of my head) incompetent RDMS settings getting used against them without exploiting any bugs whatseover, just after shouting that they would absolutely NOT assist players who fucked up their own RDMS settings, then I wouldn't hold my breath for an NQ response of any consequence.
  21. Here's their first update from 8th of September 2016! I had completely forgotten they wanted to have a F2P tier, initially. reading the 1000+ comments, it's clear the salt started hard and early, with loads of backers completely unaware that the game had moved out of alpha to it's current pseudo-beta (balpha, as I like to call it) version. At least I realise why they called it a beta now... some backers apparently only had beta access... so it's possible they moved the naming to include them? (clutching at straws here).... -------- Hi guys! Already 135,354€ and 27% covered! This is amazing! We can’t thank you enough guys, thank you for your support! So, this is the first update, and we wanted to bring some light on one important point. There has been a lot of discussion recently about the monetization of Dual Universe, and the question of the subscription model. Let us clarify here what we have in mind, so that you can see all the options we will offer: Free to Try “trial” access: there will be a free to try access to Dual Universe, with limitations on things like how much skill, money and/or space you can access to. The details of the limitations are not yet defined precisely, but it will be made such that you can enjoy the game and have a taste of its large scale potential. Pay to Play “premium” access at a price at launch that we will keep in the range of comparable products on the market (typically around $10-$13/month or 10€-13€/month depending on the country), decreasing when bought in large bundles: this is the full scale game, with no limitation. DAC access: Dual Access Coupons are items that you can buy on the in-game markets with the in-game money you make while playing, and that you can turn into one month of Premium play time. You can also buy a DAC from Novaquark to sell it on the in-game market in exchange of in-game currency. DACs will have a price of $18/€18 at official release (for reference, items similar to DACs used in other MMORPGs are priced around $20/€20). Alpha/Beta access: no subscription involved. As you can notice, the real money price of a DAC will be higher than the normal price of one month of subscription, which may have caused confusion as some people, quite understandingly, assumed that the monthly premium sub would cost as much as a DAC. This is not the case. We hope this helps clarify our future business model. The reasoning behind the choice of a Pay to Play premium access has been discussed in detail in a devblog post about monetization that we made in April. We believe this model is the best to ensure both a high quality of playing experience and the best possible support for our customers. Remember also that Dual Universe is meant to become a massive MMO experience: if we are successful we will have to run a large and costly cluster of servers, especially since we have this unique continuous single-shard approach. Again, the team at Novaquark wants to thank warmly all the 1700 backers that have supported us so far! Don't hesitate to spread the word and get everyone on board! ----
  22. As you rightly stated, since this game was open to a more general public in 2017, it's obvious that this game was in development before that since they showed prototypes in their Kickstarter videos back in 2016, when I first heard about the game. That means that they have had at least the framework in place 5 years ago or so... which means development obviously started before then unless JC is a Time Lord. Some people just seem to want to argue tiny points for the sake of arguing. I'm pretty sure he knew that, too, but was just being intentionally obtuse to suit the narrative.
  23. 1) From what I know of him, Elias seems to be a fairly stand-up sort of guy. I don't see a reason for him to lie about something like that. 2) This is an alpha (yeah, I know they call it a beta), so we should be focussed on testing and bug reports and keep the childish, willie waving in-game, Eve-wannabe politics until the game is a bit more feature complete. 3) Causing unnecessary grief to others for no real personal gain is a super twatty thing to do. Not sure if you read the thread, though. The script has been doctored so you can't simply copy and paste it. Apparently it uses a bug whereby certain characters embedded in the script prevent that. (crash the client?) So maybe they would have to screenshot it or something. Not sure. pro tip: Elias should have just used links to local files stored in his game's Lua subfolder on his own hard disk, which is the ultimate in game theft protection.
  24. MMO in this case stands for Marginally Multiplayer Online. I do hope this game can somehow claw itself back from the edge, but I have my doubts.
  25. My wife had problems too, recently... I tried clicking, nothing... In the end I had to reboot her.
