  1. At this point in the game's history, I honestly see no point in giving one's suggestions any more.

Pretty much everything you have said has been suggested in some form or other by others both here and even more pointlessly on Discord.

NQ are developing the game at their own pace, in their own way and very obviously, in their own sweet time. They clearly don't need our opinions. /shrug/

My first ever gripe with DU, made over 4 years ago, IIRC was XS Space Tanks, this was requested dozens if not hundreds of times. And at loooooooong last, in the "Final Release" (LOL), version of the game, they were added.

Instead of listening and adding one scaled element to the game, a few years later they introduced a fuelling access point which was not a linkable element but was basically just a 1 voxel micro-door. LOL.

It took nearly 50 months to introduce one single element which had been requested repeatedly so many times that to me, it almost became a meme.

In conclusion, I would say the game has (or is) a solid foundation.

The question is: "What do you plan on building on top of it?" ;)

THE SPACE MMO ENTIRELY BUILT AND DRIVEN BY PLAYERS

cut from the front page of the site pretty much answers that question. They will point to that any time players say there is a lack of content.

Looks like this is not activated for beta players with no DAC or playtime, so players who got a key can actually Not get ingame to claim their stuff without paying a sub

No, if an account hasn't put any money into the game, you don't get any free play time.

You have to have paid for the base account itself or alternatively paid for at least one month of subscription. So people who gifted themselves their 4 Beta keys to use as Alts are going to only be able to play with their original Alpha account.

True, when I teleported to the ship museum I had 30-40 fps, quite bad when I consider my setup (3070, 5600X, 32 GB RAM). I wonder what would the fps of a recommended PC be, 15-20?

Mostly server based limits. I get about the same FPS with RTX3080, 5950X, 64GB RAM.

  5. I still find it unbelievable that NQ wiped all our stuff without even having the decency of giving us a method to reassemble all of our hard work properly.

This kind of behaviour smacks of lack of respect towards the paying customer, in my opinion.

We have some multi core Bloops that we will need to place in the near future, but having a 2px gap around the outside of each core will not do!

I pointed this out at the beginning of BETA and everybody seemed to think I was crazy, so, dont expect to get any support.  It annoys me because a science fiction game should be based in science.  If you cant understand basic science such as 2kg plus 1 KG does not equal 6KG  then what the hell else is wrong.

    (Quote emphasis mine)

It always makes me chuckle seeing people who had a few people respond with negative reactions on their posts stating global victimhood and blaming everyone around them, seems to be a popular trend this last dacade... Oh Woe Is Me!!!...    jeez.

Regarding the post, far from people saying you were crazy, there were dozens of people stating the same thing as you and even NQ themselves at one point stated that they were trying to keep final mass lower than input mass. TBH, I don't see what's so hard... Hell, at one point there was even an item called Catalyst 3 that became self generating instead of being consumed slowly, if one had enough skills.

I once compiled a tedious list of most of the aspects of the game's "fizziks" that were broken, but I'm pretty much beyond caring at this point.

My tediously scientific and engineering literacy has basically ruined the immersion for me of pretty much every sci-fi game besides Kerbal.

So no, you might be feeling a little bitter but you are not the victim and not everyone thinks you are crazy.

  7. Good tiles on Sanc? It’s a shithole that everyone tries to leave at first dawn… just look at the colour they especially chose the sky if you don’t believe me.

    ….and we have Haven anyway.

Really don’t see what all the salt is about.

Our whole clique has 10 sanc terry units between us and not one is even posted yet.

why do we need two safe moons? I honestly don’t even know.

  8. My brake did not activate. Luckily the descent pod landed with just a few busted fins.

Besides that, I must say the New User guidance has been smooth as glass. There was just one hiccough where I had already deployed the speeder and it asked me once again to deploy it, so I had to put it back in my backpack and redeploy it... LOL

Besides that, all I can say is the start up experience is a helluva lot better than the Beta Day 1.

Performance wise, the game is also in a much, much better place than it was in 2020.

TBH, I already don't miss my beta builds and am looking forward to a fresh start.

All in all, I'm giving this game an 8/10 for start up smoothness. Of course the real test comes in  a years' time when all the orgs are established... Will there be new gameplay loops available by then?

Wow.  Nice hack of that quote <smile>.  Didn't Greenspan say that originally?  I had thought it was a Nixon quote, but can't find it being attributed to him.

"I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU THINK I SAID, BUT I AM NOT SURE THAT YOU REALIZE THAT WHAT YOU HEARD IS NOT WHAT I MEANT"

well spotted. It’s has been attributed to several people from the US senate including as you say Nixon and Greenspan. But I don’t think it’s actually that old.

I had always been under the impression that it was actually Robert J McCloskey who first said it.

He worked for the department of state and was a press spokesman known for his way with words.

I first started to see it in about 1984 where it was photostated and reworked into oblivion and I came across it many times in quick succession in places such as on my Headmaster’s desk at highschool, pinned to my friend’s fridge, hung in a frame on the wall in our local clubhouse - and even in a doctor’s or dentist’s office, as I recall.

I remember memorizing it perfectly to impress the adults. Lol

It was basically a kind of a proto-meme.

Be glad you didn't sign up a few months from earlier from the initial launch. This is my fourth, and I didn't play that much alpha at all.

I'm still unsure wether I'll put in some elbow grease to get some tiles where floating peni will be in commonly used flight paths, or if I will make a point out of not playing for a year or two to prove people's fixed ideas didn't matter: that the game can be joined at any time without putting everybody through the negative fun first month.

Like really I defy any wipists to show me a sandbox where a fresh game is as unfun as in DU. Eat login queues and get dissapointed!

i know I believe I understand what I think you just said but I’m not sure I’m certain that what I read is quite what you meant, if you catch my drift.

  11. I’ve given up writing anything positive here or giving my opinions about how the game should proceed. No point.

There’s so much missing stuff. So many placeholders.  And a lot of those things (like the off-centered COM of the warp drive) haven’t been addressed for literally years.

By now, I just see this game as a building game, like Second Life back in the early 2000’s but without the fancy object scripting and creation language.

  12. I want this game to succeed and I certainly don’t understand lunaprey’s weird flex.

And The Seven Heavens know I’ve pumped enough money into it to buy two copies of NMS, two copies of ED and a star citizen starter pack.

but I just don’t see how a company that makes so many odd judgement calls (like just the forums being overrun with pins, for example) that seem to defy common sense will be able to pull off what 19 out of 20 other start ups fail to achieve: a profitable company within five years.

I hope I’m wrong and that DU gets 10,000 subs off the bat. Enough to cover even 7% of the 150k tiles or whatever there is on sanctuary. But since most players will no longer be ALTing given the new prices, I have my doubts.
