  1. The new upcoming 0.24 mission system is yet another examples on the NQ dev style, and how it leads to balancing issues and community backlash. In short, we essentially know nothing about the mission system. No ideas exchange, no community feedback, nothing. So when NQ release 0.24, that will be the first time we get to see and try the mission system. Meaning NQ will already be heavily invested in the new system, before any player has had a chance to try or comment on anything. And it also happens to be the complete opposite off what was promised during the kickstarter.
  2. That's just a bad implementation in that case. Just queue the past and split it into multiple transfers if so needed.
  3. It is well known that the NQ 'beta' release was forced, mostly likely by the investors. A do or die so to speak. But that is not what is troubling me. The lack of actual progress in the game, especially during alpha but also now after 'release' is much more worrying. If you look at for example the dev videos for Starbase on youtube, there is a steady stream of actual progress at frequent intervals. NQ on the other hand will now and then do some sporadic PR push, and then stay quiet until the next big patch that most likely breaks the game in some fundamental way.
  4. NQ doesn't do suggestions, unless they are 100% in-house and completely different from any established method.
  5. P2P is just a broad term for decentralized data distribution. But one of the fundamental principles for P2P networks, is to try and maintained data integrity regardless of one or more clients being disconnected. So the Elite behavior can be seen as atypical for a P2P network.
  6. The mission system will obviously be limited to features supported in the game, so the list of possible mission types isn't that long. And some of them like building etc. would be hard to quantify in a mission planner interface. Here are the ones I can think of. - Various transport type missions - Rescue - Mining - Bounty - Escort - Building/terra-forming? - Racing (timed waypoint) mission? - Crafting?
  7. Maybe I could have formulated it better, but that was what I was trying to say. The problems at NQ are systematic, and no amount of wipe is going to fix that.
  8. So let's say there is a wipe after beta ends. Do we really think this will be the last time NQ make a mistake of this kind, and everything will be perfect after beta? As long as NQ keep focusing on fixing symptomatic problems and not looking at the larger picture, stuff like this will keep happening.
  9. True. The game is supposed to have six equal functional pillars. But if one had to choose one pillar to be above the others. Looking at the game technology and how it is structured, it would obviously be voxel building.
  10. Applying for StarBase alpha as we speak..
  11. Even if it there was some specific way (please show me) for new players to 'easily' get decent progress without running the mining gantlet, after 0.23 the entire premise of the game is broken. Remember, the initial promise was: And 0.23 is the complete antithesis of this.
  12. If NQ are making the programmers do 3D modelling, it explains a lot. Not only why even simple design changes seem to take so much time (people having to switch tasks), but also the gigantic and clunky looking furniture and overall boring/simplistic design of elements. It is very telling when players can make better looking furniture using voxelmancy and all it's inherent limitations, then NQ can do with total freedom and proper 3D mesh modelling tools. And the sad thing is, if NQ truly was the progressive community driven company they tried to portrait in the beginning. They would have turned element/furniture design into a community competition. I bet lots of players would have put their heart and soul (and countless hours) into making elements for free, just for the bragging rights of having them become an official part of the game.
  13. Back in the pre-alpha days the forums used to be very positive. Almost to much so, with hardly anyone asking hard questions or wanting to face certain facts. The overall negative vibe we have today is the fault of NQ, and nobody else. And on the topic of overly positive forums. I do remember noticing back then how NQ had a tendency to only invite vocal YES people to the ATV, and thinking to myself how such a skewed view would not lead to productive and realistic testing.
  14. Same here. As a backer I feel that over the years I have gotten my money's worth play testing (the 9999 era was golden), and lots of entertainment value just from watching and commenting on NQ stumbling along. But.. I would never even consider paying subs for the current game.
  15. There is no spoon.
  16. Shuttle lands on the Sanctuary market with the same number as the District number. So take shuttle back to District and teleport to the district with the number matching the sanctuary market closest to your ship.
  17. The overall number one problem, is that the game is far from finished. The rest is just NQ desperately trying to make the game appear more then it is, in ways that require as little dev time as possible.
  18. So this new player with hardly any funds and a newb speeder only is going to. - buy goods from markets - transport said goods to markets on other planets, usually outside the safezone - Build a factory - buy a territory scanner That is going to take forever without first having to do lots of mining to get the funds to scale up to something sensible and being able to afford crashes etc.
  19. Nope, no kind of ore respawning and all landscape changes are permanent. Hence the Swiss cheese reference. NQ claimed it would take years to mine even a small fraction of the ore, but reality seem to have shown otherwise. Especially on some of the outer planets and moons.
  20. Quote from the kickstarter. So the problem isn't that players are trying to force the game into something else, and more that the DU roadmap is changing into something that looks less and less like what was promised.
  21. LUA scripts must be able to detect people entering and leaving the script activation zone and perform predefined actions depending on RDMS. This is fundamental functionality requires for them to work at all in a MMO. So unless there is some script jailbreak exploit (not what we are talking about here, and there are no known exploits to my knowledge) to run unsanctioned code on the client pc, there is nothing to worry about. You average web page will run a metric buttload of javascripts and trackers that are much more scary then this will ever be, with access to your physical location (closest internet access node/GPS) and RL information. All thanks to big companies like google, facebook etc. that make you give out this information voluntary to access some kind of 'free' service..
  22. All current markets are owned by NQ, so it falls on NQ to police them. Once we get player driven markets, I assume that we also get the tools need to dictate how to run them (yeah I know, but one can hope..).
  23. And here is what NQ replied. Are they really this far removed from actual game play, that they think this is a good change that will help single players? Nerfing industry and mining was an inconvenience for large orgs, but for single players it is catastrophic. Single players are now unable to build the industry needed to be self sufficient and have the resources to explore other aspects of the game. And as a result are now stuck doing mining and nothing else just to get by with the bare essentials. This did not help single players, it destroyed the game for single players..
  24. Anything left on the market pad for more then 24h is clutter.
  25. The 'aerodynamics' in DU aren't that hard, in fact they are much more forgiving then reality. But having RL experience with aerodynamics you have probably fallen in the same trap I did which is to expect RL behavior from the game. But DU 'aerodynamics' is nothing like RL, so you have to game the system instead of trying to make actual airworthy designs. It sucks I know, but it is was it is..
