You guys don't get to decide, but the actual, post-launch crowd.

But I guess if General "The Seriose Bizunos" Immersitron asks a lot, I bet NQ will go "you know what, we could use the added revenue of selling Hello Kitty stickers to hire more people on our dev team and launch expansions every 4 months instead of 6, but I guess we should respect General Immersitron's RP that is 5% of the playerbase and give the finger to 95% of the people who don't care about what other people wear on their person".

You want NQ to have room to add more features in its expansions and launch them faster, or you want no Hello Kitty stickers? It's one of the two. you can't have both.

Welcome to the real world kids and manchildren, where revenue is essential for living. It's part of the whole "salary" thing.

Cosmetic shops are not pay-2-win so NQ has the right to add whatever they want on it. Your immersion means ZERO. I know some of you hate the idea of people deviating from your perceived status quo, but like in your real life, you will have to accept that people are not like you, you'll have to ACCEPT people wanting to look hilarious as of their color combinations and that some, maybe actually wear Hello Kitty as a brand on their person. But unlike the real world, you can unleash your inner fashion fascist and lynchmob those people in a videogame enviroment. Some of the people in this as well as the other thread I am certain at 100% that they would beat the lights out of goths, punks, hipsters and trendy people IRL, just because they don't wear they are not uniform like them - that's what a fashion fascist is. But hey, this is a sandbox, and some of  you just go about asking to be perma-griefed.

This thread, as well as the other one, shows why I love triggering you fascists of fashion and why NQ will add Hello Kitty stickers, as Hello Kitty as a brand is there to trigger you fashion fascists.

    Bring it on.

Deal with it, you won't fly solo a battleship. It goes against the nature of the game.

The only people who want this, are pirates, like some of my fellow BOObians. And, no, it's not because of "oh pirates be pirates arrrrr, they be wanting to fly battleships to gank smaller ships arrrrrr", it's because they are pirates and would rather gank up to one guy who can't fend off a boarding party and keep fighting other ships, so they can win far easier.

Also, you assume turrets are simulated on their projectiles. They are not. It's a hit chance, based on geometrical measurements and velocites. Players on Turrets only affect those chances with tiher timing and skill training and the pilot affects their chances by knowing how to position the ship in regards to a hostile (travellign at the same direction, at the same angle to another ship, means you got no moving penalty on hit chance).

How do I know that? They spoke of it in the Kickstarter updates about CvC combat.

    And speaking of Kickasterter information...

Their Kickstarter video is also talking of living the battle from within a ship as an engineer. Your very IDEA, is killing off the biggest part of the game, the multicrew ships, not to mention you piss in the face of the Lore the devs have as of why AI is not part of the universe and why manual control is needed.

And yes, having "one guy shooting the guns and everyone else are their healer bitches" is what your mentality still devolves into.

You want to command a battleship? Get in good graces with people and learn to be a team leader. You won't farm the resources for a battleship alone, you won't be buying a battleship on your own and you won't be crewing a battleship by yourself.
A good chunk of your thread is the EVE cancer of "you are not a player in a fleet, you are a human drone waiting for the FC to tell you "hit that" . That's what One Man Ships come down to in EVE. And anyone who's here from EVE, do not want DU to be EVE 2.0., cause EVE's pvp system, is atrocious cause of that.

So, you want a system that :

    1) removes player roles from the game.

    2) relegates crew positions as "the healer bitches"

    3) multicrew gameplay is only part of mining - which I guess you also need to be automated, cause you ain't gonna mine the battleship materials otherwise.

    4) you assume teamwork and conditioning is the same. Cause the EVE system of "fleet of solo man ships, coordinate" is out right EVE's model, only 1000 times worse cause of the depleting resources. You just rob people off materials and make small ships obsolete or "ghetto ships"., meant for poor people who can't afford paying in DACs to buy those battleships, hence, the game is P2W, or a grindfest that shames Korean MMOs.

    Cheers.

P.S. : You play an MMO, not a session shooter like War Thunder. Accept the fact it's a team game and you won't be doing a team's job on your own.

P.S. #2 : NQ needs to comment on this and put the nail on the coffin of automation on turrets.

    Hi everyone!

This is an interesting topic and we have to discuss it in the team.
At the moment, it is not planned to change the DAC from the monthly token version to a more fragmented version.
We will keep you informed as soon as we will have discussed about it (and of course all the community feedback will be taken into account)

elDunco reacted to Anaximander in Taking loot to the cleaners
Well, having to "drill" open a container for loot, is a logical step to have to maintain some semblance of order. Having a lock and key on shoes is an overkill. What? Do those fine leather boots have SpaceMagic Enchantments on them and are Soulbound? Then there's the other issue you people are so short-sighted over. If you run low on ammo or your weapon breaks in combat, you should be able to loot and use a gun. Unless we all live in the Metal Gear Solid universe and nanomachines are the explanation to everything. And if nanomachines are the explanation for everything, I'll be expecting Nanomachine Spacemagic in-game, or "brain-hacking". I mean, it's the least weird thing in Metal Gear Solid, in between plant-like psychic snipers and giant mechas.

Having an RDMS "impregnable" tag on containers and nanopacks, makes sense. Having the things INSIDE a container be impossible to loot and use, is the actual overkill.

You steal a safe, get it somewhere you won't be interrupted, drill it open, you get the gold. You don't have to drill a lock on the gold to use it. Cause you know people will abuse the "RDMS on every item in the game". Why go be a pirate and loot when you'll need to do the exact same "disenchantment" on eery single item you come across? Stealing is supposed to be the "easy thing to do but amoral". If stealing something takes the same or MORE steps than crafting or manufacturing, then something's wrong with the feature altogether.

Why bother with "disenchanting" or "washing" 100000 items a freighter carries? Are you stupid? Just blow it up and watch the nerd spacetrucekr cry his eyeballs out over his blown-to-smithereens ship. You went pirate to avoid crafting for hours or days, you ain't got time for 100000 items being "washed". Just blow the freighter and tell the freighter "Good Fight", despite them having no guns on their ship. You don't care. You could have extorted them to drop cargo and leave, but since you don't want to spend 100000 items multiplied by "disenchanting" timer long to resell them, or use them, you might as well blow them up.

    See the problem now ???

I'll be reserving a judgment on this, since NQ answered already on the RDMS thread over it being a "the mechanic so far" kind of situation and that they improve on it. I voiced my concerns there on the RDMS thread and here. You got to see the game from the perpsective of pirates and thieves and that those players do it cause it's easy, not because it's hard (kinda reverse JFK there). But the logic " have every item require "cleaning" ", is not a viable option, period.

I'm thinking that for storage containers we should be able to move the containers and not have them be static pieces on our ships/constructs. Perhaps they could be on hover-capable pallets or dollys allowing the player to move them one at a time with our nano-former. I feel like it would make storage more practical than the more common style of static storage containers. With static containers you would essentially be unloading the cargo into your inventory and then walking the items to the next storage unit. Non-static containers would allow the loading of a cargo bay/warehouse and give off a more immersive feel.

    Any thoughts?

Since there are no such thing as buildings and ships in DU, only constructs, nothing prevents you from creating a very small construct with container and hover element on it and call it a "hover-pallet".

I like the idea, and hope it is possible "out of the box" in DU.

Well, given the game actively sports anti-gravity technology, just have Gravity Guns ala Half Life 2 and use them to haul equipment, tie them to a skill training that can lead to Tractor Beams / Webifiers, and you got a Cargo Loader job for people to make money or role call into in a group.

But I think it would be nice to have something that dose that without having to be a construct. It would be smaller and easier to use.

For example you would not need to push it around my running into it. Instead you could press a button and your charter would actually put there hands on it to push it around.

elDunco reacted to Anaximander in Furry Dual Universe players?
No, no it doesn't count. Bronies are no different than people who collect Power Rangers figures and watch all the seasons of the show. Furries are a whole new classs of "...what" on their own.

Funny story to illustrate my point.

Once in the town I attended university, there was a furry party going, the first in the city back then. I was unaware of it being that same night I was out. So, as I am returning home, on that friday night, having drunk a bit more than usual, two guys try to mug me. At that moment, unbeknownst to me, three guys come out of the nearby alley behind me, ones only the aspiring thugs could only see. Those guys were dressed in full on furry costumes, dressed as some weird WTF-wolf creature. Now, think about it. Dark alley, you see three tall figures with pointy ears, sounds heavy (cause of the masks they wear) and it's a full moon night.

    But no, wait, there's more.

Those thugs start backpeddaling because ... three humanoid wolf-creatures came out of the dark alley.m making what seems to sound guttural noises. But even more as a cruel twist of irony, those 3 furries were meeting up with some local friends of theirs to head to the party the same night, so they took a detour through those alleys. As the thugs start going away, furry group B shows up heading our way from the direction the thugs were backpeddaling towards. Never seen thugs - with knives mind you - climb up a chain-link fence as fast as they did, into a building project going on nearby and cutting through it to the main road.

So yeah. Bronies can be made fun of, cause if you see one in a dark alley, you won't think "oh shit, I forgot my silverware at home".

elDunco reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Windows or a way to making voxels transparent
    Hi there,

In the near future, windows will be available under the form of decorative Elements.
However, implementing voxels made from a transparent material, nothing is clear planned at the moment in the roadmap, so if it's implemented, it will be most likely after the official release.

The challenge of making transparent voxels functional enough to use it for windows: Developing this type of materials to the point of being able to make windows of custom size, with a perfect transparency with no blur or deformation when whatching something placed on the other side of the windows is not an easy task. And it will cost a significant amount of development time. So as always, we will concentrate first to core mechanics and mandatory content before starting developing transparent materials that could be used in an industrialized way.

In any case, we will keep you informed about the evolution on this topic when we will have fresh news about it

Why limit ourselves to Latin characters when it's 2017 and we should all be using UTF-8  , then we can have access to every character in pretty much every language on the planet.

I won't link the png here, but I wrote a script a few years ago that converted every character in Unicode Plane 1 (65,536 code points) from a TTF font file to a bitmap file for use in video games. If painting letters is just a matter of applying a specific texture somewhere, then it's not out of the realm of possibility to be able use a similar method to allow for any Unicode Plane 1 character to be used in-game.

I think some decorative letter elements, even if it was just the basic Latin alphabet and some additional diacritic marks, would be extremely useful without having to go through the fiddly process of doing this with voxels.

You want facts from his "imagination" and "theory"? How about being in a large organisation which demands you to fulfill certain tasks in mass PvP, like scanning a system for enemy locations and having people doing logistical work (that being repairs). It's in every MMO out there, try and socialise in one, you will see there are people with certain tasks to help in PvP. An engineering crew is not different that a healer, but I guess you are the main problem in any MMO, the guy who calls healers as "Healbots".

You can fly solo a ship if a person builds it like that, but you won't be operating it as fast as with a proper crew, why? Because you can't be at multiple places at the same time.

    Deal with it.

Also, "facts" are in the DevBlogs, you know, the things you do not bother reading while calling people's based-in-reality comments as "imagination".

No. A million tonne starship is not a starfighter to have a pilot.

A ship actually needs a driver, an Engineering Watch, an Operations Watch, Weapons Watch and a captain, yes, the captain is not on the wheel, the captain is there to coordinate the group.

A Driver is the person that operates the ship's navigation, AKA, a navigator. Self-explanatory.

An Engineering Watch is the person who keeps track of damages, fuel, and coordinates with the actual engineers, while also operating the ship's shields and / or other functions.

An Operations Watch, this is where it gets tricky. This person is the one that keeps track of the battlefield, the one who keeps an eye on the radar and the one that announces if a hit is connecting and if the enemy is doing something that needs to be brought up. Essentially, a second pair of eyes. Also, the "Scanner" if you will, the person who handles the D-Scan and Probe Scan for the entire ship.

A Weapons' Watch is also self explanatory, it's the person that keeps track of the weapons' systems, what battery if blown to bits or not and the person that operates missile launchers (because they don't actually need active tracking, missiles are guided).

A captain is the leader of this "party" on the bridge. They are the one to give the order for power to shields, or full power on the blasters or whatever it may be.

If you are asking if an EVE-style ship capsule ship can be made, I am afraid not. EVE's PvP is the equivalent of driving and texting and in DU, it's gonna end bad for you.

I do not doubt that a person, one day, will have all the skillpoints required to control all the different systems on their own, I do not doubt that one day, someone will rig a ship in a way that it CAN afford a One Person on the Helm approach.

But it won't elimiate the need for a crew, either engineers, marines (boarding is a thing) or even people to pilot the star-fighters, as we all know, battleships can't really fight off enemy star-fighters before they get crippled. Capital ships are good at fighting capital ships.

Now, EVEN if someone designs said One Man on the Helm ship, that needs NO crew, there's NOTHING that will save you, if someone was to go for the bridge of your ship and take you out with a surgical strike. Yes, this is not EVE, your bridge CAN be destroyed along with you.

So all in all, I would throw inan Executive Officer in that bridge, just in case the captain of the ship is in need to log-out in the middle of a fight, the Executive Commander being essentially the First Mate.

You can always go for a bomber, add some stealth cloak, have a gunner, a pilot and an engineer on board for, you know, just in case. But single-man ships won't be a thing - aside from star-fighters - at least, not without suffering MAJOR drawbacks in operational times, something no skill training will actually speed up.

    Cheers.

We'll likely be able to see maybe a moon, or possibly another planet, but beyond that, until somebody makes space travel, no one will have any idea where anything else is. To get out of the system, we'll have to build the stargates.

Honestly, I find it really exciting to have absolutly no clue where any other planets are until we discover it. Imagine. You're one of the first ones to make a spaceship. Others have been looking for Planet #2, but nobody can find it. You're out exploring and stumble upon it. A whole new world, that thousands of others will colonize, mine, and fly to, all because you had the skills(luck?) to find it first. You'll be remembered forever, as the first person to set foot on a new planet. (Aside from whoever gets out of the inevitable rush to log in first and spawn on Alioth.)
