Like every other game, I'm sure there will be a way to block and report players. No need for separate channels.

I think it should take a few weeks to get into space. It should be seen as an accomplishment to leave Alioth. The slower players spread out the more emergent gameplay we'll see.

Why thank you for that clarification.  I didn't understand what you were saying!  ::whew::

So let me re-iterate... it is, and in my opinion... should remain... the DU client.  If we don't have to expend resources to develop content.. it is neither immersive nor emergent.  A couple of 'features' I, and many others, are looking forward to in this particular game.  An external (or somehow protected) client, removes such processes from the game, and protects the 'developers and creators' of such items from the consequences that could come along with attempting to develop such items whether they be buildings, weapons, vehicles or what have you and I absolutely hope that we -never- see such a tool with Dual Universe, and am sure that while there are some that might wish otherwise, the creators of -this- game are wise enough to see would be a BAD thing.

I wouldn't like that very much. DU never was about aliens, it was always advertised as "humanity rebuilds itself". So yeah. No thanks

I haven't read through the entire thread, and I imagine someone has already voiced this opinion... but what the heck

I am 100% against this idea in any shape or format.  Building should require resources and testing.  Being able to freely build without resources in order to get a blueprint seems like a bad game design imho.

Get the resources, design something... if it's bad, have to do another iteration.  Welcome to real world design ^^

Sure, for the alpha we will have unlimited resources to make blueprints.  But the two are not the same.  NQ is giving us unlimited resources to test the game in all capacities, and they are allowing us to keep the blueprints as a thank you.

None of those are Player VS Environment, which is why semantics are important. The versus would imply conflict. What conflict is there in building a casino that isn't player conflict? There aren't any earthquakes you have to build up to code for, there's no acid rain which you have to shield against. Skill training is done over time anyways, there's literally no way it could be construed as vs the environment, or enemy.

There's a NDA in place for us ATV and for every gold+ backer. Period. NQ decides what information they give out, not we as customers.

They have plenty to do now after the ATV test and they have to make sure that everything runs well on saturday - they possibly don't have much time to just write a report for anyone because of the workload.

So maybe people could just chill a little bit and wait if they announce anything AFTER the gold+ backer test.

I really don't know if people noticed but this test on 30th was announced - NO further test. So we get to play on saturday and then we have to wait for the next announcement anyway - and I just make an educated guess here: they will announce the next test plus a short report on how the gold+ backer test went. That's ofc only speculation on my part, but who knows.

I know that everyone is eager and everyone wants information and all go crazy atm BUT please people remember:

    - once you participated on the test on 30th of september you're under NDA and you CAN'T talk about that to anyone
    - give them time: they try their best to make this happen. bombarding them with PMs/questions/wishes on the forum doesn't help them achieving this - it makes things worse
    - think about them and their workload atm - and maybe rethink if you really help them now when you want to know certain things or if you can wait for that piece of info a week or two

But again bitmouse if they find a way around pirates....it will be because the were clever in game....not out game of securing their constructiin /base/ persinnel/resources.
The game requires you to gather resources in order to build.....not build outside of the game and then "port in" your BP.....everything is done in game.
Dual Universe whilst there might be a separate section LATER if they decide its feasable without breaking the dynamics......empasis on considering ALL the implications of such a system before doing so. Whilst you may feel this is important....yes ..its important to you....but not necessarily others.
If however they decide to give you a separate section to build....you will stll be required to log in to the server...(security is important)....this means they have to devote extra people or take them away from existing things....causing issues in other areas or delays to existing things.
To be fair it is pretty pointless at this juncture. You may think its feasable and state how it is....however you do not know enough of whats happening in DU or behind the scenes to be able to judge what is feasable or not and neither do we..however they need to get the main part right before they look at other things.
So lets leave it at that and if they do come out with something....good for you. If not.....enjoy the game how it was meant to be played.

None of what you stated there answers the primary negative impact that it would have, that is for every player spending time messing around in creative zone, that is a player who isn't actually playing the game. They aren't in the world space, they are not contributing to societies, and the only thing they are adding to the world is blueprints.

people are going to be building all the time as it is, blueprints will be everywhere, and having a way to produce blueprints in-game without any access to the material de-values blueprints as a commodity.

by far the most dangerous thing suggested here though is the idea that you would be able to test pvp with multiple players in creative mode. That would badly fracture the player popularion, as the only pvp-minded player left in the actual world then would be pirates and conquerers. All of us folks who want to fight, but who don't take any pleasure in ruining other people's creations would be playing effectively a whole other game in creative instead of bounty hunting or joining a militia.

the backbone of this game is the number of people actually playing it. If you are testing blueprints, you'll need the resources and space to do so. If you are testing military tech, it'll need field tests. That's just what an emergent gameplay environment is all about. If that's exciting to you, join a military tech development org (heck I started one, the Alchemists, and thats exactly what I plan on spending my time doing).

A creative mode would take away from the multiplayer content. There would be too many people spending time in creative mode when they should be interacting with other people.

I absolutely agree that PVP is a key feature in the game, but to say it is the most important feature is an overstatement. It defiantly needs to be present, and its the thing I'm most excited for above all else in DU too (I'm aboslutely jazzed to build military tech).

However, the destructive capability of individual players, and even groups of players, has to be pretty limited for a game to actually build anything that resembles a civilization. If it is too easy to destroy, and too difficult to create, then it would only take a few very destructive players to destroy the work of dozens and cripple entire cities. One of the many reasons we don't see large clans doing large scale battles in Space Engineers (apart from the fact that it would melt the servers) is because of how destructive ramming is. A dirt cheap ship can cripple a large station (built to withstand traditional weapons) just by ramming it at the normal max speed (which is pretty low).

In Eve though, its easy to repair and replace ships. It will be far harder to do so in DU, so for there to be player-built civilizations (as the devs intend) it will have to be harder to destroy than to create, and you can do that in a game.

Anybody who expects they will be able to play around a little, hop into a ship, and play through battle after battle after battle is totally delusional. There will be serious limitations in how many large fleets and large structures can be built in a given time, since it all needs to be made by players. Theoretically there will be a time where ships can be mass-produced in factories, but that will still be much more work and complexity than the click of a button.

I think we'll see that TU's and the ability to set protections and laws will have a serious impact on the number of "murder-hobo" players that'll enjoy the game. There will be parts of the universe that feel a bit more like Rust (where clans are routinely killing off newbies for little-no reson and raiding each other all the time), but those battles will be more like skirmishes and less like the huge wars in EVE.

If I go to one of my town's microbreweries for a beer, and I pay cash as to not get caught up in the $5 minimum, after a reasonable tip (20% plus round up to nearest dollar) it ends up being about $5. I do that just about every week when I'm taking a break from painting miniatures at my friendly local game store.

so yeah, $4 will buy you a really nice craft beer at a brewery, or a pair of pretty decent craft beers if you ate buying 12 packs and breaking it down by unit.

A flat rate of fifteen dollars per month. Either play enough hours and feel satisfied that you got $15 worth of enjoyment out of it, or play fewer hours and feel like it was money wasted. A monthly sub is the price of 4  Caramel Macchiatos or almost a weeks worth of starbucks. Those four drinks can provide you with, oh let's say an hours pleasure if each drink went down in 15 minutes. A sub can give you at most ~720 hours for those of you no-lifers that have no social life, no job, don't sleep, use a bucket for a toilet, and whose diet consists of mt dew and doritos.

Let's look at me personally... Being a modestly healthy person, I try to get eight hours of sleep a day. Boom 1/3rd of my day already gone. Time dedicated to studies, in-class time, working on my distance class homework, homework homework, and transport to and from college, ehhh that's 4 hours a day. Now half a day is gone. I'll be going back to work soon now that summer is over and I'm acclimated to my class schedule, that will be another 3 - 6 hours gone.

Now I'm left with 6 to 9 hours of free time and let's say I dedicate 4 of those hours to DU to set aside the rest for personal care and social life. Let's multiply those hours out over the course of a month and to keep it nice and even, go with 30 days. That's 120 hours per month, 1440 per year.

Is $15 a month,  $180 a year really all that much considering I can get two full months of entertainment over the course of a year?

Considering a lot of the other entertainment choices out there, I don't go to bars personally but I have a friend who spent 200 with some friends at a bar one weekend and guess what. It either went down the toilet or ended up in the trash.

What is $180 to you, two months of meeting a bunch of online people and hanging with your org and doing fun stuff, or is it a bad hangover and a soiled pair of jeans?

Maybe it's a bad comparison, I don't know. If fifteen dollars a month is what you would call a stretch then I, like some have said already, would strongly urge you to reconsider your priorities.

Edit: I got into such a rant I forgot about what I said about the pricing scheme at the start of my post.

While what you have seems like an admirable idea, in hindsight it seems like a bad idea for reasons that have been already mentioned before. I cant endorse it. Keep it simple.

Also this argument is a bit of a hair-splitting fest.

Willing to pay to play for a period of time, but not willing to shell out for the price for a full month... There is no way the monthly sub is so expensive that it warrants alternative/smaller options. Either the game is worth its full fee or its not, fortunately once the game is actually released, a player would only need to "waste" 1 month's fee to discover that the game isn't something they like.

In this case though, the monthly fee is about as much as a Magic the Gathering player spends in a *week* drafting. This is about the cost of going to the shooting range once for a short session if you add in the cost of ammunition. This is the price of 1 decent meal at a restaurant, or an OK meal if you are drinking. This is about the cost of seeing 2 movies, or 1 movie and snacks at a theater.

Consider that so many leisure activities cost this amount in 1 session, but this fee pays for the full month. Even if you only play 1 weekend session per-week, that's 4x the entertainment-hours-per-dollar as those activities listed above.

I'd say we've exhausted this topic by now.

Liek with the other threads, matey, you didn't bother looking uip if NQ has replied on this.

They don't want a cosmetic shop. The DAC system is more than enough to generate extra revenue.

Also, Player Studio for Everquest 2 and Planetside 2 ruined the games as of performance. You know, 1 billion different meshes means 1 billion different system + memroy calls.

Also, I get that you are not a gamer, and that you have zero  context of why these ideas are bad given the COUNTLESS times they were implemented and failed, but saying "modding for an MMO iun a single-shard" is like saying "HEY, LET'S MAKE THE GAME CLIENT 100 TERABYTES BIG! IT WILL BE FUN GUYS! POPPING TEXTURES AND 1 HOUR LOADING SCREENS ARE NICE!!! "

Also, on the "Subscription" model you expressed... you seem to not have EVER used a subscription model. Your "6X hours, 2 months to use it for 60 USD a year" is the epitomy of what's wrong with you F2P crowd. 60 USD at the current model gets you 6 months of unlimited play. 6 Months, no limits on hours.

You could rname this post "Soup of all the Monetisation Plans for MMOS that lead the game to F2P death, All in One Thread!"

Also, let me introduce you to the world of money - or why you should do research on what you speak of.

Call of Duty is an annual franchise, with Season Pass - that not many pass over (puns) . That brings the game up to (or around to) 100 USD - 120 USD in price. If you buy the Expansions seperately, you will pay 110 USD to 130 USD.

Remember, this is an annual franchise, people buy it annually to get the next piece of regurgitated crap Infinity Ward puts out with Activision's blessing.

So, if Call of Duty was a "free to try, subscription to play game with free expansions" but the same price range... it would come down to 10 USD a month subscription (120 USD a year).

That's DU. A "free to try, subscription to play game with free expansions". I know, shocking, DU costs like a Triple-A title every six months? How dare they create a unique idea of a game and want to make a profit out of it. They should be happy with starving to death.

One month of the game costs 13 USD to play (10 USD if you buy in bulk). That's 3 cups out of Starbucks that will last you for 5 hours tops in total?  You mean to tell me that the "13 USD sub" is not something people can afford... but a 20 USD costume for their in-game character is something they will afford?

Also, your VR Tourism idea is known as "TwitchTV".

All in all, this thread is a nice Subscription / F2P thread disguised to look as a cash shop "whale hunt" suggestion.

    Final Score on the Thread:

    9 / 10 for effort and write-up.

8 / 10 for delaying the hot topic most of the thought process went to for the sublatteral part of the post (Partial Subscription that makes no sense when you scale it to the current price range of subscriptions O_o ?! ).

1 / 10 for fact checking or knowing how monetisation works in any video game.

    Cheerios to you sir.
