  1. Oh come on Neo. We have all thought about it. After all, who doesn't want a Cinderfall palace where all of us could reign upon mere mortals from the power of.... I'm getting ahead of myself. Flying cities would theoretically be possible. In the early stages of the game, they might be very easy to create. However, I imagine the devs will put implementations against creating any flying city. I still want to try it, but maybe with a bit more of a limitation onto what can be done. Although, I would be interested in creating floating cities on planets with less gravity. That sounds a bit more feasible and fun.
  2. Simple! Ship communication would make sense using LUA code. That rednet example there is a very simple thing to do, and most pople who know lua know how to do it. So then, use it! LUA is already a heavy element in Dual Universe. Using it to hail the ships and send contact codes is the best option in my opinion. As well, it allows programs to be run depending on the signal made. You could initiate production on an assembly line using stuff like this. Therefor, it would only make sense to have it. The devs probably already do have it infact. However, for user friendliness, for much of the communication, you'll probably be able to get away with a built-in system by the devs.
  3. But the thing is, we don't have any money once we back the kickstarter. We all love it so much is why! Yeah. The DUA is on a budget now.
  4. As well, it can be noted in an interview yamamushi did with JC at pax, one of the questions that was asked was, "Will planet's regenerate? Or the zone around the Arkship?". The answer to this question was planets would not regenerate, however Arkship zones might be. However, he did not say there was a for sure answer on the arkship zones, so it could go either way. It's probably going to be up to the alpha testers.

    Cities

Yes. Just as we know that objects in the game that are sold have physical space, which means you have to pick it up or have it delivered, I assume blueprints and scripts will have physical space as well. However, I do imagine that there are some limitations that make it so that a person can not duplicate a blueprint if they just bought it. If they can, it means you have to buy the construct instead of the blueprint. Onto cities though. I imagine there will be many, great powerful cities. We know a lot of them will reside on Alioth. These will probably be ones started by the main factions and experienced players in the beginning.
  6. Indeed. Servers aren't some magical item that can run anything, just like our computers. Depending on how each voxel construct updates, it's performance, and the tasks it performs, it will affect the server differently. So, we can't simply just state that "yeah, microvoxels would be cool". We need to add the process of figuring out the impact on the server, deciding what these should be used for, and so on. Each game has a development process. For DU, it's coming up with the ideas and systems, seeing if it's possible to create them, and then figuring out if they can handle them. They come up with so much stuff, but do you know how much stuff they've had to get rid of because it wouldn't be feasible? Not just server side, but client side. Every client will be more taxed the more stuff you throw at it. What would Microvoxels add to that stress? The answer is, they are possible to implement. They would probably have to be restricted, but you could implement them. However, I'd rather see the game be here sooner and in a better playing state. Not to mention, I feel that already, we'll have the tools we need to create what we want. It's cool to have extra, but how many till we've reached a point where it's just not worth it.
  7. I think there's a idea here, but what can we do with that idea now? Voxels are volumetric objects. What games that feature building do is allow us to strap a bunch of those voxels together in order to make a functioning construct. Now, we know core units will cost enough to make, so that it will be a deterrent to use one unwisely. However, microvoxels are another construct and could take up more server resources depending on what they are used for. Let's say someone creates a massive ship out of microvoxels. It'd be cool, but depending on things, could increase the performance impact on the server. By how much though? Creating microvoxels is a good idea, but the implications of it are what needs discussed here. We also need to know how the server performs normally, then allow a decision of whether or not microvoxels would work. I think the server could handle them, but we aren't sure of all the implications.
  8. Welcome to the forums. Glad to have you here. And yes, you will be able to play Dual Universe as it releases in 2018. Glad you could be here.
  9. Well, nice to see you on the forums AngryPeas. Can't remember exactly where I've seen you from, but it's nice to have a fellow like you on the board. Welcome to Dual Universe.
  10. Welcome to the forum. Feel free to browse around. As well, the kickstarter was released, so go check that out as well. Man, there's so much to update new people with on the forums nowadays.
  11. Welcome to the forums! You have no idea how happy I am to once again see a welcome thread. Been a while. Alpha looks to be out February or around that time, so you don't have too long to wait. As for your purchase status, you'll probably be able to connect it once the kickstarter is successful and they give you the ability. Once again, Welcome!
  12. Shut up and take my money... of wait. You already did :)

  13. I would also like to thank my current members for the contribution they have made. Specifically, the ones who have been active on the DUA and on the forums. As well, because of how well they have done, the DUA now has three alpha members, including myself. So, special thanks to: Dominar The War Doctor You both have helped out greatly. The Alpha Member title is deserving of both of you.
  14. Well, there was an idea of decay discussed by me and the people on DUExplores during episode 10. We basically said it would be a good idea if that, if someone didn't maintain their stuff. it could mean that if you created a plan to cause a person to be unable to maintain for some reason, their construct could be more vulnerable and eventually, it could be destroyed. Maybe, instead though, an option would be securing it and making it your own. We go into more detailed ideas in the video itself. Yep. Death stars are unlikely. Not to mention, getting weapons that strong could never happen. Unless, NovaQuark released content specifically for that purpose. To be specific, "Chaos Expansion". Although, planet destroying still probably wouldn't be possible. Sorry
  15. If you want information, DUExplorers has a lot of new information out in episode 10. Listen to it here: We did an interview with JC. A lot of good information was in there.
  16. Actually, there won't even be vendor. As stated with my discussions within DUExplorers, venders early on in the game will be artificial players who don't even have a player character. When you go a market(I am assuming the Arkship Market), there will be AI that are either looking to buy or sell. Players can sell to that AI to earn credits or buy from that AI to earn credits. It's a simple system that ends up making it possible to put credits into the economy. So, there are no vendors per say. Just AI looking to buy or sell. You can't see them or interact with them directly. They are essentially just there to make the market usable. See DUExplorers here for more information: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/907-dual-universe-explorers-weekly-fanmade-roundtable-on-twitch/ Source is in episode 10.
  17. IN another short answer, no one can know. It's not up to Novaquark most of the time to tell people if they can play that game depending on what country they are in. Infact, they probably want people from all the countries they can get. The only problem is what countries tolerate. One of them is probably Turkey. They have blocked Youtube, Twitter, Imgur, Facebook and many other sites for a period of time. Of course, they can't make up their mind and frequently block and unblock the aforementioned sites. That's not the problem though. Turkey has blocked many games as well, including Minecraft.... yes Minecraft was debated to be blocked back last year to it being too violent. Also Steam was blocked in Turkey. It's not NovaQuark, although they may choose to block some outlets to avoid controversy. It's mostly the countries themselves.
  18. Seems we dug up another old topic. So, let's get things straight. Coders and builders will have to work together in order to successfully build ships that function well. They may not have to for smaller ships, but for things that really matter, they will. It's a simple matter of fact that coding and building will be two things that go together. We need some scripts in order to run this construct. So, instead of of having to code after the build is done, it would be wiser to use coders to write scripts while the building is taking place. As well GrandMasterApex, you are correct. Coders will be competing to code bigger and better projects. The most skilled coders will code the most massive constructs and cost the most to hire. Coding is a valuable skill that not everyone picks up. As well, newbie coders will also have a source of income. Many smaller organizations will probably need someone to code ships for them, so they may be able to to charge for these projects, build up their reputation and then work their way up. It's a simple process that every level of coder will be able to take part of.
  19. Well well well. This is why you don't boast about your status until you double check, triple check, lock the back doors, make sure you turn the oven off, and then walk the dog. Or, shall I say, you probably shouldn't brag at all. I'm just joking of course. But you probably should have checked again. The TU merged with Hammer and Frog Swarm appeared out of nowhere. Really, it's quite the surprise.
  20. I do agree that from an IT perspective, not too much changes. Infact, processes that are used for DU server maintenance, are probably the same maintenance routines that Google uses. Infact, IT maintenance doesn't change much at all. Ever. All it is is just professionals going in, taking a look at the servers and applying maintenance to the servers that are having problems. They could decide to schedual a time that they need to go in and take a look at these things, or they might not even have to do that, except for updates and larger maintenance.
  21. Well, allow me to begin a new motion. It is called an examination of my desk. It goes like this: I take my head and put it in an upright position. After that, I quickly extend my head down to observe the desk. Then, I do not stop my quick observation of the desk and full on ram my face into the desk, causing a face-to desk collision. I repeat this process until I can no longer tell which component is the desk.
  22. I think this describes itself. While it could be interesting to be known as the first person, simply finding a planet is already going to be quite an achievement. I think it'd just be nice to see how the planet is colonized rather than who discovered it first. It'd be more interesting to see the structures and cities built on that planet and find out the organizations that own them rather than know the name of the first one who found it.
  23. Today for you all, I have a post. Why this is a preview of the DUA Post that I will be doing. The DUA Post is a preview of the government. Here, I give a brief overview of what I'm about to show, then give you a mockup image describing it all. So, for today we will do the Military Corps. The Military Corps is a Categorization Branch of the DUA. Basicly, any organizations that can be categorized into this branch will have such done. Now, what this means is that Members of the DUA who have enough experience and are showing themselves as capable individuals can create their own Unit within the Military Corps. Of course, being the Military Corps means that it's an official branch of the DUA, but what does that mean for you. Simply put, it means that this branch receives top priority for research, training and supplies. As you can see, the Military Corps are a great place to join into the DUA. You get training, supplies, and a whole lot more. It's really meant to serve as one of the DUAs main priorities. For more DUA-Posts, go look over on the community page!
  24. You are correct mostly. Stargates, depending on what laws of physics go behind them, might be able to transfer information through them. Assuming stargates will also transfer electromagnetic fields, it would also mean that information would be transfered through them. Maybe. Still though, it makes sense for it to just be instant.
  25. If they take the lazy way out after the for the beta, I will be severely disappointed. I want planetary timezones! Just to confuse people more, it would be worth it.
