Comrademoco got a reaction from Dreamstar in pondering some aesthetics
Even seen the futuristic buildings in Dubai???

Them things are so gorgeous! If the times lets me, in the future that is, I am so looking forward to build a city like such...

Or rather something like the city in TomorrowLand.

As for interiors for ships... something green, (plants, trees, water) always makes it more 'home-ie'.

Comrademoco reacted to Dreamstar in DevBlog: Resurrection Node Mechanics
Going back to review the plausibility of a resurrection node. I was actually woken up today, may 25th, by this thought.

It's possible the universe doesnt care too much about you being alive or being dead. and that the RN is able to present an argument to the fabric of time space saying "Hey that person isnt dead they've been standing right here." Taking only the energy to produce a wave strong enough to counter argue the universe.

The universe attempting to keep its substance unified, just goes "Oh, my mistake" and will begin to recreate you from the most recent point it thought you were alive. Resulting in you being "Respawned" on the RN pad.

Think of it like a puddle of water, and something causes a ripple, this event was your death. This machine the RN says these ripples arent true producing a counter ripple that negates the death ripple from its location. And thus causes you to ressurect on the pad.

If a principle that all matter exists everywhere, but is awaiting input from a stronger force, probably time, location, and quantity. I suggest that when the machine makes the argument you never died and the universe goes "Ok, lets see." It performs its checks to see if you already exist in order to prevent a single line paradox, because if you did exist, it would probably make a fork in the road producing a parralell universe instead of breaking an already existing timeline.

If you were dead, it would make a bridge gap between whatever point it thought you were alive at, and the time that the machine is saying you are alive now. Bringing someone back from a long time ago may not be possible due to some kind of degradation of signal or the initial Death Wave is too far away for the Negation Wave to ever catch up, or even that the death wave already moved through the entire puddle and there isnt anything to Negate anymore. Or bringing someone from very far away for a similar purpose of wave degredation.

The difference between say, the machine being told to recreate a broken ship, and recreate you, is that the universe knows that the iron exists somewhere else already, but when it checks for your consciousness and doesnt find it, it thinks  it has messed up and then attempts to correct itself to prevent a rip in the timeline.
I would ask a theoretical physicist for an opinion. or someone with a good understanding of math. If someone is really interested in making the RN work as realistically as possible.

    Hello Everyone,

Comrademoco here, just wanted to stop-by and introduce myself, give a little background on who I am, maybe about my gaming community/guild and how I came across Dual Universe, might be a long intro... lol sorry!

    About Me
My gaming life started around when I was about 6 or somewhere around there, back when the PS2 was the thing and GTA: San Andreas was the thing as well. From there on, my gaming life grew and grew, until the point where I found myself gaming, not only in my PS2 but in an old Computer. Couple years later I moved into creating my own Personal Gaming Computer, which I've grown to love and care for, and after 3 years of using it, it still works like a charm!!!

Now I got into many mmos, under different names and what not. Soon I realized that I needed my own gaming name, and thus, the gaming tag "Comrademoco" came about. Years have passed and I still run about that name.

Now I play several, not a lot, but several MMO's like; STO, SWTOR, LoL, War Thunder, EvE Online amongst others, but this also includes single non-mmo games like Civilization and Rome Total War.

    My Gaming Community
I am a big player of STO, this led me to create a fleet with-in the universe of players like me, who shared the goal of; "Having fun in a safe gaming environment" During the years there, such fleet grew and grew to the point of becoming a large and possibly one of the Primary fleets within STO... however, this did not satisfy the part of the goal "gaming environment" thus leading me to the foundation of "Borg Defiants Gaming" an international gaming community that currently spands between several games, and is currently looking to expand to more games... I currently serve as the Content Manager and Community Manager for all communities under "Borg Defiants Gaming"

    Dual Universe
I came across Dual Universe, when I was in the mists of getting bored with some of the games I play, at that time it was "STO" that I was playing... I just totally got bored, and decided to look for games that met this criteria:

    1. Space
    2. TRUE exploration
    3. TRUE sandbox/single shard
    4. Ability to create own ships

With those goals in mind, I set for a course to the never ending land of.... Google.... Hehe and after a few hours, I came across a list of some "Top 10 upcoming space MMOs" I clicked on the link, and I read on the author's ramblings, sorting through the games, non of which appealed to me what so ever, but alas, I came across number 10.... Dual Universe. I read the info on the game, and its drew my attention. (To which this day I don't understand why it was number 10) And so I came to the website. Long story short... I read every... single... blog the devs have put up, and every single area of the website, this.... led me to, as one of my comments in one of the blogs... "Drool" over the game...

Overall I look forward to the games development and full launch and hope I can become part of it, via supporting it and playing it!!!

Also, dont forget about mobile nodes. I do plan to have one installed in my ship, for sole purpose of exploring.

In regards to bounty hunting, say I have a 1M credit bounty on my head, the bounty hunter can get a notification that I have a nearby node on my ship, giving him the option to target that 1st then proceed with the bounty.. This will allow, as you guys have mention... Increase the effectiveness of bounties.

I think the devs want to make sure that nodes can't be used for teleporting about, which is a valid concern.  But it could be that "your" nearest node is simply the nearest node to you that you have been given the tag for (which may also have a duty on it, like a flat or regular fee).  I think that would be a good balance.  You wouldn't want to give out the power to use a single node to too many people as if someone dies it will need to charge up again before you can use it (and then you will be teleported to a further node if you die before it is re-charged).

I really like the implications of this, because it means organisations will want to set up lots of them for their people, or there may even be "Resurrection Node Rental" corporations.

I actually wouldn't mind potentially losing your position when exploring far from home.  It makes the game universe bigger and the risk/reward of deep exploration greater.

This also makes me think of the possibilities of coding some AI at starting points, home planets...
Heavily secured areas sort to say, that recognize, the highest bounties and block access to that player. In the sense that they get refused service, higher tax rates, refusage to dock at stations, not being clear to land on planets, even the possibility of AI kill on sight. Something a long the lines saffi mentioned.

Comrademoco got a reaction from Astrov in Avatar model questions
One question or idea that can be thrown in to avatar model questions above is the "ageing - injury" concept.

In regards to ageing, the longer (time related) a player stays away from the resurrection node, the more age the avatar gets. This can be reversed via 2 ways...

    1. Death/Resurrection, when resurected the avatar model returns to that 'young' look.
    2. Medical areas, regeneration pods etc.

In regards to ingury, say an explosion from a space battle that causes the loss of an eye, finger, leg, arm, would affect the player. Cybernegic implants can be utilized here too, to alter the look of the avatar model or enhance certain skills for the player. I feel that this would add a lot more realism and that survivalist feel to DU.

Also, would there be a difference in the abilities of the different body models? For example, would a tall person be able to run faster, or a small body be able to crawl into a smaller space that a larger person couldn't?

Comrademoco reacted to Dreamstar in Radials for communication
Many of the growing community here have been talking and thinking about how to communicate with our teams quickly.
The idea of voicechat is great, but complicated.

Not yet knowing how groups may or may not work makes it difficult to formulate this concept. Either way, If there was an option to hold down a button, maybe the letter T on the keyboard, causing a radial menu to appear at the mouse with a few options that you pick to put on the radial hotbar.

The functionality could be altered in several ways, depending on whats realistic to implement into the game.
Spatial chat only Party chat, (i.e. 5 man group) Raid chat Prompt pre-recorded voice the developers put in to speak. Just an example : Jim the Industrialist/ Builder repair man is down in the guts of the ship trying to fix parts as everything is blowing up.
He might be in a random pick up group. or with friends. Maybe their Teamspeak server went down. Everything is going bad. He pushes T and mouses over "Reactor Critical" and clicks. In his group chat an automated message shows up -Reactor Critical, Abandon ship!" which could or not prompt a voice command to the group with a similar message.
Jim also usually joins group as a repairman, so he set his hotbar up to include messages related to ship parts, Engines Down, Hyperdrive Down, Reactor Critical, et cetera.

Allowing players to put in their own text is a double edged sword I would personally stay away from.
Would likely need input delays / cooldown timers to prevent abuse / spam.
A possible advantage of a system like this, is that with a single game world, I believe there will be many Players, French most likely, Germans, Americans, Russians, Japanese, and so forth; Messages could be written in many languages so if a silly american like me can only talk like a baby in french, at the very least I will click Reactor Critical and it could show R?acteur Critique for the person with French set at their primary language.

Comrademoco got a reaction from Dreamstar in In game chat-box Avatar
This idea does follow the same concept Eve Online took.

While it is a good idea, from my personal experience, the avatar displays on the chat... weren't all that, important, for lack of better word... however, something along the lines of displaying the character's look or face when opening a "View Character Stats" would be much better imo.  This however doesn't necessarily follow the "in game avatar on chat" but it does follow the same concept.

This also draws my attention to "bounties" on players, I'm sure that in Dual Universe will greatly implement this, being able to see a players avatar on the 'Bounty' HUD or Viewscreen of a ship, can add a layer of realism...

Anyways, I feel like I'm going off topic... but to cap, avatars on chat box (from my experience in Eve) isn't all that... intriguing.  Maybe clicking on the character name and brining that "character stat" window I mentioned earlier.

Let's just see how that goes after launch...

    Hi Comrademoco,

Yes, the spambots seem to have increased significantly their activity on Sunday.
Fortunately, we have take some primary measures today that should keep them at bay.
A fix is also already in progress to include many of the things you have mentioned above.
(it was already planned on Friday but, it takes time to implement it properly)

The spambots were not suppressed immediately precisely to gather data about their behavior.
Now that we have enough data, all their accounts will be deleted soon.

Thanks for your patience on this matter!

hehe, seem like the spambot doesn't want to go away. If I may suggest a couple things to alleviate the problem.

(Can't remember if this is on already) Turn on Email Verification - send a code to the email which the user MUST use to log in into the forums (if possible) I've seen a couple of "Guest" profiles. Turn that ability off Have multiple user groups, by this I mean, after the user has verify the email address he/she is moved to a group (human verification group) Add some Q&A verification process (I've seen some forums do this) don't allow users to start new threads until they've reached X days registered, verify email, have X posts or don't allow posting after X amount of days or user has verified email. Block the ability for users to start threads in the "Rules and Announcement" area or block thread starting for users in sections in which NQ staff will only be starting threads. For the current registered spambots.
Re-force user email verification If all spambot accounts are using the same IP address, (might not resolve the issue) but block the IP address\ Move all current "Spamming" accounts to a "Quarantine" group that removes posting abilities. Don't delete account as they can be use to find the proper IP address of the spam bot. If the spam accounts are using a same domain email address block that domain Lastly, ban the accounts Might also want to close registration for the time being.

Hopefully this can help get rid of the spambot.

And about having volunteer moderators, there will be a few open positions as soon as the community grows to a certain size.

Comrademoco reacted to PetdCat in How do you see the "Guild" concept today?
I think that what we are seeing is an evolution of Guilds as society has changed.   There was a time when Guilds were basically there for people to get together and complete group content (like Raids) without having to deal with a PUG (Pick Up Group).  You would always be working with the same group of people, you could be assured of the correct group make-up--when the Trinity was everything--and there were rules for the distribution of goodies.

I think MMO communities have become more social, so the Guildspace has fragmented into Raid Guilds, Social Guilds, RP Guilds, Crafting Guilds, PvP Guilds, Enjoys YouTube Cat Guilds, and they all pretty much only deal with other like minded guilds.  A good part of this fragmentation I believe is due to the movement away from the Trinity (Tank, DPS, Healer) in many MMOs.  One anyone can tank, do dps, or heal a group, the specialization kind of went by the wayside in many games.

Where I think there should be a robust single player game (there are many, many, casual gamers out there) there should also be content for groups.  Things that are only going to be accomplished by a large group just from the sheer size.  Titans in EVE Online come to mind when they first came out, you needed material, you needed skills, you needed someone to pilot, it was a massive undertaking.  I think that guild content needs to expand beyond the 24 people to go spank <insert legendary monster of doom here>.  I also believe that the entire guild concept has been rather one-dimensional in the past and should gather some depth to really make people excited about it.  In DU, I would see the really large guilds as almost being governmental groups over an area, as they are in EVE.   Even that however is rather one-dimensional, however, in a sandbox environment people will take whatever is given to them and make what they want.

The secret is going to be to provide enough guild tools so people will be able to mesh together what they think will work best for them.  If it breaks, they grow from that and try something else.   I see it as DU putting the chess board down on the park bench with a box that contains chess pieces, checkers, marbles, Statego pieces, Lego blocks, and some wind up cars, and just says "Okay--have at it".

Comrademoco reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in DevBlog: From Barter to Market Economy
Currently, there is no plan to enable players to create their own currency, for several reasons:
    - Risk of imbalance: If there is something that needs to be stable for a sandbox game, this is the in-game economy.
    - Development priority: Many features are quite long to develop (even the basic ones). And as this type of game mechanics implies a complex game design behind it in order to work well, it would cost a lot of development time. And for now, it's far from being in priorities
    - Fun to play: We are not entirely convinced that enabling players to create their own money would be fun on the long run, nor really very easy to understand and master for most of the players (look how the economy in real life is complexified just by that). While we don't want to go "mainstream" in the game design of Dual Universe, we don't want either to go for a game that will only appeal to a very small population of players. We also need numbers to create a MMORPG full of player-driven stories!

Yes, Alpha release has been postponed:
We want to provide a meaningful experience for Dual Universe Alpha testers.
And while the game has evolved a lot until now, it seems to us that we won't have a version that we estimate satisfactory enough to be released (even with a restricted access). Updating our roadmap with this in mind is currently in progress. As soon as more information will be available for the Alpha release, you will be informed.

Hopefully one day I can become a game designer and do what I love to do best and that is to create places, worlds, and other things. I have been following the progression of Dual Universe for quite a long time as it really captures my interest. One of the main factors that really got me interested was having the ability to make something, out of voxels, and make it actually work! There are alot of other things that has had me interested in the game as well like multiple planets, outer space, faction/organization creation, and pretty much all the things listed on the 'About the Game' page. This will truly be an outstanding game and will have my full support.

I created this profile to support and be part of the growing community because we have so much potential. I'm currently a contributor of the Dual Universe wiki (gamepedia) paying close attention to updates by Novaquark and writing its pages, I hope to become its administrator soon to contribute even more. I'm very attracted to Dual Universe because it is one of a few that focuses on the communities' ideas and opinions. I have many ideas myself, but I'll save that for another topic.

I'm very interested in meeting people here, maybe make friends! It's a pleasure.
