  1. "- While there could be some hidden reasons, do you consider the fact to find blueprints by this manner ok? or do you find it a bit "too convenient" (lore-wise)?"

Initially I felt it "too convenient" but we are talking about an alien civilization, 10,000 years past when the arkships left Earth. It would be hubristic for us to assume we can understand alien civilizations. Based on this, knowing that alien civilizations have tech far far beyond what we can ever imagine I don't see it as too convenient as its completely plausible.

"- For the time being, items made in kyrium are meant to be indestructible. Is it fine from your point of view? or do you think this could be an issue?"

Every game has to have some form of boundries and I assume Kyrium is a boundry (to keep players from griefing or whatever). I think it's sensible. In popular culture we often have materials that are indestructible or near indestructible, especially in comics.

"We want to make rewards earned this way very special and unique (not something that you can mine or buy to a NPC). Do you have some other ideas on the subject?"

I think rewards should be mixed. For more easily obtainable stuff I see no reason why we can't have an NPC, unless you intend for players to set up shops for bartering and trading, but even then an NPC might be nice for super common stuff. I guess it kinda depends on the reward. I think for the most part your way of offering rewards invites players to explore. So in this sense it almost seems paramount.

I do think gathering or farming or harvesting or whatever should be a part of the process. Sometimes its nice to just go out and mindlessly farm, but not to the extent that it becomes a day job. I guess essentially common raw materials should be relatively easy to find, more rare materials a bit harder and schematics, etc should be obtained by the puzzles, maybe off rare creatures. Some of this is tough to say because we are not sure how much of the world is to be player created once in game, and how much you guys want to develop or continue developing. Some other games are going down the road of everything being automated from emergent AI to player made creations etc. I am not convinced that model will work. I think the key is balance, some emergent stuff, some developer stuff. As long as you guys can stay in control and steer the game in the proper direction based on your vision, I think its all good.

  2. Welcome Lego! :D

I feel the same way. Games right now seem to be in stagnant state. The great MMO's we have played all seem to be watered down in favor of micro transaction and cute pets vs fun game play or making a game for fun.

I was playing a voxel building game in closed beta, but that company seems to have shifted focus for a while off that game onto another and its kinda dried up. Not really playing much of anything at the moment.  I hope Dual fits that hole where I have a desire to play games. It appears to me that the people heading up Dual and working on it are passionate, intelligent and quite artistic. I have good feelings about this game. :D

  3. I would like to suggest the name 'Transmuter' for the morpher. I like Kadpaq.

I will say, although I voted for neither, I do like 'Nanoformer' quite a bit.

    Nanoformer and Nanopack

    Nanoformer and Kadpack

    Morpher and Kadpack

    Morpher and Nanopack

    Transmuter and Nanopack

    Transmuter and Kadpack

Imo Nanoformer and Kadpack rolls off the tongue the best. The Nanoformer is descriptive of its function through 'former' as in forming, and Kadpack is descriptive of its function through 'pack' but does not get tongue tied like saying nanoformer and nanopack.

I just like the word Transmuter because 'Transmute' is what the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets, G-Force) used to transform...as a kid (well and now) I just thought it was the coolest sounding word.

  4. As some know, I play landmark but also recently purchased space engineers. Space engineers is pretty deep as far as ship design, but its also intimidating and difficult to acclimate to after using landmark tools.

Specifically In landmark you place voxels by pointing your mouse, in space engineers you place voxels by moving the character into position. I find space engineers method harder to build with (I am sure if I spent more time with it, I would have less of an issue).

Is this something DU has considered? How voxels are placed, by mouse pointer or first person cross hair.

  5. As long as I can have stealth tech on my pirate/smuggler/bountyhunter spaceship, I am good. I think the idea of having the toon still exist in game when logged out can be a fun one, but a player should also be allowed to rest in a safe haven or neutral zone or something. If the player makes the effort to ensure they log back in with their goods, they should be allowed to keep it.

I think in a world of hard core gaming, perma death or losing good when logged out is fine but in todays game environment there has to be a balance to cater to hard core and casuals.

    Hi ReadyForTheGame,

Well, as Beta won't be before end of 2016... it's a bit too soon to give details on it.

    What is clear for now:

    - Alpha will be indeed mostly for backers/supporters/founders, helping us in a crowdfunding campaign.

But it might be also possible to get access for very active community helpers. We haven't decided yet the prerequisites, nor even confirm it will indeed be possible. But we will keep you informed as the situation evolve.

    - There will a closed Beta and an open Beta, that's also quite sure. About the modalities to get access, this is also still in discussion. And it won't be defined before we define all the modalities for Alpha access.

However, we want to be clear on one thing:

Alpha & Closed Beta Access are meant to help us building the game by giving feedback and reporting bugs. While a lot of game companies see Beta phase as some advertisement stunt and marketing strategy, we think differently, or more precisely we think the old way: As Alpha, Closed Beta has mainly a role to improve the game experience. It's not meant to just play the game sooner. While we completely understand that members of the community are eager to play the game as much as we are, if some are not interested in testing or bug reporting (which can be - and we agree - a very tedious task but a necessary one), then the Open Beta will be the most appropriate first experience to discover the game.

I would stress, stress again and triple stress to alpha testers that they are in game for TESTING. In landmark a lot of people left due to a lack of systems implemented due to the stage its in. Most of the people in that game are buy in's because of Everquest NExt (something I have ZERO interest in, I wanted in landmark to build.).

I do think the scenario for early/alpha testers in Dual will be different than my experience in LM, simply because Dual is being made for Dual, not for another game. BTW, when can I sign up, back, adopt, buy in. :D   :P

  7. Kiklix plans to play an Alien under a human skin? This might be troublesome...   :o

    (just joking)

It's not actually human skin. Its a nanotech synthetic adaptive polymer. It allows for more than one form (not simultaneously) and allows for deep infiltration into the ranks of....ohh dear I have said too much. If you have any weird dreams of abduction or red marks on your arm, ankle, legs or neck after you wake tonight...it was not me.

  8. I don't really have too much of offer in the way of guilds, except that in the past 6 years of wow, SWTOR, GW2 and even now in landmark, the only guilds I belonged to were my guild and most of the time it was just me, max of 3 to 5 people.

I like peace and immersion and what I really dislike about guilds is the incessant banter I always see in guild chat. Same reason I stay out of /general or /trade etc.

I would almost like to see..tiers of guilds (I may not accurately describe what I see in my head here).

What I mean by that is think of society. We belong to a country (large guild), a state or province (large, but smaller guild), a town (still large but much smaller), a family (3-5 person unit).

I almost think to some degree your "guild" should happen automatically, for example what planet you take residence on and as it filters smaller and smaller becomes more of a choice. I guess in most MMO's this would be the faction you align with at the start of the game and then what guild you choose based on people you like playing with.

I also feel that guilds should be more organic in a way. For example. I make a pirate space ship and recruit 7 players. We would all be a "guild" for that ship or crew...almost like if you are not active within that organization, you are no longer part of it. What I fear is large guilds that really serve no purpose but to glorify the guild leaders or officers, unless that is what the player chooses to do...which could very well be the case in an RP sense.

I don't think I am conveying what I am thinking very well. ITs kinda hard to describe. I just don't like when I see a giant guild umbrella, with pockets of banded players inside of it.

Also. I feel very very strongly about the RP aspect of guild names (and player names). In World of Warcraft I chose RP servers, not becaues I wanted to RP all day long or really had much interest in it, but because I could not stand names like "Lolkill", "Boogerbutt", "Strangedeath", "DaMan" etc etc. In Wow, you could report bad player names like that and force the player to rename to the RP naming conventions. I know this is labor for a customer service agent, but could be player controlled if flagged by other players with a message asking to please name accordingly. I know this might put some people off, but imo the people put off by not being able to use a stupid name are usually the ones causing trouble anyway.

A world where corporations, fleets, armies, merchants, pirates etc have names that adhere to some form of RP element within that universe are generally far more immersive and simply "feel" better or feel more serious which to me has connotations of being legitimate. Crummy names for guilds or players often leaves me feeling like everything around me is a joke.

Anyway, kinda went off on a rant. But uhh...I might revisit my ideas here when I am better able to express them.

  9. I never used twitter prior to playing landmark and I just made a reddit account about 3 weeks ago due to a friends suggestion, I think I have visited the LM reddit area like 3 times.

I almost think the key is to have a unified place for content, be it official forums, you tube, etc etc and use the other social media channelsto drive the traffic where you want it to go. The tricky part is reaching out to everyone and trying to not alienate some of the players (usually ones who do not use social media and stick to official forums).

Also, its good to year your commentary on steam. That makes a lot of sense. And really...to touch on that, I think that is one of the most impressive things about you gals and guys, you really seem to think things out in the most logical manner and move forward with a solid plan. I was really impressed with the financing post and the transparency.

  10. I think the crowdfunding route is perfect. What PetDcat said is true about landmark. As long as you are able to communicate to your fan base you will be fine but if not then issues can stir.

One thing I have noticed about landmark is that a lot of people do not like the main communication to be on social media outside of the official forums. That makes sense, people come to official forums to get news updates etc, its a logical flow for the process.

  11. I like this idea, but how does this work with intellectual property? Is (insert favorite artist) going to be ok with us streaming their music in a setting they are unfamiliar with? If there is a potential for DU to get into trouble with allowing the use of others IP, I would say no to this feature. I know radio stations broadcast music, but that is usually allowed by the record company.

  12. Thank you Nyzaltar. It makes sense to me. I would have to see the voxel size in relation to a character to fully appreciate the 25 centimeter size (my calculations show that your size is barely larger than LM). But regardless, as you pointed out, we will get to fly these and that adds a ton of playability vs a spaceship that can't move.

The planet size works for me. :D

  13. Has D.U. come up with an approximate voxel size in relation to characters? For example in Landmark I think voxels are roughly 9.6 inches or 24.384 centimeters. From what I understand there is a direct relation to voxel size and performance. Smaller voxels allow for greater visual fidelity, but decrease performance where as larger voxels decrease performance less but also limit visual fidelity when building.

  14. Exactly. Landmark is nice, but building something always leaves me feeling empty because it serves no purpose. This is where Dual Universe takes the ball and will make touchdown after touchdown (note: I really have no interest in sports). I can't wait to be a part of this exciting community. I love the art DU is producing and happy to see another sci fi voxel game.

  15. I found Dual Universe by a retweet of a friend. I am a designer irl and dabble in art, and photography.

I currently play another voxel based game in early development and build sci fi exclusively (but there is no movement to the voxel creations). I love to make spaceships and spaceships and then more spaceships.

I am extremely excited about a single shard sandbox sci fi game where players can craft and pilot their own ships and or space stations.

I look forward to meeting you all in the future.
