    'Trust is'

Trust is specific. Ploys are vague.
We are an organisation with deep dreams and vested interests. Premium services are cardinal to our dominance in handpicked sectors. The HTX is committed to exotic industry, a network of effective logistics services, sterling trade hubs and lethal PvP. Through Outpost Zebra, we hope to provide players with prime, objective news coverage online.

Trust is finite. Money is printed.
Welcome to Dual Universe. We are here to serve you – not the organisation or alliance. We know trust is finite and hard to obtain. That’s why we’re always in for the long haul. Lifelong trust is lifelong gain. The HTX won’t sacrifice long term advantages for short-lived profits. To forfeit integrity is loss; to break neutrality is anathema. Your alignment in Dual Universe is inconsequential: we have a reputation for impartiality. Business with the HTX is Suisse banking.

Trust has history. Lies die swiftly.
Our arrival in 2016 as The Aether was little more than a whisper. We have since evolved. It’s hard to imagine now, but at one time, The Aether arguably had the largest network of alliances and agreements in Dual Universe. We are not the white knights of old. Alliances and memoranda; been there, done that. Time has shaped the HTX into a focused and observant group. We have shed ghosts to obviate inflating our numbers. We have avoided alliances to spurn partisanship. Join an organisation with an untainted history and famous members. We make only one promise: business is business.

Trust is enlightened. Gullibility is uninformed.
In 2017, we realised, ‘this isn’t going to work.’ The Aether had goals to offer services to Dual Universe. However, alliances would require compromise, sooner or later. Simultaneously, going solo was to paint a target on our backs. A bulb turned on: neutrality is not isolation; independence is not frailty. The options: stick to The Aether or do better. Two years later, we’ve never been prouder of our decision. Dual Universe is a world that can only grow from here, and along with it, so will we.

Trust is industrious. Deception tires quickly.
Maximising the minimum gain is a philosophy you will come to understand in the HTX. It is foolhardy to assume an organisation can be the best at everything. We decided instead to be the best at everything we do. Our focus on industry is limited to the dynamic production of high value items. Whether these are transferred to nefarious entities for further use or creative players for protecting themselves is none of our concern. However, we are interested in ensuring the purchased goods are delivered in pristine condition. To that effect, we are developing our haulier services to reach you wherever you might be in a timely fashion. To handle hostile interest in your consignment, the HTX intends to cultivate a small, skilled and specialised group of players. Their purpose is not to harass organisations or individuals. This arm exists to make sure no living being or plan comes between you and your delivery. As a secondary goal, our PvP members must be able to stall companies many times their size, or turn the tide if a delivery so requires it. Lastly, keeping people updated on the events in Dual Universe is important for their safe passage, information and entertainment. We need nothing more than a few objective reporters around the Universe to bring you the news you need to hear.

Trust is patient. Failure is restless.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. It will take time, careful planning and a long march to achieve our end-goal. The sniper waits for the right moment. The industrialist builds his conglomerate over decades. We are dedicated to achieving what we set out for. Patience is not simply the ability to wait – it’s how we behave while waiting. In Dual Universe that means having fun, learning from setbacks and constantly working towards a goal. We short-change ourselves when we give in to impatience and laxity. Dual Universe is fun; we are fun – if you have the mind to welcome it.

    Trust is decisive. Hope wanders.
Are you satisfied? If you think you have found a mutual fit in us, submit an application. We have clearly defined goals for decisive people. If that’s you, you’re more than welcome to join a premier organisation. If we have identified you as a promising candidate, you will hear from us soon.

    Trust is the HTX.
The Heimera Trade Xchange is a unique name, formed from our values and learned members. ‘Heimera’ is a word taken from Icelandic ‘Heimana’ (worlds) and Greek ‘Meraki’ (to do something with soul, creativity or love; leaving a piece of yourself in your work). Together, they signify our dedication to making an impact in the best way we possibly can. Is there a more realistic way to signal commitment to excellence in our activities?

Our members shine. The first ever community digest featured Aetherios (now known as Vyz Ejstu). The second one interviewed Falstaf for his excellent work in founding Outpost Zebra and his generally flawless character. Anonymous is an inconspicuous figure almost assuredly behind the largest projects in Dual Universe. Kael often runs both Outpost Zebra and the organisation with mechanical efficiency. We encourage our members to be active and build a respectable image for themselves and the organisation. A star filled night sky is beautiful, but nothing without individually shining stars. What else to expect of an organisation that draws inspiration from the best of history, philosophy and design?

Vyz Ejstu reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Changes in the Community Management Team!
    Dear Community members,

A few changes are happening in the Community Team at the moment and it's necessary to make some clarifications about it:

    - For those who remember NQ-Nunc, if it wasn't clear, he has left the team for quite some time now.
    - NQ-Nomad is still there, but is investing a significant amount of time in many internal tasks related to live operations and project management.
    - I'm still there, obviously, but I have to divide my time between reporting the community feedback, working on some internal tasks, as well as working on some projects for the future that should lead to some QoL on tools at the disposal of the Community (more info on that later ).
    - NQ-Naerais has joined the team this week! If you want to say "Hi", you can do it in this forum thread.

We know a fair number among you wanted more interaction with the Community Management team, and some changes are planned in the (very) near future on that topic!

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    Hello Noveans!

As NQ-Nyzaltar said, I just joined the team here in Montreal. I'm very happy to be here, and excited to continue this amazing journey with all of you. I am quite new to the company so I do ask for a little patience while I get sorted here, I may not have all the answers right away but do know I will do my best to help make your experience with us the best it can be.

A bit about my background, I've worked on quite a few games of all varieties (MMO, Table Top, Card, Collectible, Board and more) for more years than I care to admit. I'm definitely an MMO fanatic and will be spending just as much of my free time along side you (in secret ) as you do. I'm convinced I'm a cat whisperer (though the same can be said for coffee), and a sci-fi fan.

I can't wait to see, share and celebrate all that you build in this amazing universe together!

    Outpost Zebra

It has been a labour of love, it has. For weeks, a dedicated team worked tirelessly to achieve a goal. A goal not driven by the reward of money or the promise of fame; a goal unaltered by difficulties and undimmed by rumours. That goal, my friends, is Outpost Zebra.

This humble Outpost has no other purpose, but to spread the news of Dual Universe far and wide, to provide a platform for interaction between organisations and players alike. Consider it a home away from home, the figurative middle ground where parties on both sides of the spectrum meet to discuss events, share ideas, express opinions, promote their interests, find new friends…recruit new members.

    In the words of Falstaf:

Today, that idea has finally taken form. Aided by the ever ready help of ATMLVE, the skill of Epidemic, the expertise of Kael and the knowledge of Anonymous, and the quiet support from members of this Community, Falstaf’s dream of the platform for ideas and opinions to be shared has come true.

“Oz”, as we affectionately call it, is still in its infancy. It will mature in due time, and grow greater than many believe it can. However, for that to happen, Oz will need your patronage and your help.
Its goal is not to replace the Dual Universe Forums. No. That is neither our plan nor its purpose. Its goal is to complement the Forums, reach a wider audience, provide a place where conflicts are set aside and new ideas are birthed over jokes, galleries, articles, stories and media.

Outpost Zebra is a vantage point, looking over Dual Universe and bringing its best to you without the need to login and play.

Hopefully, it will convince thousands that Dual Universe is a life worth living.

It’s online now – the Outpost is active.

    Cheers.

"Interesting options you brought up there. I can't speak for the developers, but in my opinion, fixed destination stargates are the thing.

For one, let's look at how stargates are deployed. Destination A is where probe number one launches from. Destination B is where probe number one becomes the light of the tunnel. To justify 'dialling' stargates,
probe number one needs to be able to do the job of the hypothetical probe number two. That means making probes re-usable.i.e Probe number one serves as an anchor, tunnel point one, tunnel point two, tunnel point three, et cetera. You network stargates by finding some way to connect them, or 'grouping' them. For example, Stargates A, B, C and D belong to Group Alpha; Stargates E, F, G, and H belong to Group Beta. Then you have the obvious problem of setting the connecting link(s) for Group Alpha and Group Beta. Mix size restrictions in there and possible logistics of network topology and you've got your work cut out for you. In 'dialling's' defence, I don't know anyone that prefers 'point-to-point' topology (direct access - or fixed in your case here) to mesh (dialling Stargates or a case in which every Stargate is connected to another) network topology. Obviously, allowing any Stargate to dial another is something that makes Stargates more at home in Star Trek and Doctor Who as magical teleportation devices but in this case, good ol' ale is better than the synthetic protein shakes they serve these days. In other words, 'fixed point' is a tried and proven design. Make it hybrid because we'll be playing in a civilisation 500 years into the future, and you have a Stargate that has a fixed end and two or three points.

You know where it leads, you know where it ends. Dialling Stargates makes it easier for our dear small scale newbie hauliers and truckers, but if I can pass through a zillion territories without changing bus, why not just make one big country instead? 'Fixed point' does three things for us:
It provides the necessity for a well thought out logistics system. Case in point: your road network. It isn't just strips of tarmac intersecting at weird points; some people sat down to analyze traffic behaviour at different times of the day and built the roads according to those needs. You can build a dozen streets and only two are being used and you can bet on it: they'll be clogged. Without 'Fixed point', every Tom, Dick Jack and Harry would set up a Stargate linking everywhere and nowhere at once. Seeing lights zip everywhere through space is beautiful until you realise that those could be your foes with their new 'omni-location' Stargates bearing down on your territory from a thousand points. Not good. It makes Hauling the more important. This might not be your thing, but there are players who find a certain fetish pleasure in sitting down after a hard day's work and staring at the beauty of a digital Universe while hauling hundreds of dollars worth of goods for hours at a time. They love it, God knows why, and who am I to judge? There are certain days I'd rather pay someone to stare at a screen for 120 minutes and jumping for joy every one or two minutes at getting through another gate without 'Gate Campers' holding up traffic. Put in a dialling Stargate and you leave them without their pleasure. Why pay someone to jump just one gate? Might as well bring a few friends if I'm so worried about my cargo. It brings in the suspense of 'content creators'. That's another word for 'Gate Campers' or Pirates. You've got to love guys that sit like 'Chameleon stones' with the equivalent of fifty howitzers as the fore cannon ready to do the '21 Gun Salute' for you and your buddies. Bring your Own Shades: big explosions make big lights. In other words, 'Fixed Stargates' are easier to develop for Alpha and Beta, much more fun and much more necessary for the immersion the devs have been gunning for. That's just my opinion on it, I'm more than ready to see someone's differing perspective.

If you're wondering, yes: the Aether is still offering it's TRANCE Stargate Network and logistics services to any org that's interested (21 organisations have 'formally' signed up so far).

    Cheers.

Vyz Ejstu reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in NovaWriMo 2019 Contest: Rules to participate
    Hi everyone!

    Sorry for the late reply!
    So to answer your questions...

    @Vyz Ejstu
    1) and 6) Aphelia is dematerialized in the simulation. She doesn't forbid anything as long as it is not an attempt to impact/attack her own integrity. However, she won't facilitate nor encourage any violence. That's also why colonists haven't any hand weapon given to them once you "wake up" in the simulation. Consider that a loophole exists as colonists really wanting to resort to violence can bypass this interdiction by making constructs with weapons. It's up to you to take into account only everything you had so far in-game, or to include in your story what will be possible/available with Alpha3 coming soon.

    2) Alpha team members can interact to the limit explained in the 2nd special rule for this NovaWriMo Contest:
"The contender can write about conflicts, however, it should only involve fictional opponents/organizations, not real players or organizations run by real players (to avoid any disagreement between the players mentioned about how the narrative direction is going)". At the very least, if several Alpha team members interact in a story, you must make sure beforehand that all the involved ones agree with the direction taken by your story.

    3) No, pets aren't included in the Alpha simulation.

    4) It's a bit like the film Matrix: They don't "log out". They sleep in the simulation to be fully immersed in it.

    5) You can consider that if wildlife is in the simulation for storytelling purpose, it would be quite similar to what you find on Earth (don't go overboard on that point though, as it's not something that will get a very strong focus in the game, at least for now), based on Aphelia's database knowledge.

    7) Physical limitations in terms of travel would be the whole Helios system. Players can't go outside this solar system in the simulation, just as it is currently in-game.

    @Keejhle
Many things currently in game are subject to change a lot until the official release.
You can present that by adding a narrative disclaimer about "Aphelia's virtual simulation" not being representative of the "real world" in which the players will land once the official release is reached. Regarding "mysteries"... Yes, they are mysteries in the virtual simulation, and that might be obviously source of many questions: are those "mysteries" really put there by Aphelia just to test the colonists adaptability skills (in any case, it will be the official answer she will give them)?  Will there be similar mysteries in the "real world" they will land on? If so, how can Aphelia know so much about said mysteries without having been over there first?

We hope this answer your questions.
If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

    Hi everyone!

    The NovaWriMo Contest is back!

    What is NovaWriMo?

For those who don't know what this is about, here's a quick explanation: NovaWriMo is a writing contest inspired by "National Novel Writing Month" (NaNoWriMo), which usually starts in November and lasts for roughly one month. NovaWriMo is a very similar contest, but with a twist; the writing contest is related to Dual Universe, and it's not strictly tied to the month of November.

    2019 Theme:

Pre-Alpha, Alpha, and Beta phases of Dual Universe are also part of the game lore!
How’s that possible? Simple; it represents virtual simulations run by Aphelia while all the colonists are still deep in their cryogenic sleep during their interstellar travel. Quite similar to the virtual simulation in the film ‘The Matrix’, except that the colonists are aware of it, understand that it’s a temporary situation, and that they will walk out of it at some point (the official release). They don’t have steel pikes plugged into their brains either!

    Special Rules for this theme:
The contender can write anything about what his character (or his organization) is doing during the Alpha phase, or what he will do once upcoming features are officially announced on the roadmap will be implemented in game. In that second case, we would advise to wait until the updated roadmap is released (which should happen very soon). That's the reason why we made the Contest duration slightly longer this time, so you don't have to worry about rushing your story.
The contender can write about conflicts, however, it should only involve fictional opponents/organizations, not real players or organizations run by real players (to avoid any disagreement between the players mentioned about how the narrative direction is going)
It should be clear with the rules mentioned above but in order to confirm it clearly: No alien creatures should be involved in the story.
    Lore sources for reference:

The short story written by Alain Damasio
The mods of the novel by Alain Damasio mentioned in the beginning of this post, some info here and here too
The Backstory Page of the official website
    Some more recent information.
(If you spot an inconsistency between the different sources, the Official Lore Bible should be considered authoritative).

    Writing Rules:
The text should have a word count between 3,000 and 5,000 words. The contest starts today, Friday November 29th, 23:00 UTC. It will end on Monday January 13th, 23:00 UTC. The story should be on the chosen theme (see above). You must submit your text in the form of a PDF file and you must attach it to a dedicated topic (with the tag [NovaWrimo2019] in the title) you created in the "Novaquark Archives" forum section. The PDF file must not exceed 500 kb in size. You must also send your file in Word or .txt format to both NQ-Nomad and NQ-Nyzaltar to be eligible. You can do so by private message on the forum. By submitting a fanfiction with the tag [NovaWrimo2019] in the topic title, the poster will explicitly cede author rights to Novaquark. While these texts won't be sold in any form, they may be used (fully or partially) as promotional materials or in marketing campaigns for Dual Universe. For more information, please read our "Terms of Use" and our EULA. You also must accept and respect the legal conditions bound to your Dual Universe account (the aforementioned game's EULA, but also the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and NDA if relevant). Your submission must be written in English. Physical violence should be limited (No gore or similar things).  Verbal violence and cursing is tolerated but should be limited and not gratuitous. Explicit sexual content isn't allowed. Hate speech toward specific people, ethnic groups, or religions isn't allowed. A non-native English writer can seek help from a native English speaker to polish the text in English. The native English speaker must be aware that it can help only on a volunteer basis: he won't be eligible for any reward. If a non-native English writer seeks help from a native English speaker, he/she must submit the complete text before proofreading. Once his/her text is proofread, he/she will have to keep both pre-proofread and post-proofread versions of the text available on the forum. If several people collaborate on a story, please be aware that only the individual submitting the entry on the forum will be eligible to win any prizes or awards. We will not have group prizes available.  Because the juries are completely different, a participant may win a Novaquark prize and the Community prize. You may submit multiple entries, however, you may only win one Novaquark prize. If an entry does not meet all of the requirements for eligibility (text size not observing the word count, missing the deadline by a few days, etc.), the author won't be considered as eligible for the Novaquark and the Community prizes. However, it may still be considered as a participant to the contest. It will be up to the Novaquark team to decide on a case by case basis.  Late entries will not be eligible for either the Novaquark or Community prizes, but will still be considered as participants.  A gentle reminder, rather than a rule; please consider the reading comfort of your future readers by formatting your text in a way that makes it easily readable (make sure to put some space between your paragraphs, etc.)
      Winners:
There will be three winners selected by the Novaquark team. There will be one winner selected by the Community (Community members will vote for their favorite story).
    Prizes:
Novaquark 1st Prize: 3 Beta Keys + In-game title "NovaWriMo 2019 Winner: Gold" Novaquark 2nd Prize: 2 Beta Keys + In-game title "NovaWriMo 2019 Winner: Silver" Novaquark 3rd Prize: 1 Beta Key + In-game title "NovaWriMo 2019 Winner: Bronze" Community Prize: In-game title "Famous Writer".

With this weeks longer than usual test, Eyes & Ears notched four more rescues to its belt, bringing the overall total to 20 rescues.

@yamamushi made his first recorded rescue of another player out in deep space, 50 SU from Talemai. With a minor language barrier, Yamas linguistic skills proved exceptionally useful and with one medium space tank refueled, our travelers were on the (space?) road again.

Just as that rescue was wrapping up, I was on my way to Madis to resupply a newer player who didn't expect fuel to be so expensive at their destination. In most situations I would have told this player to mine and sell resources so they can get to know a bit more of the game. Needing something to do, however, I went out to help.

Early Sunday morning prompted a little bit of teleportation from Alioth to a player who had run out of fuel on their way to Talemai. Normally I would have made the manual trip myself, but in the interest of getting to bed I contacted someone from NovaQuark who was able to assist with my transportation.

The very next day with another early morning rescue, our fourth call came in from a pilot flying away from Alioth and was unable to change course. After catching up and tinkering with their construct for a half hour, the straight flying Novean opted to leave the construct behind and was returned to terra firma.

With the test now over, feedback is being gathered and I'll have it posted in next weeks update (should we make any rescues).

    Safe flying,

    Weekly Update - Sept 2nd

Another test come and gone, two more rescues this session makes for eight in Alpha 2, and 22 total. Eight rescues is a little over half the number of rescues we made in the entirety of Alpha 1 so I think that's a good sign that people are taking notice!

    ----------

@Haunty made their first rescue on record on Thursday, saving @Dejwid who had made their first trip to space and unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perspective!) crashed on one of Alioths moons. A helpful hint: Equip some reverse thrusters, turn and burn, or equip some space brakes.

The second rescue which was actually made earlier that day was more of an assist. I suspect most Noveans are equipped with radios in their suits, but what if you weren't? What if you left your only line of communication on your construct, and what if your construct was floating over a hundred meters in the air due to a sudden act of Lord JC? Luckily we don't live in this world yet and we can still communicate outside the game!

While watching the chat, I noticed that @Furaites needed some help. Less than ten minutes and one trip half way around the planet later and after an admittedly rough landing (ended up on my side) because of the previous weeks tinkering, we had our Novean on a one way trip up to their construct. With nothing further needed, rescue 21 was a wrap.

Aside from these rescues, testers may notice a small advertisement at each district now.

    ----------

Outside the tests a minor addition has been made to our website.

Normally after rescues are completed, rescuers will ask the former victim a few brief questions on how things went, along with any feedback they have for submission on our website on the Stats & Stories page. This process has been moved over to our website in the form of a new Feedback page.

I am also seriously considering a minor color change. Testers would probably note that black is an oft used color for most all of my constructs. I just love how it goes with almost any other color out there, it just looks nice in general IMO. A couple of downsides do exist in the fact that it can be hard to spot at night (maybe a good thing?) and is also very hard to spot in space. This impression of stealth may be misinterpreted which could be unduly provoking from an outsiders perspective.

Partly inspired by the US Cost Guard as seen in the E&E banner, and suggested by one of the organizations members, I'm thinking of a renewed color scheme replacing black with a slightly dark shade of white, red and blue for accent colors, and black as a lesser trim option.

This won't impact the background of the website as the current layout makes it easy to read in gamers dimly lit rooms. Links however may go from red to the more traditional blue while the white font color will not change.

    ----------

Additionally last weeks feedback has been added to the website alongside this weeks feedback since both rescues were early on in the test. Thanks to all those that submitted their feedback which can be viewed on the Stats & Stories page.

Finally, in more regrettable news, some of my hardware issues from earlier this month are back which means that I personally am out of commission as far as testing goes.
Possible motherboard issue but I'm leaning more in the direction of the power supply. Throttlestop indicates PL1 in yellow under Core if that gives anyone any ideas, please discuss it with me via DM.

Don't worry though, you can still find me on Discord both on Eyes & Ears Discord server and the Official DU Discord. Members of Eyes & Ears will still be conducting their rescues during tests like normal, just enter the 911 room in chat, or stick your head in our Discord and we will assist you the best we can.

That's all for now, until next time, fly safe everyone!
