  1. Yet that is the plan. As for "even 100", they've already done that with their current tech, although public servers are limited to 50 (and usually full)
  2. The plan is for Star Citizen to be single shard just like DU. AKAIK, they haven't started work on server meshing yet.
  3. You would need the total mass of several star systems to do it... maybe several hundred. And there wouldn't be any way to create gravity on the inner surface unless they add artificial gravity to the game. (Gravitational forces inside a sphere cancel out. Do the math) I suspect the orgs whose planets you were stealing would stop you. Update: OK, I actually looked some stuff up and did the calculations. All of the non-stellar mass of a single system should be enough, so if your org went and found a system and mined all of the planets into non-existence, I guess you could build a Dyson sphere. You still have the gravity problem though.
  4. I'll play... Here's my ship concept built to standards that I think I'll be able to meet in DU. Oh that's annoying. I can only upload one picture, lol. And can't even delete this one to replace it with a better one. Oh well.
  5. I tried to keep the questions vague enough not to break the NDA. Still waiting for access to the sub-forum. Thanks.
  6. Everything about building in this game seems really counter-intuitive to me. Is there a document that discusses how to do it or is solving the puzzle intended to be part of the game play? I found this https://dualuniverse.gamepedia.com/Builder_Guide The system makes a little sense now although I'm still a bit lost on what keys to press etc. Is there a test level available where we can learn to build without having to spend 90% of the time gathering resources (or 99% of the time gathering scarce resources)? This is certainly an alpha sub-forum question. Thanks.
  7. Chris Roberts endorsed the kickstarter on the Star Citizen website, so I checked it out. Definitely a game worthy of support even though I'm a little concerned it will just be a gank-fest (in which case I'll stay in the safe zone and build space ships)
  8. Am I unable to see the Alpha forum section because the forum thinks I'm a Silver Founder when I'm really a Sliver Kickstarter? (At least I think I'm a Silver Kickstarter)
  9. hmmmm.... are you sure you're not a bot? lol Welcome.
  10. Is there an Alpha section of the forum? How do I access it?
  11. I've been gone for a while, but checking back in. Hope everyone is having fun.
  12. I predict a slam dunk trademark infringement suit, lol. (Unless this org is the real Red Hat Software, Red Hat is required to sue over this if if comes to their attention in order to keep their trademark.)
  13. Thanks @NQ-Nyzaltar and @NQ-Nomad. Good to catch up on what's going on.
  14. The big problem with this model is that such a game is horrendously expensive to play. I assume the game you refer to is Entropia Univierse. It's a great game, but all PvE is designed like a casino - Whatever you put into an activity, you will get less back on average. EU's payout is about 50%, which would be illegal in any casino in the US. The only way to get ahead in EU is to get money from other players. (Or invest in the game, in which you become part of the house and, in a casino, the house always wins; I have a significant investment in the game, btw, but I don't play it anymore).
  15. Now that I think of it, I remember in the DPU devblog, they mentioned that flight will work by implementing actual thrust from the thrusters. (This was in that blog because it was discussing the DPU's need to control them and how that would work.) That implies that we have 6DoF if the construct designer wants it. If I put 8 steering trusters on a ship... hmm... probably need 12 for full control... I can program keys to allow 6 DoF. So my question really breaks down to two things. 1. If you point a moving ship in a direction will, its direction of flight change to that direction? (i.e. planes in space). 2. will a ship maintain velocity without continued thrust once it is moving. (i.e., Newtonian-ish movement). Another question would be, is there a speed limit, but I assume this will be necessary as a game engine limitation.
  16. I have no interest in playing in a PvP sandbox. I like real PvP and I might do some here; but mostly, I'll be in a sz building spaceships. What is real PvP?
  17. What will the flight model be in space? Airplanes and/or submarines in space (the most common way games do it)? Six degrees of freedom with no friction (the way space really works)? Something in between (like Star Citizen)? I'm thinking about this from a design point of view. It drastically changes what will work for a spaceship. Also, will ships have artificial gravity on board? Will we need an element to implement that?
  18. *shrug* My normal policy for safety is not to have my numbers floating around out there, so I use paypal. (Not gonna make a special trip to Walmart and waste time figuring out how prepaid cards work.)
  19. To answer my own question, AMA 3 clarifies the money will be proportional to economic activity, i.e., it will be modern money, not gold standard.
  20. I'm from the US. But did you really leave out Australia? Or am I just missing it?
  21. I can't play till beta, when I assume the game will be feature complete, but: 1. Moveable constructs (i.e., ships) 2. Moving parts 3. Tracks (trains etc) 4, Replenishable resources. 5. Salvage 6. Star maps 7. Stargates 8 Avatar appearance (i.e. take off the space suit and put on a little black dress )
  22. I was very annoyed that I couldn't use Paypal for the KS. My debit card worked, but I prefer not to put that number out there.
  23. Is currency based on gold or some other raw material confirmed? I guess in a mining-focused game, that would make sense; but it seems very retro for a sci fi game - more of a steampunk thing. Modern money is a share of production btw. It's a much more real basis for money than some random shiny metal.
