  1. If you don't want to give it a second chance, then of course you don't have to. Doesn't change the fact that the current version of the game is better in most ways and worse in few than the version that was promised. You don't have to play it, you can hate it, but the game we have now is essentially what was promised, so you're only missing out if you wanted to play it before and aren't now. It's on sale right now on humble bundle for like $25. @Gronkar Because that video was only 6 minutes, I took the liberty if watching it and counting how many of those things are in the game now. Out of 32 BSs, 19 are in the game now (most added in this update) and 2 were just opinions (previously quite fair and popular opinions).
  2. Everyone remembers No Man's Sky. No one wants to speak of it because it was a disaster, and people say it hurt the "early hype" gaming industry. I was severely disappointed. I'll start off by saying that the creatures are still as boring as they ever were, because that was a huge thing people wanted all, and it's still that way. But the game just got updated and people have to know because this is the game I was excited for before Dual Universe and they just added everything that was supposed to be in it. These are a highlight of the changes: -Multiplayer -Every single interface and HUD has been revamped and improved, some minorly, some beyond recognition. -All of the graphics have been improved. -Completely overhauled combat system. -Overhauled galactic map system. -Each portal now has a code that can be entered into any other portal allowing fast travel across the universe. -30 hours of new story. -Quests. -Fourth race. -Terrain creation tool. -Tons of minor quality of life(no longer eject upon landing, low flight/FOV on PS4, summon ship anywhere) -New ships -Crashed freighters This game is one I waited so long for and I and everyone else got super burned. Now that this update is out, it almost is, literally, a better version of the game than what the trailers showed. The only remaining issue is the creatures, and this is the third enormous update for the game. I have no doubt they will continue improving because they got massive hate when the game came out and had no reason to continue, yet they did. Because of all that I just have to let you guys know, because I am sure there were some in the same boat as me. https://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/
  3. Also for those interested, there is a very highly acclaimed book written by the same people that made the language itself, called "Programming in Lua". The latest edition is the 4th edition. You can also find the last versions for much cheaper. WARNING: Do not search for a pdf version of the book. There is a pdf version available for free, but of course it is illegal. Again, do NOT search for the pdf version of the 4th edition, or you will find the free illegal version.
  4. There is not a difference between Gamepedia and the wiki right now. The official wiki, the one under discussion, IS the Gamepedia wiki. I did not refer to these theoretical players as idiots, I called them fools. An idiot is simply unintelligent, but a fool merely lacks wisdom/prudence. There's a difference. The reasoning is not a cop-out though, as I have no reason whatsoever to limit community content from the wiki other than what I've stated. I gain nothing from not having organizations on the wiki; there's no hidden agenda. What I do gain is the time it would take to update them based on their ever-changing status. There is the possibility of their rival attacking their page and then having to deal with the fallout, smaller organizations arguing about why they belong the wiki, the fact that adding community content dilutes the wiki so that it is more difficult to find official information, and the fact that any community content, once gone, becomes insignifacnt and therefore the page on the wiki becomes obsolete. Yes, then someone can remove it, and guess who has the authority to delete wiki pages? The administrator. Aside from that, that's just not what wikis are for, to create pages for relevant topics and delete them when they become obsolete. They are for documentation. I have no hidden agenda. I have my opinions for the reasons stated above, and they are just that; opinions. I have no hard feelings towards @RightBigToe or you @Hades, or anyone else that disagrees with my opinions. I want to be very clear and explain my position so that there is no animosity, and to ensure everyone that I am trying to be fair and reasonable in this situation.
  5. The wiki is not the place to go to for up to date information on the busiest trade hubs or best cities. If a new player really is struggling to find where all the activity is and they look at the wiki, and not anywhere else in the community, then they are a fool. A game wiki is not an intuitive location for current community status. The reason not to add a busy hub to the wiki is the same as I have been saying; the status of that hub can change at any time. It could become overrun by pirates or become a rival and a target. Wiki pages aren't meant to change every week depending on the current status of their topics, it is meant to be a permanent page and resource for information. Yes, game mechanics change over time, but they are far, far less volatile than a trade hub in a single-shard game. I'll lay out a set of guidelines for the wiki so that hopefully discussions like this won't need to happen again. Community content may be included on the wiki, but only in direct case-by-case bases if that material could be valuable. Several people have made good arguments relating to EVE, where community content was appropriate for the EVE wiki. Content pages for organizations that are currently active, especially in pre-alpha, have the potential for more harm than helpfulness, but in time as the game progresses it may be appropriate to create pages for specific community organizations or projects that have ended but had huge influence. Once again, my main goal is for no pages on the wiki to be 'influencable' by players. If current player actions can determine the content of the page, then it does not belong.
  6. I see a lot of people saying that Dual Universe is based around player made content, so it does belong on the wiki. I look at it from a different perspective; there is infinite potential for player made content. (Essentially) infinite constructs, organizations, players, etc. are all possible for the game, so what determines which get added to the wiki? The wiki is for mechanics in my opinion. You report the physics, and materials, and report the reasons for forming an organization and benefits of living in a city area. You do not report specific constructs, are buildings, or organizations, but the mechanics they are based upon and that is it. For an analogy to the real world: with Dual Universe, you would not make an article for New York City or London. You wouldn't make an article for Winston Churchill, or the Empire State Building or Big Ben or the companies that built them. What you WOULD do is make articles on good construction materials and physics, the skills that enhance activities such as construction or leadership, and the benefits for sticking together as players. The wiki would provide guides and tips on how to build and where to obtain materials and which materials are best for what. But again, the wiki would not report what was done with all of these resources, it would only report them and allow players to do as they see fit.
  7. There's a lot of discussion here, I like it. Several people agree with me l, but are saying that some player made content belongs if it is influential. Thank you all that have shared your opinion. I will say I am even more "radical" than most that agree with me; I'm against all player made content entirely, if it can change. If it is an organization or city, it can change, so it doesn't belong. Sure game content can change too, but thats the point of a wiki, to update it as features change, not as cities and empires rise and fall. Activities themselves, like some EVE examples like ganking, would belong on the wiki because they a part of the game, but specific examples or organizations that take part in those activities can change, and so they do not belong on the wiki. Perhaps a select few organizations or individuals may make it onto the wiki in time, if they had a huge impact and what they did or have is relevent and permanent. But in my opinion, no information on the wiki should be able to change based on the actions of players. If what a specific player or group of players does can change the information, then it doesn't belong.
  8. So to start off, @RightBigToeand myself are, by the numbers, the two biggest Dual Universe wiki contributors, and I am currently the administrator of the wiki. RightBigToe recently began adding organizations into the wiki as articles, a decision I disagreed with. Rather than repeat myself, I'll just post our conversation thus far. I will summarize after. To summarize, RightBigToe argues that large organizations are a big part of the game as it is in it's unreleased state, and as such belong on the wiki. I disagree, I think that they have no place on the wiki because they are player-made content; I do not believe community content of any kind belongs on the wiki, only information gathered by the community based upon steadfast mechanics and data released by Novaquark. One of our opinions will have to be set aside, and I feel that it should be the majority opinion based on what the community thinks. Also, there is no animosity of any kind between us, it is simply a difference of opinions! I want this to be fair. So what do you as the community think? Should community content, at least for now, be added to the wiki? What are your thoughts?
  9. I learned, it's just a classic new user filter. You have to make a certain number of edits to be allowed to make external links (which you have done!)
  10. Welcome to the forums Dan! (Or do you prefer Dak?) How did you find out about Dual Universe? Also, what the heck is a Zimmer?
  11. Huh, that is quite interesting. Thanks for letting me know, I'll see if I can figure out what the problem is.
  12. This is great, thanks! If you find the time, could you add this as a new paragraph to the wiki page on devblogs and devdiaries? https://dualuniverse.gamepedia.com/Dev_Blogs_and_Dev_Diaries
  13. Oh Novaquark has a few, I'll sell you one of theirs for 50 bucks.
  14. Oh but of course the thought occurred to me! Somehow though, I feel that Novaquark would be less than pleased with me profiting off of their logo...
  15. Welcome! Always happy to see new members. What part of Dual Universe looks most interesting to you?
  16. Also if you want the state of the door to affect things. You could have a bunch of lights turn on while a door is open, set off an alarm, etc. I totally agree, every object in the game that has states (of they can be on or off, that counts) needs to have a function to get it's current state.
  17. So, with the latest DevDiary showing a game of brick breaker running with ease... It is certain that DICE will have the opportunity to create quite an array of games or other organized entertainment for the citizens of Dual Universe. Has the recent reveal given the heads at DICE an awakening of ideas? I know I look forward to what you guys can put together!
  18. I agree. Very, very promising with crazy potential. There will be people that play Dual Universe for the games within it.
  19. Sandbox? LittleBigPlanet. My favorite game of all time. Best part about it is it can be any genre you want! I made bleak industrial stuff. Space Engineers in later times... I even have a t-shirt! FTL: Faster Than Light. It's always there for some quick entertainment. Borderlands 1 and 2. I've beaten them so many times. Spore and No Man's Sky I have love-hate relationships with... Great games in their own right, but could have been so much more. Going way back, Battlefront II. Who hasn't played that, really? Red Faction Guerrilla, only game I have for PC, Xbox, and PS3. Halo: Reach. I never was into Halo as a kid, but Reach didn't need to be nostalgic for me to be totally engrossed by its story and soundtrack. Some other scifi games I've played but aren't too special to me: Sins of Solar Empire: Rebellion Space Chem Infinifactory Fractured Space Robocraft Galactic Civilizations II Planetside 2 Unreal Tournament 2004 Various Halo Mass Effect series (besides Andromeda)
  20. I was going to make a new topic but I knew we already had one recently about this topic. Since we have just seen in the latest DevDiary that it will essentially be possible to directly insert our own images into the game and display them on screens, and everyone was discussing it in that thread, I feel like this thread needs a revival. I am of the mind that NQ should lay out a set of guidelines for what is acceptable. Parading swastikas or hentai around the Arkship? Unacceptable. Parading those things around in your own private base? Questionable, yes... But if a tree falls down in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a noise? I believe NQ and a select few others (new forum moderators?) should have the ability to respond to reports made by users. If the reported content is deemed offensive, then the content is removed and the user who created it is issued a warning, just as with any other infraction if they broke another rule. This would of course require there to be a way to see who created what images. While the swastika was originally quite innocent, it has gone the way of the name Hitler: offensive. No matter what it meant before or what it was used for, it is now associated with a regime which made it their goal to rid certain types of people from the planet because they were deemed sub-human, putting millions of people through unimaginable horrors. The Nazi party, and the war they started, caused Europe to completely rip to shreds. There are holidays in Europe that celebrate the ridding of the Nazi regime, and their swastika, from power. So yes, it was innocent, but there's a difference between being offended by a symbol associated with anti-gay marriage, and one associated with the racist genocide of millions. Also, I'm American.
  21. The July 2017 devdiary is here! Huge focus on Lua for this one. Some crazy cool stuff has been shown! I think the biggest overall announcement is that it has been shown we can add in our own images now onto screen elements. Edit: appears someone already posted it in the Arkship pub. With all these forum updates you think there'd be a delete button
  22. Just wanted to share a little Dual Universe keychain I 3D printed for my car keys. It isn't beautiful and I think it will break in a few weeks or months, but it didn't take long to make and I like the personality it adds to my keys!
  23. You can bet there will be wars. The first reason that comes to mind will be... They'll happen because people want them. Two militaristic factions may go to war simply for the fight; it's a game, and shooting spaceships with your spaceship is fun, so thus, war in a game is fun! However, that won't always be the case. Organizations can own land with Territory Control Units. They can also own ships and other things. But those things can be stolen, hacked, etc. So you could attack a faction to try and take what they have. Maybe their territory is sitting on a bunch of good resources. Or perhaps they have similar goals as you. Maybe your goal is to set up a safe and guarded trade route through an otherwise dangerous system, and you charge money for people to use it. And someone comes in and starts to set up another one to compete with you... Go attack them, destroy their possessions, so that they can't achieve the goal that you want. So bazically, people will go to war because they want a fight, they'll go to war because they want what someone else has, or they'll go to war in order to weaken an opponent.
  24. I've just published Outpost Zebra's next article, and its all about scripting. Dual Universe will have several languages in it; Lua and CSS are the two main ones. If you always thought that writing code was something way over your head... Well, writing code for Dual Universe might surprise you with how easy it is. Anyone Can Script is an article focusing on explaining how intuitive and easy programming will be in the game. If you feel that being able to write Lua and CSS to make yourself more valuable as a player and improve your overall experience is out of your reach... Well, I say you're wrong!
