  1. Look. Not knocking your playstyle. You and your org love it, that's great. If how you are playing brings YOU instant satisfaction then you are very likely to be here for the long haul. Even if the coming changes very plainly promise to change DU again in a very drastic way, i do wish you the best. But with everything I have seen, experienced, done and read over the many many years of my gaming life, every year the top sellers, the best games, the most successful software companys all have one thing in common in all their genre of games. Appeal to the common man and a semi-instant feeling of accomplishment and gratification. Do you really believe, as is, DU appeals to those money bearing gaming masses? And to reach what JC and ads have all claimed is DUs end game... Millions of people... THOSE are the ones to convince, not me.
  2. The whole 'built and driven by players' premise is in part, what attracted me to the game. The problem is like in the real world, there must be people willing and able to do the extremely tedious, everyday small things. The issue is most of those things quite frankly, make for horrible gameplay. Silly me for misunderstanding remote controls and lua script as a stepping stone to automating the tedium such as mining, running to and from markets, etc. Boy I was wrong. A game, almost by definition, sets up a fantasy situation where we can become the best gun, the top mogul, the fastest smuggler, the best builder, the richest pirate, through a series of challenges, training, forethought, and even a bit of grinding. In doing these things we advance through our chosen area gladly knowing where we want to end up. In this game, the only way to advance in any significant way is to find others to do the tedius grunt work. Even if this game had a million players, the likelihood of finding enough people happy to pay real money to do tedius virtual chores month after month with no advancement is very very low. That is where the automation and the NPCs are supposed to take over. To allow a greater number of players feel like they make a real difference and are getting somewhere. Doing this will take a LOT of code crunching, debugging, testing, patching, in other words TIME, to implement this in a meaningful, playable, and comprehensive way. Based on the games progression so far as heard from alpha backers, and the fact that the game got to this point now YEARS after first alpha release, I can not see this happening until many more years. I just don't see this experiment of DU becoming much more than a niche game. Guess I could be wrong ?
  3. Very much this is key. @NQ_Naunet many well meaning people on these forums alone have made tons of suggestions over the last few months. The devs seem to pass over the simplest ones and shoot for some grander picture that we/I have yet to understand. As it is we still do not see details in updates and have to find game breaking rules by shear accident. I may be wrong, but the corners that are cut seem very likely to appeal to the few instead of the many. I guess like I have said, time will tell.
  4. I do agree with the core principle of your argument, but disagree with some of its contents. At the end of the day, time is the only thing that will tell the tale since NQ is not releasing detailed daily login info vs subscriptions vs money income and outgo.
  5. Is it NQ as a whole? I am curious and would like to see inner workings and structure there. Hell, at the end of the day the one most responsible would be JC I would imagine.
  6. Supposedly NQ is going to come up with something, the community discussed it numerous times, including the towers of last minute rendered doom. No idea when the solution will drop. The solution was discussed about making these salvageable after a time. No idea if NQ is going with this or not .
  7. OffTopic: I see you always ask this, so I am now compelled to ask you. Has this worked yet? This may be a viable way to get needed materials??
  8. Just as quietly as they rolled it in in the first place. NQ may have learned nothing, but the new people on the forums just did.
  9. This is how I feel it's going as well. Honestly, this is the only game I had ever played that gave me an overwhelming sense of paranoia of other players while giving me zero sense of security. Someone else had mentioned this very thing, and I don't know how many players feel the same way, but the fact that anyone feels it at all is a recipe for disaster. Think about it. If the hexes around you begin bristling with defenses, guns, etc. How long will it be before someone strikes first? And not out of territorial conquest, just out of simple fear the other guy will get stronger and strike you if you wait to long. That is one thing (of many) the game sorely lacks. A sense of unity.
  10. Pre-talent wipe, I was getting more tier 1-3 ore per click, not total overall mined.
  11. My own opinion, the talent tree needs a lot of work. A LOT. A WHOLE LOT. But I am a more "nerf the schematics, fix and buff the talents" kinda guy.
  12. Remember two important things I found out the very hard way. 1-Always empty out the game cache, easiest to just do it from the launcher at each session. 2-Never turn shadows completely off. Low is fine.
  13. Without massive, massive changes over the next year, the only kind of endgame even possible is going to be imagination of the person playing. Such as most quanta, biggest ship, fanciest design, and none of it will be a shareable experience with other players unless they get satisfaction from youtube. A lot of great points are made on this thread to be sure, but the way the game was originally advertised it seemed there really was never an endgame to reach. However, to answer OP from my own pov. Endgame would be a combination of money, quality of life elements, pvp defense/offense, as well as pve in expanding and improving civilization as a whole.
  14. Spacelanes would solve that being the only place you could move that fast. Space lanes are an inline series of gates or hoops between two worlds. Maybe this will explain it better :
  15. Anyone here old enough to remember Freelancer? You could slow boat between stations if you chose, but to get there quickly you used the space lanes. That is how they dealt with times between stops. And the lanes could be disrupted by people and if you weren't paying attention, pvp ensued. As long as your ship is in the space lane, DU could bypass many calculations. Then the only thing the game has to watch for would be... Is the next section functioning? Yes... Passthrough everything and everyone no collisions. No.... Slow speed down, restart all your checks.
  16. Short answer no. But there are talents that you can train to use weapons better as well as make them better when you create them. But that is only for the weapons that are already in game. I am sure others will answer this in more detail that's just the quickie version.
  17. I have noticed. I also have noticed postings and comments that mirror what we have said almost a month ago now. No, I don't want it to fail, but you have to keep the customer base not just bring them in. High turnover rates of any type are bad. As I and so many others have said before, time will tell and that time will be a lot longer than a single month. It will be interesting to watch over the next year. Anything can happen, afterall some virus that wasn't super fatal shutting down the world wasn't believed either.
  18. I do remember a little of it. Im not really trying to persecute OR defend the game. Just give my perspective. For me, thats where again I let the ads take me to amazing space battles, wonderful exploration, little guy becomes big business owner, etc and not realize this was actually still very Alpha with none of it in place. And from what I have heard of JC, those visions are not his. As I know you agree, the implementation was horrid. Not that me or you can do anything, i know this. Just really venting a bit over the feeling of being misled is all.
  19. Ok I admit. I have to, but remember the ads and the claims. When I came here I wasn't looking for another grind. The youtubers and reddit showed it really wasn't, so I bit the bullet based on that. Thats where 0.23 got me in the foot. No where at anytime before 0.23 did I see, hear, or read that this was NQs idea or part of any end roadmap. But I can blame some on myself, for letting my thoughts and beliefs cover over the very vague and obscure 'milestones' in the launcher. Lesson learned
  20. That sounds like a potential comprimise. But I wager people and orgs that have a.lot of quanta wouldn't like it. I can see the good and the bad in it myself.
  21. I can see why it appears that the majority alpha backers (based on forums not fact) are so angry. I too would be very angry and bitter over this. I was only a beta monthly subscriber, so my experience with NQ has only been since nov 2020, but it seems in my opinion, NQ's failure to communicate is deeper than others tried to explain. I hope this gets resolved for you. You are owed a direct response by NQ at the very least, not some guesswork by players, so I won't insult anyone by even attempting.
  22. Usually first for immersion. But I agree about using 3rd for landing, etc. Too Risky.
  23. It would be interesting if NQ released exact numbers of logins for the game at the end of each week. I know some people are still playing, and I know some people aren't. Much more said than that by anyone not a part of NQ is speculation.
