  1. Is it just me, or does it remind anyone else of this? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/232513019379318784/368503376989913088/unknown.png
  2. What lethys said is accurate in terms of how it works, and also in a large space battle even a small timer on despawning projectiles could cause server lag, and would create lots more stress on the node server architecture of having to simulate bullets and check for impacts rather than something being told that it has been impacted. Also, you will need people to man most turrets on ships anyways as it has been said AI targeting will have a drawback such as vastly reduced damage on a per turret basis. Also, if they had both but projectiles had small damage outputs, it would be near pointless for any ship to use them as lock and fire chance to hit will be based on what a projectile chance to hit would be affected by, as lethys said above.
  3. AFAIK, not currently. Just message the leader asking to decline it, or wait until it is accepted then leave. However, relatively soon there will be changes to the community portal, so you may be able to then, along with all of the other new and needs stuff that we think will be added.
  4. 1) currently for the pre-alpha, there is a 'creative' mode. However, it has been said that this will not make a return to the game once the pre alpha has ended (or whichever early access stage), so yes, you need to gather resources 2) AFAIK this is planned to be implemented before release, so yes, there will be 3) Yes 4) Players on-board ships will be drawn downwards relative to the gyroscope AFAIK: 5) I can't answer this one from memory accurately, but i think this may be planned for release
  5. While it will be a latecomer, features such as inter system travel will be implemented later than combat, as they will come after release afaik.
  6. NQ made a post about system requirements a while back, but I can't find it, but I remember that it was for the current build so it can change, and also some of the requirements were 16gb ram, an i5 processor at minimum, and an ssd might help. Oh, and a graphics card with at least 2gb vram
  7. There hasn't been any videos of that, have there? Also, I'm imagining that AvA will come with the beta, so sometime next year. We will likely get a video + tutorial thing beforehand.
  8. And ends with ~25. More coming soon to a sidebar near you.
  9. I'm sorry, but just no. You don't need to pay someone else to make sure you have enough money to buy something, that's called reading a number in your DU account, and following that with simple maths. Your idea of being a bank to store money just wont work, as people can store money in their DU account. And it doesn't have a risk of being stolen or scammed for there. If people want to make transactions, they click on things in their DU account, they don't use a slower method that charges fees. As for the investments, what lethys said. The only part of your organisation that people will want to use is maybe for loans. I wish you good luck trying to get people to use your services, and that is all I will say on the matter. Porc.
  10. Ok, so roughly what i understood from a loose translation, is that you want a SETI at home system for DU to improve performance. While better performance is nice, Apart from problems which lethys brought up, i can see another problem with that this would require so much extra development time from NQ to implement, and i doubt that a lot of people would use it, especially when they were playing DU, as they would what all of their computer to themselves when running it themselves.
  11. How will it be secure? Loans etc i understand, but unless money will be a physical object in game, there is literally no reason to put money away with a bank, and no reason for the bank to do it as interest will just make the bank loose money. How on earth will you enforce changes in discord reflecting in game transfers? Even if you could enforce it, you have to physical be at where the resources are to get them, unless you hire someone to bring them to you, costing people who use this service more. In game local markets will prosper for this reason. While i can see in game stocks in orgs becoming a thing through private investment groups such as luminous, i cant see why someone would do it through your system instead of contacting the organisation directly, as for a business, which you are, to profit, money has to be took from somewhere, so it is likely you would be charging a fee on top of it.
  12. Much NDA? Everything mentioned in the OP's post will be perfectly possible by all means in full release, no need for a pessimistic outlook on it.
  13. You heard it here first, this is who you go to to ask about that idiot condescend! Or maybe this is them here! Either way, why was one of your members spamming everyone with racial slurs and weak insults and threats?
  14. Latest poster, shaw. Latest. Not last. We got plenty more of this where that came from
  15. Tho would be rather cool to have, unfortunately I can't remember if NQ has said anything about this yet. Also, you can ask NQ directly via support ticket, they often answer quite quickly. The only potential problems I can see are server load and rotating things on static constructs.
  16. @namco, I know it's hard to do for you, but would you please stop imagining yourself as having more knowledge on the subject than the devs that made said subject in the first place. You just outright don't, so please do either the above, and accept that you are wrong so that everyone doesn't gave to keep replying to this thread, or if you won't accept that, just shut up and stop trying to fight your point on this thread. Either way, this thread is over as the debate has already been settled as to who is right, so please just close the salt gates already.
  17. Yes, what lethys said. There are already numerous ways of making a timelapse without implementing these bots that would likely be easily exploitable.
  18. Your first problem, is that's not my logic. You cant alt tab to discord while deployed in the middle east in an active combat zone. Irl not everyone has access to alternatives to newspapers, e.g. Lack of tech knowledge, not wanting to use data while doing something. Any political information that concerns you will be easier to access for you than having to go through dozens of threads to find it. How does someone not being in an organisation have anything to do with it? There might be something like a newspaper for DU, just on the internet. Not in DU.exe. Forums and reddit etc will fall into this category, as they have content on a topic with a viewpoint from the author, but they are better than newspapers because of the debate they bring, which shows all sides of an argument, with all the points from every side, leading to a less tunnel visioned view of the political landscape. What you are saying about how a free market would lead to the prefered source gaining more use is true, however this in no way is something that would only happen on a dedicated in game news service. And to answer your last question, if a player doesn't want to read stuff on the forums, then they can read it literally anywhere else that covers it. And who is saying more people would read something from an in game news thing than from the forums or any other place that they could get a wider range of viewpoints on the news for free compared to the in game cost? This will be my last reply to this topic as it seems I cant quite get you to grasp my point on some of these things, so wasting any more effort would be useless if its going no where.
  19. while NQ wouldn't put content in an in game newspaper, it would still cost them time and manpower to do and maintain. Also, in game newspapers and radios wouldn't be in demand at all. Reddit, the forums and just the general internet (think sites such as outpost zebra) would be used over an in game one 99% of the time as it would cover more stuff, and not cost the person wanting the news anything, and if a player needs to know something specific relating to their organisation, then they will use messaging within the involved parties. Same thing with the choosing a free, external option over an in game option that costs in game money for the radios, there won't be much demand for them at all. The only situations I can see someone using the radios for are as a novel item to use among friends for a few minutes, or if someone with an extremely low end pc relative to DU specs couldn't run DU while any major applications are open apart from DU.
  20. First of all, the game servers will be wiped before main launch. As for the tutorials covering current politics and such, that's just not NQ's job. There will be plenty of things on the internet that will tell you everything you will need to know at the time. Same goes for travel time and distances, the most NQ needs to do for that imo is maybe a current distance between planets (Sorry guys, cant remember if they change or not) on a system / star map IF they implement that. Newspapers would also fall into the category of not NQ's job and a thing that will come about in various forms on the internet anyways. You don't need an in game communications capable of coordinating ~3000 players, things like discord and teamspeak CAN be used for that through groups, roles and different channels, i would like to see you explain how they couldn't. If discord integration is supported, then you can change voice channels from in game as well. An in-game radio communication system would just add extra unneeded complexity, as well as meaning the devs have more stuff to work on that they don't 100% need. Also, there is no way that an empire would have no way of communicating with it's members if an in game comms system went down. Any organisation that has got as big as you are saying wouldn't be sane if they only relied on an in game thing that CAN be disrupted over an external thing that CAN'T (excluding alts and traitors/defectors here) be disrupted. That leads me on to how 'hacking' and spying to disrupt will exist anyways even if an in game thing wasn't implemented, through those alts and traitors and all that stuff.
  21. Also, due to there being many aspects of this game that are non pvp, for example games inside games (think DICE), i suspect that DU may not go down that route. Granted, it may happen for combat ships, but there is no guarantee for anything else. Also, in the long run, DU could cover such a vast range of play styles, that smaller groups would just be able to ignore larger organisations and get by on their own.
  22. Compress files, or send a link to imgur or something along the lines of that.
  23. Maybe showing all of the discord messages sent, from start where your brother started trying to authorise his account to just before you got banned, and that would prove yamamushi right.
