  1. JC simply started out with one vision and then had his ear bent and tried to change that direction. It just doesn't work.
  2. Middle of the year we should know either way, dead or moving forward. I can't say which I feel will happen to the game. But I do think they may be pandering to the wrong player set.
  3. Always said a wipe would be the best thing for it and I still believe that to be the case.
  4. This forum doesn't seem too bad to me.
  5. I certainly don't see DU as realistic. Edit: also I don't see it as arcade.
  6. The way I got answers to these questions is simply by asking them (FDev) via support. Putting of course 'is this a true statement'. Planets and travel were my main questions. So no, you have to jump to get from system to system. And no, planets are not full size in ED. They have confirmed both of these things via replies to direct questions I sent. It's easy, ask them directly yourself. I would add, this does not make the game any less enjoyable. However it is nice to know if certain things they say are true or not.
  7. ED is boxes/instances the same as most space games. There is no huge universe unless you jump/warp to the next box/instance. The only game I know of with no walls and a true huge universe is Space Engineers, but in the early stages they had lots of issues with the game becoming unstable at extreme distances. However they have worked very hard to make the game more stable, I've travelled extreme distances in SE and still not had issues for the last two years or so, it really is huge. Starmade had a try at auto skybox changes for travel, so the player felt they travelled seamlessly and the background changed, but it was janky and not very good. The X series was terrible for a box'y feel, running into walls etc. However they got around this with the 'highway' mode, which isn't too bad, it is basically the same as ED's, it feels more seamless, although it isn't seamless, but it works o.k. Out of all the games that use boxes/instances ED is the best at concealing the change (imo). SE doesn't have to do changes, because your always in the same space, even if you use the jump drive, it simply pushes you further along in the same space your in. However for the best experience in SE, remove the skybox and just have 'black' with the PG asteroids, plus planets you place out you'll feel more in space than any other game.. try it, it works really great. Edit: Regards speed, they will have to have a speed limit, or the game could be very unstable. SE is set very low at 100m/s, I make the adjustments in the config files to make that a maximum of 2500m/s, the game remains very stable at that. I have travelled a lot faster in SE right upto 10,000m/s and the game seems o.k. But I prefer to keep it down. However 100m/s in SE is far too low, so you do need to adjust that.
  8. Yeah I can see it being annoying. Lets hope they hear him here. Although I'm not holding my breathe.
  9. I tried to get further in i.e. my personal account and it allowed edit etc. But it may be a different thing for early backers not sure, but the link seems to work right the way through for me. Can't think of anything that it might be other than firewall or a detection software issue perhaps. That or they don't want to speak to you.
  10. I got in using Firefox. Did you forget your password ? Anyway seems to work for me. Oh, & I agree with what you said.
  11. I've been playing SE sinse it came out in early access late 2013 and still play. The game is by far the best building space game out there (just my opinion). Thing is it filled its agenda, engineer and build things in space.. simple. There is survival mode in SE, none in DU. Survival mode makes SE hard, but rewarding at the right balance. DU is just pretty boring with no real reward. I know there is a section of the DU community mostly ex Landmark folk who think the game can last on voxelmancy design alone, unfortunately the game will likely go the same way as Landmark, died because a lack of players can't keep a mmo game ticking over. It's a shame, because this game needs all the aspects it was intended to have, pvp, player economy, to mention a couple. But it released far too early into beta (the game is still alpha quality), it has great promise, but will possibly fall before that promise can be materialised. Sad.
  12. I know, you should resign immediately. ;)
  13. Your here playing the game.. So am I. Difference is, I understand we're still in early access, you have got into the mind set of the game is released. But it isn't yet.
  14. No, just wipe it. Honestly, I think the game will probably get wiped ready for full release. Players playing should expect that this may happen, because as said.... Early Access.. We're here to test the game.
  15. When I said too much to lose, I didn't mean money. My whole game collection is from early access. I get into games early if I like what they are trying to achieve. I also know 'not' to take anything they (the devs) say as 'in stone'. Dev changes will happen when they least think it will, because its the players playing early access that brings up game problems, it would be impossible without players playing and testing a game, even triple 'A' titles have testers. I always expect changes, in my view the game, when finally released, which I think is some way off yet, however, I think it would benefit from a wipe to start afresh and inject new players with the game at a stable stage, not as it is now.
  16. If you think you have too much to lose, then you really shouldn't play early access games.
  17. Its also not really valid to put a game into beta whilst clearly still only Alpha. Its also not valid for players to cry about changes in early access games, you have to expect to get any type of change, including a wipe to the whole game. Just the way dev goes. DU isn't released we're all in it early, even in beta.
  18. But the game is in Beta, not full release. They said they 'hope' not to have to wipe the game. I just think it would help because the game really is still Alpha, from what I have experienced. They released into beta too early. In early access games, expect the unexpected.
  19. I agree, Orgs will always do well, but that is the Eve side of the game. I stopped playing Eve some time ago, not because of orgs, but for the freedom of building my own ships. That for me is the thing that brings me to these games. I really don't mind orgs doing well, I just don't want to be part of that side of the game.
  20. Way more people play SE, there isn't a comparison really. I've been playing SE for 6yrs or so, since first available. It seems stronger now than ever. The SE update vid recently got 4000 live views, DU got 800 live views at the max, it shocked me really. It really should be the other way around for a new game, there should be much more interest in a new game than a game 6yrs old. But there isn't. I played DU, I enjoyed it for a while, but SE & even Empyrion, out shine DU, for me anyway. I hope DU wipe the game and make the changes it needs. They should not have come out of Alpha, it was too early with still too much to put in place. If they get everything where they want then wipe the game, then I believe, the game will be reborn. I play all these space based voxel games, I love them. SE, Empyrion, Starmade, Starship Evo, DU even Minecraft in space. But I also want them to survive.
