P2P is my favorite way to fund this game, simply because I can understand how hard it is for developers to develop if they have to work another job just to make ends meat. I just look at it in the fashion that, if you want frequent updates that mean something, then you have to be willing to dish out the dough to make it possible for the devs to focus solely one making this game as good as it can possibly be, and I say this as a broke college kid, so I get why paying this kind of premium is threatening, I just think it's a necessary evil.

I think the only real early game groups will be akin to corporations, as we just don't have the manpower or community "one-ness" to form any such ruling bodies. However, I have no plans to base my play on governmental rules, as I relish the anarchy, but do see the necessity to have laws in the future, as I need someone to rebel against.

My impression is that we will be pushed to travel interstellar space as we deplete worlds of resources.
Apparently, we will be able to set up TUs in space... I'm guessing the range of Arkification for a bubble territory in space will be quite controversial.

Part of the challenge of the game will be maintaining a safe zone for months or years.
Once we  move past a solar system, we should be able to find remote locales off the beaten path.
But, who knows what kinds of scanners people will discover or develop.
It may be that marauders eventually come hunting your world for resources or other loot. And I expect there to be a means for rivals to de-Arkify territories.
You'll just have to try to acquire a new Arkification token before others encroach on your territory.

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in here and say any in-game VOIP should be at the lowest of the low priority over anything.

As a player who's played many many games that have Voip i've always chosen TS over them. Don't get me wrong, i don't dislike in-game voip it's just that it doesn't beat TS at all in anything other than immersion and talking to people who you don't know.

Local chatting between friends is not the priority i would put on voip but talking to strangers is, people who know each other will generally always have a method of communicating outside of the game and will prefer that, but strangers you meet will have nothing.

A system i would like for voip would be a 'sizeable' area around the player (that can be totally muted too) that allows listen and chat, so the player chooses both the distance they can hear and speak.
If players are outside this area then they could have a form of notification or speech bubble above their head indicating that they are speaking within your hearing range but you have selected to not hear that distance. People speaking within your range could maybe have a notification too so you know who's talking to you.

Improvements to equipment could possibly increase the range you can talk hear at.

I personally won't use any in-game voip other than to talk to strangers on the odd occasion as i'm a voice-activated TS user and muting one to talk on the is bother to me.

I do believe there will be asteroids and the like within the universe, though I don't have any confirmation on that from the devs. However, it'd simply make more sense for something like this to exist in such a game.

guttertrash reacted to Shynras in Vocal notification
So, I think the game would be way more fun, enjoyable and immersive, if we could use vocal notifications. First of all, what I'm talking about? Imagine you could set with lua some kind of sensors, that would react to a certain event, and the defensive system would activate. Then with a vocal notification, we would hear "Defensive System Activated". Or maybe just to create a system that automatically says "Welcome to Bananaville" every time a player cross the entrance of your city.

Of course, I'm not talking about registering our voice, and use those files ingame, that would not be ideal for the players and neither for devs.

A vocal assistant like the one we have in Elite Dangerous would be cool, but it's not really what I'm asking for.
I'm asking for a "Text to Speech" software. So pretty much like google translate, if you ever used it. You write what you want on your LUA program, and then a certain API, would make the game read that with a voice. Usually that voice is robotic, so it would even fit.

Try it if you want https://translate.google.com/

I like to think of myself as a Privateer in a coalition of like-minded individuals.  Our role (as I see it) is to keep balance in the Universe acting as independent operators smuggling goods, and providing services when needed, and "distributing" the wealth when it becomes too concentrated in for form of piracy (like futuristic Robin Hoods).

The beauty of this idea is that within this cooperative people can play the game any way they want, and even change roles without abandoning the core principals of the group.  Tell me if I'm wrong...

could be interesting feature to have options to sell a use license of a script/ship or buying the distribution rights...

I like the idea of things in safe zones just logging off and disappearing or whatever, and things in dangerous zones being left floating to be pillaged by anyone lucky enough to stumble across it.

If i leave my space ship laying around in the danger zone i should expect to log back in and re-spawn in a safe zone with empty pockets and only vague memories of a ship i once had.

persistent sandbox to me means you better hide or get safe if you want things to be there when you get back.

guttertrash reacted to Archer in What happendes when you log off?
Personally I think it should be possible to make some assets disappear when you log out, particularly since it sounds like the devs plan to make it take a long time to become space-capable.  Suppose you start off at the ark, secure enough resources to build an aircraft and fly off to explore the rest of the planet carrying basically everything you own between the aircraft and your backpack inventory.  Flying off into space to hide in the middle of nowhere isn't an option for an atmospheric craft; the best you can do is either fly all the way back to the safe zone or try your luck with some secluded place on the planet.  Here is an approach I would take:

Presumably FTL drives will require limitations for similar reasons.  Start by figuring out what works here and apply the same restrictions to vanishing ships on logout.  The obvious system here would be a charge-up delay that can be interrupted by an attack or the ship attempting any action.

Set a permission flag to determine who is and isn't authorized to take the ship with them when they log out.  This way you can set any ship you build yourself as a personal asset and take it with you when you log out, though when you fly a ship for an organization when you log out the ship is still available to other members as needed.  This would be a situation where an autopilot would be useful, programming a guild ship to either fly back home or fly off into hiding if its crew logs off.  If someone does borrow an organization ship for an extended mission then special permission might be granted.

Don't allow a ship to vanish when any other players are on board, hostile or friendly.  This way you can't just jump away from a boarding party or leave your allies stranded in space (unless of course you can airlock them all first).  If, however, a multiplayer ship is flagged for a single owner then it can still vanish if the entire crew disconnects to make sure the ship isn't lost to some regional internet issues, server problems or very bad luck.  Also don't allow it to vanish if someone else's assets are stored on board, for example if a crew member has their own shuttle sitting in the hangar.

Finally, set each ship to check for all of the above conditions whenever the owner force logs or disconnects.  Basically the ship will automatically attempt to vanish if all of the requirements are satisfied with all of the same limitations.  If the pilot of a single seater disconnects then it can basically try to vanish immediately; if it is interrupted by combat then it will try again repeatedly until it is successful or destroyed.  If the owner of a multiplayer ship disconnects then the crew can keep on fighting and/or try to retreat.  Once the immediate fight is over the crew doesn't have to worry about keeping someone else's ship safe; they can split up and the ship will vanish on its own.

Cops has been disbanded. Sorry for wasting your time. This was a lone decision by Kiklix and does not reflect the other legate lady astrum nor the members.

The following are the answers to why COPS has been disbanded.

Drama:  Certain populous organizations and their legate have been concocting rumors about COPS. Legates from other some what populous organizations have made assumptions about COPS and presented these as facts. In every case these people are wrong and only serve to create drama. There is no reason for all the hate I have received and COPS has received. I am done 'playing' with a community full of children.

COPS - Coalition Of Pirates & Smugglers.   The arkships landed. We woke anew, scared, unsure. Groups formed, factions aligned. Power corrupted. For all the efforts to save our species, the millennia we traveled, we reverted almost instantly back to that old human nature. Not even extinction could change our habits, our instinct.   We have all been there. Watching and witnessing the mega-corporations metastasize and feed off the livelihood of the less fortunate. Class warfare, poverty, slavery...being forced to work by some clown sitting at the top of his ivory tower barking commands. I’ve had enough of it, most likely so have you. It’s time to break from those chains and live a free life. It ain’t easy, ain’t too much glory, but it’s honest (for the most part) and fair.  We are a coalition, a collaboration,  a consortium, a conspiracy, a communion,  a clan, a crew, a club, a confederation, a confederacy collecting cohorts connected, conjoined, combining efforts to be a free people, free from tyranny, terror and totalitarianism.       WHAT IT'S LIKE:   Ever want to pilot the Millenium Falcon? Ever dream to have a crew who works together like Firefly? You want to be that solo guy who searches for bounties like Boba Fett and his Slave I?   This is how we dream to play and we intend to play this way. However Dual may require efforts from a  larger group. If this is true, we just want to have a system in place so that people can come together to fullfill their visions. We want solo play, but under the safety net of a larger organization.     WHAT WE ARE NOT:   We are NOT GRIFERS. COPS are pirates, smugglers, outcasts, ninjas, mercenaries in the ROLE play sense, NOT in the griefing sense.
THE BREAKDOWN:   • Enrollment: Some will get invited, some will inquire. If you want to be part of a free alliance just ask.
    • Primary language: English and gibberish.
    • Timezone: Only mega corps keep up with time.
    • Goal:  Solo or co-op gameplay within a larger group. We all like to do our own thing, but somtimes you need to be part of something larger or you will get left behind.
COPS is an organization created and designed to bring together like minded people who prefer to play solo without constraints of typical guild requirements (be here on X day, at Y time to raid Z...ya its tiresome).  We realize people have limited time to play and that real life takes place first. That being said, Dual Universe looks like this might be a game where cooperation and collaberation are keys to success. If we find this to be true, there might be more expected collaborative gamplay required. We don’t want to force anything on anyone, but just ask people to step up if it is required to do so.  In the end it’s not about making a large guild rich, its about making sure your needs are met, our mutal needs are met. We endevor to create an enviroment where co-op game play is actually fun and rewarding.
SO WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?   • Security: Safety in numbers.
    • Community: A network of people to work together with if so desired.
    • Freedom: Free to play your way but with the undertanding that freedom requires effort and work. There will be times we need to work together, its the only way to keep an alliance strong.
    • A Trade network. Not sure how Dual is going to work with trade, but within a group there will be communication lines. We will be able to trade with each other and help keep our alliance strong.
    • Veteran ship builders: We have members who have crafted some of the finest voxel ships to ever exist.  Our fleet will impress, this I can promise.
    • Veteran home builders: We have members who have crafted some of the finest voxel sci-fi mega structures to exist. Our home world wont look like a cut rate hostel.
    • PVP: Lets face it, even if you only care for PVE, PVP might and will happen at some point. If you intend to fly in a ship, once you are out of the ark safe zone, pvp will happen. We intend to create smart ship designs that will help to ensure pvp victories, but you will need to know how to fly it.
    • PVE: We know some people have no interest in PVP. Hopefully we can get a civilization started with trade, harvesters, crafters etc. It’s good to have folks who specialize in these categories.
    • Exploring: It’s at the heart of Dual Universe, of course we will explore!
    • If i can be done in Dual, we intend on experiencing that content in one way or another.
GOVERNMENT:   Don’t really intend on having some massive over inflated group of power hungry people running the show. I have no interest in that, however there does need to be a head or some form. Castles have kings, homes have breadwinners. Even a pack of wolves looks to their Alpha. I intend on holding the main key of power or have it distributed among a very close group of friends. Those who know me know I fight tooth and nail for the little guy, for honesty and integrity. I have no intent on telling you how to play or what to do...but internal conflicts will occur and those will need to be resolved. We want everyone to be happy and to play together...its the best recipe for success.

If COPS sounds like a style of gamplay that you find appealing, speak to Kiklix or LadyAstrum.

So i love eve online, and space engineers so obviously when i learned this existed i had a bit of a mishap in my pantaloons from the excitement.

I've created an organization called Blackguard Coalition.  Its an homage to a great leader who was taken from too soon. The great Tyra Blade, a voracious warrior who's name to this day stirs feelings of anxiety all through the ring of cloud and great wild lands of eve.

Other facts about me that may interest you:

I'm way older than most people would believe if i told them, so I stopped telling people how old i am.  Ancient, i'm ancient, i'm old enough that i can say racist things on a bus and no one calls me out on it, i don't do that but i could get away with it, i'm saying i'm old ok.  I may or may not be invincible, so far all attempts to kill me by man or by disease have failed.  I ate a bear, the whole bear, well ok not the bones and hair and such, and it took a few tries to get through it.  I once had an elephant, ok that's not a fact about me its a lie, but i wish i had an elephant, elephants are cool. so i guess the fact is "I think elephants are cool" which is totally true.
