All they need are tasty asteroids out in the wilderness of PVP space and bob's your uncle:

Miners will mine, guards will guard and marauders... will... errr... maraud. This is the sort of thing that has been missing so far...

If any asteroids are present in the safe zones, they should contain T1 only...

It’s a plan but I feel we need more than that. Blaze was right in saying we need PVE players to feed PVP. At the same time PVE players should need pvpers to create danger and also to take some of that danger away through protection or missions for pvpers to take on for them. Even if it’s to haul through danger space because warp is now not that easy of an option.

Sure and I have no problem here.

That said though, there is nothing here that says "if you want to stand a chance in PVP space bring friends and you must carry weapons". The forever cry babies aside for a moment, the game needs proper counter measure to create a calculated risk you can choose to take allowing a chance to evade/escape an attack without the need to engage in combat. And we know these are coming so I'm not sure what the point is unless you are directing this at those that still seem to not get the fact that combat PVP is a thing in DU..

We can only hope NQ will eventually bring balance to combat PVP for all walks of DU life ..

Agreed on the counter measures. At the same time ship durability needs a nerf bat swing or a damage buff to weapons. Also I’m sure there is 100 ways to make smaller pvp ships viable, but we need at least 1 of them to be implemented.

Most importantly of all, we need a WHY pvp.

In terms of what actually happened. We didn't need better guards and the only mistake made yesterday was mine. I assumed BOO wasn't coming based on discussions with Deravi and I assumed Blitz would bring some star wars ships to have fun. Deravi has a lose connection with BOO uses their beacon etc so I advised Mulligan that Atom pilots could take part in the event and we didn't need all of AC to guard the Star Wars ships. It was a casual miscalculation and opened the door to be trolled. We were unsure right up until end and we had some intel that BOO might come but I dismissed it. Had AC formed properly BOO probably wouldn't have the numbers to do much even with a few Havoc ships. Given the state of game and the armor on the SD wasn't made to deal with meta L cores it still would have died. I could have also just not taken the SD out but content is better than no content as I've stated for all public fleets. That's what actually happened.

Demlock formed BOO for this because for the last major event they didn't get any numbers so he effectively rage pinged because BOO wants to stay 'relevant' in DU because they don't pvp and when they do they hide behind rivers of gold and it takes them weeks to recover and they can't actually stand up to the AC who had most of its pilots in the event or not online because we assumed they weren't coming. If all of Atom had its ships there with Hyperion, Shield, STC, and the rest of AC formed they probably wouldn't have even bothered trying to come get a cheap star destroyer kill.

So spin away but that's what actually happened.

@ Johnny calm your farm boy and stop being so toxic you don't even log in anymore bro. No need to swear and hurf blurf so much. Everyone loves star wars and your comments about it being bad were proven completely false I've had numerous groups thank me for organizing it and they had fun.

@ BOO pilots stop trying to explain yourself or justify your actions with nonsense about its a pvp zone or the ships should have been meta or whatever other nonsense. The event was organised as a non meta pvp event fully knowing it could be trolled.  You came to the event to troll and crash the event that's legit. Own it. Just be chill and classy about it instead of being a bunch of toxic keyboard warriors attacking people for enjoying the game they want to play it. Swearing, calling the event 'Gay' or "Sh#ting on Role players. There just isn't any need for it. Be classy about it. You can still play big bad wolf without sounding like a redneck bigot.

Lastly the behavior of some people on here and on the event discord channels is probably the only thing that disappoints me. Save it for the meme server if you have to behave like that to feel good about yourself.

See you at the next public fleet.

    Devian, BlackBriar Mercenary Inc

Why lie? Almost as bad as AC using exploits to match BOO at the event.... At least BOO can hold their head high and play legit.

With much warmth, the phrasing in this post is a tad sensationalized. Nobody is being forced to do anything. :P Yes, we have rules about how to conduct ourselves while using our NQ Dual Universe accounts, but the rules are not all that surprising, unique or scandalous. They're also public, as I see some forumers have already quoted our official communications about 'em here.

We are encouraged to interact with the community in-game. We just can't participate in certain aspects of gameplay like, for example, joining a player Organization under our NQ names. Doing so would absolutely cause negative ripples re: favoritism. I can imagine it now... players coming to me with things like:

"Why did you join their Org and not ours? What do they have that we don't? I'm sus."
    - "NQ is signaling support for one Org over another, officially, and that's not fair - look at how much recognition they're getting! Why can't my Org receive official backing!!?? What's really going on here?"
    - "Omg, what special advantages is NQ giving that Org that we won't get?! I bet they'll be fed insider knowledge about the next patch!!1 They must have friends in high places...
    " etc.

Please also consider that our accounts are "fully loaded"/have "God Mode" abilities, which would give staff an unfair advantage (within the context of regular play) no matter how you slice it. It makes sense to me that we'd want to maintain a firm boundary between staff and player accounts to avoid any conflicts of interest or cries of unjust behavior.

Someone, somewhere will find a way to take issue with whatever any game dev staff choose to do or not do in-game. It's just how the cookie crumbles in MMO-land. We have personal accounts we play on to experience the game as you all do. I personally paid for a subscription, because I strongly agree with the point that products must be thoroughly explored and understood by the employees that touch them. :)

PS - This was a valid and interesting subject to bring up, and I appreciate that you have all remained civil about it. Disagreeing with the rules we lay out is fine, and I hope my two cents provided some clarity. Keep those critical thinking caps on!

As far as I know the rules only apply to the main production server. As for PTS, the gloves are off and NQ can get in the gunner seats *hint hint* ?

I also beleive this is the case but how do you know this information? I didn't think they played at all tbh. If they even played solo they would feel the pain, certainly as a new player.

It’s true. NQ policy is they cannot be part of any org or group etc. NQ also ensure they do not run any risk of being accused of favouritism.

Edit: explained from an NQ post with yamamushi.

We would also like to take this opportunity to explain what are our internal rules when a member of our community becomes a Novaquark employee:

    1. His/her personal accounts are suspended for the time he/she is a Novaquark employee.

    2. He/she is given an anonymous player account so he/she could still continue to play the game, however, some specific rules apply to such an account:
        a. The Novaquark employee behind should not reveal his/her real identity and/or he’s part of the company.
        b. He/she shouldn’t join a player-run organization with this account either, for neutrality reasons.

    3. He/she is given a NQ account, mostly to test things, and occasionally to communicate with the community in-game (if such opportunity arises). Nothing done on this account (coming usually with more powers/rights than a player account) will be transferred on any personal account.

We know that the Mining Efficiency +5% ore extracted talent isn't working properly. Other threads have reported this, and NQ have said via twitter that they changed the talent. However they didn't say what they changed the talent to, even after persistent asking. Could it be +1% or +0.5% per talent level? It still says +5% in game, which is quite unfair to players who choose to train this, and who are unaware that it doesn't work.

In another thread in these forums, there were many wild ideas about what the talent did. So after rolling my eyes at this, @Billy_Boolaand I decided to do the obvious:

    • Scan a hex and record the ore value. Call this S (in kilo-litres).
    • Mine a known amount of ore. Call this m.
    • Re-scan the hex and see how much ore remains. Call this s.
    • Repeat until bored.

The data we recorded is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kIquhrbSAllViRFlCqtxtfS0SJCq76FWpgiyt1u6jr8/edit#gid=0

Yes we got bored fairly quickly. (Mining boring?!)

The talent as written says that

    • (S-s)(1+xT) = m

where T is the talent level (0-5), and x is the (for the purposes of this experiment) unknown +x% level of ore added per talent level. 0.01=1%.

If the above is correct then we can estimate x via:

    • x=(m/(S-s)-1)/T  for any talent level >0.

The data in the above spreadsheet does this for n=30 datapoints. The results are:

    • Sample mean = -0.0011 (4 d.p.)
    • Sample standard deviation = 0.0060
    • 95% confidence interval for the true value of x = (-0.0033, 0.0012)

Conclusion: The Mining Efficiency talent most likely adds ZERO ore per talent level.

    Notes:

    • There is some noise (rounding) in the data as scans report ore in KL to 2 d.p. and only more when the ore amount is low. I'm too lazy to attempt to account for this.
    • We have no idea if the territory scan amount accurately represents the amount in the hex
    • I didn't attempt to see if there were any variations via planet, ore tier, player(!) or a different +x% amount per tier level.

Would it be worth testing with these methods using an avatar with 0 mining talents and comparing results?

Getting your talent points back and having blueprints of your constructs will be quite the "compensation". Your experience so far wil allow you to rebuild pretty quickly. Also for NQ, doing a wipe may well be a good move commercially when you need to carry blueprint son you as many who left may resub to do that.

I honestly expect the number of players returning and/or those staying will far outweigh the few that will leave..

Mine for me so I can recover the blueprints and you got a deal ?

There are no counter-measures to pirates. If they catch you, you die. There is no way of escaping. Arming a hauler is also not viable as they can out-gun you.

Warp is the only option for safe travel.

Player-driven police force doesn't make sense - it would be unprofitable

There is no real punishment for piracy, no jail, no perma-death, not even reputation. Even if a pirate dies, he just respawns.

Even in the current system this is untrue, this actually leads to another problem. A bad ship for pvp zone take seconds / minutes to kill, a ship built for the zone can take hours to kill and thousands and thousands of L rounds...

  9. 3 minutes ago, Moosegun said:

That is not strictly true though, the pirate gets to choose the engagement and is generally not going into the fight risking cargo, if you are entering fights with the same risk then you are doing it wrong.  There is nothing wrong with that though, pirates throughout history have preyed on the weak / undefended, they are PIRATES ffs.  NEVER in history did a pirate have a choice between attacking a whaler and a frigate and chosen the frigate.

Yep but without good intel a lot of people will not know their target is a hauler or a warship until they are already in lock range.

  10. No risk to pirates ?? Pirates accept the same risk as anyone else including haulers since they can be attacked by anyone else... including other pirates not just military forces.

So far vast majority of haulers out there are designed for 2 things, hybrid lift of weight and warp as cheap as possible. When people finally have a need to adapt they will stop hauling with paper airplanes

Either his observations/math are wrong or we are all being fooled by the scanner giving incorrect reports.

Out of all the ppl reporting their findings he's the first one I read about getting less ore then the scan shows, everyone else is getting more ore.

How many have tested scan results with 0 dredger talents? Is there a chance the scan results are 0.75 of actual?
