CosmicDragon got a reaction from Vyz Ejstu in Core Units
What do you guys think that the difference between a static core and a dynamic core are? At first I thought that "dynamic" is for a ship or something that would move like dynamic location (although now I think about it, it sounds like a really strange way of putting it), but then some of the comments made by JC wouldn't make sense for example when he talks about making the station move in the gameplay video he says it would just be a matter of putting engines on (although I could be remembering wrong, probably go watch that again after I post this), and when he talks about constructs not being anything until you build them out in other interviews (XPGamers, I think, again memory :\ ). So I believe that you can toggle between the two states to make a zone editable or not.  If you don't know what a core unit is the latest 3D artwork posted on the DU twitter and is was said to be the first block of any construct. And if this is me being dumb, let me know.
But then again the tweet reads "different types and sizes of core unit" So I am not sure again, why would you need different sizes, unless that is what controls total build area, but a selling point for this game is unlimited build space.

I would love to see this in DU. I would add that at some point in the leveling of the skill that it becomes possible to separate parts of your own map to sell off. Not just a selected area, but also the different elements like scans from different altitudes, with different types of scanners, and the ability to tell whether the map was made from an orbital scan or some ranger shloging though the entire area, the ability to exclude specific constructs within the maps area (like a friendly/allied base or outpost), and recalling earlier posts, creating custom markers on the sold map.  It would also be cool if jobs could be assigned that ask a player to reveal a section of a map, like a scouting mission or something.

CosmicDragon got a reaction from Vyz Ejstu in How do you plan your ships?
First I pick a role for what I want to design, then I look at concept art from the game to see if there is any useful information to be gleaned. Then I decide on what class (size) of ship that would be fun to think about fulfilling chosen role. Bust out the pencil and paper, pick aesthetic for hull, draw, at least two angles very rough interior overlay showing potentially where you want things to go. Speculate about the thrust capacity of titan-class engine elements. Add in cool features, while hoping that the elements required will be actual things in game. Refresh the Dual Universe youtube page, twitter, and devblog, and forums out of hope. Speculate some more. Wildy speculate otherwise known as day dream. Come back to reality. Use the blank space on the paper to define how you want your, mighty starship/meek unassuming freighter/mech battle suit/magical unicorn merry go round, to move and why, add appropriate elements.  Then huzzah! It's a thing potentially capable of coming to life(ish) in DU. But I am sure there is more I could do...

No, let's add an actually huge map in the game. Make it like, a giraffe's print in the captin's cabin and make it like, glowing and stuff, and make it like, have those little soldiers, that you move with a stick to where you are going to attack and stuff abnd then add colors to them to punk your opposition's team's colors and stuff.

CosmicDragon reacted to Anaximander in SUBSCRIPTION - Please don't make the game Free-to-Play.
As Einstein said, and this is true story : "Pay-to-Play is the only thing keeping the Universe together ~ George Washington"

Please don't make the game Free-to-Play, because as the industry has proven, every game going free-to-play ends up being ignored after 3 months of its release because it's consider another rip-off "generic koean MMO big-boobs female models" MMO that came out Korea's MMO factory-assembly machine.

As we are lucky, their crank on that machine has broken as of late and the flow has halted. Thank you Black Desert for that, perhaps you put the nail to the Korean MMO genre coffin. Lineage 2 kept you one foot out of the grave for all those years.

So, make the game Pay-to-Play.  Why? Because, as our adversaries on the Free-to-Play front have done, I'm going to providei inaccurate statements that may seem legit.

a ) Pay-to-Play helps NASA : Have you ever looked into NASA's budget? Neither have I, but I can tell with certainty, that they have aliens found and locked up in Area 51.

b )Lizard poople ruling the world . Have you seen one? EXACTLY, they hide very well.

c ) Who let the dogs out? UH?! Woof, woof-woof woof-woof!

    d) The fact 15 USD is a researched price of subscription that in 2004 seemed affordable and on this day, with all the inflation goin g on, is actually costing more like 8 dollars in 2004 money. But hey, don't stop economics science stop you.

As you can see, my years in drinking beer over my blood-alcohol level capacities, lead to some pretty constructive criticism of the Fre-to-Play model.

In all seriousness though, we need access to Area 51.

If any Free-2-Play people has anything to say, see this video first. Spoiler alert, I'm a Honey Badger.

There is a big difference between people who interact with other players from those that just want to build in seclusion and not have to deal with other players ever.

Someone who makes things to sell on the market is different than the person who wants OP protections for themselves because they want to build alone and never worry about someone griefing them.

Sure flying around by yourself to populated places is one thing, it's a wholly different topic to go a step further and want to be able to do everything by yourself without ever seeing another person.

The game should not tailor to people who never want to deal with pvp and don't want to put the effort into defending themselves appropriately.

The same goes for survival mechanics. One of the big gripes against survival mechanics was how it would affect solo players. That's partly why the food and survival thread was overwhelmingly negative.

It is going to be a multiplayer game, that's the whole point. There should be disincentivesent for trying to do everything yourself. Whether it is building a space ship, or trying to fly a giant ship by yourself.

Too many people who want battleships all to themselves with this idea that they can just code (in Lua no less) away the need for crews and other players. I've heard countless times people talking about automating combat drones and just trying to run massive fleets by themselves.

I am entirely against the concept of running massive fleets by yourself. It will cheapen the whole experience for everyone if that ends up being the way battles are fought, instead of crews in ships and manned fighter craft.

When it comes to solo fleets. Just say no.

They will have a lot of protection from the owners of the trading hub tho. Good luck trying to break into a place, with Cthulu knows how many people there trading, most of them being firm believers in the Second Ammendment. Good luck running a heist with your 20 men group, fighting against a 1,000 people who carry arms for their protection.

And that is, if the trading hub isn't protected by Arkification, set up by the oweners themselves in the first place to avoid anyone killing anyone in the trading hub.

Would a natural disaster that destroys buildings and constructs, effect the Arkified zone around the ark ship? Personally I think it would be fine if it did, but I got the impression that that zone is supposed to be where someone can build something and not have it destroyed, or is the arkzone ment to be a simple non-combat zone?

As for the storms I think that would be very cool as well, when at early stages you have to wait for the weather to clear up or risk systems failures onboard your ship.

Are you an android trying to fool the Blade Runners? Cause EVE is HEAVILY instanced and EVE has free expansions. You seem to miss the point of an expansion not being applicable on a procedural game, then you bring up a game with Free Expansions due to its PLEX + Subscription Pay-2-Play model to prove me wrong, which it didn't, so, what you are saying is that only Pay-to-Play is the best option. You know, those "expansions" you described? They are called game updates, adding new features and tweaking old ones.

Thank you for reinforcing my points. You failed the Turing Test though.

    No. Please just... no.

Minerals will be rare, therefore alloys will be rare, therefore two ships might be the exact same model, but one of them has a stronger armor around it.

But notice, there's a thing called "mass", and the stronger a metal is, the heavier it is. Metaphors like titanium do not apply, as you can make something so much light before starting to lose material strength in the process.

So, your "rare" ships, won't be rare, they will be expensive. High prices make things rare.

If you mean Leg0ndariez and Ep1x, please, no, no. That's a WoW idea and it doesn't belog in DUAL, where you lose items upon death (partially at least).

You can't have "soul-bound" items in a sci-fi game, unless the devs add a science into souls, to which point, I DEMAND a pyromancer skill tree and spaceships firing shadowbolts.

I got bored and decided to start working out rough plans for possible ships that my organisation would start developing when the game becomes live. The are low poly and crappy quality but they give the rough idea of what I want to build.

The first(well second) ship I have developed is a mining barge. Its purpose is to fend off attacking enemies and store the materials that the small miners collect. It also serves as a carrier to move the small miners long distances with its FTL drive.

    Fitment of the ship:
Has 2 large cannon turrets and one medium sided cannon turret(Not sure if these weapons will be available its just how I designed the ship)
3 large cargo tankers to store the materials collected by the miners
Large radar array to communicate with the miners and scan the area for enemies

Shows the material tanks and the bridge of the carrier

The two large turrets and the engine array

Size comparison from small miner to carrier (Note: the small miner will seat 1-2 persons)

    Thanks for your input

Would you have to build the ring while it orbits the planet you want it around, or could maybe a bunch of organizations pull an ISS, and each build a section before moving it by either its own hyperdrive, or in some massive space truck (whose own construction would probably be just as complex/time consuming).
