Shaman Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Currently, there is no real way to freeze your ship in space, flying with an agg, or in a place with no land like the ocean. The only method I know of is to activate your emergency controller and then fly away until it automatically freezes, which is very jarring, tedious and unreliable. This can pose a problem as it makes parked AGG ships more likely to fall out of the sky, space only docking very difficult (even with the new features), or simply just making your ship risk falling to its demise when you temporarily leave, without constructs or terrain to stand on I propose this: The anchor unit Comes in 4 sizes; each restricted to its relative core size Has two states: on or off, and can be activated by pressing E, lua, or using buttons. You can also use lua to check if the ship is anchored or not as well. when activated: If the construct the anchor unit is attached to under 5 km/h, not controlled by a control unit, and has no engines that are active, the ship freezes after 5 seconds. Otherwise, nothing happens until these conditions are true. Brakes and adjustors can still activate during this time. The anchor unit plays a sound indicating that it is done. If someone activates a control unit on the ship again, the anchor unit deactivates and the freeze is removed.
huschhusch Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 English (deepl used) Set space-core (XS), stand on it, exit build mode, move ship with maneuver-tool, delete space core, done. No anchor necessary. Quote German (original) Space-Core (XS) setzen, draufstellen, Build-Mode verlassen, Schiff mit Manöver-Tool bewegen, Space-Core löschen, fertig. Kein Anker notwendig. Die Waldfee
Haunty Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 They could just fix the ECU so that ship stays in place when you stop the ECU script after leaving the seat.
Taelessael Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Ya can't really fix what isn't broken. ECU was meant to be an emergency element for things like your pilot getting dc'd during a landing attempt or blown out of the seat when atmo pvp becomes a thing. If ya want to stop in space keep a spare space core (perhaps with some voxel), if ya want to stop in mid air or right over water... well NQ is debating tweaking things for that, because seeing a massive ship parked in mid air above a base is just cool.

The basic ECU element script is "entirely" broken at the moment. It triggers adjustors that won't shut off, can cause flat spins in space and loss of ships. This can be countered by a smart LUA person putting a script on the ECU, however by default its bugged and does not work correctly. If NQ fixes this default issue, then you are correct it would work as expected.
Taelessael Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I have not seen any such ECU bugs, but if they are there then it would be something to fix.
