  1. Apparently it's the digging that's doing them in... It seems they severely underestimated the scale of people's tolerance for sheer boredom and monotony. Each and every voxel of ever tunnel you've ever dug and the detail in the walls of the cavity left behind after every node you've ever mined since the Balpha started is faithfully preserved voxel by voxel on their servers, even if they will never, ever be revisited again. What would help most is if they collapsed tunnels after a defined period of inactivity and removed nodes with less than, say 500L remaining. There could be ground elements needed to preserve tunnels within a set radius and prevent them from "collapsing"
  2. Why are L combustion rockets T4 but monster XL space engines that are 1000x more fuel efilficient only T2?
  3. The fact that L rockets are second highest tier behind antigravity (they are Tier 4) says a lot about NQ’s science credentials. NQ be like: programming games is hard... it’s like rocket science.... erm... Tier 4 hard?
  4. Wow! Who covered them? That must have been seriously cringey for the devs to read. oof.
  5. Did you even read his reason for hanging up his coat?
  6. Anyone else with similar, "What the actual fruity, lemon scented fu..." DU thoughts that hit you late at night?
  7. But will any of this pentagram and sheep-blood-candle necro’d info still be relevant after the NEXT screen update? can someone burn all the spell books, please? it feels like the Hellmouth in here lately!
  8. Holy smoking necrotic corpse of a post, Batman, this thing is ripe af.... Fuck this, I'm calling Buffy.
  9. Yay another Necro. Gonna have to hire a fricking exorcist at this rate.
  10. Say what now? It will only drop onto the same tile it was built on. It would have to “fly” transversely to touch different tiles just like any craft.
  11. Damn, run out of heart reacts for today... Believe me, I am the master of minimising cross section: My daily driver is called the "SkySausage." ?
  12. Your rather odd metaphor is... odd.. but at least it wast a 1) Car metaphor 2) Baseball metaphor 3) US City metaphor.... You are clearly are an expert running a restaurant where "a thousand" of people "appreciate" your "food." so here is a food metaphor for you. DU is running a restaurant where the customers expected steak but got bacon. Now, bacon in and of itself isn't bad per se, but the problem is is that it's not steak. And if it said steak on the menu, even if the price is very reasonable for steak, then no matter how thickly they cut it, customers are going to walk out. Especially the ones who don't eat pork.
  13. I have tested this... I have things on the rear of my ship catch fire as well as the front. I've had my a rear space engine burn out on reentry but the front wings were fine....
  14. rememeber, it was NQ that released their 3 year roadmap, and 3 years later they were almost 2 and a half years behind schedule. NQ were the ones saying what they were going to achieve. not us. Then they talk about the next single patch next quarter and by the time the quarter rolls around they have removed the majority of the content from it.. that even the next patch did not introduce. These expectations of ours are coming from THEIR roadmaps and predictions... which invariably derail within weeks, if not days of being released.
  15. Hardly high profile, mate. every time I have ever uttered the phrase Dual Universe, I've been met with the question-mark-dude meme. Basically nobody knows about this game, evidenced by the number of streamer video views (in the low ks or 10s of ks) and anything other than the "release" trailer in April 2020 which admittedly did get over 1kk views after a shotgun(?) article. There was a brief period last year when it looked like the game might actually become something.
  16. As astutely mentioned in this thread, a non trivial physics engine would see to this... Nothing more annoying to me than a naïve and abitrary cap on numbers... Like the encumberance systems in many 1990s RPGs.. And ironically 2077 Cyberpunk... Completely fine until the encumberance limit is reached and then suddenly oof: Carrying 10kg? completely fine can longjump 15 feet. Carrying 50kg? still fine... can longjump 15ft... Carrying 100kg? fine, can still longjump exactly 15 feet without apparent effort... Carrying 101kg? Nope can now barely even move. Have to eat that single ration to reduce your carry back down to 100kg. stupid systems make stupid games. If DU actually implemented proper stress and strain and more involved physics we'd not only see an end to walls of engines creating impossibly high thrust by crushing everything in front of it, but also those endless needle towers stretching 4km into Alioth's stratosphere would all come crashing down.
  17. Actually, this was a post I made back in the alpha days, but due to the ponderous and persistent NDA, I am unable to link to. Ironic to think the NDA may well outlast this game.
  18. Am I the only one who want an XS Space fuel tank? I'm fed up of having to cart a massive barrel of lard around with me just to use Vertical Thrusters. Also, while you're at it, could I have some super cool XS hover pads... Maybe half the size and power of the current ones (say 2 x 2 voxels or something) so we can put one front and back or on each corner of a transport and not have it look like a meth cooking-spoon? This would be great for some truly minimal, and maybe even speedy, personal transport! XS size components — XS Size space fuel tank — XS Size hover engines — XS Brakes — XS Space Fuel Tanks — XS Rocket Boosters — XS Space Brakes — XS Control seat for motorbike like constructs M Size — full sized M wings for M construct. L size components — L Ailerons and Compact Ailerons — L Wings — L Stabilisers — Full sized wings for L construct. MOAR XL size components — XL Atmospheric Engines — XL Hover Engines — XL Vertical Boosters — XL Wings ailerons and stabilisers. etc. — XL Cores? YES PLEASE.
  19. They could just create 2L, 3L and 4L engines that are 2x, 3x and 4x longer and heavier and provide 2x, 3x or 4x boost. no need to change their profiles, just extrude the shapes out longer. I know how NQ loves minimum work required solutions. they'd just be 2x 3x and 4x expensive, heavy, etc. Or they could allow elements to be stacked inline from front to back and combine their thrusts. (note, by stacking, I don't mean glitching) i.e. lay them along the length of the vessel and add their thrust to the unit directly behind it. first one seems simple enough to me...
  20. haven&t heard of that... what makes it rare, hence valuable?
  21. @blazemonger I was thinking back to my first few days in game... when we didn't have capacity limits on our nanopacks. What have we actually got since then? A digit on our screen called quanta... Mining mining mining... slightly better looking scenery... external containers... clunky external nanocrafters. SCHEMATICS!!!! YAY!!! randomly changing glass panels that seem to change colour every patch. Clunky bot-infested markets... that can take minutes to interact with due to piled up junk from rage-quitted players. Clunky pseudo-pvp... that nobody wants to play because it's clunky, a few more Lua functions. A one-size-fits-all warp drive and beacon. shitty textures on our wooden furniture that make things look worn out. Triangle panels that are TIER 2 that take longer to make than jet engines (because triangles are so much harder to make than squares goddamnit!) Have I missed anything?
  22. I uderstand the desire for but honestly don't see the benefit of NQ wasting time on documentation that is likely to change again... Imagine if they had documented production, only to have to wipe it all in the face of 0.24. They can barely get out a patch as it is. it is obvious that they are struggling ENORMOUSLY to release anything at all, let alone on time. Now add to this, customer facing documentation and we'd be lucky to receive anything at all. With regard to your manoeuvre tool suggestion; It is clear that NQ are far more interested in wiping out edge case misuse by the 0.1% that abused them than delivering solid, useful tools to the 99.9% that actually need them. The tool was originally unlimited and you could theoretically drag your ship several km with enough patience. Apparently some ingenious folks were flying a tiny ship up into space while dragging their 100kT L container battery up with the manoeuvre tool, bypassing gravity and fuel expense.... Thus NQ created these onerous and thoughtless restrictions that made life for the other 99% worse than it had been. Same with the preventing building > 100m because some people were building spires or removing HTML and CSS from screens because some are making stupid adverts... Or curating the image library that can take over a week to get your images accepted... because someone somewhere might upload a dick pic.... when they could have just used a "report this" right click menu like the rest of the world. Then there's the weird half-assed PVP "balancing" like core / weapon restrictions because of tiny deathcubes and removing chunks of genre beating originality and power from LUA functionality, like nerfing radars.... because someone somewhere was automating things a bit too much... Then secretly turning advanced mining efficiency from +25% yield to nothing yet keeping the 2,000,000 skill points that some people had actually paid real cash subs for to earn... to help slow down mining... And suggesting the nerf of linked containers to 100m to help slow down mining... All of these things were kneejerk reactions to the 0.1% who found loopholes or outright bugs to exploit... But NQ's response was to hammer the feature into the ground at the expense of their more mainstream players, often without even thinking things through enough, first. And let's never forget their crème de la crème of an indescribable implementation of schematics to help slow down industry.... before adding a freshly squeezed turd to the punch when they allowed a bunch of insiders to purchase enormous quantities at a 99% reduction... WITH ZERO REACTION AT ALL.... There have been literally thousands of useful ideas posted here but almost zero chance of them being implemented since NQ were already nearly 18 months behind their roadmap schedule just two years after they posted their roadmap... I just don't see the point of posting suggestions or ideas or "how abouts.." anymore... pretty much everything that can be, has been said. there is nothing new to add that NQ havent had the opportunity to see before. and all you'll get is a "some good ideas in there..." from a community figure and that will be the last you'll hear of it. /rant.
  23. For a while there at the beginning of the year, it did seem that there were more patches coming through with more regularity, and even more communication and engagement from the community members at NQ. But that seems to have just been a mirage. After the 0.24 patch was castrated, we've essentially received nothing apart from a few minor emergency patch-patches. That's it. the end... Basically siince December (nearly 6 months ago) we have received: slightly altered jetpack, org wallets and a texture pack. Think about that: a jetpack change, org wallets and some purchased textures... an entire company... half a year and that is all they have produced and released.
  24. You say right now... but people are touting a minimum of 2023 and more likely 2025 before things get back to just where they were before the bitcoin craze. Basically wiping out half a decade of cost performance increases and reducing elasticity meaning that the consumer will suffer net loss. Just a few weeks ago, someone on ebay sold 72 3060Tis for 84,000 USD only 3 days after they had been released for a cool single transaction profit of $40,000! The photo showed him with at least 128 devices still wrapped on their pallet. There is no way me or you will get our hands on them at RRP for the forseeable future. Prices may never truly return now that China is getting involved in creating a nationally recognised currency that is designed to chew more and more disk space as it gets rarer. As the coin starts to become more difficult to mine, later iterations may require 100 x more storage space than currently, much like recent bitcoins require billions of times the calculation power that they did when I found some in 2005 with a Pentium C 1.8GHz. And unlike bitcoin, those disks capacity will be PERMANENTLY consumed to maintain the ledger, trading computational duress for capacity duress... As such, those disks will be filled at their transfer speed's limit until at maximum capacity and have to be kept online and idle from that point... forever. Absolute nonsense. Not only will graphics cards and hard disks become rare, but electricity, too: Nearly 15% of China's ENTIRE Electricity supply is earmarked to be consumed by Crypto mining within the next couple of years... That's completely insane. Crypto could end up far more damaging to the environment than we could possibly have imagined. China have said they are going to have to reassess their commitment to reducing energy consumption since this new demand was not recognised even a year ago.
