That's how I see it going down as well. A claimed construct, like a station, would be built around of "structure claim" unit, sorta, as the devs explaiened it. That means anything that is nailed to the construct is unchangeable and nothing can be added to it.

Still, could be hilarious to see hooligans going around, painting Lord Buttdick's emblem onto vehicles. xD

I think the devs have a good plan for how this is going to work. If we made it a matter of hours to get to any star system, then all the pve style players would jet off to some remote system nobody goes to, so they could build in piece...

I think your still missing the fact that someone could join your city, gain crafting rights for their business and then just make everything they need for assassins etc in your city.  so inspecting my inventory is not going to help you.  I do have to say though, this has been a highly entertaining topic to be in, you crack me up man.

GalloInfligo reacted to Kiklix in COPS - Coalition Of Pirates & Smugglers
Cops has been disbanded. Sorry for wasting your time. This was a lone decision by Kiklix and does not reflect the other legate lady astrum nor the members.

The following are the answers to why COPS has been disbanded.

Drama:  Certain populous organizations and their legate have been concocting rumors about COPS. Legates from other some what populous organizations have made assumptions about COPS and presented these as facts. In every case these people are wrong and only serve to create drama. There is no reason for all the hate I have received and COPS has received. I am done 'playing' with a community full of children.

EDIT: Removed this section due to clarification by Novaquark.

I would like to thank everyone who made the decision to join cops. I am sorry it could not pan out. I wish you all well, I wish Novaquark the best.

COPS - Coalition Of Pirates & Smugglers.   The arkships landed. We woke anew, scared, unsure. Groups formed, factions aligned. Power corrupted. For all the efforts to save our species, the millennia we traveled, we reverted almost instantly back to that old human nature. Not even extinction could change our habits, our instinct.   We have all been there. Watching and witnessing the mega-corporations metastasize and feed off the livelihood of the less fortunate. Class warfare, poverty, slavery...being forced to work by some clown sitting at the top of his ivory tower barking commands. I’ve had enough of it, most likely so have you. It’s time to break from those chains and live a free life. It ain’t easy, ain’t too much glory, but it’s honest (for the most part) and fair.  We are a coalition, a collaboration,  a consortium, a conspiracy, a communion,  a clan, a crew, a club, a confederation, a confederacy collecting cohorts connected, conjoined, combining efforts to be a free people, free from tyranny, terror and totalitarianism.       WHAT IT'S LIKE:   Ever want to pilot the Millenium Falcon? Ever dream to have a crew who works together like Firefly? You want to be that solo guy who searches for bounties like Boba Fett and his Slave I?   This is how we dream to play and we intend to play this way. However Dual may require efforts from a  larger group. If this is true, we just want to have a system in place so that people can come together to fullfill their visions. We want solo play, but under the safety net of a larger organization.     WHAT WE ARE NOT:   We are NOT GRIFERS. COPS are pirates, smugglers, outcasts, ninjas, mercenaries in the ROLE play sense, NOT in the griefing sense.
THE BREAKDOWN:   • Enrollment: Some will get invited, some will inquire. If you want to be part of a free alliance just ask.
    • Primary language: English and gibberish.
    • Timezone: Only mega corps keep up with time.
    • Goal:  Solo or co-op gameplay within a larger group. We all like to do our own thing, but somtimes you need to be part of something larger or you will get left behind.
COPS is an organization created and designed to bring together like minded people who prefer to play solo without constraints of typical guild requirements (be here on X day, at Y time to raid Z...ya its tiresome).  We realize people have limited time to play and that real life takes place first. That being said, Dual Universe looks like this might be a game where cooperation and collaberation are keys to success. If we find this to be true, there might be more expected collaborative gamplay required. We don’t want to force anything on anyone, but just ask people to step up if it is required to do so.  In the end it’s not about making a large guild rich, its about making sure your needs are met, our mutal needs are met. We endevor to create an enviroment where co-op game play is actually fun and rewarding.
SO WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?   • Security: Safety in numbers.
    • Community: A network of people to work together with if so desired.
    • Freedom: Free to play your way but with the undertanding that freedom requires effort and work. There will be times we need to work together, its the only way to keep an alliance strong.
    • A Trade network. Not sure how Dual is going to work with trade, but within a group there will be communication lines. We will be able to trade with each other and help keep our alliance strong.
    • Veteran ship builders: We have members who have crafted some of the finest voxel ships to ever exist.  Our fleet will impress, this I can promise.
    • Veteran home builders: We have members who have crafted some of the finest voxel sci-fi mega structures to exist. Our home world wont look like a cut rate hostel.
    • PVP: Lets face it, even if you only care for PVE, PVP might and will happen at some point. If you intend to fly in a ship, once you are out of the ark safe zone, pvp will happen. We intend to create smart ship designs that will help to ensure pvp victories, but you will need to know how to fly it.
    • PVE: We know some people have no interest in PVP. Hopefully we can get a civilization started with trade, harvesters, crafters etc. It’s good to have folks who specialize in these categories.
    • Exploring: It’s at the heart of Dual Universe, of course we will explore!
    • If i can be done in Dual, we intend on experiencing that content in one way or another.
GOVERNMENT:   Don’t really intend on having some massive over inflated group of power hungry people running the show. I have no interest in that, however there does need to be a head or some form. Castles have kings, homes have breadwinners. Even a pack of wolves looks to their Alpha. I intend on holding the main key of power or have it distributed among a very close group of friends. Those who know me know I fight tooth and nail for the little guy, for honesty and integrity. I have no intent on telling you how to play or what to do...but internal conflicts will occur and those will need to be resolved. We want everyone to be happy and to play together...its the best recipe for success.

If COPS sounds like a style of gamplay that you find appealing, speak to Kiklix or LadyAstrum.

I know I am paranoid enough to have people walk into my city with only their money and the clothes on their person. And if shit hits the fan at a velocity of said shit turning to a shitstorm, I will pull a Mad King Targaryen and yell "BURN THEM ALL" and detonate my stockpile of nukes beneath the city.

That would require a forge or something. Maybe the owner of the city doesn't allow for people to craft anything in it And judging by the Territory Devblog, it would be as such. I can totally see players creating spy networks with local assets in every major city under their payroll. Perhaps even hiring a localete to locate the City's Territory Unit, intelligence gathering in other words. Perhaps an agent won't even have to carry a gun,  acting like a "tourist" to map out the city you intend to take over. thus rendering the "Concealing" and "Insight" skills practically inert. Everyone can pretend to be a merchant or a customer, just carry X amount of money with you so when the guards check your inventory, they go like "this guy means business, he's gonna lift the market off!" and let you in pronto .

Imagine this... The rp group is spending months building their ship, we build a probe and launch it.....two months later they leave...we jump to our probe two months later and start claiming the planet to mine material and build our personal nukes etc, 7 weeks after ariving we build our stargate, a week later they arrive finally after traveling for months, and out of supplies....and . we already own most of the planet, the stargate, and have a bountiful operation going..... Now which side of that do you guys want to be on?

I mean, let's face it, "empires" will probably carve out and scrap entire cities to build such a colossal weste of reousrces. Which sounds tots normal, as humanity has done WAY WORSE than build pretty rings around planets. For more info, check the Conquistadors and how they build churches.

So no, I don't think it's implausible at the very least. I find it a Server-Wide war ready to happen. The War of the One Ringworld they will call it.

Even if I don't support circle-jerking, ring-worlds or as some great fictional general put it "God's Personal Anti Son of a Bitch weapons", would depend on how "wide" fragmented servers could be. Plus, you would need an INSANE amount of minerals to build a ringworld. There's a difference between "plausible" and "possible" gents.

Well the way I would see it done, is the nano tech attached to my arm has its own power supply, we shall call biomatter. This biomatter has enough power to break any matter down to its molecular state and store it, and reassemble it as needed. It does all the work to our energy needs through IV feeding and waste removal. It can even filter toxins put of the blood. Our bodies are filled with the nanobots that work to keep us in pristine shape.
Eating is done for a pure social or taste reasons, as there is no reason to eat anymore.
Any obaticle to this, has been overcome with 500 years of tech, energy and nano research.

Q: If everything is editable at a resolution of 1 meter. Then a 100km planet would represent roughly 100000*100000 * 4 * 3.14 =~ 100 billion square meters of surface. If you edit this on a 100meter shell then it represents 10 trilion voxels. If you can store a voxel on 100 octet (and it might be a lot more), then it represents 1000To of data. How will you handle that much?
A: The trick is we don't store each voxel on the servers. Each planet is generated procedurally in real time by an algorythm when needed (when a player is approaching or on the planet). So a planet doesn't weight anything in terms of storage. This is exactly how it works in a game like No Man's Sky, the "magic" enabling devs to generate millions of planets without storing anything. Now, as we have editable planets, we go one step further: when a player edit something, we store just the modification(s) applied on the procedurally generated planet. That way, we optimize the space to store all the modifications made by players.

Q: What is the difference between Crowd Funding and Early Access?
A: From our point of view:
    - Early Access should be equal to selling a game, not completely finished but already fun to play and fairly stable. In other words, at least a game that has reached Beta. Those who buy a game in Early Access are consumers who buy a product to play a bit in advance prior to the official release.
    - Crowdfunding is meant for people who want to help the project and support, people to have suggestions to make to improve the game, etc. They can access the game right from early stages, in order to provide feedbacks that could be taken into account into the dev roadmap. But there are here more as supporters willing to help improving the game than consumers in the first place (but they deserve, of course, the same respect as other consumers!): they understand they are going to enter a game that isn't a nearly finished product or that the fun is not completely there yet.

Q: Will this be a first person shooter or target lock style game?
A: We totally understand that First Person Shooter gameplay would be more immersive.
However, we have to take everything in account. And when we do, then we have to make some compromise.
We want combat, but combat is not the main feature of the game. Only one of the main features, equally important with building, real massively multiplayer system in a single-shard universe, exploration, trading, etc. Once this was sorted out, it was logic that we wouldn't sacrifice things like the massively multiplayer aspect just to have the best First Person Shooter possible. In that case, even if it's not the best combat mechanics (we totally agree on that), target locking combat gameplay is the answer for the best compromise. So it's not a decision led by personal taste, but really the most relevant decision on the technical aspect in our case.

Q: Are there safe zones, and are you going to force PvP on players?
A: There will be safe zones for those who don't wan't to have PvP activities. We won't force PvP on players, we want to avoid that at all costs.

Q: Will Dual Universe will have the ability to cloak. And if so, I pray they have a mechanic that will not allow a player to abuse cloaking by sitting in a system for days on end, even weeks in some cases. It is nothing short of being a griefer and ruins game play for the vast majority of players.
A: We plan stealth technology in Dual Universe (even if it's not planned soon). Afk cloaking is indeed a problem in EVE. Psychological warfare is interesting, as long as it involves activity from the player wanting to do it. From what we have analyzed, afk cloaking has been possible because of a few things:
    - the fact that all players in the solar system are displayed on the local chat. If you see someone you don't know, it migh be a spy, or someone planning an ambush.
    - the fact that a player can leave from a safe area (space stations) from a unique point (easy to ambush).
    - the fact that a player wanting to leave the solar system generally needs to use a stargate (also an easy place to ambush).
As Dual Universe won't work "solar system by solar system" and there won't be only one point of entry/exit for a safe area, this kind of abuse should have a lot less impact in Dual Universe. And if it still does... well, we keep your suggestions in our papers as possible ways to handle it

Q: I suck at building, will there be generic blueprints?
A: We are perfectly aware that not every player that will be interested in Dual Universe will be a naturally talented voxel-based spaceship designer. or even interested to be one. That's why, right from the beginning, we plan to have generic blueprints available, to avoid that - even it's a very improbable scenario - some organizations recruit all the builders to build only for them.

Q: I suck at coding, will there be Generic LUA scripts for me to use?
A: We are planning to do the exact same thing for the LUA scripts: having some decent generic ones available to all players right from the beginning, to avoid any monopolistic situation, because not every player is a natural born developer.
    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/521-programming-gameplay-and-continuity/page-2#entry3424

Q: Will there be resource respawning?
A: At the moment, it is not planned to have resource respawning. If for some reason, there are a real necessity to add some resources on a planet, meteorite rains could be an interesting alternative.
Unless we encounter some unsolvable scenario where it could stuck players, we will avoid the "artificial resource respawn" at all cost.
    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/481-resource-respawning/#entry3420

Q: Can I desigin my own personal weapons?
A: There's currently no plan to create a voxel editor to develop character weapons. At the moment, character weapons are planned to be mesh-based, and defined by developers. The Dev team has already a lot on her plate with our current goals. Maybe far in the future, but we can't promise anything for now.
    https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/473-personal-weapons/#entry3183

Q: Will DU add in a feature that would allow us to turn on various axes of symmetry while designing ships, either in virtual space or in the living game world?
A: This is something that some devs are already discussing: Having the ability to "mirror" a pattern (a saved voxel shape) is something that is definitely worth considering.

Q: When will the Crowd Funding Start?
A: Crowdfunding campaign: it will be launched before end of 2016.

    A: Alpha Launch: early 2017.

Q: Can I build a planet killing weapon?
A: The clear answer is no, there won't be weapons powerful enough to destroy planets.

I am pretty sure they said in another pist, that Arkification would only be for people, not organizations. So bases and cities wont be pve, also the ark tokens are going to be rare, so as long as they are RARE i dont see a problem with them.

Also from what i understood, but i might be remembering it wrong, in safe areas, you just get flaged and defenses then attack you. It sounded to me when i read it that you can still attack someone in the arc areas.

No I understand the complexity of it all, I am saying that with 500 more years of science, you could have different ways of dealing with that that do not involve growing food, and cooking.  the Star Trek way, of food replicators, or the Matrix way of having it all feed through IVs, since the nano tech is attached to our arm, it could feed us directly.

As far as the ISS Wandering Mountain goes, for all we know, when traveling at FTL to a destination, we will be in cryosleep again.  Think about it we were already in it for 10,000 years, to find the FIRST habitual planet. They have said it will take a lot of energy and time to get to another unexplored system, that has Cryosleep all over it.

Also you missed the point of the reference to the Lore.  He cant move yet, and could barely open his eyes, but the AI tells him. “With accelerated rehydration, you will recover your ideal weight in one week.  Does that sound like he was getting nutrients through IV or eating steaks and potatoes?  Looks more like the Matrix way of feeding to me.

I honestly think if they are going to force players to eat and drink, then they should make us deal with waste and hygiene too.  So with that I vote, eating should be an optional function in the game, with possible buffs, but not a requirement.
