I'd like to talk about how a player or group of player can share "locations" in game with other players.

I feel like a "bookmark system" is required from a player perspective in order to store and access some "Point Of Interest" that we may have saved before. Let say I find a nice place to create a house and want to come back later, "/savepos future house" could create a POI in my "datapad" that I could rename and send to another player via mail/chat or even using voice by spelling the coordinates.
Ideally, this POI could be "enabled/disabled" as a waypoint in my HUD.

Obviously, after quite some time in the game, a player can have visited a fair number of planet and location. Having a planetary map can help dealing with sorting issues, like it was the case in SWG.

In DU, such a map can be used to visualize your POIs, but also display Territorial boundaries and related informations.
Maybe this map could be obstructed by a "fog of war" like in a RTS game minimap. You could share/sell map data and waypoints with other players in order to gain time in your explorations.
As a city mayor it may become possible to "broadcast" your city position via IFF/beacon for all player able to receive the broadcast.
The POI get automatically sorted under the City folder as the IFF/beacon is setup with a variable "type=city". The same can be applied to space station and all.
Maybe we can envision a sort of element to broadcast this type specifically. This element could be obtained in the "Politician" skill tree.

User reviews could be attached to those POI for all to read and comment if their experience there, or the services rendered are good or a scam.

I think it is important for the player to feel the vastness of the planet, and to be able to navigate efficiently trough it at some points.

That was for planets, but in space with the scale of a solar system, it may require a dedicated 3D map.

From what I understand, all laws, and enforcement will be player driven, I don't see a way to do a jail system, and would not support one if there was.  The way I would see this being done is, through the tag system.  Player X breaks a minor law or rule, you add a additional % tax to player X.  He breaks a Major one, you either raise the tax rate, or ban him from using any of your organizations constructs.  That would include any start gates, or space stations.  That IMHO is a pretty severe punishment, depending on how big your Org is, and all the things you will be denying player x. IMHO a small Organization has no business making laws or trying to enforce them.

On your other point, Respect is earned.  if your admiral loses his fleet in your example, it is probably because he was a schmuck and didn't command respect.  I great leader doesn't need more than what I provided above.  So my advice to any large Organization would be pick your leaders carefully, and avoid the power hungry type A personalities.

GalloInfligo reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Short development update (15/04/2016)
Our Art team has grown significantly since the beginning of the year, both in seniority and by the number of dedicated artists. This has impacted the development on two aspects:

    1) Harmonizing the Art Direction

Recent artworks and 3D models (still work in progress) published share a common style:
    - Heavy weapon turret 3D model
    - Cockpit Concept Art for solo spaceships
    - Decorative Props for city streets
    - The new reactor 3D Model displayed in Marmoset later today

You can see in these visual assets the art style (work in progress) we plan to use to represent the "United Nations" and human technology at its peak before embarking in the Arkships (keep in mind  it might evolve quite a bit between today and the official release or even the Alpha phase).

    2) Including their knowledge and their skills in the first screenshots

We had planned to post some screenshots sooner, but we felt it would be a missed opportunity if we didn't include some of the massive improvements, relatively quick to implement, coming from the new guys. No doubt this will have a significant impact on how the game will look & feel. These first screens won't contain the final quality of the playable Alpha, but it will give some ideas of where we are heading.  So brace yourselves for the first in-game screenshots in the second half of May!

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

$60?  thats how much a good single player game goes for, that if you halfheartedly play, will beat, and be done playing in 2 months or less.  This game is not a single player game, or one that the vast majority of the players will be done with after 2 months.  So for a one time fee idea, I would want you to pay, $540.....
Thats $15 a month for 3 years.  No i don't need to break it down as a math problem either.

I would love to know, what computer you are going to play this game on, living on a limited budget.  If you really had a limited budget, you would have spent computer money on food, and other necessities of life.  please don't portray yourself as something you are not.  This game IF $15 a month, is the same as giving up going out to eat once or twice a month, or a couple of trips to a starbucks.  Or giving up Coke, and switching to drinking water.

I for one, am glad its going to be Pay to play, and will send in that cash every month if this game is as good as it looks.  Not only that but if my kids want to play it, I will give them their own accounts as well.  AND yes I live by a very strict budget, and am willing to make a SMALL sacrifice for a great game that I love to play.  It will not hurt the company to lose people to cheap to pay, because I bet you are here on launch day like the rest of us.

GalloInfligo reacted to Kongou in Subscription model: Addressing the elephant in the room
It's all right, your concerns are valid.

The conditions of the failing rate of Subscription based games are more to do with market trends and business decisions by companies themselves.
They sink a ton of money into game development and when various behind the scenes factors are not satisfied with the performance of the product, they pull the plug and demand MORE MONEY!

Dual universe and Novaquark are specifically avoiding the back room drama, for DU at least, put on by big publishers and stocks bonds and investors, because they don't want to be pressured legally into switching the games payment method.

This way JC Baillie gets to judge whether or not Dual Universe is successful or not. He might be pleased with 50,000-100,000 active subscribers and consider the project a good long term investment, a big publisher would laugh at that and shut down the servers.

Another special factor for Dual Universe is the single shard technology, we dont have to worry about Server population collapse and mergers, which always upset a large number of people. In Dual you dont have to fear a low pop server merge and losing your character name, or guild. It lives on, forver as long as JC wills it and JC loves robotics and he loves Novaquark, he hasnt spent half a decade invested on this to turn around and say in his french accent "Yes we tried but we dont care anymore, hell with it."

Also, being a social pvp sandbox, the generation of content is different than in a regular rollercoaster theme park. In Dual you explore the world, you build your character from the many possible options. You find people interested in things that you are also interested in.
A game like wild star, you get into the cart and you ride along the tracks the developers make out for you. They tell you what factions you can be in, what weapons you use, what race you can be or cant be. Everything is a pre defined option.

This game, this game specifically, has potential to break free from the market depression games have experienced.

As far as the people that have negative experience, yes it is true, but you cannot capture every fish in the sea no matter how big a net you cast.

Speaking for myself only i have already payed for and played other games that are just too similar to Wildstar.  There is nothing new or interesting there for me to want to buy.

On the other hand Dual Universe i would like to throw money at like a high class stripper.

I think if the game works any profit model CAN work.  So assuming this game is going to work, the question is what profit model is the best for the game.

edit:  And i agree 100% with the current plan.

The reason why the text was changed was specifically because we saw how the system could be abused.
Infiltrating an organization and trying to sabotage it from the inside is one thing.
However sabotaging an organization by using a flaw of the game mechanics is another: keep in mind this is never intended by the devs.
So if some of you find some game mechanics strange that could be abused, just contact me in private and I will discuss the devs to check if this is intended or not.

Hehe, no dress code.  So far the characters /back stories we are all creating together are fairly diverse.  But I'm an old-school metal-head headbanger myself, so yes, there might, indeed, be some crazy hair and metal.   At least on me :-)

All are encouraged to apply, but we are trying to keep it fairly small so we don't loose ourselves inside some large mega group so we will probably discuss applications together and let the community decide who we accept. So, anyone interested in joining, the sooner you apply, the better,  as there will be a cap on how many members we accept in the end; probably no more than 20 or so, give or take.
