  1. Welcome to the forums @kvroux! It is great to have you! First off, I would like to give you this. It is an article that comprises of almost all of the information that you should read up on. Now then, I'll introduce myself as MasteredRed. Now then, if you are interested in exploring and mining, I'll give you some information on one of the topic. This time I'll do mining. Some of the mechanics for mining are actually quite interesting. For one case, you will be mining ores that are fairly deep. The deeper you go as well, the more rare the resource usually is. This comes with a catch however. Due to the mechanics at play, you will have to determine the ores location via a method known as scanning. By doing a couple scans, you can pinpoint the location of the ore, and mine it. Mining as well is done via players and can not be automated. This is all actually quite intricate and required some thought when you go about discussing it even. This also means that if you want to get heavily involved in mining, I would recommend an organization that knows what they are doing. This would be a great method to use! That's just one mechanic and I glossed over some of it, but I hope it helps you figure out what you would like to do in these areas Once again, welcome to Dual Universe.
  2. Well that's one heck of a post! Welcome @SerinWolf to the forums! First off, I'd like to give you this little topic here that goes over almost all things Dual Universe that you need to know. It answers common questions, points you to interviews and the sort. Now I am MasteredRed, and there are a couple things I want to say. Great idea thinking about exploration. It's going to be very hard field to do though, so starting off early such as upon release is a great thing; I recommend you do that. Among other things, I would honestly say that if you just want to enjoy the game, get paired up with a group that has your interests or at least has some goals that follow it! Community is a great thing to be apart of and if you wait until you find the right organization, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I do thank the people who made DU what it is today as well. Once again, welcome to Dual Universe!
  3. Well this is Dual Universe. I was talking to another member of the community the other day, and through both our experiences with the game and the people working on it, I said something. This has got to be a rare exception in gaming. Those weren't my exact words, but it was what I was going to try to iterate. This game, without much advertising at all(basically none by advertising standards) has managed to foster a community, generate over three quarters of a million euros(Getting close to a million in USD), and has really become something special. It isn't a miracle, but it's really a spectacle.
  4. Hello @jmsether and welcome to the forums! It is great to have you in Dual Universe. Also, nice resume you got there! I would consider hiring you if you are interested! Just if your interested though. I am MasteredRed and let me get you up to date on the stuff about Dual Universe. Here is a list with stuff you need to read. It details a bunch of Dual Universe related stuff, like interviews that have occurred in the past, things that have been discussed on the forums, and so on. It's really good to get up to date on it. Next off though, for a software engineer, you are actually of high caliber to people. Since you have a lot of useful properties, such as being an amazing person with hopefully amazing code, you aren't in low demand. I would recommend you take a look around and invest in an organization that can make great use of your skills. Once again though, welcome to Dual Universe!
  5. Welcome to the community! It's great to have you Heterozygous! First off, congrats on joining the forums after backing the kickstarter. I as well backed the kick starter once upon a time about a year ago, so it's great to have another member. Now as standard, I will psot a list of sources from DU, like interviews, Q&A, etc. Now, I'd like to thank you for being interested in exploration. However, I think there are a couple organizations that you might be interested in, but if you're an explorer, I have some different advice. Now with all the other types of interests in Dual Universe, I would normally recommend to join an organization based on so and so criteria. As an explorer though, I would actually just recommend you join an organization that looks to share your goals and ideas once your in pre-alpha. Any organization can make a promise, but during pre-alpha, it's not like you can hide your actions. Anways, once again, welcome to Dual Universe!
  6. Welcome to the community! It's great to have you dylanp1234. It'll be great to have you in pre-apha as well! I assume you know quite a lot about game since you've made a pledge, but just incase, I would like to direct you to a couple sources. First off is a list that compiles most of the Dual Universe sources, such as interviews, forum posts by NovaQuark, or any other such information. As well, you have probably already seen it since you have made a pledge, but the community portal is a great place to find organizations. I'd recommend you join the discord of any organization before you join, just to see how the group is. A lot of organizations are good, but you should really make sure that they are your type of people with similar goals. After all, you're sortof with them during pre-alpha! Finally, I didn't introduce myself. I am MasteredRed. I'd like to ask you what languages you use for web-design? As well, are you a full stack developer? I'm interested because people who have skills like this in the community are greatly appreciated, as they make DU a more developed place for the people who join the community! Once again, welcome to DU.
  7. You're quite right on most of your assumptions. However there are some other points I wont to bring up(on the physics side, not touching gameplay too much). Light does indeed correspond to a specific wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum. So when we talk about this, let's talk about other wavelengths. So you know whenever you go to get an xray, the operator at the xray asks you to put on a big bag like thing. Well we know that this "bag like thing" is of course lead that is sheaved. Since lead is so dense, it is able to block out xrays with ease. This limits the amount of ionizing radiation that we are exposed to, protecting our body. Now your chances of being harmed by xrays are actually pretty small during that period. However, after getting exposed more and more, you are at much more of a risk. So let's get back to the material. You must use light for lasers. Aka. the visible spectrum. There is no real shielding for it besides mirrors and you must try and cope as best as possible. With that said though, here are some problems with lasers as mechanics go. To fire one that is effective in space combat, you must use a lot more power for it. To damage a ship's metal which is naturally reflective, you need a powerful laser. With that said though, I'm losing mental clarity and need to take a break from discussion. You should get the idea of how lasers are really simple in the basic world. Putting them in the game is not hard but making actual points that are realistic is really hard to do.
  8. i did the same. bank account hurts. food intake insufficient
  9. @MinerMax555 You are pretty much correct on your assumptions. While Construct to construct communication has never been explicitly confirmed, it has more than been hinted at, assumed, and generally accepted. As for merging, we assume there will be ways to dock. Beyond that though, no theories have been denied or confirmed. We have just been kindof theorizing about that one. There are some more things that I can go into deep assumptions about, but there is a time and a place for that. With alpha, most of our theories or assumptions will be answered.
  10. don't worry. i cri too. i just feel it in my bank account rather than my heart ;_;
  11. Well I wouldn't worry about the grind fest as much as just simply getting enough people to really... not die? There are some problems with invalid preparation and if you are not ready to kindof find a group and get settled in well then. So in response to to the main topic, let me get onto some more pros and cons. So first off, we have a big con. It may just be that this isn't your type of game to play for some reason. I doubt this, since you are a fan of both Minecraft and EVE(Time + Grind), so you have some of the requirements for getting into this game. However the other may be that you just aren't getting anywhere quickly. By that I don't mean that you are not really doing anything with skills and such, but that you aren't getting to planets like you want or flying across the sky. This will more likely be when you are in the first stages of the game world, or during the first release. Things are expected to take a while to begin form and may or may not be what you like. It's more Minecraft during those times. Things will pick up the farther into the game the playerbase as a whole gets and it may become like EVE. So you have a good bunch of general information on the game in the above topic. Let me get into reasons why you would like the game(like ATMLVE did). The game is still being developed and your say has some word on what the developers do. It may not change core game components, but it does change some things about the game. There were players who complained about some core mechanic about the game(it was heated with two sides), however the devs did either change or show their plans for the topic, and kindof cooled down the debate. So joining the game early helps you have some influence in it. One last thing I might like to add. This community, while not the most generous, is a good one. I can't say some of these people here won't stab you in the back EvE style, but they will most certainly have the same goal of getting to pre-alpha and helping the dev team with the game(by mean of community participation!). I hope we have given you enough info! P.S. on the pledge this early. I did it when the original kickstarter was going. NovaQuark is certainly going through, as they have game demos at all of the events they go to and are actively participating in the community. There is reason to believe they follow through. So your question should more be on whether or not you think this project is worth it, rather than if they follow through.
  12. Trying to get work off! Although working this month has been a nightmare with the time I had to take off for the eclipse. I did get in Wyoming for the 2 minute and 15 second totality, so worth it! My biggest concern though is going to be if Alpha will continue to stay active through the whole phase for it to be worth it. I mean there is only so much compared to the whole game, wjo;e will be large amounts of content, but how we go about playing the game might make things seem... a little slow until we get the hang of some things.
  13. We need more people like you sir.
  14. A ton of avatars floating across your screen as you scroll. What do they all have in common? They can't wait to welcome you to the game. Hope you have a great time! Side note, while you can join an organization right away, I would advise you to wait and look for what interests you. Read up on Dual Universe first. I'm sure you have, but always ask questions. Don't hesitate as there is so much more to this game that you have no idea about! Sources here: Thank @Cybrex
  15. Oh how articles while keeping us informed love to give confusion. Thanks Nyzaltar. On a side note, I didn't worry about funding although this does clarify that finances shouldn't be a problem with you both seeking public and private investors(although this topic of private investors has come up in the past). Once again though, and this is both from me and the community in general, thanks for being transparent with how you are going about raising funds and developing the game.
  16. Well I get for practical issues an official tongue works. I assume you're talking on an organization basis and not a game basis by the way. However I mean documents that might be made public, such as treaties, trade arrangements, and so on. If there is an organization who primarly speaks a different language(say Spanish) and wants to figure out what the trade requirements are for an organization that primarily speaks English, a translation into Spanish would help out greatly. It's just that simple stuff that makes lives on both ends so much easier.
  17. Yep. Very true. As well, for the smaller organizations in the game, translators could be hired. Probably for U2. Although I hope it's U2 that they try and make instead of actual currency. That is one thing I should point out. Translators who are working in the actual game should only ask for U2, and not for actual currency. Gaining another language is a skill that is developed and can be used for profit, personal use, etc. So using it in the game to put yourself into a better position is a good idea. Using it though for profit outside of the game while providing an in-game service is just shady.
  18. Well that's why you get good translators. Although I'm not referring to a battle standpoint in this. A battle where translation is needed and such, along with battles themselves, are not in the majority of how we spend our time. The one thing that is important to remember when working with this game and its mechanics is to think of how to make something sustainable. When negotiating, writing documents, and broadcasting message, you will be able to translate them into common tongues. Covering English, Spanish, French, and a couple others will cover a majority of people. Just simply converting a legal-esk document in-game to explain why this organization isn't attacking this other organization is important. Something that a machine translator doesn't do too well on. As for the battles, which multilingual battles will not be common, there is a simple solution. If one side is perhaps gathered with another side that speaks a different language, use a simple bridge system. Leave someone to orchestrate the battle in each tongue, and create a bridge by either making the head of the battle bilingual, or make someone bridge the information. Separate the two, but make sure they have a line of communication. Also making things visually based should help.
  19. Well, I do see the point of having a google translate-ish solution in the game. I also see another possibility here. The fact is, that you can hire translators in-game to actually do the translation. It sounds like a hassle, but it makes sense. If you want a free solution, you can use google translate. If you want a good solution, you get a paid translator. Now obviously hiring one in real life doesn't take U2, but rather takes real money. During the actual game, there is a possibility for such people who understand two languages to use their skill to make U2. This is a great idea although limited in how many people usually speak two languages(less than a majority in the US; also most speak English and a common language like Spanish or French). This isn't a new idea and I'm almost certain someone has come up with a scheme to take advantage of it. This is definitely a solution that can be used by organizations who want to communicate to other groups effectively.
  20. Ah this brings back memories. I've been planning to find a nice spot for this one since the beginning of this year. It reminds me of the total Lunar Eclipse that I was privileged to see a number of years ago. Again, if you haven't yet, plan a trip. It is worth your time.
  21. Welcome! Also, sooo cute!!!! Dragon Maids is one of the more interesting moe blobs that I have seen in awhile. Glad to welcome you to the community:)
  22. Indeed. That was also back when GTX 980s in laptops were basically top end laptops. Things have improved since then, but I imagine that the laptop may have been of similar power to that of Darkarma. So I expect most people to be able to play it fairly well. Also, they probably have optimized a bit for the alpha since E3 and PAX last year. So high hopes! You should have some hope of running it when it comes out in release, or at least getting a new PC by then(It's going to be a long wait)
  23. That's good to know at least. To be honest, a better idea to spark community discussion(like has been done in the past) would be to perhaps suggest a non-obvious idea and see the reactions or to possibly just try to see what people think of a certain subject on the game. Preferably stuff that is not controversial though.
  24. This poll is fool proof! I can not wait to see how old everyone is and create applications to spy on them! I think this attempt to unite the community is probably not advised. Even if we can not see who voted what, there is still privacy issues involved here. I can not currently remember if the person who created the poll can see an individual user's vote or not. I haven't created such poll as of right now so I can't comment on it. Either way, mm, this is a bad way to try and foster community discussion. Not to mention that almost none of us trust you in the first place with our information.
