  1. Be on 24/7 or know people overseas who also can be on 24/7 (I don't trust mercs)
  2. Hoe about the TCU emitting a lot of heat so radiators need to be placed on the surface the tcu will overheat and cease to function?
  3. In real life, 1 person could theoratically control 1000s of guns at 1 time thanks to them being all hooked up to 1 i/o panel. Will it be practical? No. I think the best way to handle ship turrets is to have 1 person be able to point a set of turrets only in 1 direction, and things like heat management, power outages, etc have to be delt with. So, as the numberof guns increase, the person's job gets harder. This isnt WWII with all the bomber turrets controled by people manually. I also wanted to bring up CIWS/AGEIS weapons system for shooting down projectile fire. Obviously, the job will be simple(shoot down whatever comes close), but is easier said then done. And since weapons fire (usually) don't have armour on them, low-power lasers that cant damage hull will be used.
  4. How not to get ganked: gank? I personally define griefing as someone who harms others for fun. Anyway, the game is advertised as having "total freedom". But is it really total freedom if you are forced to join an org just to survive?

  6. Have you guys heard of 2builders2tools, alos known as 2b2t? It is the 2nd oldest running Minecraft server and is known as an anarchy server (i.e. no plugins). This means that there are no PvP or territory protection found in factions/towny plugins and basically no admin intervention so anything is allowed including hacked clients. Familar, isn't it?

  10. Using plutonium as currency is not viable as large amounts of it cannot be carried around withour it going critical, and the stuff has to be synthesized. Also, isnt inflation ok if its done to adjust for new players since inflation causes prices to decrease but new players wil increase demend therefore increasing price?
  11. Wel, when I said "hard" I meant resource-intensive. Real life space isnt accessable becausw rockets cost so much to make and are practically 1 time use items which is in turn because of the amount of energy needed to get into space. Before more efficient propulsion that allows for reuseablity gets researched , I feel like the same should apply for DU.
  12. The big problem I see in NQ's system is if a bunch of new players join and the amount of curency stays the same then the value of the currency will go up since the demend for it has gotten higher, so I think within having a common currency, the best way to inject new cash is via new players.
  13. @Oije The kart is a wrong representation of the fuel consumption, mainly due to the lack of space fiction allowing you to maintain velocity without impulse and so dont have to worry about being able tonoush itslef. Besides, they have to refill every couple laps. @zagibu while a lot of subsystems scale by surface area, fuel scales up by volume, so due to the square cubed law, fuel increase much faster then most other subsystem mass.
  14. Actualy, I should be able to build a 2km ship on my own. Well, a 2 km long stick with an engine at one end and a cockpit at the other. It seems like DU will turn out quite like Dune, mainly because of the lack of automation(computers are banned in Dune) Back to the point, how about a nanoformer mode that aligns to the holiprojections? So, If I have a hallway blueprint holoprojected, then provided I have the right materials, I can just nanoform the shape of the hallway.

Or, like I mentioned earlier, make early game surface to orbit spacecraft hard but put the arkship in orbit with a space elevator to the surface, which would be more logical anyway since it removes the whole concern of getting the arkship on the ground without rapid unplanned disassembly. So, people would go down to Alioth, get materials, go up, build spaceship and launch it.
  17. My point is that our understanding of the laws of physics expands(hopefully ) over time and things previously thought impossible become possible. On the ceramics metamaterial thing, it should be possible to have dedicated radiators that pops out when stealth is not in use but tucked away when needed. Mind you, while cold jet or ion engines/life support reaches 100s of kelvins, fission and chemical engines reach 1000s of K and fusion/antimatter reaches millions. Have you seen the huge radiators on thise designs? Nevertheless, it should be possible to have a limited amount of stealth.

  20. Stargates: Stargates will take lots of resources to set up so expansion will likely be slos. Big ships should br better then small ones since they can carry more fuel and therefore can accelerate for longer periods of time, allowing them to go faster.
  21. Well, when I think of solo play, I think of living/working but still using goods/services made by othets if necessary. Of course, if going into space using low level tech is as hard as modern day, the whole problem may be sidestepped by having the arkship drop a space elevator from orbit instead of landing on it. Then, people will go down to Alioth for resources extraction and parts manufacturing, then brought up to the arkship via space elevator for assembly and launch.
  22. To be fair if you told a guy in the late 1800s that times gets slower at very fast speeds and a particle could have multiple states he would look at you in a not very pleasing way. Its not about physics changing, its about discovering new elements of it. I AM tired of all those "sci fi" works that should be classified as space fantasy or people who think SF = fantasy. There should be diffrent types of stealth -Gravitic: works via gravitational lensing, allowing youself to be concealed from EM scans. However, it has a high energy draw and is very easy to detect via gravitational scand. -Metamaterials: works by using materials that have a negative refrection. It has little power draw and weight but are fragile and only covers a small wavelength range. Both would require some sort of heat containment, probably by heat sinks though more exotic methods like funneling it through a black hole (we don't know if that would break thermodynamics or not) could be possible.
  23. Wouldn't the economy function alright if the ratio of number of people in the economy to the amount of money in the economy stays equal so the only cash injection done is starting cash from new players?

  25. How hard going to space at the beginning should be with the lowest tech/skill? Should it be hard like modern-day with each launch costing a fortune? Should you be able to get into a WWII fighter and go to space?
