  1. very well put. but I would add that no expansion doesn't mean that they don't update the game as technology progresses
  2. I played WOW for a very long time. and what you say is fairly accurate to why i quit saffi. i was a very competent player, and one of the best in my class on the realm i played. however i took a break for some schooling and when i tried to come back 2 expacs had been release and while i had zero issue with the grind to get back to max level, the nerfing of the classes and the overall dumbing down of the game really put me off. I dont think there is anything wrong with WOW on a base level. the issue with WoW and alot of games that stay around to long is they attempt to be relevant by making their games more simplistic or more appealing to different groups than who were playing them, in short they got greedy. all games have a life span. WoW is past its prime pure and simple. it needs to die. it had at one point over 10million subscribers. and when they started to lose numbers they got desperate and released piss poor content and made the classes easier to play in an attempt i assume to balance the game. someone bitches about a player with skill and they nerf the class. the most important part of an mmo to me is the community, the ability for me to make new friends with people from around the world is awesome. but every game that iv quit is because while i did make friends in them, those friends all ended up quiting the game and the community of the game slowly declines and becomes a cesspool of elitist jackasses in some case. i would like to say i hope this game only charges enough to keep the servers running and for the devs to release some new content every now and then. i feel that a mmo is 1 of 2 things for a dev. either a labor of love, make the game and keep it running for the enjoyment of your players. or its a money maker to fund either more expansions on the game or to fund other projects. sometimes those 2 things can cross but i feel alot of times its one or the other. and after awhile it becomes the second thing even if it starts as the first. i truely hope what ever the end result of the pay plan is. that it doesnt include any kind of cash shop, cosmetic or otherwise.
  3. i dont see the devs being able to force someone to log off in a certain location. but you could force a waiting period where they cant be attacked or move for like 10 seconds. this stops people from logging off as they are about to be attacked. im not sure what happens to ships though. as buildings and such stay and one would assume a multi crew ship wont vanish when one person logs off. NQ doesnt call ships a ship or a building a building. they are all constructs so in that sense im assuming that if you get dc'ed in combat your ship might be gone when you get back and you log back to be spaced or at the nearest spawn point
  4. welcome to the forum. its a bit early to full answer any of your questions. however currently the plan is a p2p model with a flex plan. no word on life time subscription and all that. for your second point atm it sounds like there will be only 1 arkship where all players spawn from. however this could change if it becomes to many people in one area. far as your last 3 questions....no idea, atm we are all speculating in different threads on the forums. i suggest reading the devblogs to get an idea of where the developers are head and just browse the different threads already started and if you have questions still and no answers then feel free to ask
  5. welcome to the forums. i hope you find a new game to call your online home
  6. lol the fact i read this an envisioned a geometrical graph makes this wonderful lol. anyways i completely agree. i would think its possible to control the firing arc of the turrets once you put it on the ship or building
  7. honestly id just paint my ship the same as the sky box for space flight and hope for the best lol
  8. its possible that the ark field that we as players (maybe) able to create that use a special item will be found at the crash sites of other ark ships
  9. true. but in the entire life time of the engine we have gone from a few miles an hour to 30,000 in a relatively quick time in our history. im giving our future selves in the game the benefit of the doubt that if than can create a device with nanobots that shrink anything and store it in a arm band we can go a bit quicker than 150,000 miles an hour. and that the belief is in the reality of the game the universe it a bit closer together.
  10. dont feel that im ignoring at all. i suggested limitations. i also suggest a possible one time fee if there is still an issue of trolls. iv played mmos for 18 years and in truely f2p games you have scammers/trolls/and money bots. its only been established the pay model they are using. im not saying they shouldnt have a free version. most free versions iv played arent much more than a glorified trial peirod with out a time limit. but f2p mmos dont tend to last more than a few years. and this game plans to be around for a good while then it needs a steady stream of cash flow
  11. i like this idea. especially as i plan to be a merc as my main profession in the game. id like something to be implemented solely for the fact that it protects both parties involved.
  12. FTL is a thing by the time the ark ship left earth, the ark ship had to travel at sub light not because it couldnt hit FTL but the energy require would mean that the arkship would not be able to divert energy to the stasis pods to keep us alive
  13. im very excited for this game. i dont believe im over hyping myself though cause im well aware that alot of games are promised to be great but as they development team hits obstacles things get changed. how ever the great thing about mmo's is that the dev team can come back and deliver on those promises. If at release this game is half as great as i believe its going to be eventually then i found my new home for the next 10 years, or maybe more keep up the good work NQ
  14. i tend to play the roll of a rogue or stealth type player. i would like either a system cloak or a visual cloak but not both at once
  15. you are also assuming FTL is double the speed of light. much like there are different versions of supersonic speed there are different kinds of FTL. in your example to travel 1 light year at FTL might take 11 months still. we know that the ark ship was traveling at sub light so in 10k years we probably didnt get very far which is why there are more habitable planets than the one we first get too. my assumption is that its going to take considerable research, for early game, to be able to build a hyper drive to hit FTL speeds. might take a week to a month plus depending on individuals. but to travel between star systems using FTL and not using a gate that sends you into a subspace or hyperspace ,where you can do 1 light year in an hr or less, might still take you a few hours to do. if each hour of time traveled in FTL is equated to 1 month of light travel if you would make it scale then to travel 8 light months away will still take 8 hours of FTL travel.
  16. i see this being a major update after the original game release. i see alot of our suggestions being implemented in the games lifetime after release. but i would love to see some arena mech battles lol
  17. Iv played and seen games that have successfully pulled off a f2p/p2p model. with this game im not so sure how that would work. My best suggestion is this. have the game be a purchase for x dollars and have a "free" month of play. If you dont continue to pay then you lose certain benifits like the ability to use warpgates (or what ever means of travel they decide for instant travel) and lose the ability to use FTL travel. basicly locking someone into 1 system if they arent a paying subscriber one month. The reason i suggest that they game not be free to download with just a monthly sub is for the same reason NQ is against f2p. If someone has to pay for the game then they are less likely to be trolls and cause issues. however in one of the devblogs they talk about giving a trial time to new players of 2 to 4 weeks so im not sure how that factors in.
  18. im starting to think of titanfall now lol
  19. right you have to remember that a light month is the time it takes going at the speed of light to travel 1 month. if we are doing sublight speed then it would actually take years to go a few light months. the sun is 8 light mins away from earth yet it would take months to get to it (if you had such a weird desire) even currently nasa and other space agencies are trying to find out ways to get to mars and currently it would take 2 months of travel to get to mars....and mars is the closet celestial body to earth other than the moon. so we need to have FTL to travel outside of a system. if you think of the mass effect games you used sublight travel to go around in a system then to go to a different system in a local cluster/nebula you used FTL and to travel to a diffrent cluster or area of the galaxy you had to use the mass relay which warped you through hyperspace. edit: to give you an idea of sheer size even if the game isnt to scale. 8 light mins is 1 au which is roughly 150 million km or 93 million miles
  20. i think it would more depend on if we have voxel joints in the game and how well we can control them. i wouldnt say its not a possibility but i have a feeling that while we the players could possibly build them i dont think it will be possible at first launch. might be a future upgrade type thing
  21. going 100 light years away with FTL travel will still take a good amount of time. FTL would be the base mode of transportation between solar systems while sub light speeds would be for inside a system
  22. i think this is either semi confirmed or atleast discussed alot already. but as we have alot of threads i dont blame you if you didnt find right away lol. i think the 2 forms of travel is going to be FTL and "stargates". the FTL drives are for "slower" travel while stargates are for almost instant travel. think some of us have discussed having to set up our own stargate systems either actual stargates or some of us have discussed cowboy bebop style warp gates. also being talk about jump drives on larger ships
  23. i think of the stealth system of the mass effect system on the normandy. it had perfect sensor stealth....but look out your window and you see it
