  1. I believe the only way around a total VoIP integration for a game of this size is either groups using their own Teamspeak servers, or a local/organization/fleet VoIP system. While the company run teamspeak server would be nice to just go on and chat about the game, I believe that it's just simpler if things are left to the accord of the groups running things. Whether it be Discord, Vent, Mumble or Teamspeak, that is up to the groups. Or, I guess they can just run the in-game VoIP that has been mentioned.
  2. Ah, the good ol' POS bubbles. Hated that. I do like some of the points made though. Essentially you'd like to see the shield have specific requirements for fuel with a damage overload point if there are no players to keep feeding it fuel and keep it running, that way you avoid the hour long grind. Which makes the game less padded and allows players to go do other things if they have limited play time, etc. The reinforcement idea is a nice sentiment, but EvE sure does have the whole multiple time zone system down quite pat. That's something that will have to be looked at quite closely for something like this. Fair enough if they make it whenever, but giving the defenders a chance to setup a time when they know they'll for sure be on is always nice. I don't know if you've seen the recent Citadel timers, but it allows you to pick 'x amount' of hours per week that you can choose to spread over any day, say the timer has to be 10 hours total, you can have an hour vulnerability each day during the week with 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday or 5 on two days of the week. As for weapon systems, I presume there will be quite a hefty toll on larger and larger systems already with varying arrays of ammunition types (I hope), so we'll see where that goes. Definitely some interesting food for thought, thanks for the input.

  7. Pretty much what ARK is doing! I also assumed as much would have to happen with a full separate client, etc. but I was unsure.
  8. So say, you and a group become large enough to colonize a planet. You're also going to be big enough to notice, especially if your planet or territory falls strategically. I would enjoy seeing the ability to construct limited range shield 'domes' on planets, that protect you from external/orbital bombardment for a limited damage or duration. These generators would be fueled by 'x item'. If they run out of fuel, they go down. This does a couple of things over all. It allows people to have a comfort blanket above them for installations on a planetary surface and forces, possible ground assaults instead of flying assaults or orbital ones. It means fights would be more centralized. Now, the downside, I guess would have to be a restriction of how many within a specific area are allowed, so you have to protect your more important areas, spaceports, mining areas, living areas, whatever you deem important. Another downside would be possibly defense systems would have to be outside of the dome, thus making them 'vulnerable'. I'm not sure how the system with organisations is going to work, but hopefully there will some form of 'standings' systems between people so you can judge who has access to the shielded areas. I'll assume bunkers will be possible with the simple installation of a building underground, as it's all voxel based. -- However, on the ticket of standings, etc, seeing shield doors for docking bays on stations and capital ships that allow only selected people in and stop projectiles from straight penetrating into a docking bay would be a lovely addition. -- As for anti-orbit weapons, I would like to see various systems that can be used to track hostiles in orbit or that you are allowed to possibly control, but that are quite large and require defense on the planet surface. -- On the line of defensive weaponry, how possible would point defense/anti-missile systems be? i.e, a system that tracks and has a chance to kill incoming missiles or smaller ships? I understand there is LUA, but I guess the speculation would be that maybe missiles and other projectiles would be almost impossible to kill on the fly. However, we are yet to see weapons, etc. -- Keep in mind, this is all speculative, as there isn't much about the way standings and relations between organisations will be dealt with, whether there will be a war system like EvE or whether it will just be groups brawling it out and letting their intentions be known via projectiles.
  9. So, I'm assuming you're talking about making a live feed camera to like, an app or an external site? Sounds possible but bandwidth heavy. Technically, I guess not to hard to implement (have minor coding experience, used to hobby game design). But I am unsure on whether having so many of them being used would be feasible, maybe a limited thing? However, I have noticed that ARK: Survival is adding a tripwire system that will alert users via email/external site when they are being raided on PvP servers, seems like an interesting concept and could possibly be used somewhere in here as home defense systems, etc. I guess, technically anything is possible with LUA in the mix.

So, I've been reading through several threads here and there and have noticed no questioning of space suits, etc. I'm not sure if I've just skimmed over the idea/dev blog (Point me towards them if there is some!), but I would like to see suits and such suiting to planetary conditions being required to explore or live there as well as the possibility of wearing standard uniforms that can be colour customized, etc, so you can run uniform crews if you really feel the need. I just feel that being able to work on a multi crewed ship but having different people in unforms or their own apparel would be handy, or at least somewhat immersive for those who wish to RP. Instead of just a stock standard suit. The environmental need for a specific suit I understand may be hard to implement if there isn't any need for this type of thing, but I was just throwing the idea out there if there was plans for acidic atmosphered planets, etc.

But yes, a large organization that prides itself on being a religious sect would be rather interesting, I would hope they had a rather defense stance and that they would not instigate combat without a reason that is against them. Being on their good side would have its ups and downs but much the same of the other side, so many possibilities! Please, someone just do this.
  14. I'm sure I saw a topic about this somewhere, but I'm unsure and am not holding onto the links like some. Anyway, the ability to custom build defensive weapons, or even offensive weapons for settlements/space stations/capital vessels would be a great thing, as it can allow for great versatility within a single weapon system. Though, the size being put into effect, maybe it starts on x 'weapon platform' then you can build to the limitations on the platform, i.e, Small, Medium, Large, Capital, etc.

  16. Understandable, just got into reading about the FTL stuff, still catching up. Of course, if it works on fuel weight and such, would it not also take into account the weight of cargo, etc? Meaning your cargo ships are surely going to have a slower take off time. And as for star gates. I would assume they'd be limited to linking two systems, though, I would hope so as you have FTL to cross the system in the first place. Space Engineers top speed is rather dismal, but then again, they are working on a small-ish scale as well. I guess if they had of planned it somewhat better and made sacrifices here and there they could probably have pushed the top speed further. Regardless, lets just hope it isn't limited too hard. I would like to be able to make an extremely speedy frigate.
  17. I like the idea, what if we iterate on that again and say, make specific containers scan proof as to try and stop piracy/avoid it being detected by station owners etc. But have a drawback, i.e, they require more power, are smaller and such?

  19. Hi there all! First and foremost, I'm quite happy to see a game like this in development that could possibly rival EvE, as I have recently burnt myself out playing that. I was surprised I nearly missed this at E3. Good to see a dedicated community already popping up and good to see dedicated devs. I am a gamer of many genres and styles, depending on the time I might be playing many survival games, many RTS games or other. But anything space related I am going to be big on. I'm just curious at the moment after reading a bunch of posts etc as to what timezones others are from, i'm from Down Under and definitely feel usually like the minority in MMOs. Anyways, I hope to stick around for the entire development and hope you are all having a fantastic day!
  20. I always liked the idea of a news system to state that x/y was happening in system/region a/b. They do it in EvE, but to a limited degree with only updates to war, Incursions and bounties. The ability to customize your own feed via a form of RSS would be ideal though to get rid of things you don't want to see or really care about. However, I would also enjoy seeing the ability to write news, possibly, so that you open up an avenue for people to report on wars, successful stories of colonisation, etc. It could make things either interesting or I could have just suggested something terrible.

I'm going to assume on a whim and a hope that acceleration will be directly affected by your weight to thrust ratio, the heavier you are the slower you are to accelerate and harder you are to stop. A cap to the speed limit would have to be quite high, if there was one at all, you are trying to traverse solar systems via conventional drives after all.

My hope being, after seeing the concepts that Ripper has just shared, is that you may have a general hold for all sorts of items and then there would be more specialized holds for certain items that cannot be carried without containment, or just specialized for needs based on the players want to transport certain goods. I.e, Massive containers that are specifically specialized in carrying ore, but in large quantities compared to say, the general containers. That way a player can specify what he or she would like to move around and have ships/vehicles specifically designed to those tasks.
