  1. Why are you writing the pledge sums like "$15 (Actually $17)"? Makes it like there was something shady with numbers. The first number isn't $/dollars, the first number is in euros because NQ is from Europe, and they are kind enough to give estimate of how much that would be in dollars, presumably because here are many people from USA.
  2. I prefer the idea that nothing mystically disappears whether it is useless stone from mining or destroyed ruins of a ship from earlier battle that can be salvaged for materials. There might be technical issues that don't allow this, but other than that, I think this would be better. However I also think that nothing should be completely useless and unable to be utilized in some form. For example, it you have to dig up a ton of rock to get metal ore. For example, the game could have cement/concrete material that could be made using that rock. This would be very cheap and reasonably but not very durable or light material. It could be used in building things, not starships necessarily, but walls for ground building or around bases, bunkers, statues, etc. With these the weight isn't so much of an issue and durability could be compensated by thickness while being more cost efficient than some advanced metal alloy. Just one example.
  3. Why would the buildings have to be hex? Just because territories are controlled in hex shaped areas (1km wide) doesn't mean you couldn't build houses just as you want. Personally I could imagine some orgs building great looking skyscrapers (especially on safe zone) as a headquarters/to show of. I would take part in that.
  4. Might have been diameter not radius.
  5. 681sq kilometers for one tile? Are you sure it isn't 0.681 sq. I remember reading that tile would be hexagon with 1km radius?
  6. X/minute inside safe zone, Y fixed fee from arkship to edge of safe zone, (X+Z)/minute outside safe zone upon agreement and if you try anything funny I kill you. Payment beforehand.
  7. I call lord Vader. The ability to poison Novarkians is insignificant compared to the power of the force. Chokes you to death. Lord Vader is now king of the hill and the 501st legion kills anyone who tries to climb it. (ps. I think you quoted the wrong post Eclipse913.)
  8. There is difference between people to fool around and 10 000 people spawning on same spot/room so its hard to see where you are going or find out who you are talking to. I feel that that kind of crowd was the point Cybercrunch was making. Spreading that out a bit would seem a decent idea even if servers and player's computers could handle it. It wouldn't even have to be spread to the edges of safe zone but maybe within a kilometer radius. Having "shuttles" (just lore/visual element, nothing you can actually fly) would be decent way to fit this to lore. They would of course be inside the safe zone so you cant simply spawnkil people who come after you. Alternatively you could just have a really big Arkship with several points where people spawn. If the ship is 1 kilometer long and all exits would be on sides (because back end would be engines etc.) you could have 20 points where people spawn and these would be 100 meters away from each other. At that point you could hold quite large amount of people in small enough area to find your friends in reasonable time, without overcrowding one spot. If there are less people than expected then maybe the ship only wakes up colonists from some sections of the ship and players spawn only on those areas. Danger's suggestion is also great. I don't like the idea of queue, but if there is likely to be one anyway, it should be integrated with single player tutorial/some other content. The idea of letting people in at different times based so kickstarting or other reasons I don't like. Even though you could say that people who supported early or a lot deserve it I think it is better to give everyone as equal opportunities as possible an have every achievement in game because people played more/better for those. Supporters already get dacs, alpha, beta and other things. I will make the taxi mrJacobean. Its like early game version of my idea for stargate organisation. That would be a kind of intersystem transport org but sounds like we might have similar ideas. I have post in "how are you going to play the game" thread on my thoughts of this org if you want to compare ideas. Considering the earlier discussion/argument about server tech, those interested should probably make a separate thread to discus the matter. Large arkship with multiple exits would also make it hard for any individual or group to wall of everyone else even if there are no large no build areas.
  9. That brings out the question, how many players is DU actually expected/hoped to have is 50 000 even the right scale. Bit off topic question would be the question of how many players DU actually needs to be sustainable/profitable.
  10. Hopefully destroyed ships etc. remain as husks in space, because that could be quite nice option and possibly something that even fairly new player could do to get valuable stuff as soon as they get their first ship with some room for cargo. It would also be interesting to see if there are going to be battles or wreck fields of previous battles (since the resources from remains of fully completed ships could easily be very valuable, especially if they have elements that require rare resources/already built elements can be detached and used as such rather than just pile of minerals). Reminds me of supreme commander games where people fight each other to get mass from destroyed units/keep enemy from getting it.
  11. So I just saw video about eve online claiming that they actually employ economists to keep the ingame markets working and balanced. I don't really have experience of eve or other mmo economies , but this made me think how is DU economy going to work. I don't remember seeing too much talk on this topic at least not on the economic system in general specifically (yes that sounds strange). Sure there is discussion on parts of it from mining to organisations and the economy is supposed to emerge on its own, but how the game design affects this is something the developers should probably consider. It could be very important for the game, rise and fall of organisations, way to compete between or influence other organisations or even something that might cause war. In real world at least, hard economic times have for example caused rises of more extremist views (Europe/Germany in 20s and 30s for example). A game economy might not affect people's views as strongly but its state may affect decisions they make in game. Just something I thought might need discussion. Hopefully there are other people with more experience in MMO economies.
  12. Note to self. If you ever want to fund scifi game through crowdfunding, add reentry effects on kickstarter trailer.

    DU Memes

So is that how you will charge your laptop when you can't stop playing DU while out camping?
  14. Then again, does the claim have to be permanent? To my understanding TU or some related elements give certain degree of protection, so they could be really helpful even when you only use tile to mine. When the resource vein runs out just pick up your TU and take it somewhere else. By taking elements with you and recycling the resources, the cost of sequential claims should stay reasonable/low.
  15. I don't have much experience in single shard mmos but in real life one thing that has ended many empires is the loss of the leader. (Creeks, Mongols, Galactic empire etc.) In game this might be even more significant since some players only play casually so really hardcore focused players are even more important. Let's say one or small group of those has managed to hold the org together and make sure that casual players know what to do when they turn up. Now lets say that those core trusted leaders get bored of the game or don't have time for it anymore. Even if their successor(s) know what they are doing, some people might bail just for lack of trust. If new guys don't have same skill/control as former leader the whole thing can crash and burn pretty quickly. This doesn't even account for competition for the throne. In case you didn't figure it out yet, this is especially problem in dictatorships and companies, not so much in democratic republics. Lesson of the story, don't make organisation dependent on one or small group of people with all the power and make sure there is a process to replace the leaders, unless you want a civil war (which could be fun in game).
  16. I assume you mean controlling only stargate, true, that way I noted one would also need enough (military) power to blow up anyone who tries to get around that. That goes back to my comment long time ago in how are you going to play the game thread far far away. I want org to control a system by monopolizing its stargate and then strip-mine the place to make Executor super star destroyers. Those should also help to keep the control.
  17. Basically its biggest army diplomacy first, formal territory units second? Of course there is an alternative, at least when stargates come to the game. If you find a star system and build the only stargate that leads to that system, it doesn't really matter if you build territory units if you can control the travel through the stargate and have enough power to stop anyone coming the old fashioned way and building a second stargate.
  18. Someone asked basically the same in youtube comments. The answer from Dual Universe was "... it might ;)"
  19. New Dev-diary!? Going to DU youtube page now.
  20. And hear I though this discussion was just about whether people should be allowed to build certain shaped objects (yes) and not about someone going to do an actual genocide. I'm pretty sure that doing that is above the paygrade for everyone at NQ. If you on the other hand think that building a certain shape IN A GAME is equal to genocide I would recommend visiting a psychiatrist. Also didn't we already have a thread about censorship where people were arguing that NQ should stop or punish people if there is ever something the person finds offensive (of course everyone feels it should be based on what they find offensive because there is no objective standard for that). I hope I don't have to go an copy paste the long answer I wrote, but just to respond to those people would be sufficient reason to make that certain geometrical shape. Bit more about swatica, complains about something swastika shaped you may build in game tell them to look at it from direction where it lays on its side (not on the corner like nazi version) and state that you are building a Finnish air force base http://cdn.ksml.fi/incoming/xtaerr-5380529.jpg/ALTERNATES/FREE_1140/5380529.jpg or honoring the country's most prestigious military medal http://www.mannerheiminperinnesaatio.fi/files/62/textsize/Mannerheimristi.jpg . (just in case there are quick to judge people with no interest in research, the symbol was adopted by the air force years before certain Hitler was even active in politics) When making a moonbase you might just be fan of iron sky and should absolutely be allowed to replicate the base in the movie just like people can recreate their favorite ships from fiction. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ax9kTkyCn2A/T6rlVvkHYiI/AAAAAAAAAG8/5f9N5RjYC_g/s1600/iron-sky1.jpg Which reminds me http://www.businessinsider.com/nazi-swastika-symbol-peace-india-china-asia-hindu-hitler-tim-marshall-2017-5?r=UK&IR=T&IR=T https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz8gE92lVDY BTW United States did a bit of genocide with native Americans and has killed quite a bit of civilians in middle east more recently, should this mean that players can't make shapes that are closely related with united states or use American symbolism for their organisation. You might not feel they are offensive but you can be sure there are many in those regions that could genuinely say that. How about symbols of Russia/Soviet union or China. Stalin and Mao are pretty good competition for Hitler in genocide department. Funny how people don't talk as much about those. What if someone build something shaped like a mushroom cloud and people from Hiroshima and Nagasaki demand it removed as offensive because it reminds them of horrible things done to those cities. (well maybe that is a bit far fetched but hopefully you get the point) Just few examples why there is no objective standard for offensive and wanting something censored because you don't personally like it is either self centered, arrogant stupid or all of the previous. I believe a snowflake is modern term for such person. I would also like to repeat that making a certain geometric shape in virtual world IS NOT and actual real life genocide. And yes allowing that doesn't mean hacking should be allowed because that is possibly the stupidest argument I have seen on this forum for anything. Now look at what you made me do. I was supposed to just point out the complete idiocy of that not "censoring a symbol in game equals real life genocide" comment. If you want my support for any censorship, come back when someone is spreading private or false information of an actual person against their will or making actual threats of violence. Though at that point it is very easily a police matter anyway.
  21. It would be great if there were some kind of soundblocks and people could upload sounds they want if there wasn't a preset one. That way you could do different alarms, announcements and ambient noises, even elevator music if the game ever gets what is needed for elevator. Some easy way to share those sounds between players would be good too. As for the main topic it seems so oblivious to have ships in ships that I never even considered it at something that needs to be talked about. I just hope that there are enough tools to make doors for different sized hangars, not just few options for relatively small force fields. I want a major station or ground base that can dock whole capital ships in them with some kind of door/force field that can cover the needed entrance.
  22. Yes Venators are the main warships of the republic in Star Wars the clone wars http://orig13.deviantart.net/4d8c/f/2015/082/c/4/venator_class_star_destroyer_ortho__1__new__by_unusualsuspex-d8mtake.jpg
