  1. Hi everyone, You all have access to the Pre-Alpha forum section, except for "Young Bot Zero". @Young Bot Zero in order to give you access to the Pre-Alpha forum section, you need first to refresh your backer status on the forum: Sign off and sign in again on the forum will force the update of your backer status. Once your Gold Backer status will be displayed on the forum, we will be able to give you access to the Pre-Alpha section. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  2. Hi everyone, Here is a (small) overdue update about the Lore: Lore Update (2 Oct. 2017): UMF (United Mankind Federation) becomes UEF (United Earth Federation). From a Lore point of view, the testing phases including Alpha and Beta stages are considered in the Lore as virtual simulation run by Aphelia while the Alpha Team members are asleep (note: Pre-Alpha stage is not considered as part of the Lore) The in-game money will the “Quanta” (one Quanta, several Quantas). “Novean” is the term to name a passenger of the Arkship “Novark”. P.S: regarding potential inconsistency between Nanopack rarity and the way a Player Character is resurrected, it's possible we will go with the solution "By naked, we mean, everything else than what you had before you leaving the Arkship". However, this is still in discussion. We'll keep you informed about the final decision Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  3. Thread Locked. Guys, there is Pre-Alpha forum section to post this kind of bug report / feedback. If you haven't access to this section you must contact the support in order to get access. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  4. The mail has been sent!!! Check your mailbox! Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  5. Hi everyone, The email with the link to download the client will be sent as soon as possible. We will keep you informed on this topic. We know you are all eager to test the game. We apologize for the delay. If you are worried about whether or not your account is set for the Pre-Alpha, here are the three possible situations: If your gold backer status (or above) isn't displayed on your profile page on the community portal: This means you are a Kickstarter backer and you might have forgot to fill the Kickstarter survey form or something went wrong with the information you gave in the survey. If you are in this case, please contact the support and state your email address linked to your Dual Universe account and that your backer status isn't displayed on your profile page on the Community Portal. You can join the support here: https://support.dualthegame.com/hc/en-us If your gold backer status (or above) is displayed on your profile page on the community portal, but not on the forum: Your account is already set to download the client. However, you don't have access to the Pre-Alpha forum section yet. This means you have to log at least once on the forum, or sign off / sign in again. After that, you will have to wait the next update transferring eligible accounts from the group "Member" to the group "Pre-Alpha tester". We will run several updates today to leave nobody behind, but you will probably have to wait a bit. If your gold backer status (or above) is displayed on your profile page on the community portal and on the forum: Your account is all set. You should be able to download the client, as well as having access to the Pre-Alpha forum section (if you have logged on the forum before this topic has been posted.) Reminder: this is a Pre-Alpha. See it as a preliminary test for massively multiplayer interaction (first time with potentially more than 2,500 players) and not as a representative final game experience yet. There is a high chance that no progress will be saved and Blueprint mechanics are deactivated for the time being as they are being reworked. Thank you for your understanding. Best Regards, The Novaquark team.
  6. The client is more or less 2 Go (Gigaoctets) = 2 GB (Gigabytes) = 16 Gb (Gigabits). P.S: Go/GB has been fixed in my previous message. Thanks for reporting the typo Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  7. @Ishamael: The client is downloaded in a compressed format by the installer. The file size should be around 2 GB. Then the installer will decompress the game in the specified game folder and the client, once fully installed, should be under 8 GB. The required 40 GB is a - comfortable - margin for the game cache and also crashdumps for bug reports. Edit: "Go" replaced by "GB" Best Regards, Nyzaltar
  8. Hi Ljoseph54. No worries, the mail will be sent today Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  9. Hi everyone, Please keep in mind a few things when it come to expectations for the game access at the end of September: - you are not going to have a full game from day 1. This will be a version "work in progress" and very far from being feature complete. - Everything mentioned in the Lore may not be represented in the game as a game feature. It's the case for any game. Dual Universe is no exception. Now regarding Tree Harvesting: - The crafting system isn't complete yet and trees won't be harvestable in the game version you will get at the end of September. - Trees are not made of voxels. They are 3D meshes. - Currently, for practical purpose: when all voxels connected to a tree are removed, the tree disappear. - Trees should be harvestable once the crafting system will be complete. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  10. Official statement above updated. The confusion should be cleared up soon Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  11. Hi there, For the time being, the only rotation angle available for Voxel Elements will be 90 degrees. The development team might allow customizable angles later, but if it happens, it will be most probably after the Official Release. Despite the look of it, it would need a significant development time to be done properly: it's much more complex to anticipate how voxels would behave with anything else than a 90 degree angle, and so far the preliminary tests conducted in this direction haven't been satisfying. It's not impossible but it's a long road to get good results on this topic. So it has been decided to work on this kind of feature only when we will have enough time to allocate to make it properly (as you can imagine, the team has already a lot on the plate until end of 2018 before going for such feature). Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  12. Hi everyone, On one hand, it's true that some words may have been indeed confusing in the press release from last week. On the other hand, seeing some community/press websites not just stating the facts but starting to make assumptions without attempting to contact the studio (to check or ask for clarification) causes unnecessary troubles. It doesn't seem to be of any concern for the said websites but this is how the world works nowadays and we have to deal with it. Update 14/08/2017 6.30 pm (Paris hour): A JeuxOnline representative just contacted us to have some clarification about the unclear statement in the Press Release so the confusion should be cleared up soon. So to be clear: We still plan to give to Gold Founder backers (and above) and the ATV group access to our most recent stable version of the game (which will be - of course - still work in progress and far from being feature complete) at the end of September 2017. We apologize for the confusion that this Press Release may have generated among the community. P.S: the delivery date on the Kickstarter page has never changed (and can't be changed once a Kickstarter campaign is finished). December 2018 has always referred to the Official Release and the physical reward delivery. It has never referred to the Alpha release. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  13. Hi Wariscoming and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum. Referring to the game "7 days to die" would be a relevant example if it was a Massively Multiplayer game, and it's not. 4 players, 8 players, or even 64 players on the same server isn't what we call a Massively Multiplayer game. As we already said in another topic, we have to make tough choices, as simulating water physics, physics applied on voxels, and other similar mechanics are extremely heavy in terms of calculation and is not currently compatible with a large scale multiplayer environment. What can be done with a few players can become a problem in a situation where thousands of players may gather in a specific area. It's the same problematic with games like Space Engineers or Empyrion. We have chosen to prioritize the massively multiplayer interaction instead of some aspects of physics simulation. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  14. Hi everyone, Nowhere we have clearly confirmed there will be "no teleporter". Please to do not post "NQ said so" when there is no clear official statement. There might be individual teleporters in Dual Universe, but if it happens, it should be very limited: No asset/gear/resources would be instantly transferred from one point to another, only the character "naked" will be teleported, and the number of teleportations during a given time would be heavily limited as well, to keep some game balance. Why such teleportation feature might appear? To tackle the issue that, at some point, a new player entering the game and wanting to join his friends that have settled their base in a solar system far from the starting point (area around the Arkship) would need to have a way to meet them right from the start without any problem or difficulty. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  15. Hi Harbonah and welcome on the official Dual Universe forum: 1. Yes, if you purchase a gold supporter pack before 7th of September 2017, you will get access to the game later in September. 2. End of September Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  16. Hi huschhusch, This topic is a non-issue: - Satire is allowed as long as it refers to fictive people, fictive political movements or fictive religions. - Satire isn't allowed when it refers to real life people, real life political movements or real life religions (and this is not negotiable as it can involve real life laws in some cases). Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  17. Hi Le_Sir and welcome to the official Dual Universe forum! It has been said a few months ago on the Kickstarter page (and also mentioned in e-mail sent to the backers) that for any further request, you have to contact our support team at support@novaquark.com Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  18. Alright, To avoid the topic to go any further down the road, it's going to be locked. @Raptor Jesus: Thank you for having already changed the content on your Organization. The modifications are nearly ok (if you remove the sentence "Every follower is welcome to communion, to eat of the body of The Creator (pizza) and to drink of the blood of The Creator (milk)", that is clearly referring to a christian rite, there won't be any more reason to delete the Organization). Please send me by private message the new display name you want to have. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  19. Again, satire is perfectly fine, as long as you don't bring something controversial from real life in it. The moment you bring something controversial from real life into the game, you can expect problems from the real life pointing their nose sooner or later. The reasonable approach in this case is "better preventing it than making control damage once it's done, especially if it was expectable". That's why it's a common rule in MMORPGs to avoid referring thematics like real life politics, real life religions, and everything tied to it. Some things aren't just forbidden on a whim. It's forbidden for solid reasons, because of issues that may have happened in the past and to prevent to see them reproduced. While we are aware that satirical content is not necessarily done with the intention to hurt people, on sensible topics, starting to allow some content would generate the question "where to draw the line?" and there is no ideal answer to that. Using "Jay Cee" instead of "JC" doesn't change anything as it's obvious to whom it was referring. As long as the intent to refer to something not allowed by the rules is clear, there is no valid excuse to not apply the rule. Changing the orthography won't be a valid excuse. Now, "Raptor Jesus" is directly linked to a parody of a real life religion (Christianism): http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Raptor_Jesus So it falls in the "content referring to real life religion" category. As CaptainTwerkMotor suggested, "Raptor Guru" could be fine, but not "Raptor Jesus". Also, it's true that we didn't allow "Pepe the Frog" avatars. Why we didn't have any concerns originally with it, as soon as it becomes a symbol associated to a political movement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepe_the_Frog), it fell in the "content referring to real life politics" category. Our decisions aren't taken on subjective criteria, but on facts. So don't take it like an unfair punishement aimed at specific members of the community. It's just how things work. Isn't the situation being a bit over dramatized here? There is plenty of other ways of showing appreciation to JC, without making a cult (even a funny one) around him. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  20. @UniversalG: You are taking the problem by the wrong side: It's not a matter of "forcing our beliefs and values" on the community. First, the rules put in place are not necessarily our beliefs and values as people. Don't forget that laws, freedom of speech and culture are something very variable from one country to another. Members of the community should keep that in mind, and not just see the situation only through a personal prism. The rules put in place are here to be compatible with as much countries as possible. Second, because it's not a matter of forcing anything but a matter of agreement: for access any game or service, you have to follow the rules. If you don't want to follow the rules made for the involved game or service, then you won't access to it anymore. It's the same thing everywhere, it's that simple and nobody force you to do anything that you haven't agreed to do in the first place (using a service/play a game to the condition of following the rules tied to the service or the game). Third, these are mostly common rules to most MMORPGs: - Not talking about (or referring to) real life politics - Not talking about (or referring to) real life religons @Raptor Jesus: Regarding the fact that you got the name over the year and no action has been taken, the reason is quite simple: as we said many times before, we don't want to watch closely every player in the community. We are not big brother. However, when something come to our attention that is against our rules, we have to step in (whether we like it or not). It's not forbidden for the community members to create a fictive religion in-game, so your creativity freedom remains intact. However, referring to real life things can cause trouble, even a lot of trouble in some countries on legal plan. Among those things, creating a religion around a real life person is a very unhealthy thing that isn't allowed. We don't want to bring any real life problems into the game. Period. We hope you were still joking with the following sentence : So far, we took the time to explain why we are doing things, as you are a new member on the forum. Please do not try to contest the rules (being a backer doesn't give extra rights on this aspect), as this will never end well. Honestly, we don't like to play the police, be it on the Community Portal or on the Forum, so the least we have to that, the better it will be. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  21. Hi Raptor Jesus and welcome to the forum. While we can understand this organization has been created with fun in mind, this organization is not legit for several reasons: - Creating an organization referring to people existing in real life (even in a funny way) is not allowed ("Jay Cee"). - Creating an organization referring to religion existing in real life (even in a funny way) is not allowed (Name "Jesus" with a clear christian connotation behind). - Moreover, making an organization to vow a cult to a living person (even in a funny way) is not allowed ("Church of Jay Cee"). We can totally understand that these rules may appear pretty harsh, too serious, but these are the rules to avoid any unecessary conflicts or controversies and they should be respected. Therefore, this organization will be deleted soon and we ask you to change your display name. To make this perfectly clear, we will update both forum rules and community portal rules soon. Thank you for your understanding. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  22. Hi everyone, Here is the official stance of Novaquark regarding the wiki made on Gamepedia. We launched the wiki on this platform with the goal in mind to let the Community fill/improve/complete it. we really thank all those who have already participated in it. However, the wiki was never meant to reference player-created content (hence organization descriptions). It's made to describe official content, game mechanics and possible emergent gameplay. Here are the reasons for our stance: 1) To keep some meaning for each website. - The wiki is there for the gameplay and the game mechanics and the official content. - The community portal is the place for all the community-created content (as it will evolve a lot with the arrival of a dedicated web developer joining the team soon). 2) If we start to include Organizations description, we will have to do it for every organization or none of them. Referencing a few organizations will raise a ton of issues while referencing will gave the wiki contributors an unreasonable amount of work. 3) To keep a certain neutrality and peace on the wiki. We aren't blind or naive. The moment some player-created content (especially organizations description or history) is included on the wiki, it will become a battlefield and we don't want that. The wiki is not made nor designed for that. Remember what happened recently on the Community Portal with a system not (yet) fully implemented to take into account attempts of sabotage. So for all these reasons, we don't want to see Organization pages appearing on the Gamepedia wiki. Other wiki mentioned in this topic are, in our opinion, not relevant examples: - World of Warcraft is a theme park MMORPG where Guilds are not in direct competition (sure, there are Battlegrounds and Arenas for PVP, but there is no reason to reduce the visibility of any guild, while there can be in sandbox MMORPGs like EVE Online or Dual Universe). - No Man’s Sky is not a MMORPG. Not even Multiplayer, so there are even less reasons for this case to go wrong. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  23. Hi everyone, As the topic about a possible Creative Mode is more an idea for the idea box, if you want to continue to discuss about it, please go to the already existing thread about it in the appropriate section here. I'm going to lock this topic to avoid two threads in parallel on the same topic. Thank you for your understanding. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  24. Hi ZipSnipe and Kirtis, welcome on the official Dual Universe forum! - It's true the introduction post was a bit brutal. It's understandable as many developers released games promised a lot and didn't met the expectations of the players, and now every game projects having any significant ambition is welcome with caution, suspicion and/or disbelief. And that's okay. We don't ask to be believed just with words. We force no one to support us before having seen the game. We understand your decision. We have no problem with that. - It's also true vylqun's answer was a bit brutal as well. It's understandable as we had many aggressive introduction in the past from people who think to know what Dual Universe is about and bash it, before even inform themselves on the game. So those who took the time to inform themselves have sometimes to a hard time to answer kindly to this kind of introduction post. - Regarding the role of the veteran community members (and especially the members of the ATV group): True, we are happy to get feedback from the active members, but we are also happy if they welcome the new members and help them to integrate the community: "welcoming new comers and reply to their questions, even obvious ones without being rude" is one of the factor on which the ATV members can be selected as mentioned there. Now to answer the main question of the topic: Games like Space Engineers or Empyrion were originally designed to be multiplayer for small groups of players, hosted on private/personal servers. Going this way has its pros and cons. Among the pros, there are some that made the popularity of these games like the physics applied to voxels where you can ram into a spaceship with another spaceship and breaking it in two parts moving independently. It's this kind of "waow" effect who made Space Engineers well known for example. The problem here is this kind of things is hardly compatible with massively multiplayer technology (if you want to avoid big lag problems), at least with the current level of technology across the world and the average internet bandwith of a player. In Dual Universe, this is the kind of topic that we decided to "sacrifice": where Space Engineers put physics applied on voxels at the top priority (and it makes sense if you aim for a multiplayer game with a few friends), we put the priority on the massively multiplayer environment, while physics come second. This is essential for a single-shard universe (where the whole community is gathered on one server cluster). If we can implement physics in some aspects without stressing too much the server where we are in a situation with hundreds or event thousands of players gathering at the same place, then we will probably implement it. However, physics applied to voxels, water physics and other type of realistic features that are "unfriendly" with massively multiplayer environment will most probably never implemented unless there is a technology breakthrough to handle that properly in a MMORPG. Large scale battles of Planetside 2 are also a great achievement, but they can't push much further as FPS real time mechanics can become a factor that limits the massively multiplayer environment. That's why we opted for a "lock and fire" mechanics in PvP combat similar to EvE Online, instead of FPS Mechanics a la Planetside 2. "lock and fire" mechanics enable us to refresh the position of players very far away less frequently without making it a gameplay issue = less data to transmit to all clients = more massively multiplayer friendly. In the nutshell: - We are favoring massively multiplayer environment (trying to avoid as much lag as possible) over physics. - We are favoring massively mutliplayer environment by chosing massively multiplayer PvP mechanics optimized for it ("Lock & Fire"). So we are not trying to make a perfect game impossible to make. We had to take tough design decisions to make the best game possible while keeping in mind the constraints to make it doable. That doesn't mean either we promise there will never be any lag: so many factors come into play that there might be situations where you will have lag, depending on your computer configuration, your internet bandwith, the ping you have, etc... But we will do our best to minimize the lag whenever it's possible. That's one of our priorities. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
  25. Hi there, It's true that: - Massive Constructs "battlestar cruiser" size or "death star" will require incredible amount of resources and may not (or hardly) be possible to build alone. - We don't plan to let players import design from 3D tools like 3DS Max, Blender or Zbrush. However: - It's also true that trial & errors will have a massive cost in resources if designing/prototyping a very large of spaceship must be done in the "real" in-game universe. - It's also true that it would force all large ship designers to get huge amount of resources just for designing, not even for building. The ideal situation would be that the designer role shouldn't be tied to gather huge amounts of resources (this should be left to the production role). In conclusion: Yes, having a creative mode inside the game, just for designing purpose (without giving any free resources in the "real" in-game universe) is something we are considering. However, this is a huge feature to develop, and while we would like to add it to the game, there is a high chance it won't be implemented before the official game release. If it's implemented at some point, it will be probably after, in an expansion. Best Regards, Nyzaltar.
