  1. How though, explain that. If you can't use it in combat, can't use it while traveling on the ground from place to place, if the only time a jetpack is used is while building something whats OP?
  2. Your logic is basically , "Well i can fly a single seat fighter jet solo so therefor i should be able to fly a B52 at full functionality solo as well too" Yes a pilot could pilot it but he wouldn't be able to run the rest of the duties of the crew with any efficiency. Also yes the memory wipe thing is exactly what happens. The skill system and lore wise the Arks AI lets us relearn things as we play.
  3. The jetpack can only be used in build mode. That may or may not change later but as of now the design is the jetpack is only enabled during build mode.
  4. Its not a shooter at all is the point was trying to me. It'll be more of a simulated shooter if that, again with tab-target, target selecting, soft target, etc with hits/misses based on stat roles not twitch skill. I'm all for improving what they have or intend to make but again must keep in mind the type of game being made ie combat isn't going to be the main focus of the game and the size/budget of the dev team.
  5. Yeah like said above the combat is not tactical shooter based so basically tab-target, stat based roles, so I think any talk of tactical shooter based stuff is a non-starter to be honest. Unless you want to donate a few million bucks and a dozen or so more devs not much is likely to change in that regard.
  6. Have to remember NQ is small team small budget. All these extra little mechanics and systems when there's already something in place cost time and money, ie things they have a limited amount of. The jetpack is fine, its simple and practical. It doesn't need any drawbacks because all its for is designing constructs. All you're doing is adding yet another resources to acquire to build stuff another grind. There will already be enough stuff we'll need to grind to do stuff in the game, no sense in adding little ticky tack stuff on top of that. Safezones, I don't agree at all that just because they exist no one will go out? Well you have to go to collect resources and there will likely be restrictions on types and size of buildings can place in the safezone, plus thats the whole point of playing these games for LOTS of player, going out claiming a chunk of territory and setting up their own villages and citys. Also you can't just play in a vacuum in these games, no matter what activity you do it'll more than likely require interaction with others players who have their own roles or venturing out to other parts of the game world. So for someone who just want to design/build ships, that's fine but he can't do it all by himself while staying in the safezone, he'll either need to be part of an org who is supplying him resource's or go out and collect them himself with or without help.
  7. One simple thing they can do is staggered starts, which also fits into lore as the Ships AI will obviously wake people up in waves and not all at once, logistics wise. So for example have backers start the game first, then a day later have post KS backers, then those that bought limited or special editions, etc. Early starts are very common in MMOs and help spread out the players in game.
  8. Yeah there def got to be a way for stuff to get removed from the world. Whether its some kind of maintenance that needs to be paid or shield bubble that's need to be reset, the world will quickly get cluttered with empty structures everywhere.
  9. So yeah you're asking how to use public channels to make your secret group.... How about just don't use public channels?
  10. No thanks. Would much rather have DUs ship and construct building then premade prefab stuff like in SC. Plus the true open world sandbox feel of DU. Don't really see the two games besides space/sci-fi having much in common.
  11. I say just skip it all together. Seems like it'll be just too much work and hassle to make it work and not be glitchy and cumbersome.
  12. Liking the ship building/editing mode so far. Question though, is there a point where a ship or construct becomes locked and not editable anymore? Reason i ask is that if there is to be a market for selling ships wouldn't that hurt players that want to sell complex and finished constructs if we can just buy it and re-make it however we want? I mean why buy a complex and likely expensive ship if you can just buy a cheap/basic one and add our own additions to it for cheaper? Though I guess thinking about it there will likely be market for both those that want to buy fully outfitted ships and basic ships depending on the player buying it.
  13. Yeah for me the red line with P2W has always been whether or not whatever is gained by paying irl cash is obtainable through normal means in game. Paying to get shortcuts or time shaved off a grind isn't P2W because you can get to the same point by just playing the game. So being able to pay for direct power advantages that you can't get any other way is what defines P2W for me.
  14. Again this is a p2p game, not f2p. That means no limited access, locked out, free mode. You d/l the game, launch it, play free for 2 weeks or how ever long it'll be and you either sub or you can't play it anymore.
  15. Not in favor of any kind of locked access or "Free" mode stuff. Pretty sure the idea from NQ was that during the free trial period a player could earn enough in game currency to buy DACs and not spend a single irl dime. Also if a players sub lapses they can't play at all, again no "free" mode, thats some f2p garbage has no place here, IMO. This is a p2p game so not sure where the idea of a free access mode came from.
  16. The game box or digital d/l of the game is free... and you'll be able to buy DACs in game with the in game currency or goods you acquire by simply playing the game. So one could realistically play the game and never pay one 1c for it. Now more likely you might have to pay with irl cash to sub if you start to play less but still its cheaper then just having to pay the Monthly sub with irl cash only. So maybe sounds like do some more research into the game and try to see the bigger picture.
  17. Not to pile on but another point if you're concerned about the cost with this game you will likely have to spend far less then you would past games with a standard sub fee and buy in. Like said the game itself is free with a short trial period. So depending how you play you might not have to spend a single $ as long as you play the game. Even for more casual leaning players its a bargain because you can buy the sub with in game money you likely can stock pile them for when you take a break or not playing as much. Bottom line in the long run it'll be a cheaper cost wise for the average player with the added benefit of the Dev being able to generate steady income.
  18. Yeah, not sure what is so hard to understand about, if you don't have enough crew either fly a big ship VERY ineffectively or fly a smaller ship. The WoW raid example is a good comparison because if not enough show up for raid can either still do the raid but it'll be harder to do or you do other content more suited to your groups size. Demanding that you should be able to play any content regardless of its requirements is pretty selfish/immature and going against the basic design of MMORPGs. Yes you need to socialize to experience the most content, if you don't want to socialize or anything that comes with it, then fine, you just won't be able to do everything in the game and will need to adjust how you play based on your own limitations/restrictions you put on yourself.
  19. A wizard did it. Seriously though like mentioned above I'm sure there will be mechanics and explanations for how things will work. Way too early at this point I think to get very worried about how its like in a Pre-Alpha build.
  20. Well that escalated quickly... FYI, joking or not its usually against forum rules to ask about personal info.
  21. lol I honestly don't care which system is used. I'm an older gamer with diminishing hand eye and increased laziness so less confusing is for the best and also did you just pick the name "Jason" at random? Thats my actual first name..creepy...
  22. Indeed. Which like I posted earlier just have one system, or perhaps just making a fictional system might be better as well, less confusion all around. Its possible they just used km as a measure as a placeholder until they get their fictional system in the game.
  23. Regardless of the system used it should just be universal throughout the whole game and only use that one system. Would be rather clunky and awkward if you have some players using one system and some players using another, just one system and that's it.
  24. Point was if NQ says x behavior is not allowed, that's its, no debate, no crusading, its not allowed. That simple. Now obviously they (NQ) shouldn't just bow and cater to every SJW that gets butthurt but there also shouldn't be no rules either. Letting players police while might sound ok on paper in practice all you'll end up with is those bad elements as the decent players will have left the game tried of dealing with it. not exactly a sound business model, IMO. So based on dev statements posted sounds like it'll be a mix of both players can and will take care of it and NQ can step in when needed. but yes there is absolutely a responsibility that goes along with free speech. If you're on an airplane and use your free speech to yell "BOMB" you'll be arrested. Yell "FIRE" in a crowded movie theater, incite violence, issue threats of murder etc, those are all things you can do with your free speech but will face consequence's for. To the point of whats considered hate speech and the like, while subjective to a point the intent is generally clear and its one of those things when you just know it when you see it. Freedom of speech isn't a get out of jail free card. Freedom of speech is simply to protect against the government coming after you for voicing your opinion, not a licenses to be a bigot, racist, homophobe. Sure one has the "right" to be one of those things but see it all works both ways, the rest of us can use our rights as well to express how that's not acceptable.
