    Some musing on stargates brings up some questions:

    Will the builder of a stargate be able to charge a toll for its use? If not, how would they amortize the cost?

    Will a stargate have a (digital) key, so only authorized users can use it? Will the owner have to have an armada patrolling to stop unauthorized use?

    If I send a probe from Earth to Mars (or other pair of planets in the same system) will I be able to build a stargate between them? This could be very profitable for fast, easy trade if a use fee can be charged. Or is there a one stargate per system limit?

    Well they could add paper to the game or something you can write on and send or pass to other players.
    The contract part could come in as an agreement between two players. But If one of the players doesn't go by the agreement then it ruins their reputation. And therefore that will stop them from breaking the contract out of the fear that no one else would hire them for a terrible reputation.

    Yea I doubt that there will be much of an issue surviving.  The purpose of the game is creation and interaction, not surviving the elements.  I wouldnt be surprised if it is added in time post-release, but I cant imagine NQ adding something like weather or astronomical anomalies (which is taxing technologically) until they have a stable core gameplay and player base.

    NovaQuark has not provided details on how sensors work.  Everything mentioned in this thread is speculative.

    Here's my IDEA, and reason for the thread.
    Allow for "sensor dimming" by adjusting input power to the sensor. This reduces the size of the "Area of Influence".

    In the previous sensors thread, I suggested the following:

    ===== Sensor Elements =====
    Sensor Elements do NOT have to be omnidirectional.  Hemispheres, cones, cubes, and beams are possible.
    Sensor Elements ARE different than Display Elements
    Sensor Elements detect all core units or avatars within a defined 3D "Area of Influence"
    Sensor Elements ONLY need to return the "ObjectID" from the core unit or the player's Avatar.

    Advanced Sensor Elements can return more information than the ObjectID, depending upon how NQ codes them.

    ===== Display Elements =====
    Display Elements (radar display) will only need to know the ObjectID
    Display Elements will be hard coded by NQ, to display the XYZ position of known ObjectIDs

    Advanced Display Elements may take additional attributes such as "Friend or Foe" designation
    Advanced Display Elements may take additional "Color" attributes
    Advanced Display Elements may have the ability to provide different icons "on screen"

    ===== The DPU =====
    The DPU can be used for filtering ObjectIDs provided by the sensor to the Display
    The DPU can be programmed by the player to filter however they like.

    ===== Flow of Data to the Display =====
    Information is passed from the Sensor --> to the DPU --> to the Display

    ===== Weapon Elements =====
    Weapon Elements have their own hard coded sensor
    Weapon Elements attack ALL ObjectIDs passed to them by a DPU

    ===== Flow of Data for Weapons =====
    Information is passed from a DPU --> to a Weapon Element
    The DPU obtains that list of ObjectIDs however the player decides, including from a sensor.

    No. The Avatar Vs Avatar ground combat is up for debate as of how it will work. It won't be a slugfest of standing still, that's for sure, but compromises must be made for a massive 10,000++ battle and the server blade not cracking in half.

    That Gif shows both that NQ has some really fast voxel wizards and that the engine can make some really cool voxel creations curvature-wise.

    Lock and fire does not necessarily mean that you cycle through nearby targets in a manner similar to tab-targeting.
    @Falstaf I'll double-check the Kickstarter vid. Thanks!

    Neosphaler reacted to RagenTerror in Game is based on monthly subs! Why?
    IMHO, EVE is dying because CCP got lazy.
    10 years is a good run for any game.  Same static nodes, time dilation etc..nothing really revolutionary in the expansions...its time it all came to an end.

    In regards to monthly subscription.....few come to mine.
    * Server costs, developer cost, continued development and expansion of game.
    * Removes many of the troll players from free games that don't care if they accounts get suspended.
    * Removes other nasty type of funding models like pay to win.
    * Allows the company to more easily plan having a better prediction of monthly income.

    it's the layman's term, not all people in the world know what the heck tab-targeting refers to

    It alludes to the 80s, back when you clicked on an enemy in a turn-based game, opened a tab and attacked them.

    While the context in which is is applied changed, the concept is stil lthe same. The game uses statistics and attributes to determine damage .

    In EVE, the attributes and skills still remain, and you click on the enemy and choose actions accordingly beyond that.

    The Devs though, seem to go for an active lock-on tab-targeting. The rules of damage still are the same, only you can control WHERE the attack will go on the enemy's body.

    A form of active lock-on tab-targeting, is Fallout's V.A.T.S. combat, where you can use stats like luck and skills and perks to determine the chance of hitting the enemy, but you can choose which part of th body you go for. Same rules apply here, using the mining / deploying mechanics of the voxel engine, weapons can lock-on where to focus fire on an enemy ship.

    Now you know why it is referred as tab-targeting

    I love this idea.
    But we need some rules to this; ofc we can't punish a players who just take inspiration, and maybe, to judge this, we can vote for players and create a court to judge these infringement.
    At least we don't need the help of the dev, it can be a player's choice. We just have to compare the blueprints
